Opis:
Maritime shipping is a key component of the global economy, representing 80–90% of international trade. To deal with the energy crisis and marine environmental pollution, hydrogen-natural gas-diesel tri-fuel engines have become an attractive option for use in the maritime industry. In this study, numerical simulations and experimental tests were used to evaluate the effects of different hydrogen ratios on the combustion and emissions from these engines. The results show that, in terms of combustion performance, as the hydrogen proportion increases, the combustion ignition delay time in the cylinder decreases and the laminar flame speed increases. The pressure and temperature in the cylinder increase and the temperature field distribution expands more rapidly with a higher hydrogen ratio. This means that the tri-fuel engine (H2 +CH4 +Diesel) has a faster response and better power performance than the dual-fuel engine (CH4 +Diesel). In terms of emission performance, as the hydrogen proportion increases, the NO emissions increase, and CO and CO2 emissions decrease. If factors such as methane escape into the atmosphere from the engine are considered, the contribution of marine tri-fuel engines to reducing ship exhaust emissions will be even more significant. Therefore, this study shows that marine hydrogen-natural gas-diesel tri-fuel engines have significant application and research prospects.

Opis:
In order to explore the potential application of oxygenated fuels, polyoxymethylene dimethyl ethers (PODE), as an alternative fuel for marine diesel engines, the fuel combustion performance and gas emission characteristics of pure diesel oil, diesel-blended PODE, and pure PODE were tested on a marine diesel engine under different running conditions. The experimental results indicate that oxygen consumption can be reduced by diesel-blended PODE and pure PODE. The in-cylinder pressure and exothermic curve were consistent with the trend of diesel oil. Also, the ignition delay of diesel-blended PODE and pure PODE decreased, and the diffusion rate was accelerated, which helped to improve the combustion performance of diesel engines. Diesel blended PODE and pure PODE reduced the particulate matter (PM) emissions by up to 56.9% and 86.8%, respectively, and CO emissions by up to 51.1% and 56.3%, respectively. NOx emissions were gradually decreased with engine load. CO2 emissions were slightly increased, and the effective fuel consumption was increased up to 48% and 132%, respectively. It was shown that PODE could provide comparable power in a marine diesel engine and improve the fuel combustion and gas emission of the engine as a clean alternative fuel for marine diesel engines.

Opis:
This paper presents the experimental results of a spark ignition engine to evaluate its performance and emissions characteristics while using conventional fuel and alternative fuel; compressed natural gas (CNG). To evaluate the performance, the engine is operated between 1500-4000 rpm, under steady state condition with wide open throttle (WOT). The emissions test was performed with various constant loads at each speed. The first experiment is did by using conventional fuel and followed by CNG. The engine performance and emissions results such as brake power, brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC), CO, HC and NOx from CNG were measured and compared to conventional fuel. The experiment has performed at Automotive Laboratory Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University Malaysia Pahang by using in-housed developed engine test rig. From the experiment being done it is demonstrated that the potential of reducing emissions while applying CNG as fuel is obvious. However, the further study of required improving the performance of the engine. The results and analysis will be useful for the development of dedicated CNG engine in the future. The application of CNG as fuel for spark ignition engine gives the average reduction power of 25% at WOT, 45% at POT and gives the average brake power reduction of 37% at WOT and 56% at POT base from spark ignition engine. Average BSFC of CNG are near about 33% higher than gasoline for WOT and 39% higher than gasoline for POT. The average CO emission reduction is reduction is 66% at WOT and 64% at POT. The average reduction of CO2 emission at WOT while using CNG is 6% and at POT only 1%. The average reduction of HC emission at WOT is 76% and at POT is 74%. The average reduction of NOx emission at WOT is 15% and at POT is 18%. The disadvantages of CNG as fuel in spark ignition engine has reduced power 37-56%, but the advantages for environment protection CNG as fuel has reduced the exhaust gas emissions.

Due to limited resources and hazardous effects on environment people now a day tries to find out an alternative for fossil fuels. Fossil fuels when burnt produce a lot of carbon dioxide which is one of the primary reasons for global warming. Petroleum is a form of fossil fuel. With the help of distillation process petrol, paraffin, kerosene and diesel oil can obtain from natural petroleum. To protect the environment biodiesels can substitute these fossil fuels. Biodiesels can use as an alternative for diesel. Researchers from around the world tried for many years to find a suitable biodiesel which can substitute diesel. Many biodiesels have been produced from different sources and tested for their performances. Some researchers try to find out a good combination of biodiesel blends which can be used as an alternative of diesel. Some of them try to find out a suitable blend of diesel and biodiesel to reduce the environmental impact and for better emission characteristics. Effects of blending different types of biodiesels with diesel have been investigated by many researchers. In this present review article a summary is written on such attempts.

The internal combustion engine plays a vital role in transportation, industry, and shipping. However, diesel as one of the main fuels for internal combustion engines, caused many environmental and human health problems. In order to solve the problems, more researchers have been committed to the research of alternative fuels. Biodiesel is a renewable, sustainable alternative fuel, and its characteristics are similar to traditional diesel. It can be mixed with pure diesel. It has been found that a mix with pure diesel in a certain ratio can effectively reduce the negative effects caused by its characteristics, improve the combustion performance, and reduce the NOx and PM emissions. This article mainly reviews the effects of the mixture of biodiesel and diesel on engine combustion characteristics and exhaust emissions, including three parts: part (1) summarizes and analyzes the biodiesel’s production and characteristics, part (2) analyzes the engine’s performance under different working conditions, and part (3) studies and analyzes the exhaust emission under different working conditions.

The paper presents the results of energy and environmental evaluation of geothermal CHP plant. The variant of CHP plant based on Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) has been taken into consideration as the most favorable for the geothermal conditions prevailing in Poland. The existing geothermal well located in the city of Konin in Greater Poland (Wielkopolska) voivodship has been chosen as the case study. The conceptual design of CHP plant has been proposed and evaluated from energy and environmental point of view. The non-renewable primary energy consumption has been chosen as energy performance criterion. In the case of environmental performance carbon dioxide emission has been taken as evaluation criterion. The analysis has been performed for different operating conditions and three working fluids. The best energy performance can be spotted for working fluid R123, for which the reduction varies between 15200 and 11900 MWh/a. The working fluid R134a has a worse energy performance, which allows for the reduction of fossil fuels energy consumption in the range of 15000 and 11700 MWh/a. The total reduction of CO2 emission is the highest for working fluid R123: 5300 to 4150 MgCO2/a, the medium one for working fluid R134a: 5200 to 4100 MgCO2/a and the lowest for working fluid R227: 5000 to 4050 MgCO2/a. It has been shown that the construction of geothermal CHP plants based on Organic Rankine Cycle can be reasonable solution in Polish conditions. It is important concerning the need of reduction of fossil fuels primary energy consumption and carbon dioxide emission.

Extensive research is being conducted to create and use a wide range of alternative fuels to accommodate the world's growing energy needs. The objective of this experimental investigation was to analyze the effects of Karanja biodiesel blends on the performance, combustion, and emission characteristics of a compression ignition (CI) engine vis-a-vis neat diesel. Important physical parameters of Karanja oil were examined experimentally after transesterification and determined to be within acceptable limits. BTE of Karanja biodiesel blends was about 3-8% lower than diesel. For Karanja biodiesel blends, BSFC was about 2-9% higher than diesel but exhaust gas temperature and volumetric efficiency were lower. Emissions characteristics such as nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, and carbon monoxide were also analyzed for various tested fuels. Karanja biodiesel blends resulted in lesser CO and HC formation. Nonetheless, NOx emissions were around 10% greater than diesel. Peak cylinder pressure, heat release rate, and maximum rate of pressure rise versus crank angle were among the combustion characteristics parameters considered in this study. Combustion analysis revealed that for Karanja biodiesel blends heat release rate and peak cylinder pressure were lower than for neat diesel. Findings indicate that Karanja biodiesel can be considered a viable diesel engine fuel.

Opis:
Currently, the world is facing problems regarding environmental pollution due to the combustion of fossil fuels. Generally, the combustion of fossil fuels takes place in the Internal Combustion engine for power or electricity generation. The combustion of fossil fuels emits greenhouse gases that lead to the greenhouse effect. The main symptom of the greenhouse effect is increased earth surface temperature. Also, the resources of fossil fuels are depleting rapidly and can take thousands of years to reproduce, so the time has come to go for lesser polluting renewable fuels. In this research, Bio-CNG is considered as an alternative fuel to conventional fuel, i.e. Diesel. The performance test on four-stroke IC Engines working on Bio-CNG and Diesel fuel is conducted simultaneously. The performance parameters such as Brake Power, Indicated Power, Thermal Efficiencies, Mechanical, Volumetric efficiency for both fuels are compared. Along with the performance, the emission is also recorded and compared. The results have shown that Bio-CNG has slightly less performance ability for similar engines working on Diesel fuel. Yet, this study also shows that Bio-CNG possesses the ability to replace the conventional fuel with some engine and exhaust system modifications. The higher calorific value (47000 kJ/kg) and lower or negligible carbon emission make it the best sustainable fuel substitute to conventional fuel, i.e. Diesel.

Opis:
W pracy podjęto próbę prognozowania emisyjności CO2 przez zestaw maszyn koparka i samochód samowyładowczy. Emisyjność dwutlenku węgla maszyn do wykonania określonego zadania roboczego zależy od wydajności maszyn. W etapie pierwszym pracy prognozowano wydajność koparek. Zebrano dane techniczne i organizacyjne mające hipotetyczny wpływ na wydajność koparek takie jak: pojemność łyżki, rodzaj narzędzia roboczego, kategorię gruntu, ładowność środka transportowego, rodzaj drogi dojazdowej, lata pracy operatora, wilgotność gruntu, odległość wywozu gruntu, temperatura powietrza, awaryjność. Zakodowano zmienne lingwistyczne, przekształcono dane tak by uzyskać najlepsze wyniki. Prognozowano wydajność koparek. Wykorzystano metodę prognozowania regresji wielorakiej. Przeprowadzono analizę autokorelacji i autokorelacji cząstkowej reszt oraz analizę wrażliwości. Obliczono błędy MAPE prognoz. Na podstawie otrzymanego modelu prognostycznego wykonano przykład obliczeniowy doboru maszyn w aspekcie emisyjności dwutlenku węgla. Sformułowano wzór obliczeniowy do kwantyfikacji liczby kilogramów dwutlenku węgla powstającego w czasie wykonywania robót ziemnych. Z przeprowadzonych analiz wynika, że kryterium minimalizacji emisji dwutlenku węgla jest wprost proporcjonalne do pojemności łyżki koparki i ładowności środka transportowego.
The article predicted CO2 emission by a set of machines: excavator and dump trucks. The emissivity of carbon dioxide during the execution of a specific work task depends on the performance of the machines. In the first stage, work performance of excavators was projected. The following technical and organisational data having a hypothetical influence on the performance of excavators were collected: bucket capacity, type of working tool, category of land, load capacity of a mean of transport, type of access road, work experience of an operator, humidity of the soil, distance of the soil disposal, air temperature, failure frequency. The linguistic variables were coded, the data was transformed in a way that ensures that the best results were obtained. The method of multiple regression were used for forecasting. Analysis of the autocorrelation and partial autocorrelation residues and sensitivity analysis was done. MAPE errors forecasts were calculated. On the basis of a predictive model, an example of calculation of selection of machines in terms of carbon dioxide emission was made. The calculation formula to quantify the number of kilograms of carbon dioxide produced during earthworks was formulated. Analyses showed that the criterion of minimizing carbon dioxide emissions are directly proportional to the excavator’s bucket capacity and capacity of means of transport.

Opis:
The paper contains an analysis of a multi-flat building located in Lębork. The calculations made for the existing building as required to issue an energy performance certificate demonstrated its high energy consumption. Renovation of the thermal insulation of the building was simulated, including all partitions enclosing rooms with regulated temperature, independent from the outdoor environment, and other unheated rooms. The effect of the thermal insulation renovation on the Primary Energy Factor and the Air Pollutant Emission Factor was tested. It was proven that the analyzed refurbishment of thermal insulation was insufficient to fulfill the reference value of primary non-renewable energy input, which would ensure considerable savings on costs (amounts of fuels) of heating.
