Opis:
Human ecology is a science of mutual relations between human population and natural habitat. It uses complex approach to research many aspects of human life, especially human dynamic relations with the closest environment: family, home, nature and local community, and creating healthy environment for everyday life. There is a new challenge for pedagogy, i.e. forming human ecological awareness defined as knowledge of environment. There is also an issue of competencies and active practices for environmental protection. Ecological pedagogy, in its assumptions, does not support the idea of anthropocentrism conceived as human being’s dominance over nature; its idea is education for coexistence and human protection of nature in order to maintain it for next generations and achieve sustainable development. The aim of this article is to draw attention to the level of ecological awareness of the society, including teachers, as well as specific features of education for sustainable development as social practices.
Wzajemne oddziaływanie organizmów na siebie i środowisko przyrodnicze jest domeną badań ekologii. Dbałość o środowisko jest obowiązkiem każdego człowieka, tak jak troska o zdrowie, dom, własną rodzinę i innych ludzi. W życiu społecznym jednak nie zawsze tak się dzieje, a przyczyny tego są bardzo różnorodne. Przed pedagogiką stoi poważne wyzwanie prowadzenia badań świadomości ekologicznej obywateli oraz edukacja na rzecz zrównoważonego rozwoju (ZR). Zagadnienie to znalazło miejsce w Konstytucji RP, w aktach prawnych oraz w europejskich strategiach ZR. Artykuł przedstawia historię procesu ZR oraz analizę badań świadomości ekologicznej nauczycieli przeprowadzonych przed i po zakończeniu Dekady Edukacji dla ZR ogłoszonej przez ONZ na lata 2005–2014. Wyniki badań wskazują na potrzebę prowadzenia permanentnej edukacji na rzecz ZR nie tylko wśród nauczycieli, ale i całego społeczeństwa. Autorka artykułu jest biologiem i pedagogiem, od wielu lat zajmuje się prowadzeniem edukacji ekologicznej nauczycieli i studentów.

The objective of this paper is to propose effective methods to implement sustainable development principles among young people, both in schools and universities. The authors of this article recognize the significant potential among young individuals whose actions and choices have a substantial impact on the environment. By analyzing the knowledge and behaviors of young people towards sustainable development and environmental protection, based on surveys conducted among pupils and students from the south-eastern region of Poland, this paper identifies gaps that require improvement and proposes actions aimed at raising pro-ecological awareness among the youth. The analysis revealed that only 25% of the respondents have heard about the "Agenda for Sustainable Development – 2030", 20% were familiar with the goals of sustainable development, and few have participated in initiatives for sustainable development. However, 58% of respondents claimed to engage in activities for environmental protection in their daily lives. The article also presents the degree of compliance with the assumptions of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development on both global and local scales. Furthermore, the paper analyzes two aspects of students' awareness of sustainable development: their knowledge of goals and documents, and their pro-ecological behavior in daily life. Based on the findings, this paper proposes ways to introduce sustainable development principles in selected areas of school and university functioning to enhance ecological awareness and shape pro-ecological attitudes among young people. Concrete actions to facilitate implementation are also suggested.

In this report we point out the requirement of local communities for environmental education of society that results from accession of Poland to the project titled „Decade for Sustainable Development 2005-2014”. The paper includes results of the surveys carried out among students, teachers and officers of communes that reveal the role of environmental education in schools, communes and universities. The results demonstrate that environmental education should become connected with actions in aid of both natural and social local environments.
W pracy wskazano na zapotrzebowanie środowiska lokalnego na edukację środowiskową społeczeństwa, wynikające z przystąpienia Polski do udziału w projekcie Dekada Edukacji dla Zrównoważonego Rozwoju 2005-2014. Praca zawiera wyniki badań ankietowych studentów, nauczycieli i pracowników gmin wskazujące miejsce i rolę edukacji środowiskowej w szkole, gminie oraz na studiach przyrodniczych i pedagogicznych. Wyniki świadczą o konieczności zbliżenia trendów kształcenia przyrodniczego do praktycznych działań na rzecz lokalnego środowiska przyrodniczego i społecznego.

The balanced development is at present the challenge for creating the awareness not only of the particular society, but also in the widest sense for the whole generation of the people. Undertaking such issues, the role of education during all stages of teaching, should be taken into consideration, especially, in the range of propagating the idea of responsibility for the natural environment with eco-development. It is a specially important element of teaching according to the principle of pro-environmental education to undertake all actions in the educational centers, which aim is to stimulate the environmental awareness of young people as well as to prepare the pedagogical staff to the realization of the wide range of methods and strategies that allow to get the best results during the process of educating young generation. The appropriate undertakings should be realized in order to support the education in the process of introducing the right value system and positive attitudes towards realization of the sixth Environmental politics of the EU Programme. With the connection to the carried on initial research associated with the knowledge about the balanced development among high school students, analysing the results of the questionnaires, the answer to the question whether students possess any kind of knowledge on balanced development was to be learned.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest analiza złożoności edukacji środowiskowej (ES) i jej różnych podstawowych aspektów. Artykuł analizuje najnowszą historię oraz cele i metody stosowane we współczesnej EŚ. EŚ jest  kompleksowym i długoterminowym procesem, który należy kontynuować, aby był on efektywny. W tym celu potrzebna jest technika i mechanizmy o szerokim zakresie nauczania. Najbardziej ambitnym celem EŚ jest nie tylko informowanie i szkolenie ludzi, ale podnoszenie ich świadomości, zmiana ich zachowania i ewentualne promowanie odpowiedniego działania w sprawie środowiska. Złożona specyfika tej tematyki staje się bardziej zrozumiała, jeśli analizujemy drogi, którym i różne cele w EŚ powinny być osiągane. Dla każdej grupy nacisku (władza, handel i przemysł, środowisko naukowe, środowiskowe organizacje pozarządowe, obywatel i klient, środki przekazu) istnieje szybko w zrastająca liczba możliwości i bardziej specyficzne narzędzia przybliżania się do celów EŚ. Niniejszy artykuł ocenia podstaw owe elementy EŚ (historia, cele i metody) i zwraca szczególną uwagę na traktowanie tego zagadnienia przez grupy o różnych dążeniach (celach) w zarządzaniu i polityce środowiskowej. Analizowany jest wzajemny układ między edukacją środowiskową i wychowaniem dla zrównoważonego rozwoju. O pisana jest nieustająca dyskusja, która łączy te tematy z ubóstwem. Mimo, że istnieje bezpośredni związek między tym i problemami, rozważania te nie powinny osłabiać uwagi poświęcanej problemom środowiskowym jako takim. Artykuł w części końcowej zawiera opis projektu EŚ, skierowanego do uczniów szkół średnich i dotyczącego problemu radzenia sobie ze środowiskiem w ich regionie. Kompleksowa ocena EŚ ukazu je rosnący dystans między działalnością na tym polu a celami teoretycznymi. Ta konkluzja wzywa do istotnych finansowych inwestycji w dziedzinie EŚ, zarówno przez kraje uprzemysłowione, jak i rozwijające się.

The development of a national system of education for sustainable natural resources as a form of social activity has been theoretically proved and aimed at optimizing management training environmental experts by improving its professional oriented content, scientific, methodological and information support, structural and organizational structure for the intended purpose. It was determined that organizational and functional structure of environmental management as a set of (system) levels in the unity of their functions, powers and organizational relations and provides a holistic effect on the social system and the environment. It was found that the theoretical foundation of management training problem decision of future ecologists for the balanced nature management is a complex combination of approaches: system, ecosystem, system-structural, systemic-functional, competency, synergistic, axiological, acmeological, ecocentric, noosphere.

Rozwój zrównoważony jest nowym modelem rozwoju społeczno-gospodarczego ludzkości, który ma być odpowiedzią na zagrożenia grożące naszej cywilizacji. Jego wdrażanie napotyka jednak wyraźne trudności. Przyczyny tkwić mogą w sposobie myślenia przedstawicieli zachodniej cywilizacji. Najważniejsze wydają się być dwie: utrzymująca się nadal dominacja myślenia ekonomicznego nad ekologicznym i brak myślenia wspólnotowego. W Polsce edukacja na rzecz rozwoju zrównoważonego jest często mylona z edukacją ekologiczną. Rodzi to wrażenie, że rozwój zrównoważony jest równoznaczny z ochroną środowiska. Ponadto, powinno się bardziej wychowywać do rozwoju zrównoważonego niż tylko edukować na jego temat. W procesie tym należy kształtować postawy altruistyczne, prospołeczne, postawy typu „być”, a nie „mieć”. Powinno się wychowywać do życia we wspólnocie. Edukacja i wychowanie do ekorozwoju powinny być wzmacniane odpowiednimi działaniami państwa i władz samorządowych różnych szczebli polegającymi między innymi na zwiększeniu udziału obywateli w procesach decyzyjnych dotyczących rozwoju regionu, z decydowaniem o budżecie włącznie. Tylko takie wielopłaszczyznowe zintegrowanie wielu działań pozwoli przyspieszyć proces wdrażania rozwoju zrównoważonego w naszym kraju i na świecie.
Sustainable development constitutes a new socio-economic development model of the human population which is a response to the risks that our civilization is exposed to. However, its implementation meets serious difficulties. The reasons may reside in the way in which the western civilization thinks. Among them two seem the most important: a continuous domination of economic over ecological thinking and lack of community thinking. In Poland education for sustainable development is often confused with environmental education. This makes an impression that sustainable development is an equivalent to environmental protection. The issue is however that sustainable development should be integrated with upbringing rather than educating about. This process should include the development of altruistic , pro-social attitudes, attitudes of “to be” rather than “to have”. One should be brought up to live in a community. Education and upbringing for sustainable development should be facilitated by appropriate efforts made on the state level as well as by local government administration such as increasing public participation in decision making processes addressing regional development including budget decisions. Only such multidimentional integration of actions may boost the implementation of the sustainable development process in our country and worldwide.

The interdisciplinary nature of environmental protection dooms most of the presently applied protection methods to failure. It is particularly vital an issue in present times of an ecological crisis that occurred as an effect of tackling environmental problems solely from a technical point of view. A crucial role in eliminating the effects and causes of the crisis plays the idea of sustainable development. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out proper educational activities for practical realization of its demands what may end the ecological crisis. The author of the paper presents currently applied educational methods and consequences of their application. Simultaneously he points out a necessity of a holistic approach to education for sustainable development that might be guaranteed, among others, by ecophilosophy. He also highlights the potential of information technology in the realization of educational activities for sustainable development.

Both the development of the civilization today as well as the lifestyle of the society based on the consumption do not always involve the behaviors dealing with providing the mental picture of lives according to the laws of nature and its respect. The causes of this situation may result from a variety of educational negligence and the materialistic lifestyle created by the mass media. The level of consciousness can be significantly improved due to the competent preparation of the future teachers to realize the issues of the ecology and of the “sustainable development” in the educational process. There was an investigation carried out to find out the level of the respondents’ knowledge and to get the comprehensive knowledge on the required problem, i.e. if and to what degree the students of the natural science specializations were prepared to realize the issues of the sustainable development. The number of 297 students was involved in the investigation. They represented the following specializations: biology, geography, and chemistry in their universities.
