This paper presents preliminary results of research to develop a method of analysis of chosen parameters of vessel traffic flows on a bend in a waterway. Assumptions within the model are based on the geometrical dependences and, for a significant part, on expert experience and real life manoeuvring tactics. The work is focused on the analysis of coordinates of a ship, reduced to its centre of gravity, for different input and assumed output parameters. The proposed method allows also for the analysis of other parameters that influence navigational safety such as rate of turn. The results confirm the possibility of assessment of traffic flow parameters with use of the developed method. In the next stages of the work, algorithms which are capable of accounting for human factors and external conditions can be implemented.

The aim of this paper is to identify and quantify the direct economic effects resulting from navigational restoration of the Dąbie Lake inland fairway, a part of the West Pomeranian region (PL) transport system that runs across the Dąbie Lake. This narrow and shallow inland fairway constitutes the bottleneck for inland waterway freight transport, which must therefore use the sea fairway and thereby incur extended time, increased cost, and reduced efficiency of inland waterway transport. The paper’s second section presents the transport and microeconomic effects that restoring the fairway’s navigability across Lake Dąbie would have on the inland navigation system, thereby increasing the capacity, effectiveness, and safety of inland waterways freight traffic. Restoration of the inland fairway would significantly reduce generalized and external costs of inland waterways transport.

The paper presents the method of determining ships traffic stream parameters by means of regression method. The aim of the studies was to determine the correlation between the ship's parameters and the parameters of the fairway. This publication describes the factors governing the development of containerization in Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority, together with their organizational infrastructure and economy. These factors include port access to transportation facilities, which has a major influence on economic development and strengthens the position in the Polish market. Geographic location of both the port and the status and functioning of the Szczecin-Świnoujście fairway were taken into account. The amount of container handling in the ports described in the years from 2004 to 2015 was examined. The Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority is discussed in terms of size and progress of its changes, and handling capacity compared to other marine container terminals in Poland.

Opis:
This article presents a dedicated kinematic method of determining a safe fairway bend width with a specific turn angle and arc radius as the function of ship parameters and prevailing navigational conditions on the fairway. The assumed approach takes into consideration monoeuvring and navigational components of the safe fairway bend width. The method is based on an analysis of the results of numerical tests conducted on a model representing all physically possible movements of ship's centre of gravity in the bend. The developed method was initially verified on the Ińskie bend, part of the Świnoujście-Szczecin fairway.

The article presents a model of vessel traffic at the intersection based on an idea of a ship domain at the intersection. To determine the domain of a fairway unit some kinds of errors and accuracy were used: accuracy of distance, accuracy of ship's length and error of her speed. To determine the ferry domain a deviation of the time of the ferry reaching a centre of intersection was applied. Danger zones for the ferry crossing have been determined. In area of a danger zone a collision sub-zone and a sub-zone of excessive approach have been distinguished. For description of the stream of entries of fairway units the Poisson stream with variable intensity was applied. The probability of avoiding collision during the ferries' crossing the intersection has been determined.

Opis:
The paper presents the development of a new simulation method to optimize bends in marine waterways. This method, using results of empirical research and simulation methods, would allow accurate determination of safe manoeuvring areas. The method was used at the stage of detailed design of parameters of the, which is undergoing modernization, to determine the optimum parameters of horizontal curves of the fairway. The study was conducted on the type of manoeuvring simulator called Polaris Kongsberg and attended by pilots from the Szczecin–Swinoujscie Pilot Station. Based on the studies carried out, the maximum safe ship length was determined for the redesigned waterway and the conditions for their safe operation. The maximum lengths of these ships are as follows: cruise Lc = 260 m, container Lc = 240 m and a bulk carrier Lc = 220 m.

The paper analyzes the influence of air mass movement on moving (the leeway) surface water in the Świnoujście–Szczecin fairway region on the Szczecin Lagoon. The Szczecin Lagoon includes waters of the Odra River estuary (Poland’s second largest river) and the southern Baltic Sea. To calculate the leeway parameters, a relevant surface drifter was outlined and constructed. The data on the leeway of the drifter was obtained from in-situ experiments conducted on the Szczecin Lagoon in the summer of 2018. In turn, the air mass movement data was recorded at meteorological stations in Trzebież and Świnoujście. A statistical analysis of the leeway parameters of the drifter was also presented. Distributions of the leeway and wind speeds in the Świnoujście–Szczecin fairway regions were established. Moreover, linear regressions between the leeway and wind parameters were performed by decomposing the leeway into its downwind and crosswind components for each 10-minute sample. It is worth highlighting that relationships between these components of the leeway and wind parameters were studied for weak, medium, and stronger winds. This research may be useful for increasing navigation safety in the Świnoujście–Szczecin fairway regions on the Szczecin Lagoon.

W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono metodę wyznaczania średniej gęstości okresowej strumienia statków na torze wodnym. Wyznaczono gęstość strumienia na odcinku toru wodnego Szczecin - Świnoujście, w różnych okresach roku. Wykorzystano w tym celu dane z systemu nadzoru i regulacji ruchu VTS Szczecin. Ponadto zbadano hipotezę o typie rozkładu prawdopodobieństwa, opisującego badaną gęstość strumienia ruchu statków.
In this paper a determination method of periodical vessel traffic flow density has been presented. The vessel traffic flow density, in different periods on the Szczecin - Świnoujście fairway, has been determined. To achieve this goal data from VTS Szczecin, have been used. The hypothesis about Poissonian character of periodical vessel traffic flow density has been verified.

The present article addresses the issue of crossing time on the fairway, modeling in restricted areas, where vessel traffic flow is disturbed. Data of movement time on the Świnoujście–Szczecin fairway was grouped according to ship type. The probability distributions describing the crossing time of different ship groups were analyzed. Using the Pearson chi-square goodness-of-fit and Cramer–von Mises tests it has been shown that the best distributions describing traffic time of all ship groups are the generalized extreme value distributions.

This paper presents an overview of the most important requirements and recommendations of international organizations for the area of LNG terminal under construction in Świnoujście. These recommendations should be considered when planning safe traffic and manoeuvring of ships in port approaches to the Port of Świnoujście and to the Outer Port of Świnoujście. The approach area to the new terminal is located on shallow waters. Up to the present moment the fairway, anchorages and seamarks have been used by vessels of smaller size. After the construction of the new port with an LNG terminal it will handle the greatest LNG carriers. To ensure their safe entrance to the port, the fairway should be prepared with sufficient width and depth, with navigational aids. It is also necessary to prepare appropriate emergency anchorages and places where the vessels can return in case further voyage is dangerous. Additionally LNG cargo is very dangerous, because of this there is a compulsory to introduce of the highest safety standards, both in the design of the approach area and the application procedures for ships traffic. In particular, fairways and port canals, Under Keel Allowance, air draft, turning basin, vessel traffic services (VTS), traffic separation schemes (TSS), moving safety zone, and required speed limit are presented in the paper.

Paper contain abbreviated procedure for projecting the port fairway. Basis for consideration was construction of LNG terminal and possible updating of approach channel to Outer Port in Świnoujście . In the paper introduced major factors influencing the project procedure, including the LNG ship simulation. This method allow for more reliable detailed results necessary for establishing limiting values of fairway dimension and discovering ships manoeuvring capabilities and limitations.
