Opis:
The main aim of this article was to present recently evolved methods of strengthening flexural reinforced concrete beams, as well as the concreteanchorage system bond strength problems in composites that were either surface mounted or inserted in the pre-cut grooves in the concrete cover. The focus is on the beams strengthened with the carbon FRP (CFRP - carbon fiber reinforced polymer) composites to show the basic advantages and drawbacks associated with their installation and bond performance. Domestic and foreign experiments investigating the EBR and NSMR strengthening systems were discussed to show their efficacy, common failure modes and the factors initiating the debonding process. Debonding problems and solutions to those problems were illustrated using the example of a composite material attached to the outer surface of concrete in the shear zone of reinforced concrete beams The article provides guidelines for checking the anchorage capacity for the existing longitudinal reinforcement with the simultaneous action of bending moment and shear force in the support zone of the reinforced concrete beam.

FMEAs have been prioritized using RPN; however, a new standard has introduced AP for prioritization. This study seeks to determine if the number of required improvement actions increases, decreases, or stays the same when using AP in place of RPN. Statistical software was used to simulate 10,000 combinations of severity, occurrence, and detection. Both AP and RPN were calculated for the 10,000 combinations. Statistical hypothesis testing was performed to determine if there was a difference between RPNs when sorted by AP and to determine if there was a difference in actions required using RPN or AP. There is a statistically significant difference between RPNs when sorted by high, medium, and low AP. Using an RPN threshold equal to or greater than 100 would result in no change in the number of actions required if prioritizing by high and medium, but would result in fewer actions required if only high is used.

Opis:
A hybrid procedure of Genetic Algorithms (GAs) and reliability analysis is described, discussed, and summarized. The procedure is specifically referred to as a Genetic Algorithms-aided (GAs-aided) reliability analysis. Two classes of GAs, namely simple GAs and multimodal GAs, are introduced to solve a number of important problems in reliability analysis. The problems cover the determination of Point of Maximum Likelihood in failure domain (PML), the computation of failure probability using the GAs-determined PML, and the determination of multiple design points. The MCS-based method using the GAs-determined PML is specifically implemented in the so-called an Importance Sampling around PML (ISPML). The application of GAs to each respective problem is then demonstrated via numerical examples in order to clarify the procedures. With an aid from GAs, reliability analysis is possible even if there is no information about the geometry or landscape of limit state surfaces and the total number of crucial likelihood points. In addition, GAs significantly improve the computational efficiency and realize the analysis of rare events under constrained computational resources. The implementation of GAs to reliability analysis for building up the hybrid procedure is readily because of their algorithmic simplicity.

Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) bars, as a structural reinforcement, are characterized by the number of advantages, such as: high strength-to-density ratio; absence of corrosion; resistance to the negative influence of the different aggressive mediums. Nevertheless, a wide practical application of such a bars finds an embarrassment because of the law modulus of elasticity (it varies from 30 GPa to 60 GPa), that leads to the development of the excessive crack opening as well as deflections under the loading. To enhance structural performance of the FRP reinforced concrete members, pretensioning of FRP bars can be considered as a good option. Opposite to the concrete members mechanical pretensioning, physico-chemical method of bars pretensioning based on the self-stressing concrete utilizing is considered. Influence of the controlled initial stress-strain state obtained during early age concrete expansion on the mechanical resistance of the self-stressed concrete members reinforced with both steel and FRP bars was studied.

Opis:
Among the risk assessment methods, failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) is a popular, widely used engineering technique in many areas. It can be used to identify and eliminate known or potential failure modes to enhance reliability and safety of complex systems. In practice, risk estimations encounter difficulties connected with shortage of data. In such cases, we have to rely on subjective estimations made by persons with practical knowledge in the field of interest, i.e. experts. However, in some realistic situations, the decision makers might be unable to assign the exact values to the evaluation judgments due to his/her limited knowledge. In other words, there is a certain degree of hesitancy in human cognition and his/her judgment, who may have insufficient knowledge of the problem domain or uncertainty in assigning the evaluation values to the objects considered. In order to deal with ambiguity and uncertainty in the imperfect information, there have been recently proposed many various such theories as fuzzy sets, interval-valued fuzzy sets, type-2 fuzzy sets, hesitant sets, grey sets, rough sets and intuitionistic fuzzy sets. They have drawn more and more attention of scholars and been adopted in many applications This article addresses the Atanassov’s interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets and FMEA methods in the risk estimation of the system failures based on the expert judgments.

Opis:
In practice, a truss consists of a large number of members which makes it a complex system. This leads to difficulties to estimate the system reliability due to computational costs. An adaptive method is thereby proposed to deal with this issue. It constructs a global metamodel to quickly estimate the rough reliability index of a truss. According to the estimated reliability index, the differential evolution algorithm is performed to generate more samples located in an expanded domain so that more representative failure modes can be identified. Combined with AK-SYSi, local metamodels of representative failure mods are built, and updated through active learning. When the convergence criterion is satisfied, the results of system reliability analysis can be obtained. Eventually, two examples of truss structures are studied to illustrate the superiority of the proposed method in balancing accuracy and efficiency. The results indicate that the proposed method makes a good balance between accuracy and efficiency when it is applied to analyze the system reliability of the truss.

Opis:
In order to overcome the challenge of quantifying the influence of environmental conditions and the coexistence of multiple failure modes involved in mechanism reliability modelling under different environments. In this paper, we propose a method for the analysis of mechanism reliability that takes into account the influence of environmental factors and failure modes’ correlation, quantifies the influence of environmental factors as the random distribution and degradation path of parameters, and derives the Copula description of failure mode correlation from the historical data of environmental experiments. On the basis of the discrete mechanism dynamics model, the output parameters of the characteristic points are calculated, and the failure rate of each failure mode is calculated based on the failure criterion and the performance margin theory. Additionally, the dynamic change pattern of the mechanism reliability is compared with the Kaplan-Meier estimation of the corresponding environmental test history data to assess the validity of the calculation results. The reliability modelling problem of a motion mechanism of an automatic rifle automaton in a high and low temperature environment is applied to the method, and the reliability calculation results are close to those of Kaplan-Meier estimation of the test history data, and all are within the upper and lower bounds given by the reliability boundary theory, demonstrating the method's validity.

Opis:
Metal matrix composites (MMCs) are still scarcely described due to various combinations of used materials and a wide array of technologies. Applying the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) method to describe the quality of metal composite castings may contribute to eliminating specific (characteristic only to these materials) defects. This part of the analysis determines the criticality numbers, meaning the frequency of a given failure, detectability level and significance of a given failure to the group of specific composite casting failures. It contributes to establishing the priority number (P), which is a measure used to assess risk, a notion essential in discussing quality in a composite casting.

Opis:
Reliability analysis is of great importance in engineering practices. However, reliability analysis of mechanical system under considering correlation for multiple failure modes is very difficult. Gear is the key component in many mechanical transmission systems and therefore its reliability analysis is very important. Based on the standards of strength calculation of gears and stressstrength interference theory as well as copula theory, the reliability of gear transmission with three failure modes, including gear bending fatigue, gear flank contact fatigue and flank adhesion, is analyzed. The correlation of the three failure modes is studied and reliability of their correlation is also evaluated based on the selected copula functions. The proposed method can be used to facilitate the design, manufacturing, and maintenance planning of gears.
W oparciu o normy obliczania wytrzymałości kół zębatych i teorię interferencji naprężeń i wytrzymałości, a także teorię kopuł, przeanalizowano niezawodność przekładni zębatej uwzględniając trzy przyczyny uszkodzeń: zmęczenie zginające koła zębatego, zmęczenie stykowe boku zęba i przyczepność boku.

During the last two decades, statistical methods using lower and upper probabilities have become increasingly popular. One such method is Nonparametric Predictive Inference (NPI), which makes relatively few modelling assumptions. Due to the specic nature of many reliability and risk scenarios, NPI provides attractive new solutions to many problems in these elds. This paper provides an introductory overview to this area, including examples on competing risks, system reliability and prediction of unobserved or even unknown failure modes.
