The objective of this paper is to propose effective methods to implement sustainable development principles among young people, both in schools and universities. The authors of this article recognize the significant potential among young individuals whose actions and choices have a substantial impact on the environment. By analyzing the knowledge and behaviors of young people towards sustainable development and environmental protection, based on surveys conducted among pupils and students from the south-eastern region of Poland, this paper identifies gaps that require improvement and proposes actions aimed at raising pro-ecological awareness among the youth. The analysis revealed that only 25% of the respondents have heard about the "Agenda for Sustainable Development – 2030", 20% were familiar with the goals of sustainable development, and few have participated in initiatives for sustainable development. However, 58% of respondents claimed to engage in activities for environmental protection in their daily lives. The article also presents the degree of compliance with the assumptions of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development on both global and local scales. Furthermore, the paper analyzes two aspects of students' awareness of sustainable development: their knowledge of goals and documents, and their pro-ecological behavior in daily life. Based on the findings, this paper proposes ways to introduce sustainable development principles in selected areas of school and university functioning to enhance ecological awareness and shape pro-ecological attitudes among young people. Concrete actions to facilitate implementation are also suggested.

Niniejszy artykuł podejmuje problematykę rozwijania dziecięcej proaktywności z wykorzystaniem design thinking jako metody wpisującej się w nurt edukacji dla zrównoważonego rozwoju. W związku z postępującym kryzysem klimatycznym głównym celem przeprowadzonych badań było określenie, w jaki sposób metoda design thinking wspiera rozwój proaktywności w zakresie działań na rzecz ochrony przyrody u dzieci z klasy III szkoły podstawowej. W metodologii zastosowano badania w działaniu, które były prowadzone w paradygmacie konstruktywistycznym, interpretacyjnym. Analiza uzyskanych wyników pokazała, że w trakcie procesu design thinking, obejmującego etapy: „Poczuj”, „Projektuj”, „Działaj” i „Inspiruj”, dzieci rozwijały swoją proaktywność i podejmowanie inicjatywy m.in. poprzez obserwowania i diagnozowanie problemów otaczającej ich rzeczywistości, rozwijanie umiejętności negocjacji, podejmowania decyzji, aktywnego uczenia się, wyznaczania celów, projektowania własnego działania, poszukiwania informacji, konstruowania strategii rozwiązywania problemów, ewaluacji własnych działań czy zarządzania procesami uczenia się.
The article deals with the issue of developing children’s proactivity using design thinking as a method of education for sustainable development. In the context of the ongoing climate crisis, the main objective of the research was to determine how the design thinking method develops children's proactivity towards nature. The methodology was based on action research, which was conducted in a constructivist, interpretive paradigm. The analysis of the obtained results showed that during the design thinking process, which consisted of four stages: “Feel”, “Design”, “Act” and “Inspire”, children developed their proactivity and initiative by, among others, observing and diagnosing the problems of the surrounding reality, developing the skills of negotiation, decision making, active learning, goal setting, designing their own action, searching for information, constructing problem solving strategies, evaluating their own actions, and managing the learning process.

Autor artykułu przyjmuje założenie, że depozyt wartości duchowych jest istotną siłą sprawczą woli poznawania funkcji odpowiedzialności, szukania ex ante skutecznych środków działania dla życia w dobrostanie i równoczesnego bycia dobrym i dlatego nie może być pomijany w rozwiązywaniu zagrożeń rozwojowych człowieka, w tym również w zakresie ograniczania ryzyka ekologicznego. Z perspektywy aksjologicznej sens efektywności ekonomicznej, wzrostu aktywów biznesowych i konkurencyjności staje się oczywisty wówczas, jeśli jest umocowany w mechanizmach koordynacji, instytucjach, narzędziach regulacji i strategiach działania przynoszących pozytywne odzwierciedlenie w dobrostanie odnoszącym się do całej przestrzeni rozwoju zintegrowanego, obejmującej nie tylko sferę ekonomii, społeczną, natury, ale również duchową i biologii ludzkiej,polityczną, wiedzy, technologiczną i konsumpcji. Z tej perspektywy badawczej zaprezentowano refleksje nad etycznymi podstawami edukacji i wychowania dla poszanowania zasobów natury i rodziny. Poprzedzono je ukazaniem najważniejszych koncepcji zmniejszania ograniczeń dla rozwoju ze strony sfery natury oraz krytyki lansowanych programów ochrony jej zasobów. Z tych refleksji wywiedziono celowość uruchomienia mechanizmów oddolnego pchania innowacji i wymuszania strategii proekologicznych spójnych ze zharmonizowanym we wszystkich sferach bytu ludzkiego rozwojem. Wskazano też na potrzebę modernizacji kapitału ludzkiego opartą na uporządkowanych aksjologiczne celach z wykorzystaniem w tym celu również instytucji rodziny i religii.
The author of the article assumes that the deposit of values is an important driving force of the will to discover the function of responsibility, to search ex ante for effective means of action for life in well-being and at the same time to be ethical, and therefore it cannot be ignored in solving human development risks, including ecological risk reduction. From an axiological perspective, the sense of economic efficiency, growth of business assets and competitiveness become evident if they is anchored in the coordination mechanisms, institutions, regulatory tools and action strategies that bring positive effects in well-being relating to the entire space of integrated development, including not only the economic, social, and natural, but also spiritual and human biology, political, knowledge, technological, and consumption spheres, respecting the synergies and entropies arising from the coupling between them. From this research perspective, reflections on the ethical foundations of education and upbringing for the respect of nature and the family are presented. They are preceded by the presentation of the most important concepts of constraints on development from the sphere of nature and the criticism of the promoted programmes of nature conservation. From these reflections it was concluded that it is advisable to activate the mechanisms of bottom-up innovation pushing and enforcing pro-ecological strategies coherent with harmonised development in all spheres of human existence. It was also pointed out that there is a need to modernise human capital based on axiologically ordered goals, also using for this purpose the institutions of family and religion.

Purpose: Nowadays environmental education associated with sustainable development presents a critical social challenge. The objective of this study was to identify and assess the interest in sustainable development, along with initiatives undertaken in this respect, by the students of selected university courses. The sample consisted of the students of management, who, due to the specific character of their education, will prospectively manage organizations or become entrepreneurs, i.e. will become responsible for setting the trends for the development of organizations. Design/methodology/approach: The subject matter of the present study pertains to environment-friendly attitudes of the students of selected universities in Lublin. The study was conducted by means of a diagnostic poll which was developed on the basis of the review of literature. Findings: The analysis of the results of the study revealed that respondents’ awareness regarding the impact of individuals upon the environment is strong. However, certain shortages were observed with regard to the impact of enterprises upon the natural environment. Research limitations/implications: It seems advisable to conduct this research also with students from other faculties. Practical implications: It seems advisable to commence environmental education during undergraduate studies so that students recognize the impact of enterprises upon the natural environment as early as possible. Originality/value: The article contains new research results about environmental education associated with sustainable development, which were conducted based on the self-developed questionnaire.

Idea zrównoważonego rozwoju przedstawiona w artykule wpisuje się w działania podejmowane przez International Federation for Home Economics. Jest to jedna z głównych organizacji o charakterze globalnym działająca na polu domowej ekonomii. Stałym priorytetem w jej działalności w zakresie edukacji ekologicznej charakteryzującej się dbałością o jakość życia, jest bycie katalizatorem postępu w obecnych czasach, aktualizując swoje cele w krajach, z których wywodzą się jej członkinie i członkowie. W ostatnim okresie priorytetem tym stał się zrównoważony rozwój.
The themes of responsibility and care for the environment in the local dimension and in everyday life are present in the literature and indicate that the slogan of sustainable development is very much up-to-date. The importance of local communities in this area of activity is growing. They are characterised by a genuine concern for the environment, unlike the one centrally controlled by the state. The idea of sustainable development presented in the article is part of the activities undertaken by the International Federation for Home Economics. It is one of the leading global organisations operating in the field of home economics. Being a catalyst for progress in line with the times when it is updating its objectives in the countries of its members is a constant priority in its environmental education activities, which are concerned with quality of life. Recently, sustainable development has become such a priority.

Sustainable development is a challenge worldwide. The nine states located in the Baltic Sea Region, with different political systems, have developed different ways of coping with environmental issues and incorporating them in the national education systems. Early joint efforts to minimize these differences undertaken by the Helsinki Commission (HELCOM) and the Baltic University Programme (BUP) to bridge these differences are impressive. Still, we need to continue learning about environmental history, policy formulation and current state of affairs in order to get ready for future challenges. With respect to contemporary discussions on improving educational processes, the aim of this paper is to present a good practice example of teaching at a BUP member university, in the light of ESD principles. A specific course, Environmental Politics, focusing on capacity-building for national environmental policies, is scrutinized in order to find out how to engage students on this topic. The findings suggest that structured discussions of environmental cases in small seminar groups are conducive to teaching ESD at a BUP member university.

Opis:
Human ecology is a science of mutual relations between human population and natural habitat. It uses complex approach to research many aspects of human life, especially human dynamic relations with the closest environment: family, home, nature and local community, and creating healthy environment for everyday life. There is a new challenge for pedagogy, i.e. forming human ecological awareness defined as knowledge of environment. There is also an issue of competencies and active practices for environmental protection. Ecological pedagogy, in its assumptions, does not support the idea of anthropocentrism conceived as human being’s dominance over nature; its idea is education for coexistence and human protection of nature in order to maintain it for next generations and achieve sustainable development. The aim of this article is to draw attention to the level of ecological awareness of the society, including teachers, as well as specific features of education for sustainable development as social practices.
Wzajemne oddziaływanie organizmów na siebie i środowisko przyrodnicze jest domeną badań ekologii. Dbałość o środowisko jest obowiązkiem każdego człowieka, tak jak troska o zdrowie, dom, własną rodzinę i innych ludzi. W życiu społecznym jednak nie zawsze tak się dzieje, a przyczyny tego są bardzo różnorodne. Przed pedagogiką stoi poważne wyzwanie prowadzenia badań świadomości ekologicznej obywateli oraz edukacja na rzecz zrównoważonego rozwoju (ZR). Zagadnienie to znalazło miejsce w Konstytucji RP, w aktach prawnych oraz w europejskich strategiach ZR. Artykuł przedstawia historię procesu ZR oraz analizę badań świadomości ekologicznej nauczycieli przeprowadzonych przed i po zakończeniu Dekady Edukacji dla ZR ogłoszonej przez ONZ na lata 2005–2014. Wyniki badań wskazują na potrzebę prowadzenia permanentnej edukacji na rzecz ZR nie tylko wśród nauczycieli, ale i całego społeczeństwa. Autorka artykułu jest biologiem i pedagogiem, od wielu lat zajmuje się prowadzeniem edukacji ekologicznej nauczycieli i studentów.

Education for sustainable development has not featured strongly in the discourse promoted by the journal, Prob-lemy Ekorozwoju/Problems of Sustainable Development. This paper provides a brief background to environmental education (EE) and education for sustainable development (ESD) and focuses on the theorization and pedagogies appropriate for ESD if perceived as transformative and political education. The obstacles that stand in the path of education for sustainable development are overviewed, and an attempt is made to suggest key questions that may underpin a transformative curriculum of education for sustainable development. It is hoped that the paper encour-ages further discussion in Problemy Ekorozwoju of issues around education for sustainable development.
Jak dotąd, problematyka edukacji dla zrównoważonego rozwoju nie gościła zbyt często w czasopiśmie Problemy Ekorozwoju/Problems of Sustainable Development. Ten artykuł prezentuje podstawy zarówno edukacji środowiskowej (EE – environmental education), jak i edukacji dla zrównoważonego rozwoju (ESD – education for sustainable development). Szczególny nacisk położono na aspekty teoretyczne i pedagogiczne właściwe dla podejścia, w ramach którego edukację dla rozwoju zrównoważonego postrzegamy jako dokonującą zmian i polityczną. Przedstawiono przeszkody dla tak rozumianej edukacji. Podjęto także próbę sfomułowania kluczowych pytań, które wspierałyby przełomowy program edukacji dla zrównoważonego rozwoju. Miejmy nadzieję, że niniejszy artykuł przyczyni się do szerszej dyskusji na temat zrównoważonej edukacji.

Sustainable Development (SD) is one the most discussed issue now days, which is gaining priority day by day due to the exploitation of nature in a drastic way. It is from this apprehension that ‘Education for sustainable development’ (ESD) emerged with an immediate urge to preserve and conserve our nature and natural resources. The concept of ESD entangles the different countries and states across the world as a whole for a sustainable society, which merges the environment, economic and social dimensions. The paper discusses about the effect of integrated approach to education for sustainable development on the students’ knowledge on sustainable development. The investigator developed a curriculum by integrating SD concepts into science and social science of VII standard of NCERT syllabus and various learning activities for their transaction by incorporating several pedagogical strategies that lead to constructing knowledge, developing social perspectives and analytical abilities.The study was of quasi experimental in nature with two group pre-test- post-test design, whereby the integrated curriculum was taught to the experimental group for about five months and the control group was exposed to the conventional curriculum and methodology. It was found that there was a significant difference on the knowledge on sustainable development between experimental and control group. The experimental group had a higher mean knowledge score than the control group.On the basis of the findings from the study, it is concluded that there is a sheer need to highlight the importance of integration of SD components in pedagogy at all levels.

Since early childhood a man should be able to undertake activities aiming at environmental protection and exploiting the Earth resources in a sustainable way. Shaping ecological consciousness is a responsibility of every community and it requires various forms and methods. Campaigns of regional organisations play a crucial role in education. An example of the discussed organisations is the Regional Centre of Ecological Education in Płock, which has been providing children, adolescents and adults with ecological education for 21 years, thus activating them to take actions for environmental protection. Research conducted by the institution and the findings unambiguously prove effectiveness of the undertaken actions and a need to continue the development of that kind of campaign.
Człowiek już od najmłodszych lat powinien być zdolny do podejmowania działań mających na celu ochronę środowiska i korzystanie z zasobów ziemi w sposób zrównoważony. Kształtowanie świadomości ekologicznej jest koniecznością w każdej społeczności, wymaga też zróżnicowanych form oraz metod. Bardzo ważny udział w edukacji mają działania organizacji regionalnych. Przykładem jest Regionalne Centrum Edukacji Ekologicznej w Płocku, które od 21 lat prowadzi edukację ekologiczną dla dzieci, młodzieży oraz dorosłych, aktywizując ich do działań mających na celu ochronę środowiska. Przeprowadzone w tej instytucji badania oraz uzyskane z nich wyniki jednoznacznie świadczą o skuteczności podejmowanych przedsięwzięć oraz o potrzebie ich ciągłego rozwijania.

Opis:
The paper is an attempt to define possibilities and limitations of fulfilling the assumptions of sustainable development on the level of formal edu-cation in the context of respecting culture and nature. The authors refer to two areas of education – artistic and environmental – which are connected by the relationships between biodiversity and cultural diversity. Common objectives of art and environmental education (sensitivity), common ways of educational methods (multisensory experience) and common contents (cultural education) are suggested by the authors to be factors favoring the fulfillment of the concept, while the structure and language of core curriculum is considered to be a poten-tial threat.
Tekst stanowi próbę określenia możliwości i ograniczeń realizacji założeń zrównoważonego rozwoju na poziomie edukacji formalnej w kontekś cie poszanowania kultury i natury. Autorki odnoszą się do dwóch obszarów edu-kacji – artystycznej i środowiskowej – które łączy istnienie związków między bioróżnorodnością a różnorodnością kulturową. Wspólne cele tych edukacji (wrażliwość), wspólne sposoby oddziaływań wychowawczych (doświadczanie wielozmysłowe) i wspólny obszar treściowy (edukacja kulturowa) autorki wska-zują jako czynniki sprzyjające urzeczywistnianiu koncepcji, zaś strukturę i język programu nauczania jako potencjalne zagrożenie.

Opis:
The concept as the system concept is arousing the sustainable development a lot doubts by comparing expressions in the name about contrary meanings. This notion coming originally from the forest administration region, in the 21st century immanently is connected with the ethicaleconomic concept of essential needs and with the idea of limited possibilities of the environmental global system. Accurately and briefly essence of the problem of exaggerated consuming the natural environment and intensifying antropopression is returning the determination “border of height”. Poland undergoing a systemic transformation so far more has common to the imitative modernization than the sustainable development. Hence also not there is a role of the education for overrating: natural, ecological, sozological and environmental in action to his thing. The both formal and unofficial education is shaping desired socially needs, attitudes and patterns of behaviour, including them in expected and useful environmentally and ecologically moral values and ethical principles. Based on not next to formulate it is possible strategies of education, environment-friendly action which would be well up to ecohumanistic existence. Concluding, success of the sustainable development – not only economies – is becoming possible thanks to the knowledge: natural, ecological, sozological, economic and ethical.
Koncepcja zrównoważonego rozwoju jako koncepcja systemowa wzbudza wiele wątpliwości poprzez zestawienie w nazwie wyrazów o sprzecznych znaczeniach. Pojęcie to, pochodząc pierwotnie z leśnictwa, w XXI wieku immanentnie związane jest z etyczno-ekonomiczną koncepcją podstawowych potrzeb i ideą ograniczonych możliwości globalnego systemu ekologicznego. Trafnie i skrótowo meritum problemu nadmiernego zużywania środowiska naturalnego i nasilającej się antropopresji oddaje określenie „granice wzrostu”. Polska, przechodząc transformację systemową, jak dotąd więcej ma wspólnego z modernizacją imitacyjną niż ze zrównoważonym rozwojem. Stąd też nie do przecenienia jest rola edukacji: przyrodniczej, ekologicznej, sozologicznej i środowiskowej w działaniach na jego rzecz. Edukacja, zarówno formalna, jak i nieformalna, kształtuje pożądane społecznie potrzeby, postawy i wzory zachowań, ujmując je w oczekiwane i przydatne środowiskowo i ekologicznie wartości moralne i zasady etyczne. W oparciu o nie z kolei formułować można strategie działań wychowawczych, proekologicznych, które zorientowane byłyby na egzystencję ekohumanistyczną. Konkludując, powodzenie zrównoważonego rozwoju – nie tylko gospodarki – staje się możliwe dzięki wiedzy: przyrodniczej, ekologicznej, sozologicznej, ekonomicznej i etycznej.
