Opis:
Effective mathematics education of the visually impaired people and full accomplishment of the core curricular of this course is challenging, especially due to the current obligation of passing mathematics on a school-leaving examination. The transfer of knowledge in this field is primarily based on visual and spatial communication, which is a major barrier in the process of teaching/learning of the blind and visually impaired pupils. Research presented in this article was conducted in order to collect the specifics of teaching mathematics in Polish schools attended by visually disabled students as well as the opinions of teachers, students and their parents regarding their needs in this respect. The results confirmed the lack of friendly technologies tailored to identified needs, supporting the teaching process, including effective communication between the teacher (parent) and a student in the class (at home). Respondents' answers showed a high level of informatic culture - all use the computer, and 71% of teachers and 64% of students use it on daily basis. 90% of teachers were interested in learning about new technologies that are useful in teaching mathematics, and 79% of the students would like to use a computer, tablet or any other device to learn mathematics if properly adapted. This is a friendly environment for the development of the new assistive technologies in the field of mathematics education. One of them is an innovative educational platform PlatMat whose functional adaptation to the needs of users was obtained, among others, based on the results of this research.

Opis:
One of the important factors determining the public activity of the Galician Ruthenians (Ukrainians) after 1848 was the realization of the idea of educating the people. In the 1850-1860’s exclusively intellectuals were engaged in educational work; peasants and burghers were only recipients. At the time, the main attention was paid to the publication of educational literature for elementary schools and gymnasiums, as well as scientific, popular and religious lectures for intellectuals and common people. This was done by both private publishers and specially created non-gov0ernmental organizations such as the Russophile society Halytsko-Ruska Matytsia (since 1848) and the Ukrainophile society Prosvita (since 1868). Among the editions of Matytsia prevailing publications for the intelligentsia, Prosvita began its publishing activity mainly from small books for the common people.

In the period of the second half of the 20th century we can observe the growing interest of local churches in conducting their teaching in a modern form of Catechism for adult people. The subject of this article is the idea of modern Catechism in practical life of the Lutheran Church and its realization in some contexts. The first and still most important book in this line is the German Evangelischer Erwachsenenkatechismus. Kursbuch des Glaubens (EEK), first edition in 1975. The monumental work (exactly 1356 pages) was an effect of cooperation of several theologian and religious pedagogues and it was done of the will of Federation of German Lutheran Churches (VELKD) after 6 years of activity. In the year 2010 the 8th renewed edition of this monumental opus was published. The catechism was translated in many languages throughout the world. This work could be a proper pattern for the Polish original edition that is very expected in the community of the Lutheran Church in Poland. The article also discusses some other concepts of the adult catechism within the German context (for example some “small or compact cate-chisms”) as well as the Roman Catholic Catechism of 1992. The latter is one of the most important theological work of the end of the 20th century being much more precise than the German EEK. The most important postulate of this paper is to show the lack of such work in the Polish context and to appeal to the Polish Lutheran Synod to start working on the edition of the Polish Lutheran Catechism for Adults.

Opis:
The article discusses the adult and old people learning opportunities for Lithuania. Adult education is one of the most important factors that determine both the development of the society and the human achievements in modern society. Education is a social practice which includes education and cultural communication in the broadest sense, as well as actions of human reproduction at large. Access to adult education should ensure the justice in the society, although scientists argue that education system is usually powerless to correct other social systems created by inequality and in justice Accessible and quality adult education system ensures better life, social mobility, and provides status. Accessibility of education (particularly adult’s) is unconsciously problem, unequally understandable phenomenon, rarely becoming the object of special investigation. This can be logical: usage of this concept gained a wider scope only in last years, when essential European political educational documents appeared, first of all, Memorandum of life-long learning. In long-life learning ensuring strategy, the analysis of present state is provided. A potential of informal adults education suppliers when integrating groups of social exclusion, consolidating local communities by raising political and civil literacy of society, what is directly related to common welfare of society, are not fully used. Seeking to increase the integration of socially vulnerable society groups, juridical base is constantly improved in recent years. The law of disabled people social integration and the law of social companies are enacted, interinstitutional programs, reflecting the needs of different social separation groups, making assumptions to develop the initiatives directed to education of social separation groups are implemented.

Opis:
Since the beginning of the twentieth century in Europe a process of aging is hastening. Initially the demographic transformation focused on the "old EU", now it is affecting the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, including Poland. Poland has exceeded the threshold of demographic old age in 1967. In 2010, the share of people aged over 65 in the total population of country amounted to about 13%. OECD forecasts show that in the year 2050 the elderly population (over 65 years old) will constitute 50% of the Polish population. The European Union and national governments face the challenge of mitigating the socio-economic effects of population aging. At EU, national and regional levels there are implemented the programs of active aging, affecting the elderly in the following dimensions: professional, social and individual. They are addressed primarily to the elderly, but also to other target groups. They counteract the ageism and build the awareness of demographic changes' processes. Education is an extremely important aspect of active aging. It performs two vital roles: delaying the individuals aging process, and furthermore, facilitates adaptation to old age. The essence of the article is to present the concept of active aging, and education functions it that. The study presents the educational activity of the elderly in Poland, too.

Educational and teacher training institutions for Jewish children and adolescents had a long and well-established tradition in Poland. Institutional forms of preschool education call for special attention, all the more so that the remaining national and ethnic minorities did not run their own kindergartens in Poland after WWII. In these circumstances, Jewish kindergartens were a striking exception. Ultimately, they suffered the same fate as the other educational and teacher training institutions managed by entities not welcomed by the Communist party and government in Poland, inspired by Marx’s and Lenin’s ideologies, whose guidelines from the communist headquarters in Moscow imposed a monopolistic vision of so-called socialist education and upbringing.

Opis:
The subject of this article is combating adult illiteracy in the People’s Republic of Poland. The existing knowledge concerning the topic has been supplemented with the analysis of the archival documents, currently being in possession of the Central Archives of Modern Records in Warsaw. It describes how illiterates were recognised in the society, in what way they were encouraged to train new skills and how attending the courses was made possible for them. The analysed documents include censors’ reviews of manuals, press articles, letters wrote by former illiterates and other valuable records. The communists were combating illiteracy not only in the name of the social progress, but mostly motivated by their quest to broaden the possibilities of ideological indoctrination – during the courses organised for illiterates and later on. This is why the selection of manuals and other publications addressed to former illiterates was propagandist. The strategic importance of the matter was expressed by Vladimir Lenin himself: “Socialism cannot be built by illiterates” (W. Ozga, Education in the six-year-plan and the revolutionary changes of the society and economics in the People’s Republic of Poland, Warsaw 1951, p. 124).

This article analyses the reviews of Polish books on the history of education and bringing up children in the years 1945-1989. It presents the ways in which critics reviewed new publications and shows the aspects which they paid special attention to. The reviews were published in the most renowned magazines among historians of education and raising children, such as ”Przegląd Historyczno-Oświatowy” (The History and Education Review), ”Rozprawy z Dziejów Oświaty” (Dissertations on the History of Education). Some of them were written by renowned specialists in the field. For contemporary historians, the reviews may constitute an interesting source of information on academic criticism from the times of the Polish People’s Republic. They may also bear witness to the hard work and efforts made towards conducting thorough studies into the history of education and bringing up children over various historical periods.

The social and political transformation which took place in Poland after World War II influenced the character of activities conducted by all kinds of institutions and organizations dealing with broadly understood educational and tutorial problems. The Society of the Friends of Children, established in 1949, constituted one of them. Although the activities conducted by the Society were convergent with the communist policy implemented by the state, the decision to abolish it was made in 1952. The Polish October marked a new chapter in the history of the Society. An active involvement of its members led to its formal reactivation in 1957. The Society of the Friends of Children was subsidised by the State until the end of the communist era and it implemented the policy of the government in the field of education and tutoring. The establishment and origin of The Society in Legnica were direct consequences of a spontaneous action for the benefit of children affected by WW II, who arrived in the city, taken by a group of teachers involved in the activities conducted by The Labour Society of the Friends of Children before WW II. Taking into account the political conditions and the reform of state administration, the following stages in the history of the Society in Legnica can be distinguished: 1949 –1956, 1957–1975, 1975 –1980 and 1981–1989. The available source materials reveal that between 1949 and 1989 The Society of the Friends of Children in Legnica conducted intensive activities for the benefit of children and the youth.

Opis:
The article presents the problems of deaf and hard of hearing people in education. This topic is widely analyzed. The text describes the difficulties experienced by students at school, at various stages of learning, and the barriers experienced by deaf and hard of hearing students at higher education levels. In general, the hearing deficit entails various communication complications. The person with hearing impairment has a limited opportunity to have different experiences and what is most important in the text – hearing loss or deafness often makes it impossible to gain an optimal education. There are different methods of educating people from the non-hearing environment, depending on the degree of hearing impairment. Hearing impaired student often has difficulty understanding Polish, as it is not always their first language (their first language may be the Polish sign language). Hearing impaired students sometimes don’t understand academic texts because they have weaker poorer vocabulary due to their communication dysfunction. Another issue is the social isolation of many people with hearing impairments which often have a dilemma which environment to integrate with – with hearing or hearing impaired? Teaching staff approaches such people in different ways. Stereotypes do not help in educational progress (for example, the assumption that such students communicate only in sign language). It is important to be aware of the types of hearing loss and the different types of hearing (each hearing impaired hears differently and needs an individual approach). Finally, the article discusses the issue of education of people with hearing impairment from the category of “space”. Through “space” you can understand here the environment (school space, classes and associated architectural-acoustic barriers) as well as the language of the Deaf. The sign language is specifically designed for living space (some of the signatures must be shown in the specified movement and direction, depending on the intention of the sender).

These two academic environments stimulated revival of this type of education. The analysis pertains to 1945–1952 when Poland witnessed crucial political and ideological changes affecting a new character of education. In the study, the process of nationalisation of artistic education is presented. The author shares her assumptions of the new teaching curricula designed in accordance with the ideological needs of the communist authorities. Marxism-Leninism was taught as a foreground subject. Graphic departments were established to educate specialists to be employed by the state propaganda. An attempt has been made to reconstruct the personal composition of the graphic faculties lecturers in both academic centres.

Artykuł dotyczy problematyki organizacji akcji masowego szkolenia ideologicznego nauczycieli w Polsce Ludowej w latach 1949–1956.
The article concerns the organization of mass ideological training of teachers in People's Poland in the years 1949-1956. It includes a section related to the activity of poviat ideological training instructors of teachers who were an extremely important link in this process, carried out by the Polish Teachers' Union. The study focuses on the practical side of their activity, consisting primarily in the organization, management and supervision of the work of ideological training team schools. This topic is presented based on the example of the activities of the instructors of the city of Tarnów and the Tarnów poviat, at the end of the Stalinist period in the Polish People's Republic. The aim of mass ideological training was to indoctrinate the teaching community so that teachers were ready to implement new curricula, became familiar with the new terminology of philosophy, sociology and political economy, as well as pedagogical sciences based on Marxism-Leninism. Thus, they were to contribute to building a socialist state, in line with the expectations of the communist party.

Opis:
The main purpose of this article is to present and bring closer the educational institution of the University of the Third Age, to draw attention to its educational, integrating, and activating role in the life of older people, as well as to define the challenges it faces in the face of the growing process of aging of society. The demographic changes which are taking place are increasing interest in the subject of older people and the ageing of society, but most of all they are inducing the greatest possible activation of older people by enabling them to have contact with their peers, satisfying their need for self-development, education and, above all, acquiring new skills. Universities of the Third Age provide older people with such opportunities. Their dynamic development in Poland and the positive changes they bring both for senior citizens themselves and local communities overshadow the problems they face in their daily activities.
