    The aim of this study was to verify the effectiveness of the self-determination theory (SDT) in mathematics teaching methodology. In the experimental group, 62 fifth-graders had 10 months of maths lessons according to an original programme that prioritises three needs: autonomy, competence and relatedness. The following research questions were formulated: How did students’ attitudes towards mathematics change under the influence of methodological interventions aimed at satisfying the three SDT needs? Did the methodological solutions contribute to better emotional/social competences in the students? Did the intervention result in higher maths achievement, measured by a maths knowledge and skills test and grades in the subject? The findings included statistically significant differences in 1) positive attitude towards mathematics (measured by the semantic differential technique), 2) emotional/social competences (measured by the KA scale from the tool called TROS-KA) and 3) mathematical achievements (measured by a maths test and grades in school) in comparison to the control group (N = 59), where less positive attitudes towards mathematics, lower maths grades and no significant increase in emotional/social competences were observed.

    Introduction. The article highlights the need to shape students’ socio-emotional skills and recognizes kindness as the foundation necessary to build these competencies. A questionnaire may be used to recognize the involvement of the school community in the formation of benevolent attitudes and produce the School Kindness Scale (Binfet, Gadermann, & Schonert-Reichl, 2016). Aim. The main aim of the article is to present the results of preliminary research for the Polish adaptation and validation of the School Kindness Scale questionnaire. Methods. The study was conducted in May 2021 on a sample of students (N=166 individuals, aged 14 to 21 years (mean age was M=17.260, SD=2.06) in the final grades of elementary and secondary schools. It was part of a larger research project carried out by the Department of Education of the City of Poznań. The data obtained were used to analyse the reliability of the Polish translation of the School Kindness Scale. The tool tested consists of 5 statements evaluated using the Likert scale. As part of the study on the reliability of the Scale, similar to analyses carried out in other countries, the mean scores obtained for each item were reviewed and Cronbach’s Alpha analysis was conducted. A scree plot for the scale was also prepared. Results. The value of Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient turned out to be α=0.792, which should be considered as a result indicating the satisfactory reliability of the Polish version of the School Kindness Scale. Conducting more advanced statistical analyses requires collecting a larger research sample and comparing the results obtained from the School Kindness Scale with the results of other Polish language questionnaires testing constructs similar to kindness.
    Wprowadzenie. W artykule zwrócono uwagę na potrzebę kształtowania kompetencji społeczno-emocjonalnych uczniów, traktując życzliwość jako fundament niezbędny do budowy owych umiejętności. Narzędziem służącym rozpoznaniu zaangażowania środowiska szkolnego w formowanie życzliwych postaw jest Szkolna Skala Życzliwości (Binfet, Gadermann, & Schonert-Reichl, 2016). Cel. Zasadniczym celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wyników wstępnych badań służących polskiej adaptacji i walidacji kwestionariusza Szkolnej Skali Życzliwości. Materiały i metody. Badanie przeprowadzono w maju 2021, na próbie uczniów ostatnich klas szkół podstawowych oraz ponadpodstawowych (N=166 osób w wieku od 14 do 21 lat (średnia wieku M=17,260, SD=2,06). Stanowiło ono część większego projektu badawczego realizowanego przez Wydział Oświaty Miasta Poznania. Uzyskane dane posłużyły analizie rzetelności polskiego tłumaczenia Szkolnej Skali Życzliwości [School Kindness Scale]. Testowane narzędzie składa się z 5 twierdzeń ocenianych przy użyciu skali Likerta. W ramach badania rzetelności Skali, podobnie jak w przypadku analiz prowadzonych w innych krajach, sprawdzono średnie wyniki uzyskane dla poszczególnych itemów oraz przeprowadzono analizę metodą Alfa Cronbacha. Wykonano również wykres osypiska dla skali. Wyniki. Uzyskana wartość współczynnika Alfa Cronbacha to α=0,792, co należy uznać za wynik wskazujący na zadowalającą rzetelność polskiej wersji Szkolnej Skali Życzliwości. Przeprowadzenie bardziej zaawansowanych analiz statystycznych wymaga zgromadzenia większej próby badawczej oraz porównania wyników uzyskanych w ramach badania Szkolną Skali Życzliwości z wynikami innych polskojęzycznych kwestionariuszy testujących zbliżone do życzliwości konstrukty.

    The aim of the article is to define the psychological meaning of the parental attitude in the process of child development at the age of five and six, in particular, in emotional and social development. The most important aspects of the emotional and social development of preschool children have been characterized under the framework of the conducted research as well as the relationship between overprotective and inconsistent parenting.

    Introduction. Medical care in geriatrics has its own specificity, and in order to build a successful doctor-patient relationship it is important while studying medicine to learn some functioning aspects of this age group. Objective. The aim of this study is to explore and describe the role of emotional intelligence in the attitudes of medical students towards elderly patients, taking into account their the place of residence. The place of residence has an impact on social relations and socialization, which could effect with disparities in behaviour towards elderly patients. Materials and method. Medical University of Lublin students from rural (N=71; M=23.44 SD=1.80) and urban (N=87; M=23.34; SD=1.38) areas took part in the study. Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (INTE) and Attitude Towards Elderly Patients Questionnaire (ATEP) were used. Results. There are statistically significant differences between medical students from rural and urban areas in their attitude towards elderly patients (p=0.001), but no differences were observed between rural and urban residents in terms of emotional intelligence (general result, action factor and cognitive factor). Positive correlations were observed between action factor (r=0.322), cognitive factor (r=0.311) and general INTE result (r=0.358) and attitude towards elderly patients in the group of medical students from rural area. Conclusions. Medical students from rural areas are characterized by a more positive attitude towards elderly patients than medical students from urban areas. The predictors of attitudes towards elderly patients are the cognitive factor of emotional intelligence and the place of residence of medical students. The results give the opportunity to design a well-developed programme of a geriatric course which could be matched to the personal predispositions of students.

    Presented article is aimed at examining the emotional attitudes to candidates for the president of Poland among pro-systemic and anti-systemic voters in 2015 presidential election and showing the influence of campaign TV ads on these groups of Polish electorate. The research conducted by author reveals that anti-systemic electorate is less interested in politics and more likely to be influenced by electoral TV spots. The study also confirms the relation between emotional attitudes to political actors and political preferences. According to the results of experiment anti-systemic voters expressed more positive feelings towards candidates from out of the political mainstream, and the other way round, the pro-systemic electorate rather liked the candidates presented by parliamentary parties.

    Drawing on the model of Grandey (2000), it was proposed that the attitude towards occupation could buffer the negative effects of emotional labour. A total of 173 teachers participated in the study. Attitudes towards occupation, surface acting, emotional exhaustion and job satisfaction were estimated. The indirect measure of the attitude towards occupation was assessed using the Approaching-Avoidance Simulation Method. Confi rmatory Factor Analysis proved the validity and reliability of the indirect measurement, which is based on uncontrolled reactions of the respondents towards stimuli representing the profession. The results revealed a positive correlation between attitudes towards occupation and indicators of employees’ well-being. The indirect measure of attitude towards occupation turned out to be a signifi cant moderator of the relationship between surface acting and job satisfaction. The results raise interesting questions about the connection between indirect measures of attitudes towards occupation and employee well-being.
