Opis:
Structural change for the Koyck Distributed Lag Model is analyzed through the Bayesian approach. The posterior distribution of the break point is derived with the use of the normal-gamma prior density and the break point, ν, is estimated by the value that attains the Highest Posterior Probability (HPP). Simulation study is done using R.
Given the parameter values ϕ = 0.2 and λ = 0.3, the full detection of the structural change when σ² = 1 is generally attained at ν + 1. The after one lag detection is due to the nature of the model which includes lagged variable. The interval estimate HPP near ν consistently and efficiently captures the break point ν in the interval HPPₜ ± 5% of the sample size. On the other hand, the detection of the structural change when σ² = 2 does not show any improvement of the point estimate of the break point ν.

Aiming at the problem of DC voltage control deviation and instability caused by a large-scale renewable energy access VSC–MTDC system, this paper combines voltage margin control and droop control. A strategy for controlling collaborative optimization in a sparsely distributed communication network has been proposed. Firstly, the distributed modeling of the system is carried out by combining MAS technology with small signal modeling. Then, a distributed model predictive controller is designed for a single droop control converter station. On this basis, a distributed cooperative optimization control strategy is proposed. According to the DC voltage deviation, the system adopts different control methods to control the receiving converter station. Finally, based on PSCAD/EMTDC and MATLAB co-simulation platforms, a six-terminal flexible HVDC system is built to verify the effectiveness of the control strategy under different conditions such as input power fluctuation, any converter station out of operation and system communication failure.

Opis:
Vehicles involved in platoon formation may experience difficulties in obtaining full-state information that can be exchanged and used for controller synthesis. Therefore, a distributed controller based on a model reference and designed utilizing a cooperative observer is proposed for vehicle platoon synchronization. The proposed controller is composed of three main blocks, namely, the reference model, the cooperative observer and the main controller. The reference model is developed by using a homogeneous vehicle platoon that utilizes cooperative full-state information. The cooperative observer is a state estimator which is constructed based on the cooperative output estimation error. It provides state estimates to be used by the main controller. The main controller is constructed from a nominal control and a synchronization input. The nominal control has the main task of tracking the lead vehicle, while in order to reduce the synchronization error, the synchronization input is added by utilizing the cooperative disagreement error. Stability analysis is focused on the vehicle platoon when it is subjected to completely periodical intermittent information. The condition on the information rate is derived for guaranteeing the synchronization of the platoon. Numerical simulation of a vehicle platoon consisting of one leader and five followers is used to examine the performance of the controller.

Opis:
Acoustic meta-materials offer an approach to reducing the vibration and noise transmission through layered panels. In this paper, the investigation of constructed meta-material for reduction of low-frequency vibration and noise is a major concern. The key concept underlying this approach is to construct the metamaterial as a highly-distributed system of tuned point masses that introduce instead of low resonance frequency one or more bands of higher frequency. They can be then successfully damped with passive methods. Using the modes method, a metamaterial system with distributed point masses integrated into the honeycomb core was designed to be a representative layered panel. To determine the dynamic response of the global sandwich panel, the metamaterial system was tested for 70 Hz and 120 Hz excitation. The obtained results confirm the possibility of tuning the considered layered meta-material to the excitation frequency and shifting low frequencies towards higher frequencies.

The paper treats on hydrological distributed model adaptation for a catchment with significant contribution of wetland. The WetSpa model was applied to analyzing the effects of topography, soil type, and land use cover on the runoff characteristics for upper Biebrza catchment. The derivation of parameter maps and analysis of the daily runoff as reaction of the catchment on rainfall was performed. The semi-automated calibration of the model was executed using PEST module. Then, the assessment of that crucial processes was done by calculating errors of mathematical models performance as well as hydrograph comparison. Error values, have shown that the model efficiency was estimated to be good for high flows, but unsatisfactory for low flows. This initial modeling approach gives possibility to ask question about limitation and needs of wetland catchment for rainfall-runoff modeling.

Do kalibracji wykorzystano procedurę półautomatyczną stosując program PEST. Następnie przeprowadzono ocenę najważniejszych procesów obliczając błędy modelowania matematycznego oraz porównując hydrogramy odpływu. Wielkości błędów pokazały wysoka skuteczność modelu w przypadku symulacji przepływów wysokich lecz niesatysfakcjonujące wyniki w obliczaniu przepływów niskich. Ta wstępna analiza dała możliwość zadania pytań o granice i potrzeby w modelowaniu opad- odpływ na obszarach mokradłowych.

Opis:
Foreign direct investment (FDI) is an important driver of countries' economic development. Factors such as looser environmental regulations may cause dirty FDI to flow mainly to developing countries. This is explained by the Pollution Haven Hypothesis. eTh paper aims to investigate whether the Pollution Haven Hypothesis is valid in Turkey using the nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) approach for the period 1974-2017. eTh results show that FDI inflows and carbon emissions have asymmetric eefcts in both the short and long term for Turkey, supporting the Pollution Haven Hypothesis. Furthermore, there is a link between carbon emissions and trade openness, manufacturing and economic growth. Policymakers should develop the policies necessary to transfer clean technologies to Turkey by providing improvements and technical advances for a more eficient energy use.

Opis:
Global climate change is anticipated to have consequences on water resources and the environment both at global and local/regional levels. Efforts towards proper management of future water resources and resolving potential water-related conflicts require the formulation of appropriate techniques to downscale the output of global climate models (GCM) to local conditions for hydrologic prediction. The paper presents an integrated framework for modeling the impact of climate change on river runoff that combines methodology for downscaling climate change scenarios for a basin scale with a hydrological model to estimate the impact of climate change on a river runoff. The modeling framework uses long-term observations of meteorological and hydrological variables together with a climate change scenario to provide a projection of future flows for the specified time horizon. The framework is based on a spatial weather generator and a distributed rainfall-runoff model. Such a configuration enables a reflection of the uncertainty of future conditions by running multiple realizations of future conditions, and also take into account the spatial variability of hydrological properties in the catchment by maintaining the physical details at a given grid size. The performance of the framework was presented for the Kaczawa basin that is one of the main left bank tributaries of the Odra River – the second biggest river in Poland. The results show simulated changes of the future river flow regime caused by climatic changes for two time horizons: 2040 and 2080.

The existing literature is sparse on the role of international finance in modeling the FDI-growth nexus. This study integrates the role of international trade and external debt in the FDI-economic growth nexus for Brazil, Nigeria, and Vietnam. We apply the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model to annual data covering the period 1990-2021. The results show that FDI and trade have positive but insignificant effects on economic growth in all three countries. In addition, our results show that external debt hampers long-term economic growth in these countries. Based on the results, we propose country-specific recommendations that take into account specific economic and financial conditions, global market dynamics, and the long-term development goals of developing countries.

Opis:
The burden of external debt affects the wellbeing of an economy (or a country) by making the economy vulnerable to external shocks and crowding out investment. When dealing with debt management in indebted poor countries like Nigeria, the rational approach is to allocate a portion of export earnings for debt service payments. Along this line, there is a need to identify the link between debt servicing and export earnings. Hence, the current and long-run effects of export earnings on debt service payments are modelled as a single-input-single-output discrete-time dynamical system within the framework of the Autoregressive moving average explanatory input model of the Koyck kind (KARMAX). The KARMAX model is identified for Nigeria using data from the World Bank database from 1970 to 2018 based on the maximum likelihood (ML) method, and the obtained results are compared to the prediction error and the instrumental variable methods. From a theoretical perspective, the KARMAX specification identified by the ML method is more ideal and inspiring. By doing so, this article contributes to the literature on the econometrics of public debt management.

This paper describes the influence of some parameters significant to biomass pyrolysis on the numerical solutions of the non-isothermal nth order distributed activation energy model (DAEM) using the Gamma distribution and discusses the special case for the positive integer value of the scale parameter (), i.e. the Erlang distribution. Investigated parameters are the integral upper limit, the frequency factor, the heating rate, the reaction order, and the shape and rate parameters of the Gamma distribution. Influence of these parameters has been considered for the determination of the kinetic parameters of the non-isothermal nth order Gamma distribution from the experimentally derived thermoanalytical data of biomass pyrolysis. Mathematically, the effect of parameters on numerical solution is also used for predicting the behaviour of the unpyrolysized fraction of biomass with respect to temperature. Analysis of the mathematical model is based upon asymptotic expansions, which leads to the systematic methods for efficient way to determine the accurate approximations. The proposed method, therefore, provides a rapid and highly effective way for estimating the kinetic parameters and the distribution of activation energies.

Opis:
The typical Mediterranean climate is marked at certain times of the year by sudden torrential rains causing high water flows, which leads to heavy flooding and hydroclimatic fluctuations due to a semi-arid climate. This explains the need for hydrological modeling for water resource management in these contexts. This work concerns the hydrological modeling of the Azzaba catchment area in Haut-Sebou “Morocco”. In the first part of this work, a bibliographic synthesis was carried out to characterize certain factors (physical, geological and climatic), and a hydrological study was carried out by processing rainfall and hydrometric data from the considered time periods. Ultimately, the use of the “ATHYS” platform is beginning to reproduce the flows at the Azzaba outlet. This model is really applicable in the semi-arid context based on several studies carried out on these contexts, since it has to consider the chronological sequence of phenomena on one hand and the influence of the climatic and physicalhydrogeological parameters of the basin (humidity and soil exchange) on the other. Several criteria were used in this study to estimate the model performance; the most common is Nash-Sutcliffe. After observation and analysis of the overall results, it can be concluded that the model reproduces flows in the Azzaba River watershed well, especially in event mode (mean Nash-Sutcliffe value of 0.71). The use of a historical meteorological time series to simulate flow using a daily time step gives average results with a Nash of 0.50, which strengthens the reliability of the ATHYS platform in the Mediterranean climate area.

ObjectivesThe aim of this study was to determine the lag between exposure to air pollutants and changes in human eosinophil counts.Material and MethodsThis was a retrospective study employing 246 425 physical examination records dated December 2013 – December 2016 from Chengdu, China. The authors determined the prevalence of individuals with eosinophil counts above the normal reference range each day. A distributed lag non-linear model was used to evaluate the lagged effect of each air pollutant on eosinophil counts. The lagged effects of each air pollutant were counted and presented with smoothing splines.ResultsThe effects of air pollutants such as particulate matter (PM2.5, aerodynamic diameters <2.5 μm; PM10, aerodynamic diameters <10 μm), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and ozone (O3) were evaluated. In women, the effects of PM2.5 (RR = 1.154, 95% CI: 1.061–1.255) and PM10 (RR = 1.309, 95% CI: 1.130–1.517) reached the maximum values on lag day 0. In men, there was no significant effect of PM2.5, but significant effects of PM10 were found for lag days 20–28. The effects of NO2 and O3 on eosinophils were not statistically significant for either gender.ConclusionsThe air pollutants of PM10 have a significant effect on human eosinophils for both women and men, but with different temporal patterns, with women showing a lag of 0–5 days and men showing a lag of 20–28 days. In addition, PM2.5 was significant for women with a lag of 0–3 days but it was not significant for men.

In this paper, we extended previous studies of cooperating autonomous robots to include situations when environmental changes and changes in the number of robots in the swarm can affect the efficiency to execute tasks assigned to the swarm of robots. We have presented a novel approach based on partition of the robot behavior. The sub-diagrams describing sub-routs allowed us to model advanced interactions between autonomous robots using limited number of state combinations avoiding combinatorial explosion of reachability. We identified the systems for which we can ensure the correctness of robots interactions. New techniques were presented to verify and analyze combined robots’ behavior. The partitioned diagrams allowed us to model advanced interactions between autonomous robots and detect irregularities such as deadlocks, lack of termination etc. The techniques were presented to verify and analyze combined robots’ behavior using model checking approach. The described system, Dedan verifier, is still under development. In the near future, timed and probabilistic verification are planned.

Nowadays, growing attention is directed towards energy efficiency and issues related to respecting energy. An extremely vital role at improving energy efficiency plays the cogeneration technologies. In the 2012/27/UE Directive [1], the gas turbines [2] in combination with heat recovery, combustion engines [3, 4], steam engines [4], fuel cells [5-7], microturbines [8], Rankine organic cycle [9, 10], Stirling engines [11-15], and others, were included among cogeneration technologies, in which electric energy is produced from waste heat in the combined process. In this work, the distributed generation sources have also been addressed. From the perspective of the article herein, the sources equipped with the crankshaft assembly have been particularly emphasised. This mechanism converts chemical energy of, among others, fuel or working element into mechanical energy (the piston reciprocating motion is converted into rotary motion of a crankshaft). In this work, the physical model of the crankshaft assembly has been shown, with two degrees of freedom. On the basis of analysis of the physical model (with the static mass reduction), a single-piston simulation model has been developed of the crankshaft assembly, using the Matlab&Simulink software. On the basis of the analysis of the system, the motion equations have been derived, which served the purpose of building the simulation model. Because of the conducted simulations, the curves of displacement, velocity, and piston acceleration have been presented, and, respectively, the angular displacement, angular velocity, and angular acceleration of the crankshaft. The constructed model should be seen as a part of a multi-piston working mechanism in a, for example, Stirling engine.

Inspired by the multi-agent systems, we propose a model-based distributed control architecture for robotic manipulators. Here, each of the joints of the manipulator is controlled using a joint level controller and these controllers account for the dynamic coupling between the links by interacting among themselves. Apart from the reduced computational time due to distributed computation of the control law at the joint levels, the knowledge of dynamics is fully utilized in the proposed control scheme, unlike the decentralized control schemes proposed in the literature. While the proposed distributed control architecture is useful for a general serial-link manipulator, in this paper, we focus on planar manipulators with revolute joints. We provide a simple model-based distributed control scheme as an illustration of the proposed distributed model-based control architecture. Based on this scheme, distributed model-based controller has been designed for a planar 3R manipulator and simulations results are presented to demonstrate that the manipulator successfully tracks the desired trajectory.
