Opis:
HVAC systems use a substantial part of the whole energy usage of buildings. The optimizing of their operation can greatly affect the power use of a building, making them an interesting subject when trying to save energy. However, this should not affect the comfort of the people inside. Many approaches aim to optimize the operation of the heating and cooling system; in this paper, we present an approach to steer the heat pumps to reduce energy usage while aiming to maintain a certain level of comfort. For this purpose, we employ a market-based distributed method for power-balancing. To maintain the comfort level, the market-based distributed system assigns each device a cost-curve, parametrized with the current temperature of the room. This allows the cost to reflect the urgency of the HVAC operation. This approach was tested in a real-world environment: we use 10 heat pumps responsible for temperature control in 10 comparable-sized rooms. The test was performed for 3 months in summer. We limited the total peak power, and the algorithm balanced the consumption of the heat pumps with the available supply. The experiments showed that the system successfully managed to operate within the limit (lowering peak usage), and - to a certain point – reduce the cost without significantly deteriorating the working conditions of the occupants of the rooms. This test allowed us to estimate the minimal peak power requirement for the tested set-up that will still keep the room temperatures in or close to comfortable levels. The experiments show that a fully distributed market-based approach with parametrized cost functions can be used to limit peak usage while maintaining temperatures.

The number of subscribers in mobile networks is growing rapidly, which challenges network management and data delivery. Efficient management and routing are key solutions. One important solution is distributed mobility management (DMM), which handles the mobility of subscribers at the edges of mobile networks and load balancing. Otherwise, mobility anchors are distributed across a network that can manage the handover procedures. In this paper, we propose a novel mobility anchor-selection scheme based on the results of a cost function with three factors to select a suitable cell as well as an anchor for moving subscribers and improving the handover performances of networks. Our results illustrate that the proposed scheme provides significantly enhanced handover performance.

The aim of the paper is to analyse contemporary trends in distributed manufacturing (DM) research and to present a concept to develop and test some task allocation, planning and scheduling algorithms for DM network organisations. Some concepts to identify key factor criteria and reasoning policies and rules for production/manufacturing decision support system are also undertaken. And finally, an aim is to draw a proposal for a development of a prototype decision support system with necessary communication and knowledge oriented modules to be implemented in an example of dynamic, DM and logistics network structure, particularly for very popular dynamic cluster forms in Poland. The developed concept of the organization of a multi-entity DM network will enable business-effective use of the system, supporting manufacturing decision making, consulting and offering information services in the control centre (the so-called Competence Centre) by constructing virtual reality and access to services in a distributed network of cloud computing type. Integration of the whole system into one information system will enable analysis and network resource optimization of manufacturing and logistics processes, new analytical functions, reduction of delays in the manufacturing system, management of changes and risks, and visualization of the current state of the DM system.

Opis:
Currently, the distribution system has been adapted to include a variety of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). Maximum benefits can be extracted from the distribution system with high penetration of DERs by transforming it into a sustainable, isolated microgrid. The key aspects to be addressed for this transformation are the determination of the slack bus and assurance of reliable supply to the prioritized loads even during contingency. This paper explores the possibilities of transforming the existing distribution system into a sustainable isolated net-work by determining the slack bus and the optimal locations and capacity of Distributed Generators (DGs) in the isolated network, taking into account the contingencies due to faults in the network. A combined sensitivity index is formulated to determine the most sensitive buses for DG placement. Further, the reliability based on the loss of load in the isolated system when a fault occurs is evaluated, and the modifications required in for reliability improvement are discussed. The supremacy of the transformed isolated network with distributed generators is comprehended by comparing the results from conventional IEEE 33-bus grid connected test system and modified IEEE 33-bus isolated test system having no interconnection with the main grid.

The article deals with the issues of user identity management in the context of distributed web systems. The basic concepts and presented possible solutions related to the property of Single sign on (SSO) which can provide an access to multiple connected systems after a single login have been identified. The method of selecting a specific solution that can provide SSO has been exemplified by the decision process in the ActGo-Gate project. Taking the above information into consideration, OpenID Connect (OIDC) should better meet the project’s expectations as it satisfies all the mentioned requirements to an acceptable extent, and therefore should ensure full SSO property in cooperation with the common user directory. Then the particular solution chosen for implementing OIDC is Connect2id (as Identity Provider) with the OpenDJ LDAP user directory. The most important arguments in favor of that decision were presented in the paper.

Solving workflow management system’s Distributed Computing Infrastructure (DCI) incompatibility and their workflow interoperability issues are very challenging and complex tasks. Workflow management systems (and therefore their workflows, workflow developers and also their end-users) are bounded tightly to some limited number of supported DCIs, and efforts required to allow additional DCI support. In this paper we are specifying a concept how to enable generic DCI compatibility for grid workflow management systems (such as ASKALON, MOTEUR, gUSE/WS-PGRADE, etc.) on job and indirectly on workflow level. To enable DCI compatibility among the different workflow management systems we have developed the DCI Bridge software solution. In this paper we will describe its internal architecture, provide usage scenarios to show how the developed service resolve the DCI interoperability issues between various middleware types. The generic DCI Bridge service enables the execution of jobs onto the existing major DCI platforms (such as Service Grids (Globus Toolkit 2 and 4, gLite, ARC, UNICORE), Desktop Grids, Web services, or even cloud based DCIs).

In the paper an approximate algorithm for optimizing of distributed computing WAN network is proposed. Distributed computing systems become the common tools in different kind of business, science and even entertainment. In order to minimize processing time of data and utilize spare resources available on remote systems, many companies and institutions decide to build and maintain own wide area networks (WAN) for ensuring reliable and secure distributed processing of data. Design of WANs in concerned with solving different optimization problems, like routing assignment, capacities of channel selection, resource (i.e. servers, management centre) allocation. Due to peculiar structure of wide area networks and nature of protocols, proper optimization methods and algorithms should be constructed for WAN-based distributed computing systems. In the paper the model of the distributed environment, built on WAN infrastructure is presented. Then, the optimization problem for routing assignment, channel capacities assignment and grid management center (data repository) allocation is formulated. Finally, an approximate algorithm is presented for formulated problem. Proposed algorithm, observations and conclusions should effect in improving of distributed computing systems design.

There is high demand for storage related services supporting scientists in their research activities. Those services are expected to provide not only capacity but also features allowing for more exible and cost ecient usage. Such features include easy multiplatform data access, long term data retention, support for performance and cost dierentiating of SLA restricted data access. The paper presents a policy-based SLA storage management model for distributed data storage services. The model allows for automated management of distributed data aimed at QoS provisioning with no strict resource reservation. The problem of providing users with the required QoS requirements is complex, and therefore the model implements heuristic approach for solving it. The corresponding system architecture, metrics and methods for SLA focused storage management are developed and tested in a real, nationwide environment. Keywords distributed storage systems, quality of service, service level agreement, management model, heuristics.

Power microgrid is a small power system, whose primary objective is to cover local energy needs. Microgrid is composed of generating units, storage facilities and energy consumers. Construction of hierarchical control system with the optimizer for power microgrid is main article issue. The controller manages the resources of electricity to cover the needs of local households, taking into account economic aspects. Hierarchical control structure with optimization and assignment layers is applied. Very comprehensive description of definition of the optimization problem with decision variables, constraints and initial conditions including batteries SOC (state of charge) is presented. An important element in proposed approach is to have consumers demand forecasts and weather reports which are related with energy production from renewable energy sources. Authors assumed the availability of these forecasts, and these issues are not dealt with in the article, although it is worth mentioning that the quality of forecasts has an impact on control quality. Simulation studies were carried out and the obtained results confirming the correctness of the presented method. The final form of presented microgrid controller is built based on an open source software and can be implemented with low cos hardware such as Raspberry Pi.

Introspection is the prerequisite of autonomic behavior, the first step towards performance improvement and resource usage optimization for large-scale distributed systems. In grid environments, the task of observing the application behavior is assigned to monitoring systems. However, most of them are designed to provide general resource information and do not consider specific information for higher-level services. More precisely, in the context of data-intensive applications, a specific introspection layer is required to collect data about the usage of storage resources, data access patterns, etc. This paper discusses the requirements for an introspection layer in a data management system for large-scale distributed infrastructures. We focus on the case of BlobSeer, a large-scale distributed system for storing massive data. The paper explains why and how to enhance BlobSeer with introspective capabilities and proposes a three-layered architecture relying on the MonALISA monitoring framework. We illustrate the autonomic behavior of BlobSeer with a self-configuration component aiming to provide storage elasticity by dynamically scaling the number of data providers. Then we propose a preliminary approach for enabling self-protection for the BlobSeer system, through a malicious client detection component. The introspective architecture has been evaluated on the Grid'5000 testbed, with experiments that prove the feasibility of generating relevant information related to the state and behavior of the system.
