Opis:
Parthenium, an aggressive invasive weed, is believed to be a native to North and South America. Due to its allelopathic effect and adaptability to different environmental conditions, it is now distributed throughout the world including Ethiopia, where it was reported first in 1988, in the eastern and later in the north-eastern parts of the country. Some scholars believe that Parthenium came to Ethiopia together with the donated grain when the country was hit by famine. Othersopine that entered into the country during the Ethio - Somalia war in 1976/77 through military vehicles from Somalia. Still others also presume it has slipped into Ethiopia from the neighboring countries like Kenya. The weed aggressively invaded several rangelands in the country due to its allelopathic effect, capacity to produce copious amount of seeds and its ability to compete for resources to survive. It can affect the biodiversity, agriculture, human and animal health and the economic activities of society. Although several mitigation methods, mechanical, cultural, chemical, biological and utilization methods are used to control it, there is no single effective method, as each method suffers from limitations. This noxious weed can be managed by public awareness and participatory integrated approaches. There is a need to encourage the research on utilization of this weed for insecticidal properties and try to evaluate the potential on pests of different crops. Therefore, managing this troublesome weed through integrated and eco-friendly approaches is suggested for an effective management.

Opis:
In the up to date competition, the optimal degree of complexity severely influences the success of distribution networks and therefore the success of the entire company. Nevertheless, it seems that up to now, limited research has been done on distribution network complexity. Therefore, this paper deals with current theoretical and practical approaches of complexity management in distribution networks. Methodologically, first an in-depth literature review is conducted, highlighting the existing complexity handling tools in different areas. Since this analysis shows that no approach specifically copes with the requirements of distribution networks, exploratory expert interviews are carried out. Comparing the findings shows that neither literature, nor industrial practice investigate or institutionalize complexity management in distribution networks. Thus, this paper provides opportunities to close this gap. On the one hand, a framework which can be used to elaborate suitable complexity management strategies for distribution networks is presented. On the other hand, the relevant areas of distribution networks are narrowed down in order to create a basis for developing a comprehensive method for complexity management in distribution systems.

Information about the distribution of withdrawals is very essential for ATM networks. It supports optimization of the replenishment process for ATMs. The conducted research showed that the daily distribution of withdrawals was similar among the examined ATMs owned by the Euronet company. Location was the main factor in determining empirical distribution on the same days of the week. Logistic distribution fit best to withdrawals from ATMs located in shopping centers, bank branches, shops, and supermarkets. In addition, uniform distribution was found to be the best alternative for withdrawals from ATMs operating at petrol stations.

With aid of ‘logistics’ term, we can assume that logistics of production is oriented on planning, organizing, leading and controlling the effective flow of materials and other cooperative elements required in the manufacturing process and respective information, beginning with supply warehouses, through all intermediary production facilities, and ending with warehouses for finished goods and the sales. According to such description of production logistics we can assume, that it does not cope with sole production in terms of performed technological tasks, but is concentrated on the organization of production system in terms of establishing conditions and performance of undisturbed and optimal flow for materials through all production processes. Managing the flow for materials in the production process is generally dependant from manufacturing profile, as well as from the level of organization and concept for company’s management. Production processes are dependant from type of manufacturing organization, what is understood as the level of specialization in the manufacturing cells and related level of stability in the manufacturing process. The purpose of this papers is description of supply chain management as the element of logistics and its functioning in logistic company.

Potable water is a commodity and basic necessity of life for which metropolitan areas and adjacent areas are to pay. Water from Manila Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) has also become a problem considering the low water supply coming from their sources. Because of El Nino phenomena and other problems of the water system, rationing Metro Manila was implemented. This descriptive study aimed to assess the performance and effectiveness of community water supply management in terms of the quality of water such taste, odor, color, sediments, service and cost and design water safety plan for the community. Purposive sampling was used to determine the participation of the knowledgeable homeowners of Karangalan Village in the province of Rizal. Some interesting insights of the study are: Potable water is the water delivered to the homeowners. However, there are sediments and brownish color observed in the water due to pipe corrosion. In terms of service, the performance of the water system delivered to the homeowners is acceptable based on the volume delivery, accessibility, availability, promptness, and reliability. Homeowners who use potable water are satisfied in terms of its efficiency, effectiveness, user-friendly, promptness and expandability. Water safety plan is an integral part of the whole planning process and helps improve the management of Karangalan village water supply and may be undertaken or updated at any time

Smart Buildings is a modern building that allows residents to have sustainable comfort with high efficiency of electricity usage. These objectives could be achieved by applying appropriate, capable optimization algorithms and techniques. This paper presents a Housing Development Building Management System (HDBMS) strategy inspired by Building Energy Management System (BEMS) concept that will integrate with smart buildings using Supply Side Management (SSM) and Demand Side Management (DSM) System. HDBMS is a Multi-Agent System (MAS) based decentralized decision making system proposed by various authors. MAS based HDBMS was created using JAVA on a IEEE FIPA compliant multi-agent platform named JADE. It allows agents to communicate, interact and negotiate with energy supply and demand of the smart buildings to provide the optimal energy usage and minimal electricity costs. This results in reducing the load of the power distribution system in smart buildings which simulation studies has shown the potential of proposed HDBMS strategy to provide the optimal solution for smart building energy management.

Purpose: The aim of the presented investigations was to explore the possibilities of the effective use of the 8D method to improve the merchandise distribution processes. Design/methodology/approach: The application of the 8D method involved the use of support tools, such as 5Why or ABC. These tools helped to identify and categorize problems involved in the distribution of goods. Next, major problems and their causes were identified. The 8D method enabled establishing improvement, corrective and remedial actions. The last stage of the analysis was verifying the effectiveness of the implemented actions, which proved that the application of the 8D method to improve distribution processes was justified. Findings: The 8D method turned out to be an effective tool for solving problems identified in the distribution process, which proves its effective transfer from the automotive industry. Research limitations/implications: The correct use of the 8D method, which guarantees obtaining reliable and useful results, is only possible if an interdisciplinary research team is appointed. Such a team should consist of a leader and specialists from organizational units responsible for the process correctness. Small and medium-size companies may have insufficient resources to conduct investigations and analyses in a proper way. Practical implications: The discussed case study proves that it is possible to use advanced management methods in the company. Creating an efficient and experienced team should result in developing an effective mechanism for identifying the causes and solving problems in the company’s logistic processes. Originality/value: An original solution is implementation of the 8D method from the automotive industry to improve logistic processes.

Mercadona is currently the largest Spanish distribution company, and one of the food companies with the highest turnover in southern Europe, able to grow and adapt to the circumstances of each moment, in what has been considered an unique business model. Juan Roig is its founder and owner, creating an unprecedented business model in Spain, placing the customer at the center of all its activity. It is a family model created in 1975 by Juan Roig’s parents. He took over the responsibility of the company’s management some years later (1981), starting up an expansion strategy that has reached, only in Spain, 1,600 points of sale in 2017. That year, sales reached 21,000 million euros, with 84,000 workers. Juan Roig implemented from its early years a new strategy known as “Total Quality Management”, betting on finding the best products at the lowest prices. These, and other innovative actions in the fields of distribution and marketing, have transformed this Valencian company into one of the great national and international references of distribution.
