Opis:
The word 'e-learning' has made a big career in the past 10 years. Based on conducted researches, it can be stated that the number of web pages related to this issue has increased by 200 times, and in 12 years – even by 1000 times. At the beginning of this period, an expected curve of e-learning development was determined; sometimes it is called the “e-learning hyper-cycle”. It predicted a rapid development of the subject in the initial period and then a gradual decrease in interest. The purpose of this paper is to document if it really happened and what the trends of e-learning development are in the world and in Poland. The change in frequency of the word 'e-learning' occurrence in polish and world domains will be specially analysed, as it will be done with popularity of the problem in the scientific literature.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of this paper is to evaluate usefulness of distance learning courses as a form of learning from participants’ perspective. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: To achieve the purpose, two research methods have been employed: literature review, including rules and regulations concerning distance learning courses, and analysis of the results of a survey conducted among students participating in distance learning course as well as own observations and experiences. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: In the paper it is analysed, how students perceiveelearning courses comparing to traditional ones. First, selected Polish Minister of Higher Education and the Senate of Cracow University of Economics (CUE) regulations under which CUE teachers may conduct distance learning courses are presented. Second, the procedure for the preparation of elearning courses at CUE is described. The roles played by individual actors during the preparation of the course are discussed. Next, selected results of the survey conducted among course participants are presented. Finally, conclusions and observations are discussed. Results of the survey confirm that e-learning is a promising type of teaching supporting traditional lessons. RESEARCH RESULTS: Aconsiderable number of participants found this kind of didactic proces useful and attractive. However, an unexpectedly large number stated that they expected more traditional lessons. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The analysis allows to draw interesting conclusions concerning the necessity of selection of participants, problem of systematic work, methods of evaluation, personal contact with a teacher, preparation of teaching materials. All of them will be taken under consideration to improve the course for future participants.

E-learning to w skrócie przekazywanie wiedzy i umiejętności przy użyciu komputerów i sieci informatycznych. Odnosi się bezpośrednio do procesów i aplikacji używanych do przekazu. Można do nich zaliczyć nauczanie poprzez stronę internetową, nauczanie w oparciu o komputer i multimedia, wirtualną klasę czy też wirtualne grupy robocze. Nauczana treść dostarczana jest poprzez sieć Internet. Używane są do tego celu aplikacje LMS, których mnogość pozwala na wybór tej, która najlepiej sprosta wymaganiom danego ośrodka kształcenia.
E-learning is essentially the computer and network enabled transfer of skills and knowledge. It refers to using electronic applications and processes to learn. E-learning applications and processes include Web-based learning, computerbased learning, virtual classrooms and digital collaboration. Content is delivered via the Internet. A learning management system (LMS) is software for delivering, tracking and managing training/education. LMSs range from systems for managing training/educational records to software for distributing courses over the Internet and offering features for online collaboration.

Opis:
The use of new technologies in education implies new teacher roles, new pedagogies and new approaches to teacher education (Makrakis, 2005). The successful integration of ICT into the classroom will depend on the ability of teachers to structure the learning environment in new ways, to merge new technology with new pedagogy, and to develop socially active classrooms, encouraging co-operative interaction, collaborative learning and group work. This requires a different set of classroom management skills. The teaching skills of the future will include the ability to develop innovative ways of using technology to enhance the learning environment, and to encourage technology literacy, knowledge deepening and knowledge creation. Teacher professional learning will be a crucial component of this educational improvement. However, professional learning has an impact only if it is focused on specific changes in teaching (UNESCO, 2011).

The policy goal of the technology literacy approach is to enable learners, citizens, and the workforce to use ICT in order to support social development and to improve economic productivity. Related policy goals include increasing enrolments, making high-quality resources available to everyone, and improving literacy skills. Teachers should be aware of these goals and be able to identify the components of education reform programmes that correspond to these policy goals. Corresponding changes in the curriculum entailed by this approach might include improving basic literacy skills through technology and adding the development of ICT skills into relevant curriculum contexts (UNESCO, 2011).

Academic e-learning is not a new phenomenon world-wide or in Poland. However, there are only a few publications examining academic e-learning in Poland from a wider perspective (i.e., country-wide, and not only from that of the specific course, faculty member, or university orientation), and none of them present complex analysis and diagnosis. The goal of this paper is to present an investigation of academic e-learning in Poland in both public and private universities. The sample of 139 universities was surveyed, and relations between variables – such as e-learning process characteristics and university characteristics – were analysed via hypotheses testing. Results of the survey may constitute a basis for comparison on a national and international level and offer strategic directions for university authorities.

Opis:
The vast use of the Internet and the increasingly widespread access to the latest technologies have become the main reason for the development of remote teaching services. In an effort to modernize the educational offer, higher education institutions placed, in their programs of studies, different possibilities of teaching using „distance learning”. This trend is already very common in the world’s largest universities. The Polish higher education system, keeping the pace with current trends, has created a legal foundation for the use of modern forms of teaching. The current approach to teaching is also a response to the offer of leading universities of the world and thus the search for competitive advantage in the international educational market. The aim of the article is to present main objectives of the teaching method of e‑learning, and at the same time, to present the legal status and the rules for the use of e‑learning in Polish higher education. The article is based on the experience of such teaching introduced at the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow.

Opis:
The article presents attempts to identify the needs and problems of modern e-learning and designed a solution that meets the needs of the recipients of e-learning and e-learning content providers. On the basis of this analysis, it was found that the market lacks the e-learning platform that meets all the needs and requirements in remote education. E-learning systems are very poor functionally, and tools for achieving the objectives, such as content creation, content distribution, management learning, and synchronous online meetings appear as separate applications that do not necessarily work well together. Most often each of them must be used separately that extends the preparation of training materials, and is a burden in the administration and supervision of the training course. On the basis of the analysis of remote training needs of recipients and creators of content proposed solution supporting distance learning. On the basis of the analysis of literature and research of user behavior designed and developed an integrated e-learning platform that meets the expectations of the users. The system has successfully motivating tool to complete training and does not require expensive implementation. The main objective of the proposed system was to eliminate the disadvantages observed in other systems. It was found that the human factor impeding the effective acquisition of knowledge as lack of motivation for self-study and the lack of contact with the teacher. In order to minimize the impact of these factors on the educational goals proposed solutions such as elements of competition and extensive virtual classrooms.

This paper reports on The National Prescribing Curriculum (NPC), a series of online, casebased modules designed to improve prescribing performance and confidence in emerging Australian prescribers. The modules mirror the decision-making process outlined in the WHO Guide to Good Prescribing (de Vries et al., 1994) and were developed as an initiative to combat emerging data that, increasingly, medical graduates demonstrate shortfalls in basic pharmacological knowledge and prescribing skills (Hilmer et al., 2009). The modules are situated in real life situations and include complex, authentic tasks. As most learners access the modules in a self-paced mode, sophisticated levels of expert and peer feedback have been integrated into the modules.
