Opis:
The purpose of this article is the analysis of the system dynamics model validation illustrated by the example of a model of the manufacturing resource allocation. In the first part of the article the authors present an overview of the definitions of validation and verification that can be found in the reference literature. Also, they emphasize the role which validation and verification play in the modeling process. Furthermore, they discuss the techniques of system dynamics model validation with particular focus on tests of the model structure, behavior and policy implications. The second part of the article contains an example of the validation process of a system dynamics model simulating manufacturing resource allocation in an electronic company. The purpose of the model is to assess the long-term effect of assigning workers to individual tasks on such production process parameters as efficiency or effective work time. The authors focus their particular attention on that part of the model which deals with a storehouse, one of the company production units. They conduct tests of its structure and behavior. When validating the structure the authors make use of the information obtained in a series of interviews with the company staff. They also refer to the generally accepted knowledge found in the reference literature. The results generated by the model in the course of the behavior tests are compared with the real data. The authors evaluate both the logic of the system behavior and the level of accuracy of the output data in reference to the real system.

Opis:
The aim of our paper is to present the new results of research work on optimization and simulation for some logistic problems in the company. The System Dynamics (SD) method and the Vensim simulation language are applied in order to solve specific managerial problems described by Forrester in the model of supply chain. The historical model of Customer-Producer-Employment System by Forrester (Forrester, 1961) has not been examined with the sensitivity analysis, from the “automatic” testing perspective. Optimization experiments have not been conducted, either. It is surprising, since the model is old and widely known. The opportunities offered by the Vensim language allow us to perform such analysis. The visualization called “confidence bounds“ is used, to show the behaviour of chosen variables over a period of time. The Monte-Carlo method is applied for sampling a set of numbers from within bounded domains (distribution for each searching parameters is specified). The authors of this paper conducted numerous experiments in this scope. This paper presents their results and offers some conclusions formulated at the end.

The article presents an analytical approach to building a mathematical model of a quadrocopter. The main purpose of building the model was to design an appropriate facility control system and analyze its behavior in various situations. The assumption was made to build a model, control system and all accompanying algorithms in an open programming environment, which will allow their subsequent implementation in a real facility, without the need to use expensive software. The quadrocopter is controlled by the operator by means of hand movements that are read by the camera and properly interpreted using advanced image processing methods. The entire system is visualized and embedded in a three-dimensional simulation environment. The model study was conducted using a DC motor as an input data source. The operation of the model was checked with a controller when a disturbance was introduced into the model. The four-rotor model with a selected regulator was tested by analyzing the angular velocity and position of the object in a rectangular coordinate system. At the end of the article, the results of the simulations made are presented and the resulting conclusions are presented.
W artykule przedstawiono analityczne podejście do budowy modelu matematycznego czterowirnikowca.

The paper describes a methodology of determining the toxicity sources, using bioassay based on the wildlife objects that change their colorimetric parameters under the influence of toxic factors. The work explores the dynamism of the colorimetric attributes associated with plant pigments. It can be determined by computer processing of the data obtained from digital remote sensing of the lands affected by toxic pollution by means of such relatively low-cost and straightforward methods as digital photography from an aircraft or a drone. The results obtained do not allow direct measurements but rather serve as a basis for the development and characterization of new biomarkers.

Opis:
Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) swarms are utilized in various missions and operated within an open environment that is prone to disruptions. The resilience of UAV swarms, an important requirement, mainly revolves around ensuring stable and uninterrupted operations. Malicious attacks can implement the adverse impacts of potential threats through swarm communication links. In this context, the SIS (Susceptible → Infected → Susceptible) method is suitable for describing the information transmission within UAV swarms. An enhanced resilience model of the UAV swarm is proposed in this study, which incorporates the factors of self-dynamics, dynamics of topology, dynamics of information transmission, and SIS into the complex network model. Self-dynamics refer to the internal dynamics of the drones. In this paper, dynamics of topology consist of three factors: the varying distance between drones, the incoming degrees of each drone, and the number of communication types between drones. Lastly, dynamics of information transmission are characterized by SIS. The model proposed in this paper has the capability to effectively capture changes in the network topology as well as the dynamics of the system, which are significant contributors to the loss of resilience. And then, the average number of susceptible drones is utilized as the metric to evaluate the resilience of the swarm. Furthermore, an experiment is conducted where a UAV swarm successfully carries out a surveillance mission to demonstrate the advantages of our proposed method. The proposed model not only enables the support of mission planning but also facilitates the design enhancements of UAV swarms.

Opis:
The paper presents some ideas, showing that the methods of fuzzy sets may be effective in simulation studies of the economic systems dynamics. Fuzzy, by nature, results of such simulation studies are characterized as multidimensional and providing a wide range of information about the studied process. Classical methods of making analysis, which are mainly based on transforming the description of reality in terms of probabilistic systems, are not adjusted to exploration of potential experimental capacities connected with the use of the fuzzy sets, especially in the situation when the studying of the system dynamics is carried out not only with reference to the real system, but also along with the process of changes brought about in the sphere of a possibilities evaluation of real appearance of a picture of that dynamics. In case of studying the dynamics of economic systems, using the model of a system dynamics along with the fuzzy-collective modification, the concept of verifying feedback may refer to the management process. In the course of that process a loop verifying feedback can be placed. Simulative studying of that loop, from the point of view of the system engineering, should lead to conclusions concerning the quality of the management systems. Stating the relationship between the process of management and the state of the executive system makes it possible to formulate general rules of the theory of the system capacity to function. This theory presents a proposition of a content-related interpretation of the fuzzy results of the simulation studies with the fuzzy-collective modification in the study of the economic systems dynamics.

Opis:
The paper presents a new method applicable in determining the settings of PI and PID controllers for models of controlled systems given by the following transfer functions [wzór] and [wzór]. Using the capabilities of computer operations with symbolic variables, the closed system transfer function is expanded into a chain-type fraction, type V (Bultheel, 1978; Khovanskii, 1956; Halawa and Trzmielak-Stanislawska, 1986; Wall, 1973) and the second order convergent method is used as a simplified model. Denominator of this convergent M(s), is the following polynomial [wzór] with coefficients being the functions of controlled system parameters and unknown controller settings. Diagrams of step responses for systems given by second-order transfer functions are well known. Assuming the values of [wzór] and [wzór], we get a set of non-linear equations used to determine controller settings. The set of equations has been determined and resolved by means of Mathematica language which allows calculations with symbolic variables.

Opis:
The paper is an extension of the authors Kasperska E., Kasperski A., Bajon T. and Marjasz R. work (Kasperska et al., 2015) in the area of modeling and simulation of ecosystems on the base of "prey-predator" system dynamics model (presented on DSTA conference in 2015). The problem of connecting simulation with optimization is specially expanded to include both types of optimization - the policy optimization and the calibration. This new policy uses different set of parameters, model criteria and set of optimized parameters. The comparison between sensitivity analysis, optimization results and gaming outcome gives us a new view of learning process used by decision makers, model builders and students. We use the possibilities of visualization of simulation that are given by simulation language Vensim, and we try to apply calibration to detect the conditions, that stabilized that ecosystem and, what is quite new in the literature of this old, build the simulation game on base of that model to examine different scenarios of the human intervention in that ecosystem. At the end some conclusions are formulated.

In the early seventies The Club of Rome started a project called “The Predicament of Mankind”. Based on the work of members of this club the modeling, analysis and simulation of humanity development were initiated. Furthermore, the macro models containing natural resources, population, capital investment, pollution and agriculture issues were built. One of those models – the World Model – presents a complex dynamics of all five cited issues. To address such questions as how well the humanity will progress in the future, the authors thoroughly examined this model. We performed sensitivity analysis for selected parameters such as Birth Rate and made an attempt to optimize other parameters for example the Quality of Life. The results of this research are presented together with open issues for further investigations.
Na początku lat siedemdziesiątych XX w. Klub Rzymski rozpoczął projekt „The Predicament of Mankind”.

The worldwide competitive economy, the increase in sustainable issue and investment of new production line is demanding companies to choose the right machine from the available ones. An improper selection can negatively affect the overall performance of the manufacturing system like productivity, quality, cost and companys responsive manufacturing capabilities. Thus, selecting the right machine is desirable and substantial for the company to sustain competitive in the market. The ultimate objective of this paper is to formulate a framework for machining strategy and also provide methodology for selecting machine tool from two special purpose machine tools in consideration of interaction of attributes. A decision support system for the selection of machine tool is developed. It evaluates the performance of the machining process and enhances the manufacturer (decision maker) to select the machine with respect to the performance and the pre-chosen criteria. Case study was conducted in a manufacturing company. A system dynamics modelling and simulation techniques is demonstrated towards efficient selection of machine tool that satisfy the future requirement of engine-block production.

Developing an effective business strategy ought to be based on the aspects of rationality, not only with the roots of present time, but also with the past and characteristics acquired in previous competitive episodes that may form the context for future ones. Thus, in analyzing the possibility of supporting decisionmaking process, one should take into account the essential properties of economic entities (objects), such as their complexity, dynamics and nonlinearity. Within this perspective, in order to model the dynamic behavior, system dynamics approach has been used in the work here reported. This technique complements the popular management approach of balance scorecard, providing the multidimensional view of an enterprise and expressing the interrelations among different processes in it.

Bringing a new IT product onto the market possess a high business risk due to two main factors: lifetime of an IT product is usually short; IT market is very competitive one. Product success depends on many mutually linked factors and very often the relations among them are difficult to grasp by business analysts. In the paper we present the System Dynamics model describing some important factors which should be analyzed before bringing a new IT product onto the market. We assume that an IT product is maintained within an outsourcing model by other company which uses a cloud computing for that purpose. Our study embraces analysis of the pricing policy of product and that takes into account opponents in the market. We also consider possible modifications of IT product configurations, outsourcing scope and the modification of marketing policy depending on actual IT product parameters. While building the model presented in the paper, contrary to other models in literature, we have used only parameters which can be estimated precisely. By sticking to this attitude we have obtained the model which is more useful than other models presented in the literature on the subject. We present simulation results of the dynamic model for different simulation scenarios resulting from different policies of bringing a new product onto the market.

The article presents the steps of modeling of the material management system in a manufacturing company. First, the modeling procedures indicating by Forrester, Łukaszewicz, Souček, Tarajkowski and Sterman were described and the essence of materials management in a manufacturing company was presented. Next, modeling of the materials management system was shown - step by step. Initially, the variables of the mental model connected with materials were defined, then variables in casual loop diagrams were linked. Diagrams were transformed into a simulation model that has been verified. The validation of the simulation model was conducted by using the following methods: assessing the correctness of the boundary of modeling, adequacy of the model structure and adopted values (constants) compared with available knowledge about the modelled system; test of the accuracy and consistency of the units of variables adopted in the model and test of the model behavior in extreme conditions. The study endpoints included the simulation of the model on empirical data, which were collected in the company Alpha and test of the “what ... if ...”. The test showed that the small changes in control norms (constants), which control the system, could have influenced to more rational management of that system.
