Opis:
A major problem in the combustion diesel engines is the different distribution of the mixture of air and fuel and also temperatures inside the combustion chamber. It helps the formation of points of the high and low oxygen concentration in the combustion chamber of the engine. In areas with a high concentration of oxygen, the combustion process produces very harmful NOx, and in places with low oxygen concentration, as a result of incomplete fuel combustion particles are created in the form of soot. This not regular distribution of the mixture of air and fuel and temperatures in the combustion chamber affect the limited maximum engine power and efficiency at his every operating cycle. One method for improving the combustion process is feeding into the engine air with high relative humidity. The study was conducted on a chassis dynamometer at the Department of Vehicles Engineering Wroclaw University of Technology. For the purposes of the study determined the external characteristics, including maximum engine power and maximum engine torque at different air relative humidity and quite similar air temperature. Analysis of the results of research shows that high air relative humidity has a positive effect on the work parameters of the diesel engine.

This article presents a new method for analysing the torque of an internal combustion engine using registered electromechanical runs and magnetic field distribution in a starter. The aim of the study was to develop a model of the starting current of an internal combustion engine and carry out verification tests on real objects. The developed model allows to simulate the shutdown of individual cylinders. Experimental research was conducted using the Bosch FSA 740 equipment for four internal combustion engines under variable operating conditions. During testing, the starting current and relative compression in cylinders were recorded. Simulating the variable load of the starter, the magnetic induction distribution of the magnetic induction was recorded in the feed slot. The research will be used to develop a method of diagnosing the starter and determining the torque of the internal combustion engine.

Głównym tematem pracy jest wykorzystanie modelu ruchu pojazdu do obiektywnego wyznaczania oddziaływania poszczególnych pojazdów na gospodarkę i środowisko. Pomiar rzeczywistej emisji substancji szkodliwych i zużycia paliwa dla pojedynczego pojazdu może wiązać się ze zbyt dużymi kosztami. Ceny analizatorów emisji spalin kształtują się na poziomie około 150 000 EU. Istnieje jednak możliwość pośredniego wyznaczenia rzeczywistej emisji substancji szkodliwych i zużycia paliwa. Omawiana metoda opiera się na wyznaczaniu przebiegu zmienności stopnia obciążenia silnika, jaką można przypisać danym wartościom emisji substancji szkodliwych i zużycia paliwa. Charakterystyki emisji silnika i zużycia paliwa muszą być wstępnie znane. Model ruchu pojazdu wykorzystuje się do wyznaczania przebiegu zmienności stopnia obciążenia silnika.
The main topic of the paper is usage of vehicle movement model for objective determination of economic and environmental impacts caused by separate vehicles. Measurement of the real production of harmful emissions and fuel consumption on a vehicle might be too expensive. The price of car emission analyzers are app. around 150 000 EU. But it is possible to determine the real production of harmful emissions and the fuel consumption indirectly. A principle of the method is based on determination of engine load course that is possible to be assigned to the production of harmful emission and the fuel consumption. Characteristics of the engine's emissions and the fuel consumption must be known preliminary. The model of the vehicle movement is used to determine the engine load course.

The article presents torque characteristic of the engine in dynamic operating conditions as a function of engine speed and throttle opening angle. All mentioned parameters are analyzed as independent variables over time. To develop such a characteristic an artificial neural network is used. The training data were obtained from measurements carried out on the test bench on SI engine. The operating states reflect all possible configurations of these parameters, which may occur during use of the vehicle in real traffic conditions. The article shows design of an artificial neural network that allows to designate the required dependences. Moreover, it describes the fit of the model to the measurement data, which clearly indicates its correctness. Then the developed characteristic in dynamic states is compared with the characteristic in static working states. The differences between them for selected cases of engine operation states are presented. It shows the versatility of the presented method.

The article presents an analysis of the possibility of using DME fuel to power internal combustion engines. The possibilities of using DME as an engine fuel in relation to world and European achievements have been widely discussed. Moreover, the preliminary results of the tests determining the possibility of using the DME-LPG mixture to power the diesel engine are presented. The research consisted in determining the influence of the DME-LPG mixture on the power and torque of the engine at various loads. The changes in the temperature of the exhaust gases were also determined in relation to the different proportions of DME in the mixture.
W artykule przedstawiono analizę możliwości zastosowania paliwa DME do zasilania silników spalinowych. Przeprowadzono szerokie omówienie możliwości zastosowania DME jako paliwa silnikowego w odniesieniu do osiągnięć światowych i europejskich. Ponadto przedstawiono wstępne wyniki badań określających możliwość zastosowania mieszaniny DME - LPG do zasilania silnika ZI. Badania polegały na określeniu wpływu mieszaniny DME - LPG na moc i moment obrotowy silnika przy różnych jego obciążeniach. Określono także zmiany temperatury gazów wylotowych w odniesieniu do różnych udziałów DME w mieszaninie.

The theoretical reasons of creation the reactive rotation disc engine on cascade pressure exchanger base (ERR CEP) have been stated. The particularities of ERR CEP working process in collation with wave disc engine on wave pressure exchanger base have been considered. It is in particular shown that cascade pressure exchange principles use allows vastly to increase the pressure of preliminary compression of charge and also to reduce the loss of expanding products of combustion in useful work turning moment of engine.
Ан н от ация. изложены теоретические предпосылки создания дискового двигателя реактивного вращения на базе каскадного обменника давления (ДРВ КОД). Рассмотрены особенности рабочего процесса ДРВ КОД в сопоставлении с волновым дисковым двигателем на базе волнового обменника давления. В частности показано, что использование принципов каскадного обмена давлением позволяет значительно увеличить давление предварительного сжатия заряда, а также снизить потери расширяющихся продуктов сгорания в полезную работу крутящего момента двигателя.

Combustion engines are commonly used in car propulsion systems. They belong to a group of heat engines, i.e. those that convert the heat obtained from combustion of liquid or gaseous fuels into mechanical work. Engine parameters, such as power output (Pd ), torque (Ttq) and adaptability to variable traffic [motion] conditions, represent vehicle motion and its functional properties. The torque (Ttq) and the crankshaft speed (n) are measured directly with the use of dynamometer at specific measurement conditions but the power (Pd ) is determined indirectly. The relationships between these parameters are presented using external characteristics. They allow determination of engine adaptability to changes in the resistance to motion, i.e. its flexibility (E). In the paper, flexibility and analytical determination of the power and torque curves through application of Leidemann’s formulas are discussed. Results of the research conducted with the use of turbocharged compressionignition engine equipped with Common Rail fuel system are presented. The correlation between the power and torque curves based on Leidemann’s formulas and the real curves obtained on the basis of experimental research (with application of engine dynamometer) are verified. Finally, evaluation of the method applied for determining the power curves by the speed range of FIAT 1.3 JTD engine was made.

The following paper introduces us to possibility of using visualization to present running point of main marine diesel engine during ship operation. Construction development of ship marine diesel engine going towards more and more power results in large mechanical and thermal load. So ship marine diesel engines of new generation are more susceptible to damage caused by overloading than the ones of older generation. For this reason more and more attention is paid to proper operation of these main marine engines understood as the way of choosing the right parameters resulting in adequate point of engine operation. This kind of exploitation is being reflected in more and more rigorous requirements imposed by ship engine producers concerning the conditions of their exploitation. This paper presents measured parameters during engine operation and of the sometime confirming its current performance. Special attention has been paid to the measurement of torque. Measurement of torque and revolution speed of the main marine diesel engine have been linked with the possibility of visual presentation of running point of the engine. By means of research carried out of HCP Engine Test Bed it was possible to prove effectiveness of succession of measurement instruments and torque meter action. Visualization algorithm which can be used to present field of work and running point of the engine has also been tested.

Continuous monitoring of diesel engine performance under its operating is critical for prediction of malfunction development and subsequently functional failure detection. Analysis of Instantaneous angular Speed (IAS) of the crankshaft is considered as one of non-intrusive and effective method of detection of combustion quality deterioration. The paper contains presentation of attempt of monitoring of piston engine’s crankshaft torsional vibrations by measurement of Instantaneous Angular Speed at free and power output ends of the engine. It is assumed that calculation of differential value of angular distance run between both ends in the same time shall give the picture of torsion angle magnitudes and phases of the peak values. Fir carrying out such measurements, high frequency of sampling was required. The angular speed measurements is to be done utilising two optical sensors for reading and two perforated discs mounted at shaft’s ends playing the role of speed signal emitters. In the paper is presented description of the measurement system and explanation of its mode of work. It is also shown analysis of measurement accuracy, way errors elimination and method of signals runs filtration. Presented results of experiment derives from test cycle carried out using laboratory stand of Gdynia Maritime University equipped with 3- cylinder self - ignition engine, powering electric generator.

A ring pack of modern IC engine consists of at least one compression ring that should guarantee secure a necessary tightness of combustion chamber. A circumferential wall pressure of correctly designed compression ring should be sufficient to achieve a full contact between wall and ring, which means light tightness preventing gas blowby. Lack of tightness is being considered as a principal cause of deterioration of engine performance data including torque instability, and a rapid grow in ring and cylinder wear within the area of blow-by. During engine design process mathematical models are applied which implement analytical and numerical methods of calculation. Analytical methods that were used earlier presented a limited range of application and lower accuracy in comparison to the numerical methods but they allowed achieving approximate results quicker. Taking this into consideration the presented study describes the most important relations between ring geometry and its wall pressure, which were obtained using the analytical methods. Presented formulas facilitate the evaluation of cylinder wear effect on the ring circumferential pressure distribution, especially the change in liner diameter. An attempt of light slits evaluation has been performed as well. The study was supplemented with graphs and calculative example.

Friction resistance identification is indispensable to determine the results of engine modifications which goal was to improve the engine mechanical efficiency. Unfortunately measurement of the friction torque is very difficult to realize because in the total motion resistance torque of the combustion engine the friction torque is only a small part. Resistance torque connected with compression of working medium and also at higher engine speeds with inertia resistance is much higher than friction torque. As a result of research made on the engine test bed the course of resistance connected with realization of the thermodynamic cycle were defined. Sufficient accuracy of these courses allows making an attempt to evolve friction resistance signal from global resistance signal. In the paper comparison of the total motion resistance with results of friction resistance computer simulations for hydrodynamic lubrication of piston-cylinder liner kinematic assembly will be made. It is worth to emphasize that movement resistance researches were made at the serial engine with only slight modifications, which considerably restricts the possibility of diversified engine working conditions influence in relation to the actual engine. Further researches on complete movement resistance simulation of the combustion engine are intended to be realized in order to determine the realizability and probable range of desirable friction losses reduction. Promising results will allow designing the competitive engine relative to present tendencies of "ECOMATIC" engine operation system which was proposed for the first time by Volskswagen.

The article describes processing method of a signal, coming from torsional deflections of an internal combustion piston engine’s crankshaft, registered using two optical encoders ETNP-10. Standard measurement and recording set ETNP-10 enables recording of Instantaneous Angular Speed values encompassing 10 revolutions of the crankshaft, what is equal to 5 cycles of four-stroke engine. That time duration is sufficient for analysis of changes of angular speed caused by, for example, malfunction of fuel injection valve, but is insufficient in case of observation characterized by low frequency changes with period of fluctuations, lower than 0.8 sec. Short time for recording makes impossible following of instantaneous angular speed deviations caused by magnitude modulation of engine’s load value. In the article is presented an algorithm written in MATLAB environment, which allows processing of the data recorded using the recorder DAS 1600 Sefram. The recorded this way signals have around 26 seconds' duration of engine work. Data acquired from two encoders mounted at opposite sides of the shaft, in form of square magnitude signals are transformed into instantaneous speed and subsequently to instantaneous angular shift, what is basis for torsions calculation. In the article is also presented method of elimination of systematic error due to assumed method of averaging. Finally, some examples of results of torsional deflection measurement and analysis are presented.

In the paper are presented results of researches aimed on detection and recognition of dumping effect in the exhaust pipeline using devices dedicated for engine’s torque and angular speed measurement. The experiment was carried out in test stand of Gdynia Maritime University; equipped with one-cylinder, low speed engine working in two-stroke mode. Effect of increasing of gas flow resistance was achieved by installation of shutters in cross-section of exhaust pipe. The shutters diminished active flow „window“ for 50% of normal crossection area of the exhaust pipe The plan of measurements encompasses registration of Instantaneous Angular Speed of the engine’s shaft and parallel registration of Instantaneous Value of Shaft Torsion, what reflect fluctuation of torque. Value of angular speed and toque enables exact calculation of power produced by the engine. Experiment included measurements at different levels of engine’s load and with changes of mean rotational speed. Angular speed and shaft’s torsion were measured and recorded using system ETNP-10 which is based on optical sensor and set of toothed discs. That method gives high accuracy of angular speed and torsion measurement. Results of experiment are presented as difference of related curves of values’ variations of angular speed and torsion occurring at the propulsion shaft connecting the engine and the water brake.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań silników z zapłonem samoczynnym, przeprowadzonych na hamowni inercyjnej. Badania wykazały, że silnik typu Y22DTR charakteryzuje się wyższą mocą oraz momentem obrotowym niż silnik typu AFN. Pomimo wyższego momentu obrotowego silnik Y22DTR posiada mniej korzystny zakres prędkości obrotowej wału korbowego, dla której moment obrotowy osiąga wartości zbliżone do maksymalnych. Uzyskane wyniki świadczą o tym, że układ korbowo-tłokowy silnika Y22DTR z uwagi na większy moment obrotowy i moc jest obciążony większymi siłami niż silnik AFN.
The article presents results of tests for self-ignition engines, carried out in inertial engine test house. The research has shown that Y22DTR type engine has more horsepower and higher torque than AFN type engine. In spite of higher torque, the Y22DTR engine offers less favourable range of crankshaft rotational speed, for which torque reaches values close to maximum. The results show that due to higher torque and horsepower, the assembly of crankshaft, pistons and connecting rods in the Y22DTR engine is subject to higher forces than the AFN engine.

The objective of this research project was to determine the percentage impact of dry-medium air filter being used in Fiat Multijet 1.3 JTD engine on its operational properties (engine flexibility and specific fuel consumption). Experiments were performed according to the requirements of research methods specified in the piston combustion engine standard in force. In order to make comparisons, operational parameters of the power unit (torque, effective power and specific fuel consumption) were measured with dry-medium air filter (with a new filter element) being fitted and with air filter being removed. Each point of respective characteristic curves was determined based on four measurements as their mean value. Also boost pressure, which could be of importance for results, was considered in the experiments. However, the degree of EGR valve lift, the operation of which could also appear to be important, was not taken into account. For each measuring point of respective characteristic curves, the ranges of measurement uncertainties were determined. Expanded standard uncertainties were calculated based on the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement. The experiments being carried out allowed concluding that the engine with air filter was less flexible by approx. 20% when compared to that without air filter, whereas its specific fuel consumption was greater by approx. 9%. The degree of air filter pollution affects its flow resistance and, which is related to this, engine torque and its effective power as well as its flexibility decrease but fuel consumption increases

In the paper has been presented the analysis of diagnostic utility of signals, deriving from torque (measured value is an instantaneous shaft's torsion angle, torque value is subsequently calculated basing on shaft's steel Kirhoff's modulus or Young's modulus values) and angular acceleration of the propulsion shaft. All measurements has been carried out using photo optic torque meter ETNP-10, which was installed at the propulsion shaft run by two-stroke low speed marine diesel engine. In order to distinguish diagnostic signals, measurements of healthy engine run and subsequently simulations of a failure by one cylinder cut-off (suspending of a fuel pump) were done. Analysis of torque, revolutionary speed, angular acceleration were and subsequently, in order to distinguish spectral attributes of above functions, fast Fourier transform of speed waveforms were carried out. Diagrams presented in the paper shows comparison of mentioned above signals' waveforms. The most significant influence of simulated combustion process deviation at a signal's variation was noticed when rotational speed and angular acceleration of the shaft were considered. Acquired results of research and measurements are to be a subject of further analysis in order to define representative symptoms and diagnostic values corresponding to propulsion system and engine failures.

W referacie przedstawiono wyniki badań wpływu skosu żłobków silnika asynchronicznego klatkowego na widmo momentu elektromagnetycznego. Opracowano obwodowy model silnika w osiach naturalnych. Do budowy modelu zastosowano metodę energetyczną Lagrange’a. Dokonano dyskretyzacji obwodu magnetycznego silnika na poziomie jednej cewki stojana i jednego oczka klatki wirnika. Przeprowadzono symulacje polowe dla kilku wartości skosu żłobka wirnika, przy zastosowaniu programu polowego Opera3D, celem wyznaczenia charakterystyk indukcyjności własnych i wzajemnych uzwojeń maszyny. Dokonano aproksymacji charakterystyk indukcyjności za pomocą szeregu Fouriera celem otrzymania zależności analitycznych. Przeprowadzono symulacje wybranych stanów pracy maszyny przy zasilaniu napięciem sinusoidalnym. Dokonano porównania niektórych wyników symulacji z wynikami pomiarów uzyskanymi na maszynie rzeczywistej. Przeprowadzono analizę wpływu skosu żłobków wirnika na widmo wewnętrzne momentu obrotowego. Wyniki badań wykazały, że zmienność składowych widma amplitudowego momentu nie jest proporcjonalna do zmiany skosu.
Research results of influence of the rotor slots’ skew on electromagnetic torque spectrum in a squirrel-cage motor Sg132M4-T4 are presented in the paper. For the research purposes a circuit oriented model in natural axes has been developed. In the model development the Lagrange’s energy method has been used. Lumped elements of the model refer to a single stator coil and a single squirrel-cage loop. Electromagnetic field simulations for three different rotors’ slots skews have been made using Opera 3D software. Discrete values of self and mutual inductances between lumped stator and rotor winding elements were calculated for these values of slots’ skew. In order to obtain analytic representation of these inductances, their approximation with Fourier series has been made. Several simulations of selected machine states with sinusoidal supply have been made. Simulation results versus measurement results were compared. The influence of the slots’ skew on internal spectrum of the electromagnetic torque has been investigated. Research results have shown that changes in slots’ skew influence not the same changes in particular harmonics of the electromagnetic torque spectrum.

The study examines the effect of transformation ratio in power transmission system on engine efficiency as a function of passenger vehicle velocity (m = 1400 kg) with energy-saving vehicle drive. The study also presents working range in driving phases for energy-saving speed control up to 120 km/h for a simplified overall engine performance map for SI engine. Understanding of the presented considerations can be facilitated through relating with advantages of application of non-driving phases in low engine load phases (field 4 in overall engine performance map). Working points of SI engines in engine performance maps were divided in terms of energy-saving vehicle speed control into 4 ranges. Zone l is the most economic whereas zones 3 and 4 are the least energy-saving, which was also discussed by the author in other works. The study presents the location of engine working points in overall engine performance map during energy-saving vehicle speed control within the range of 30-120 km/h using two different 6-gear gearboxes. Working range for CI engine in simplified overall characteristics in truck, the impact of speed control upon fuel consumption in real traffic conditions, sum and difference characteristics of components of drive engine unitary power, area of maximal rise in overall engine efficiency after reduction of rotational speed, simplified SI engine performance maps, covering with economic zone of working point in energy-saving drive of vehicles are presented in the paper.

The paper deals with the analysis of power loss involved in an experimental single-cylinder internal combustion engine during its operation. The experimental engine has been developed and built entirely at the University for the purposes of Shell Eco-marathon. A series of experimental measurements was taken to discover the reasons for the issues we had encountered by obtaining output power characteristics and the value of compression pressure regularly at specific intervals. The data we obtained served to diagnose faults and to propose solutions for their elimination.

Artykuł zawiera syntezę matematycznego modelu adaptacyjnego sterowania procesem blokowania przekładni hydrokinetycznej w układzie przeniesienia napędu autobusów lotniskowych. Może on być wykorzystany w sterownikach automatycznych hydromechanicznych skrzyń biegów do realizacji sterowania blokowaniem przekładni hydrokinetycznej podczas ruchu autobusu. Sterowanie adaptacyjne pozwala uwzględnić zmienność różnych czynników eksploatacyjnych takich jak: warunki drogowe, stan pracy silnika i przekładni hydrokinetycznej oraz przede wszystkim zmienność masy autobusu, co jest bardzo istotne w przypadku autobusów lotniskowych. Celem sterowania adaptacyjnego jest zwiększenie płynności jazdy autobusu a tym samym poprawa komfortu przewozu pasażerów i ich bezpieczeństwa.
The article contains a synthesis of the mathematic model of adaptive controlling of hydrokinetic torque blocking process in the power transmission system in airport buses. It can be used in automatic hydro-mechanical gearbox controllers to achieve controlling hydrokinetic torque converter by blocking, as the bus moves. Adaptive controlling allows to consider the changeability of various operating factors, such as: road conditions, engine operating conditions and hydrokinetic torque converter operating conditions, and, above all, buss weight variability, which is very significant in the case of airport buses. The aim of adaptive controlling is to increase the bus movement smoothness, and, at the same time, improvement of the passengers’ comfort and safety of transport.

Continuous monitoring of diesel engine performance under its operating is critical for prediction of malfunction development and subsequently functional failure detection. Analysis of Instantaneous Angular Speed (IAS) of the crankshaft is considered as one of non-intrusive and effective method of detection of combustion quality deterioration. The article contains presentation of attempt of monitoring of piston engine’s crankshaft torsional vibrations by measurement of Instantaneous Angular Speed at free, and power output ends of the engine’s crankshaft. The angular speed measurements was done using two optical sensors for reading the IAS, mounted at shaft line’s opposite ends, one at free end of the crankshaft and second at end of generator’s shaft. In the article is presented description of the measurement system and explanation of its mode of work. Experiments were based at two kinds of malfunction possible to be simulated at test bed. First one was simulation of a leak of fuel injection pump, the second one relayed on mounting of sets of injection valves with different nozzles characteristics (spraying nozzle angle), giving different parameters of fuel injection. Presented results of experiment derives from test cycle carried out using laboratory stand of Gdynia Maritime University equipped with 3- cylinder self − ignition engine, powering electric generator.

To initiate its combustion cycles, internal combustion engines require a minimum rotational speed that can be given from several sources (muscular, electrical, pneumatic, among others). Advantages of initiating an ICE with an AC electrical machine is that it can integrate starter motor and generator in one device, provide a linear ramp of acceleration when starting, and assist the ICE in torque production. This article illustrates considerations for the design of a starting system with an AC electrical machine. Initially, criteria of torque, rotational speed and power requirements are analysed, considering resistances of compression, friction, and inertia of the slider-crank mechanism, as well as accessories, with a preliminary experimental validation. Also, types of three-phase AC electrical machines are put to comparison, as well as their associated electronic components needed for driving them in each case, concluding that AC induction machines require a complex 4-quadrant inverter. PM synchronous machines require a simpler inverter, but with highly specified power electronics components. The classical wound rotor machine requires the simplest inverter, with unidirectional power flow, less power transfer losses and less critical power electronics components. Finally, considerations for using of a battery assisted with supercapacitor as complementary DC power source are made.

In the paper it has been presented model of power train system for vehicle with diesel engine and automatic gearbox with hydraulic converter. Simulation model has been realised in MatLab Simulink R2009a programme. There has been presented its main subsystems and control system conception that have deciding influence on the driving system operation. In the proposed simulation model position of accelerating pedal is interpreted as the information according driver will of the assumed vehicle speed and way of its realisation (dynamic, economic drive), that is selection of the drive strategy. Existing ecological requirements it is the EURO 3,4,5 standards requires that proper strategies were realised ecologically. The decision of selecting the gear ratio and engine is undertaken in the master controller, beyond the driver, finally enabling the economic and ecological or dynamic operation of the total powertrain. In the final part of the paper there have been analysed results of simulation tests.
W pracy zaprezentowano model układu napędowego pojazdu z silnikiem o ZS i przekładnią automatyczną wyposażoną w przekładnię hydrokinetyczną. Model symulacyjny wykonany został przy użyciu programu MatLab Simulink R2009a. Przedstawiono jego główne podsystemy oraz koncepcję układu sterowania mające decydujący wpływ na prace układu napędowego. W zaproponowanym modelu symulacyjnym położenie pedału przyśpieszenia jest informacją o woli kierowcy, o zadanej prędkości pojazdu i sposobie jej osiągnięcia (jazda dynamiczna, ekonomiczna), czyli wyborze strategii jazdy. Obecne uwarunkowania ekologiczne tj. normy EURO 3,4,5, wymagają by odpowiadające im strategie jazdy były realizowane ekologiczne. Decyzja o wyborze przełożenia i stopniu obciążenia silnika jest podejmowana w sterowniku nadrzędnym, poza kierowcą, pozwalając ostatecznie na ekonomiczną, ekologiczną lub dynamiczną prace całego układu napędowego. W końcowej części pracy zostały poddane analizie wyniki badań symulacyjnych.

The paper presents the methodology for designing the injection shaft drive for diesel engines with 2,3,4,6 and 8 cylinders as well as power from 2.5 to 52 kW per cylinder using the FEM method and experimental research. The pump is the original solution of the authors. The shaft is a basic part of the pump with a complex structure. In order to assess the state of stress in the shaft, the FEM analytical method was used and experimental tests were carried out, subjecting the shaft to torsional moment resulting from the transmitted power. Experimental studies confirmed the results of numerical calculations and the correctness of the adopted solution. The destructive tests were carried out to assess the maximum load capacity of the shaft, loading it with an increasing torque until visible plastic deformations occurred. This condition appeared at twice the moment (Ms = 602 Nm) in relation to the maximum predicted moment in operation (extreme operating conditions of the pump shaft). The theoretical studies confirmed very significant stress concentration (αk coefficient at the level of 2.63 or even 4.7), which may be the cause of fatigue cracks. It also determines the strength of the shaft and its torsional stiffness, which influences the proper functioning of the pump and ensures adequate fuel injection phases.

In this paper four processing methods of cyclic data runs, namely : Fourier interpolation and transformation, least-squares approximation by means of trigonometric polynomials , synchronous averaging and movable approximation , were presented by using, as an example, discretely measured runs of torque and angular speed. It was demonstrated that for extracting a useful signal out of disturbance background and decomposing the disturbances the appropriate methods are the synchronous averaging and multiple movable approximation. To emerge significant spectral lines from a spectrum the least-squares approximation by using trigonometric polynomials can be applied. The method contains a criterion for signal filtration and is insensitive to disturbances, run truncation and sampling irregularity. Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) may have an auxiliary significance for preliminary spectral analysis. Its main disadvantage is that in order to build a smoothing-out filter its parameters should be determined in advance, e.g. by applying one of the remaining methods.
