Opis:
Visualization of neural network error surfaces and learning trajectories helps to understand the influence of numerous factors on the neural learning process. This understanding can be used to improve training and design of MLP networks. The following topics are discussed using a few benchmark datasets for illustration: general error surface properties including local minima, plateaus and narrow funnels, their dependence on network structure, input data, transfer and error functions, consequences of weight initialization, and interesting directions in the weight space. The error surfaces are shown in 3-dimensional PCA-based projections. Finally a possibility of effective weight number reduction is discussed.

Opis:
As a multi-axis metal cutting operation, turn-milling has the combined characteristics of conventional turning and milling operations involving rotating workpiece and milling tool with linear feed motion in the workpiece axis direction. Although turn-milling offers many advantages in machining complex and hard-to-cut materials due to its flexible kinematics, the process presents specific challenges. The main objective of this paper is to present an overview of turn-milling operations from different perspectives. In this regard, first, the advantages of turn-milling in terms of tool life are presented. An analytical approach is given based on process kinematics to achieve better surface quality and productivity simultaneously. Additionally, the uncut chip geometry and the cutting force models are presented with experimental verification.

Opis:
In this scientific paper it is presented the statistical analysis of the experimental data obtained by the study of the influence of the cutting parameters exerted in end-milling process on the surface roughness. The surface roughness parameter is measured in the cutting feed direction and against it. The parameters of the cutting process, the number of levels and their values were established. Based on these parameters, the research was designed on a complete factorial experiment, randomized with seven blocks. The surface roughness values were measured using a roughness tester. The research method used involved the Romanovski test. The aim of this test was to identify the data affected by aberrant errors, to remove them from the samples and then to repeat the tests for the remaining data strings until all values met the conditions imposed by the test.

Opis:
Due to solar radiation exposure, air flowing inside a thermometer screen may produce a measurement error of 0.8°C or higher. To improve the air temperature observation accuracy, a temperature error correction method is proposed. The correction method is based on a computational fluid dynamics method and a genetic algorithm method. The computational fluid dynamics method is implemented to analyze and calculate the temperature errors of a screen under various environmental conditions. Then, a temperature error correction equation is obtained by fitting the computational fluid dynamics results using the genetic algorithm method. To verify the performance of the correction equation the screen and an aspirated temperature measurement platform are characterized in the same environment to conduct the intercomparison. The aspirated temperature measurement platform serves as an air temperature reference. The mean temperature error given by measurements is 0.77°C, and the mean temperature error given by correction equation is 0.79°C. This correction equation allows the temperature error to be reduced by approximately 97.5%.

Opis:
An optimization study using the design of experiment technique is described, in which the surface profile height of a freeform surface, determined in coordinate measurements, is the response variable. The control factors are coordinate sampling parameters, i.e. the sampling grid size and the measuring tip diameter. As a result of the research, an optimal combination of these parameters was found for surface mapping with acceptable measurement uncertainty. The presented study is the first stage of optimization of machining error correction for the freeform surface and was intended to take into account mechanical-geometric filtration of surface irregularities caused by these geometrical parameters. The tests were carried out on a freeform workpiece milled with specific machining parameters, Ra of the surface roughness was 1.62 μm. The search for the optimal combination of parameters was conducted using Statistica software.

Opis:
Radars and sensors are essential devices for an Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) to detect obstacles. Their precision has improved significantly in recent years with relatively accurate capability to locate obstacles. However, small detection errors in the estimation and prediction of trajectories of obstacles may cause serious problems in accuracy, thereby damaging the judgment of USV and affecting the effectiveness of collision avoidance. In this study, the effect of radar errors on the prediction accuracy of obstacle position is studied on the basis of the autoregressive prediction model. The cause of radar error is also analyzed. Subsequently, a bidirectional adaptive filtering algorithm based on polynomial fitting and particle swarm optimization is proposed to eliminate the observed errors in vertical and abscissa coordinates. Then, simulations of obstacle tracking and prediction are carried out, and the results show the validity of the algorithm. Finally, the method is used to simulate the collision avoidance of USV, and the results show the validity and reliability of the algorithm.

Opis:
A paradigm shift is presently underway in the shipping industry promising safer, greener and more efficient ship traffic. In this article, we will look at some of the accidents from conventional shipping and see if they could have been avoided with autonomous ship technology. A hypothesis of increased safety is often brought forward, and we know from various studies that the number of maritime accidents that involves what is called “human error” ranges from some 60‐90 percent. If we replace the human with automation, can we then reduce the number of accidents? On the other hand, is there a possibility for new types of accidents to appear? What about the accidents that are today averted by the crew? This paper will present a method to assess these different aspects of the risk scenarios in light of the specific capabilities and constraints of autonomous ships.

Opis:
The result of the appraisal of a market value is most often a unit value, which is finally multiplied by the surface area of a real estate. It could be estimated that average errors in parcels’ surface areas would influence the final result of land property valuation. On the basis of the data obtained from geodesic and cartographic documentation centres, complemented by generated examples of the objects fulfilling the imposed criteria of the research process, the analysis of the scale and scope of average errors of parcel’ s surface area and their influence on the final result of valuation was conducted. It was presented that, with the greater unit value of a real estate, the influence is more significant. Depending on the case in question, the researched impact may be even more important than an accurate estimation of a unit value. It means that uncritical usage of the surface areas revealed in the register of land and buildings to estimate a market value of real properties is not a good solution. Such a practise may lead to a significant reduction of accuracy and credibility of the whole valuation process. It would be a good option if the influence of average errors of parcel’s surface area on real properties’ market value was verified and considered, which would undoubtedly bring positive results.

Opis:
From ancient days to till today manufacturing industries, especially making of holes on the parts during drilling process for precision assembling of parts facing problems with burr formation. Drilling operation is one of the finishing operation in the production cycle, removing of burrs during drilling process is a time consuming and non-value added process to the manufacturing sector. So reducing the size of burrs is the main aim of the present study. In the present work, optimization of burr size is considered during drilling of aluminium 7075 alloy. In this connection, experiments are conducted based on Grey based Taguchi. From Grey relational grades of responses selected optimal combination of parameters to attain multiple performance characteristics of responses with a corresponding higher grey relational grade. For identifying the most significant input parameters that influence the output responses ANOVA is conducted. Based on interaction effect plots of data means of responses from results of ANOVA, confirmation tests are conducted by choosing most significant parameters. Finally, observations reveals that feed rate, point and clearance angles are the most influential factors on burr size and also experimental results divulge that the lower the thrust force causes to decrease the burr height. The proposed approach is helpful to the budding entrepreneurs in the related areas to select optimal combination of drilling parameters to attain multiple performance characteristics of responses especially in burr size to prevent the post finishing operations up to certain extent.
