    The article presents industrial and technological parks, operating in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodship. The essence of the research was the diagnosis of functional zones for the region and entrepreneurs. The purpose of the article was to investigate whether the existence of industrial, industrial and technological parks has an impact on the attractiveness of the region and whether it encourages new investors to undertake economic activity. Based on the research, it has been pointed out that the parks and their incubators and other centers supporting entrepreneurship have a number of favorable conditions. Starting a business in their area. It is also significant that the existence of the zones contributed to the increase in the number of new jobs in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodship, as well as investors willing to invest their capital in the parks.
    W artykule przedstawiono parki przemysłowo-technologiczne, działające na terenie województwa kujawsko-pomorskiego. Istotą przeprowadzonych badań była diagnoza funkcjonalności stref dla regionu i przedsiębiorców. Celem artykułu było zbadanie, czy istnienie parków przemysłowych, przemy-słowo-technologicznych ma wpływ na atrakcyjność regionu i czy zachęca nowych inwestorów do podejmowania działalności gospodarczej. Na podstawie przeprowadzanych badań wskazano, że parki i funkcjonujące przy nich inkubatory oraz inne ośrodki wspierające przedsiębiorczość posiadają szereg uwarunkowań sprzyjających podjęciu działalności gospodarczej na ich terenie. Istotny jest również fakt, iż istnienie stref przyczyniło się do wzrostu liczby nowych miejsc pracy w województwie kujawsko-pomorskim, jak również inwestorzy chętniej lokują swój kapitał na terenie parków.

    Opis:
    Institutions of higher education play a key role in regional innovation support ecosystems. Their role, apart from prevailing education and research missions, is also to transfer knowledge and technology to business. This transfer may take place in various ways, and one of them is to support students, doctoral students and academics in developing innovative ideas within university incubators. Innovations are strongly associated with risk; that is why, it is so important to support any emerging idea at the first stage of its development. This role is played, among others, by university-based incubators as well as pre-incubation, incubation and post-incubation programmes they offer. The aim of this article is to discuss the typology and role of incubators in supporting business ideas and to characterise the phases of incubation process. The example of a pre-incubation programme from Polish universities presented in the article illustrates the course of the process and the support package offered to idea originators.
    Uczelnie pełnią kluczową rolę w regionalnych ekosystemach wsparcia innowacji. Ich rolą jest, oprócz wiodącej edukacji i badań, również transfer wiedzy i technologii do biznesu. Transfer ten może się odbywać na różne sposoby, a jednym z nich jest wsparcia studentów, doktorantów i pracowników naukowych w rozwijaniu innowacyjnych pomysłów biznesowych w ramach inkubatorów uczelnianych. Innowacje są mocno powiązane z ryzykiem, dlatego tak ważne jest wsparcie rodzącego się pomysłu już na pierwszym etapie rozwoju. Temu służą właśnie University Based Incubators i oferowane przez nie programy pre-inkubacyjne, inkubacyjne oraz post-inkubacyjne. Celem artykułu jest omówienie typologii i roli inkubatorów. Zastosowano metodą przypadku, prezentując jeden z programów pre-inkubacyjnych z Polski, obrazujący przebieg procesu i oferowany pomysłodawcom rodzaj wsparcia.

    The article presents the essence of the Center for Technology Transfer (CTT). It diagnoses the current state and analyzes the tendency in the changes in Poland concerning CTTs during the last decade. Barriers for CTTs’ development in Poland have been presented with the final part of the article being devoted to plans for the future and the prospects for CTTs’ development in Poland in the 21st century.

    The aim of the paper is to present the functioning of the Organizational Model of the Business Incubator Center in Gliwice in the context of it’s functioning and model of financing. In the paper there is the description of main definition related to business innovation-based incubators, and functioning of the academic business incubators. Then on the basis of theoretical background we describe and analyses functioning of TECHNOPARK GLIWICE.
    Celem publikacji jest przedstawienie funkcjonowania Centrum Inkubatora Przedsiębiorczości w Gliwicach w kontekście jego działalności i modelu finansowania. W artykule zdefiniowano podstawowe pojęcia związane z inkubatorami opartymi na innowacjach biznesowych oraz z funkcjonowaniem inkubatorów przedsiębiorczości akademickiej. Następnie, na podstawie teoretycznych podstaw, opisano i przeanalizowano działanie Inkubatora TECHNO-PARK GLIWICE.

    The building of an innovative and competitive economy on the local and regional level involves the presence on the market of young entrepreneurs of exceptional ability and advanced knowledge which they may fall back on in the process of producing modern goods. This type of activity is backed up by the institutional sphere in the form of academic business incubators. The latter’s existence contributes to a better utilization of the intellectual potential of the local academic milieu, thanks to which both students and researchers are able to establish new companies and create quality jobs. The aim of the paper is to discuss the idea of academic business incubators.

    The paper problem connected with two potential function of the incubator center (learning factory and teaching laboratory) and its analysis. The concept of the learning factory at Penn State was recognized by the National Science Foundation with a “Gordon Prize” for innovation in engineering education in 2006. Recently the use of learning factories has increased especially in Europe. Learning factories have many different models with one common goal. The goal is to enhance engineering education. Research has shown that learning by doing leads to greater retention and quicker mastery of the subject. Second very important function of the incubator center is learning factory. In USA this approach is use in engineering courses. Where they are realized in incubators they can be more effective in many fields especially practical. Students in incubator center can do hand-on experiments and gain practical industrial experience. This is very important in engineers education process.

    Wyższe szkoły ekonomiczne kształcą tysiące absolwentów, nie dając im gwarancji zatrudnienia, co powoduje, że z każdym rokiem wzrasta wśród nich bezrobocie. Ta sytuacja zmusza do refleksji i zaproponowania zmian w modelu kształcenia. Jednym z wielu działań przeciwdziałającym narastającemu kryzysowi zatrudnienia może być specjalizacja, która umożliwi przyszłym studentom wybór uczelni przygotowującej ich do wejścia na rynek pracy: ‒ w przedsiębiorstwach, które zatrudniają pracowników do wykonywania powtarzalnych prac biurowo-administracyjnych, czyli rzemieślników precyzyjnie wykonujących przez lata identyczne czynności, ‒ w firmach poszukujących kreatywnych pracowników, mających nowe oryginalne pomysły na zmiany, ponieważ w dobie kryzysu niekonwencjonalne koncepcje mogą okazać się jedynym ratunkiem przed ich likwidacją, ‒ w małych firmach – na własny rachunek. Uczelnie ekonomiczne, realizując taką formę studiowania, musiałyby szybko reagować na zmiany koniunktury w gospodarce, a w wielu przypadkach przypominać inkubatory przedsiębiorczości pomnażające zasoby kapitału intelektualnego i społecznego każdego ze studentów.
    Economic colleges educate thousands of graduates without giving them job security. It increases unemployment among them each year. This situation makes us to reflect and to propose changes in the model of education. One of the many ways counteracting the growing crisis of employment, may be specialization of universities. It would allow students to choose the next school preparing them to enter the labor market: ‒ in businesses that employ workers to perform repetitive office and administrative work, the artisans engaged in the same steps over the years; ‒ in companies seeking creative staff, with new original ideas for change, because in times of crisis unconventional ideas can be the only salvation from the liquidation; ‒ in small businesses – the self-employed. Business schools implementing this form of study would have to react quickly to changes in the economy, and in many cases, to resemble incubators multipliers intellectual capital resources and social development of each student.

    Purpose: The paper provides a theoretical foundation of entrepreneurial ecosystems with strong focus on start-up ecosystem. The empirical purpose of the study is to identify the key actors, institutions and organisations which can provide a nurturing environment and services for the creation of the start-up ecosystem of the city of Poznań with regard to business-science-government collaboration. Design/methodology/approach: The research applies the method of in-depth semi-structured direct interview with experts in the field of support services to potential founders and start-ups with academic origin, the case study method, participatory observation, and reflection. The explorative qualitative study uses both descriptive and explanatory techniques. Findings: The research findings provide insight in the real nature of the local start-up ecosystem presenting its key stakeholders, the scope of their support and ways of creating a conducive environment for potential founders and start-ups. The research results highlight the importance of studying the interdependencies among key actors in the start-up ecosystem in order to provide them with necessary resources and to stimulate the synergy effect. Research limitations/implications: Research limitations resulting from the analysis of a purposefully-selected case of the start-up ecosystem do not allow formulating general conclusions. Nevertheless, it illustrates a real business practice and challenges of the development of the specific entrepreneurial ecosystem. Future research line will concern an in-depth analysis of the most critical obstacles in the process of start-up creation as well as the assessment of the interdependencies among the key stakeholders of the start-up ecosystem to look for more effective cooperation. Practical implications: The synthesis of the current reflections on entrepreneurial ecosystems and the research findings reflected here can benefit both employees of business incubators, researchers, and entrepreneurship teachers and become an inspiration for further analysis and extended research on problems associated with increasing the efficiency and sustainability of local start-up ecosystems and the need to build valuable relationships with key stakeholders. Originality/value: The originality of the conducted exploratory research lies in presenting the real business practice and challenges of the development of the specific entrepreneurial ecosystem, and thus contribute to the discussion on the dilemmas associated with conducting the more effective practice-oriented research on start-up ecosystems.

    W artykule przedstawiono rozwiązania mające na celu wsparcie przedsiębiorczości oraz rozwoju małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw. Przeprowadzono analizę rozwiązań, które zostały wdrożone w trzech krajach: Szkocji, Brazylii i Chile. Omówiono ewolucję zmian w polityce przedsiębiorczości w Szkocji w ciągu ostatnich kilkudziesięciu lat. Przedstawiono instytucje i wdrożone programy ukierunkowane na rozwój przedsiębiorczości, w tym rozwój branży venture capital i inkubatorów przedsiębiorczości.
    The paper presents initiatives aimed at supporting entrepreneurship and small and medium enterprises development. The analysis was conducted for three countries: Scotland, Brazil and Chile. The evolution of enterprise policy in Scotland during last few decades was presented. The paper also provides an overview of institutions and introduced programmes aimed at entrepreneurship development, including development of venture capital industry and business incubators.

    This paper concentrates on the analysis of the impact of Business Incubator Centre on the economy development. The analysis has been done on the example of Hazelton Incubator Centre in Pennsylvania (United States). We conduct our analysis using various indicators divided into four groups: social indicators, procedural indicators, technical indicators and financial indicators. On the basis of those indicators we analyses functioning of this business incubator center.

    This paper describes the cooperation between business incubator centers and the academic programs at local universities. Students and faculty from four different majors, Engineering, Business, Information Science Technology (IST) and Communication provided comprehensive assistance to new start-up and existing companies. At the same time, the students were gaining valuable experience learning the complexity of entrepreneurial ventures. Students were also developing the ability for cross-disciplinary oral and written communication.
