Aim/purpose – The aim of the paper is to introduce a concept for measuring effectiveness of communication in project teams, taking into account 19 effectiveness aspects which enables to evaluate individual communication effectiveness of each team member, the overall communication effectiveness of a team or organization and to compare teams or organizations for communication effectiveness. The results of a small scale study serve as a proof of the proposed concept comprising the questionnaire and the way of presenting its results. Design/methodology/approach – First, a list of communication effectiveness aspects is proposed, based on a literature review. They are additionally grouped into aspects dependent on the sender, the recipient, and both. On the basis of the identified communication effectiveness aspects a questionnaire for measuring the level of communication effectiveness is prepared and the way of presenting its results is demonstrated on a small scale research sample. The case study is used to validate the presented concept. Findings – The developed questionnaire, based on the identified communication effectiveness aspects, together with the proposed form of presenting its results can be successfully applied to evaluate individual communication effectiveness of specific team members, the overall communication effectiveness of a team or organization and to compare teams or organizations for communication effectiveness. Research implications/limitations – The presented concept enables a graphically enriched assessment of communication effectiveness of individual team members, whole teams or organizations and also brings to the attention of the respondents the various aspects which influence communication effectiveness. It should be, however, noted that the results of the questionnaire base on the declarations of the respondents, which makes them subjective. Originality/value/contribution – The proposed concept of measuring communication effectiveness can be used as a tool for enhancing the communication effectiveness in project teams where some flaws or infirmities are observed. It constitutes a comprehensive way of tackling this problem by addressing an extensive list of communication effectiveness aspects and provides clear and meaningful tools of presenting the results.

Teachers’ beliefs concerning the possibility of modeling pupils’ moral characterThe main aim of the present investigation is to gain knowledge about teachers’ beliefs concerning the possibility of modeling pupils’ moral character. The main components in the process of moral education are a teacher’s personality, awareness of their role in education, their skills and competencies and belief in the possibility of infl uencing their pupils. In view of these facts it has been agreed that there should be conducted a study to examine how teachers assess their own abilities and skills in modeling their pupils’ character, and how they see teachers’ overall possibilities in this area. The research used a questionnaire “Character Education Effi cacy Belief Instrument” developed by Milson and Mehlig (2002). This tool measures teachers’ beliefs concerning their effectiveness of modeling pupils’ moral character. There are two scales used in this measurement. The first scale allows to assess teachers’ personal effectiveness of teaching (personal teaching efficacy – PTE) and the second one allows to assess general effectiveness of teaching (general teaching efficacy – GTE). There were 218 people involved in the research (83% were women, and 17% men). The results show a signifi cant difference between the assessment of personal teaching effectiveness (PTE) and general teaching effectiveness (GTE). Respondents (teachers) evaluate their own abilities in modeling their pupils’ moral characters higher than the general ability of teachers in this respect. Three factors were taken into account in the analysis: teacher’s gender, type of school where the respondents work and subjects they teach.

Public relations effectiveness measurement is becoming more and more important in realization of public relations activities in Poland. It has been caused by the demand from people ordering such services to achieve measurable results and simultaneous increasing usage of research in public relations, which is related to growing ‘scientification’ of this field of knowledge. Basic requirement, which should be met to measure PR effectiveness, is such planning these activities to have measureable objectives and choosing the indicators and research methods for particular PR tools. It is worth remembering that some difficulties in measurement may occur – knowing them allows to minimize inadequate measurement results. Measuring PR effectiveness allows to continue the most efficient PR activities, resign from the less effective ones and also to search new ideas how to communicate with the target groups.

In the present study showing the effectiveness of the regenerator with a stationary filling are based on a theoretical model of efficiency, determined on the basis of measurements of operating parameters of regenerators working in Biaglass glassworks in Białystok. The scope of work includes filling characteristics of regenerators, a methodology based on determining the efficiency of a theoretical model, experimental determination of the effectiveness of regenerators and to compare the results of calculations and measurement.

In a broad sense, social media are an Internet service that is intended to disseminate certain information created by users, whereas any consumer of the service may be the author of such information. The emergence and rapid development of social media is due to the fact that the modern consumer is gradually losing confidence in traditional media and is ignoring them. Social media, as a new space for consumers, have their own features that differentiate them from the rest of the media, and accordingly their methods of work are also different from traditional ones. This work is a continuation of the article (Biernacki, Czesak 2013), which examined the most recent results (2012) of the Program for International Student Assessment. It turned out that Polish students have significantly improved their results in general subjects, but have great difficulties with creative thinking (the results are below the median). Analysis of the results of examinations in mathematics for students of the first year of two departments confirmed that students have great difficulty with problem solving. The author proposes to encourage students through the use of exercises and labs to take more time to solve tasks that require creative thinking, especially those relating to real-world problems of physics and economics.

The aim of the hereby article is to point at the inconsistency in building employee’s engagement in the context of work effectiveness. An analysis of engagement and work effectiveness notion and published research results pertaining to both questions were conducted. The article was based on a secondary datum and a desk research method was used. The object of analysis was defining why an increasing pressure on engagement does not lead to an increase of work effectiveness. The conclusions show firstly that an increase of engagement involves a biological and psychical cost increase – an employee works longer and with a bigger passion that can result in both an equal burnout and a lower performance. Secondly, engagement is hardly measurable and it is problematic to be controlled in order to achieve the very measurable work results.

Otoczenie każdej instytucji i każdego przedsiębiorstwa – zewnętrzne i wewnętrzne – oddziałuje na skuteczność w sposób ciągły. Zmieniająca się gospodarka, a tym samym otoczenie musi być impulsem do korekt strategii i planów działania organizacji. Posiadająca wiele definicji skuteczność jest kluczowym elementem organizacji działającej zarówno w strefie publicznej, jaki i prywatnej. Miara skuteczności wpływa na wizerunek, wyniki finansowe oraz na stabilny rozwój. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie zależności pomiędzy otoczeniem organizacji a skutecznością. Pierwszy rozdział traktuje o ogólnej charakterystyce otoczenia i pokazuje wpływ na organizację poprzez czynniki składowe, a także może być źródłem ryzyka. Drugi i trzeci rozdział opisuje otoczenia: zewnętrzne i wewnętrzne. Następuje próba skonfrontowania definicji i cech, które podnoszą lub obniżają zdolność organizacji do osiągania celu, a tym samym do określenia jej jako skutecznej. Czwarty rozdział to poszukiwanie odpowiedzi na pytanie, jakie elementy otoczenia stanowią wsparcie dla organizacji. Okazuje się, że otoczenie może pozytywnie wpływać na skuteczność organizacji przy zachowaniu skutecznego przywództwa i procesowym wdrażaniu założonych wcześniej celów oraz poprzez jego stałe monitorowanie. To monitorowanie ma być podstawą do wprowadzania potencjalnych zmian i korekt. Wniosek rozważań jest następujący: skuteczność jest miarą zarządzania i określa, czy organizacja jest odpowiednio przygotowana, odpowiednio działająca i odpowiednio zarządzana pod wpływem impulsów z otoczenia. Brak ich wychwycenia i właściwej reakcji tę skuteczność może zahamować.
The environment of every institution and enterprise – external and internal – affects effectiveness on a continuous basis. The changing economy, and thus the environment, must be the impetus for adjustments to an organization’s strategy and action plans. Having many definitions, effectiveness is a key element of an organization operating in both the public and private spheres. Measures of effectiveness affect the image, financial performance, and stable development of an organization. The aim of this article is to show the link between an organization’s environment and effectiveness. The first chapter deals with the general characteristics of the environment and shows the impact on an organization through component factors that can also be a source of risk. The second and third chapters describe environments: external and internal. An attempt is made to confront the definitions and features that raise or lower an organization’s ability to achieve goals, and thus its effectiveness. The next, fourth chapter is the search for answers to what elements of the environment support an organization. It turns out that the environment can have a positive impact on the effectiveness of an organization while maintaining effective leadership and process implementation of previously established goals and through its constant monitoring. This monitoring is to be the basis for introducing potential changes and corrections. The conclusion reports that effectiveness is a measure of management and determines whether the organization is properly prepared, properly operating and properly managed under the influence of impulses from the environment. If they are not detected and reacted to appropriately, effectiveness may be inhibited.

Przedmiotem opracowania jest zbadanie skuteczności wentylacji mechanicznej w pomieszczeniu rentgena. Pomieszczenie rentgena znajduje się na pierwszym piętrze szpitala w mieście powiatowym. Jest ono świeżo wyremontowane z nowoczesną, niedawno zakupioną aparaturą rentgenowską i z zainstalowaną nową instalacją wentylacyjną. Układy wentylacyjne są układami autonomicznymi. Strumień odciąganego powietrza powinien wynosić 1,5 h-1krotności wykonano pomiary i obliczenia i wykazano, Se obecnie jest zapewnionych 1,34 h-1. Strumień powietrza nawiewanego jest mniejszy niż strumień powietrza usuwanego i wynosi 0,77 h-1. Wentylacja mechaniczna zainstalowana w pomieszczeniu gabinetu rentgenowskiego obecnie nie spełnia stawianych jej wymagań.
This study seeks to examine the effectiveness of mechanical ventilation systems in an X-ray room. The X-ray room is situated on the first floor of a hospital in a county town. The facilities have recently undergone thorough renovation and the room was equipped with a modern X-ray apparatus. Also, a new ventilation system was installed. Both ventilation systems work independently. Supply and exhaust grilles are fitted into brick ducts. The air exchange rate for the exhausted air should amount to 1.5 h-1, yet upon examination it turned out that the actual value was 1.34 h-1. The incoming airflow is smaller than the amount of air drawn out of the room and amounts to 0.77 h-1. The mechanical ventilation systems do not meet the required standards.

Public sector has been appointed to carry out tasks of general interest. These tasks are usually non-profit, which causes that they are financed from public funds. In such circumstances, the important point is that the choice of tasks for execution was made rationally and after carrying out a multifaceted analysis. Measurement issues of efficiency gain particular importance in the management of both municipal finance, as well as the whole of the public sector in connection with the implementation of the new public management concept. The evaluation of the financial management is difficult. It requires taking into account many different variables. The selected set of characteristics that describe the financial economy, should, as far as possible, in a full and comprehensive way study the phenomenon. The purpose of the study is to examine whether the assessment of the effectiveness of the financial activities of local government can be used as a synthetic indicator, whose structure depends on the adopted methodological assumptions. The selection of the final variables to the structure of the synthetic indicator includes variables describing the financial economy. The final set of diagnostic variables was created taking into account the established substantive, formal and statistical criteria. The characteristics of spatial units is based on the arithmetic mean, standard deviation, coefficient of variation, the asymmetry factor and the correlation coefficient. Taking into account formal conditions, complete and available measurable variables were selected Linear ordering methods allow to determine the hierarchy of objects or arranging them from the object being the highest in this hierarchy to the object being the lowest. Linear ordering enables multi-dimensional analysis of the phenomenon. Synthetic indicator gauge takes values in the range [0; 1], the higher the value of this index the better situations of the object. Rural communes of Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship are the subject of the research. Synthetic indicator structure consisted of the following variables: value of own income, value of the revenue from tax return, value of the revenue from CIT, value of tax revenues, value of funds obtained from external sources, value of current expenditure, value of property, value of expenditure on welfare spending and value of expenditure on public administration. Communities of Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship continued to show a large variety in terms of the level of financial health. On the one hand, it was possible to distinguish a group of communities with high level of financial health, on the other hand, the communities with a very low rate.
