The purpose of this article is to provide-on the basis of the literature review—the current state of knowledge concerning the experimental and numerical studies of selected types of batteries. The authors focused their actions on batteries that could to be the base for an energy storage system possible to apply in hybrid shunting locomotive. Following standards, e.g. IEEE 1625, IEEE 1725, UL 1973 and UL 2271 were taken into consideration within the context of the experimental research. Numerical analysis based mostly on the original solutions proposed by research teams. In recent times, the significant growth of interest in hybrid vehicles can be observed. Therefore, appropriate design of the energy storage system for each case is necessary. Moreover, the battery working process in hybrid vehicles is very specific, hence determination of their working conditions depending on the vehicle application is required. Very often, the experimental studies related with the batteries are based on the parameters recorded during the test conducted during the regular operation of the vehicle. Furthermore, research teams also carry out numerical analysis based on e.g. the finite element method (FEM). Such analyses can be focused on the thermal analyses of single cell or cells, analyses of the electrochemical effects as well as a coupled electro-thermal analyses.

W pracy omówione zostały rezultaty eksperymentalnych badań dynamicznych spieku 90W- 7Ni-3Fe otrzymanego dwoma sposobami: w procesie konwencjonalnym i z wykorzystaniem spiekania rezystancyjnego. Przedstawiono uproszczone wykresy krzywych umocnienia poza zakresem liniowej sprężystości badanego materiału, które w wystarczającym przybliżeniu uwzględniają rzeczywiste związki naprężenie-odkształcenie w szerokim zakresie szybkości odkształcenia. Umożliwiło to uzyskanie empirycznego modelu materiału sprężysto/lepkoplastycznego ze wzmocnieniem liniowym.
The results of dynamic tests on the 90W-7Ni-3Fe sinter that was received in two different ways by a conventional process and by the use of resistance sintering are presented in the paper. There are given simplified graphs of strengthening curves beyond the range of linear deformation of tested material which provide a satisfied accuracy of realistic relations between stressing and deformation for the wide rates of deformations. This led to receiving of the experimental spring-viscous-elastic model of material with the linear strengthening.

The results of the studies of excitation and propagation of low-frequency acoustic fields in a shallow sea, which have been carried out at the IAP RAS for several years, are discussed. A novel equipment complex designed specially for these experiments and intended for the selective excitation and reception of waveguide modes is described. Examples of measurements of various characteristics of low-order mode acoustic signals are given, which demonstrate high efficiency of the applied equipment and measurement technique.

The paper discussed the modelling, examination of the dynamic properties and stability of the WW-4 launcher of unguided short-range missiles NLPR-70. Remotely controlled armament module ZSMU-70, in the presented configuration, is designed to combat ground targets in form of light armoured vehicles. The purpose of this paper is to present a physical model, a mathematical model and computer simulation of launcher motion during launching and the first phase of flight of the missile. The virtual model is formulated in the vertical plane and verified by experimental studies. The theoretical model corresponds to experimental studies conducted at the military testing ground with application of a high-speed camera.

The aim of the paper is to evaluate a method of determining true stress in the steel sample subjected to static axial tensile on a universal testing machine. The tensile specimens were made of steel ST3, which was chosen because of its relatively high plastic deformations. Strain measurement was performed using traditional extensometers and additionally a non-contact optical deformation measuring system. Material properties were obtain by the extensometer measurements. The optical equipment registered the investigated sample through the optical system composed of two cameras and calculated a three-dimensional model of the material deformation in time. Displacement fields in axial and radial directions were determined with Digital Image Correlation method (DIC). Then the logarithmic axial strain map and radius shrinkage map in the area of the neck were obtained. Characteristic dimensions of the neck: curvature and width were also measured. It allowed determination of cross-section area changes in the real time, and in the result, calculation of actual true stress in the material during failure process. In this case Bridgman's and other scientists' formulas of stress distribution in the neck were applied. A numerical model, where material properties of finite elements were described by the Johnson-Cooke material model, was developed in LS-PrePost software. The FEM model was computed in LS-DYNA solver. The output tensile curve and neck curvature radius were compared with relevant data obtained from the optical measuring system.

One of the ways to ensure a reliable operation of irrigation systems is to protect them from water hammer (hydraulic shock) damage that occurs when starting or stopping a pumping station. This can be achieved by creating conditions in which a water hammer will not occur in the pressure pipeline as a result of closing the end gate valve (EGV). The aim of the present study was to investigate processes occurring in the pipeline during a linear closure of the EGV, during a closure with one break point and during an intermittent closure, as well as to verify the effectiveness of a combined end gate valve closure of the pipeline. Based on experimental data and calculations, the article recommends a linear closure of the EGV with one break point.

This work was performed to improve the storage and transportation technology of gas hydrates in nonequilibrium conditions. At atmospheric pressure and positive ambient temperature, they gradually dissociate into gas and water. Simulation of the gas hydrate dissociation will determine optimal conditions for their transportation and storage, as well as minimize gas loss. Thermodynamic parameters of adiabatic processes of forced preservation of pre-cooled gas hydrate blocks with ice layer were determined theoretically and experimentally. Physical and mathematical models of these processes were proposed. The scientific novelty is in establishing quantitative characteristics that describe the gas hydrates thermophysical parameters thermophysical characteristics influence on the heat transfer processes intensity on the interphase surface under conditions of gas hydrates dissociation. Based on the results of experimental studies, approximation dependences for determining the temperature in the depths of a dissociating gas hydrate array have been obtained. Gas hydrates dissociation mathematical model is presented.

The article's authors analysed the most perspective and widely known methods of neutralising the acidic condensate, which is a by-product of natural gas combustion. Among them, the hydrodynamic cavitation method was the most effective. In this regard, it was proposed to improve this method by using the method of discrete-pulsed energy input, which involves neutralisation due to the degassing process. Based on the mathematical model of the bubble ensemble dynamics, a numerical simulation of the formation and growth of vapour-gas bubbles in the process of cavitation boiling of condensate was carried out. Also, an analytical study of the evolution of the vapour-gas bubble population and changes in the current vapour content of the condensate during its boiling was investigated under different values of the initial size of gas micronuclei. The results of the experimental study also confirmed the effectiveness of this method and showed that almost complete removal of carbonic acid from condensate occurs during the first two minutes of processing. That is evidenced by the increased pH values of condensate, which corresponds to the range of permissible pH values of distilled water. Therefore, the carbonic acid in the condensate is absent. Using this method will significantly reduce the environmental effect and the amount of harmful emissions.

In this work, the input-output method of dynamic parameters’ identification is experimentally tested. A method based on the transformation of a dynamic problem into a static problem by means of integration of the input and output signal was presented. The problem discussed in this article is the identification of the coefficients of stiffness matrices and eigenfrequencies of a discrete dynamic system subjected to kinematic input. The experimental analysis was carried out on a three-storey slab-and-column structure, which constitutes a physical model of a building. The vibrations of the model were excited kinematically by an earthquake simulator. The device has a computer-controlled, movable table top, which can move independently in three directions, that is, horizontally, vertically, and rotationally around the vertical axis. The aim of the experimental studies presented in this work was to determine the dynamic parameters of the model (stiffness, natural frequencies) using the input-output method in the time domain. Moreover, the results obtained with this method were compared with the results of experimental modal analysis (EMA) in order to verify their correctness. It was assumed that the movement of the base is horizontal and occurs in one direction. Two short-term, irregular kinematic excitations of the construction were considered, and the selected results and conclusions from experimental analyses were presented in this work.
