Opis:: Continuous program improvement and expectations of productivity of academic departments necessitate the use of web-based information sharing. This paper outlines how simple-to-use web-based environments such as documents repositories and collaborative ABET workspaces can improve the workflow of an academic department. They can boost the departmental productivity and faculty involvement in many aspects of teaching and accreditation efforts, and assist with faculty, staff and students interaction. Such environments reduce email communications and can vary by their degree of interactivity. Document repositories can be read-only, while interactive workspaces will typically extend read-write privileges to all participants. Furthermore, collaborative workspaces offer a democratic and open environment that encourages faculty and staff interaction. Finally, such workspaces remain easily scalable for projects of any size, and offer simplicity of navigation and easy-to-organize table of contents. The discussion of web-based tools has been illustrated with several examples of departmental repositories and interactive workspaces. Implementation guidelines are also offered for those interested in custom design of such tools.

Opis:: W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych w czerwcu 2015 roku wśród uczestników studiów III stopnia prowadzonych na Wydziale Organizacji i Zarządzania Politechniki Śląskiej. Badania te dotyczyły motywacji, oczekiwań i doświadczeń studentów odnośnie do podjętych studiów doktoranckich. Odpowiedzi na niektóre pytania były nieoczekiwane i zastanawiające. Sformułowane wnioski będą podstawą do refleksji nad kształtowaniem postaw doktorantów, ukierunkowanych m.in. na wzrost jakości prowadzonych badań naukowych.
The article presents the results of a research conducted in June 2015 among PhD students at the Faculty of Organization and Management, Silesian University of Technology. The research were related to motivation, expectations and experiences of PhD students with regard to Doctoral Programs. Some answers were unexpected and puzzling. Conclusion will be the basis for reflection on the evolution of PhD students attitudes focused on the quality of research.

Opis:: The article presents the evaluation of usefulness of selected computer applications applied in the process of educating students from ordered specialty Environmental Engineering who study at the Silesian University of Technology in the faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering. The evaluation was carried out by means of the analysis of questionnaires filled in by the graduates of the first cycle degree programme at the aforementioned specialty. The analysis was carried out for both, the area of application of the selected software related to the didactic process and the area of the software application in the predicted professional career of the students surveyed.
W artykule przedstawiono ocenę przydatności wybranych programów komputerowych zastosowanych w procesie kształcenia studentów kierunku zamawianego inżynieria środowiska studiujących na Wydziale Inżynierii Środowiska i Energetyki Politechniki Śląskiej. Ocenę przeprowadzono poprzez analizę ankiet wypełnionych przez absolwentów studiów I stopnia ww. kierunku. Przeprowadzono analizę zarówno dla obszaru zastosowań wybranych programów związanego z procesem dydaktycznym, jak i dla obszaru zastosowań tego oprogramowania w prognozowanej karierze zawodowej ankietowanych studentów.

Opis:: Fusion, in all its varieties, is a very current subject of science and technology. The results of strongly exothermic reaction of thermonuclear fusion between nuclei of deuterium and tritium are: helium nuclei and neutrons, plus considerable kinetic energy of neutrons of over 14 MeV. DT nuclides synthesis reaction is probably not the most favorable one for energy production, but is the most advanced technologically. More efficient would be possibly an aneutronic fusion. The EU by its EURATOM agenda prepared a Road Map for research and implementation of Fusion as a commercial method of thermonuclear energy generation in the time horizon of 2050. The milestones on this road are tokomak experiments JET, ITER and DEMO, and neutron experiment IFMIF. There is a hope, that by engagement of the national government, and all research and technical fusion and plasma communities, part of this Road Map may be realized in Poland. The infrastructure build for fusion experiments may be also used for material engineering research, chemistry, biomedical, associated with environment protection, power engineering, security, etc. Construction of such research and industrial accelerator and tokomak infrastructure may have potentially a profound meaning for the development of science and technology in Poland.
