Opis:
Sudan is a country divided into two parts - the North and South. The domestic wars between South Sudan and the government in Khartoum, which have lasted since gaining independence in 1956, as well as a still lasting conflict in Darfur, led to creation of the biggest group of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in this country. The IDPs have emigrated from South Sudan to North, most often to the suburbs of Khartoum. It is estimated that over 5 million people have escaped from the South to the North so far. In the whole history of Sudan the differences between those two regions have deepened. The differences resulted from marginalization of the South and attempts of the government in Khartoum to arabisate and islamizate the whole country. The most important criterion of division in Sudan is religion. In South Sudan live Christians and worshipers of animist religion, Islam, on the other hand, prevails in the North. In camps for IDPs from South discrimination because of lighter colour of skin and different religion is still visible. The Southerners are strangers in their own country.

In the present paper we consider the specific relationship between communal and agentic functioning of narcissistic individuals. The study was aimed to test whether narcissist’s aggression is due to not only negative information about their agency but also positive information about their communion. Whereas the first effect is well- documented in empirical studies, the second effect has been revealed in our prior research. The results of the present study confirmed both effects: negative information about one’s agency increased aggressive tendencies (operationalized as a display of demeaning behavior) and decreased state self-esteem, while positive information about one’s communion resulted only in displaced aggression. The aggressive response to positive communal information is discussed as the success-as-aflaw effect, which we mean as inverse of the failure-as-an asset effect. According to the success-as-a-flaw effect, positive outcomes in the communal domain, considered by narcissists to be an evidence of low-status, are threatening for the grandiose self, based on the domain of agency. The social cognitive and clinical approach is employed to interpret these results.

The scale of interregional inequality of employment conditions for internally displaced persons (IDP), in particular, according to the basic indicators of the block «Decent work» of the index of regional human development is determined. The manifestations of the irregularity of placement of internally displaced persons in the regional cut are analyzed. This problem complicates the implementation of the employment policy concerning IDP’s needs. The experience of solving the IDP’s problems connected with their irregular placement, their employment, the balancing of the labor market on the basis of equalization of the dynamic equilibrium of interregional conditions of access to stable employment is generalized. The recommendations for the equalization of interregional conditions of IDP’s employment, which are necessary for deepening of the social dialogue in the field of labor relations, are substantiated.

The purpose of this essay is to present the impact of the Russian – Ukrainian confl ict on the situation of people living inside the area of military operations in the east of Ukraine. The key issue is to highlight the predicament of Internally Displaced Persons, the scale and geography of the phenomenon of forced internal migration, as well as actions taken by the Ukrainian authorities and international organisations towards resolution of the problem of IDPs. According to the latest data, in Ukraine there are over 1,7 million people who had registered as internally displaced. However, in total over 2 million people had to abandon their homesteads. Many of the aforementioned persons live in extraordinarily harsh conditions, and since majority of those are elderly and ailing, they are highly reliant on the help of others.

Opis:
The relocation of thousands of Polish refugees in East Africa in 1942 required a considerable effort to set up institutions capable of providing social and political care upon their arrival from Iran. Th e aim of this article is to give some insights into the tremendous task performed by the Polish officials to establish an effective administration in various British territories in Africa. Due to severe shortages of appropriate cadres the governmental agencies in refugee settlements and in Nairobi were understaffed and plagued by conflicts. The erosion of credibility of the Polish Government-in-Exile aft er the Yalta conference led to the gradual marginalization by the British of the refugees’ institutions in Africa. Nevertheless, the Polish administration in Africa survived the end of the war in 1945 and its structures functioned until the departure of the majority of Poles between 1948 and 1950.

Opis:
A less known variety of Polish in Pripyat River basin and Vitebsk regionIn Belorussian Polesia in the basin of the Pripyat River as well as in Vitebsk and Mogilev regions, there are numerous villages inhabited by Polish people displaced from Mazovia and northern Little Poland. What is characteristic for this community is that they have preserved many features of the Mazovian variety of Polish, especially phonetic ones. In spite of the long-lasting and close contacts with East-Slavonic people of Polesia, and since 1939 with Russian and Belorussian languages (official languages, administration, education), features of their dialects have not been eliminated completely. The greatest changes took place in the lexis. Names for new objects and phenomena have appeared, some old names have co-existed with borrowings from Belorussian and Russian; a number old names have disappeared altogether. Apart from the lexical changes, some new borrowed syntactic constructions have emerged. Compared to the Polish language of the Northern Borderland, the Polesia variety of Polish is substantially different. In Polesia, Polish exhibits a number of Ukrainian features taken from the local East-Slavonic dialects, where the features of the Ukrai310 Iryda Grek-Pabisowa nian dialect dominate. In the vicinity Vitebsk and Mogilev, it has been influenced by various dialects of Belorussian as well as standard Belorussian and Russian.

Many of Canada’s aging immigrants were displaced persons in Europe post-WWII and have internalized psychological effects of their traumatic past within a society that tends to marginalize or pathologize them. While early collective trauma literature focuses on individualized, psychotherapeutic approaches, more recent literature demonstrates the importance of externalizing and contextualizing trauma and fostering validating dialogue within families and community systems to facilitate transformation on many levels. My research is an autoethnographic exploration of lifespan and intergenerational effects of trauma perceived by Russian Mennonite women who fled Stalinist Russia to Germany during WWII and migrated to Winnipeg, Canada, and adult sons or daughters of this  generation of women. Sixteen individual life narratives, including my own, generated a collective narrative for each generation. Most participants lost male family members during Stalin’s Great Terror, verschleppt, or disappeared in a vehicle dubbed the Black Raven. Survivors tended to privilege stories of resilience – marginalizing emotions and mental weakness. The signature story of many adult children involved their mother’s resilience, suppressed psychological issues, and emotional unavailability. Results underline the importance of narrative exchange that validates marginalized storylines and promotes individual, intergenerational, and cultural story reconstruction within safe social and/or professional environments, thus supporting healthy attachments.

Aim. The ability to regulate emotions depends on many factors, but for displaced persons, the satisfaction of basic needs is likely to be among the most important. Therefore, this study aimed at determining the degree of basic needs satisfaction and their relationship with indicators of emotion regulation in parents displaced within Ukraine and abroad due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Methods. The study sample comprised of parents (98% of whom were mothers), aged 18-55, who fled the war from 23 different regions of Ukraine to the safer Ukrainian regions (N = 99) or abroad (N = 241). Participants answered questions about their demographics, basic needs satisfaction, and emotion regulation. Results. There was no significant difference between parents displaced in Ukraine or abroad in access to basic resources, conditions of accommodation, medical care and emotional support, but parents abroad had better access to employment and education of their children. Parents in both groups had positive (refocused on planning, put the situation into perspective) and negative (rumination) strategies of emotion regulation. Parents who had higher level of their basic needs’ satisfaction, scored higher on positive emotion regulation strategies and were less likely to experience emotion regulation difficulties. Conclusion. Basic needs satisfaction can be considered an important protective factor for displaced persons’ emotional regulation. The obtained results allowed drawing of conclusions only about people who were able to participate in the study. The problem of access to a broader target population is discussed.

Opis:
The article analyses the problems of political adaptation of Ukrainians. Military conflict in the East of Ukraine, annexation of the Crimea, socioeconomic crisis, distrust to power institutions have all caused a number of issues associated with the internally displaced people. Political adaptive relations in the society are viewed as processes of identification in which a person identifies him\herself with certain aims and political values. The main problem, which internally displaced people face, include access to social services, having a constant place of residence and registering at the new place of residence. Such citizens receive help through oblast administrations and NGOs. As practice shows, the actions of the authorities regarding the problems of internally displaced people are mostly of a declarative nature. However, in addition to social and psychological, political adaptation is also important as it facilitates the integration of a society and its development. Factors that influence the political adaptation of internally displaced people in the modern Ukrainian society have been identified. 1. The set system of relations between a person and the state is ruined due to state institution crisis and power decentralization. 2. The possibilities for political activity of individuals as well as social groups in the course of exercising their rights and satisfying their interests are widened. 3. Activation of non-governmental institutions facilitates the organized citizen participation in the political process, which facilitates the popularization of an active public opinion. 4. Peculiarities of the work of political actors, their reputation, level of responsibility and efficiency. 5. Social environment of a person, level of his/her education and political culture. 6. Mass media, which popularize certain patterns of political behavior, manipulate consciousness, impose stereotypes etc. The author notes that internally displaced people are limited in their rights and freedoms in comparison with the rest of the population (deprivation of the right to vote, discriminative control of their place of residence, limitations as to the choice of a banking institution for receiving pensions and social support etc.). internally displaced people actually have no right to participate in solving local issues, despite the fact that this right is guaranteed by the Constitution of Ukraine. By this we mean participation in public hearings, local initiatives, general assembly of the community. In addition, internally displaced people cannot participate in establishment of bodies of population self-organization, which is one of the important forms of participation of territorial community members in solving local issues. There is an ambiguous attitude towards the IDPs from the East of Ukraine – compassion mixed with apprehension. On the one hand, local authorities wish to provide maximum possible help for the internally displaced people. At the same time, there is a growing tension in the relations due to the increasing number of citizens who died in the zone of the conflict. One of the key problems that hinders the adaptation of IDPs is the absence of a common national program concerning the internally displaces people as well as of a body that would be directly responsible for dealing with the issues of IDPs. Consequently, displaced people cannot trust state institutions, may perceive the political system as an enemy that does not facilitate their socialization. The process of political adaptation of internally displaced people to the change of political space has certain peculiar features. 1. Social disorientation is caused by the deformation of the socioeconomic system of a society and is a consequence of destruction of social links, statuses and roles, the system of political norms, behavioral ideals. 2. New social identification happens through establishment of new social identities and entering the institutional structure of a society. 3. Collective political participation is carried out through citizen associations, influence on making important political decisions is made at the level of non-governmental institutions. 4. Tolerance to value foundations of a democratic society is being established.

displaced memory
Opis:
Today’s studies on memory encourage multidirectional memory, which assumes the transdisciplinary perspective and permits new understanding of texts which address traumatic events of the previous century. This is so in the case of Evelyne Pollet (1905-2005). Her largely autobiographical novel Grandes vacances en Angleterre (1945) is a record of a Belgian refugee family’s stay in Great Britain during World War One. This would not be particularly interesting if it had not been for the fact that the author does it near the end of the second global conflict. Her return to the events of 1914 1918 is not coincidental. Pollet purposefully turns the reader’s attention away from the inglorious chapters of her biography, her close ties with the collaborators’ literary milieu, and her intensive editorial work during the occupation. Grandes vacances en Angleterre is an example of instrumental approach to the type of memory referred to ‘displaced memory’.

The first part of the article investigates difficulties with providing a definition of environmental migrants. Next, it examines different projects of international regulations and approaches. In the final section the author analyses the key issues of environmentally induced migration, namely: environmental factors, including slow and sudden onset events, characteristics of the movement, with focus on forced and cross-border migration and the appropriate terminology (migrant or refugee).

This article focuses on interethnic relationship in a diaspora situation within a multicultural society. Using the example of the relationship between Polish and Ukrainian immigrants in the United States author try to provide an answer to the question whether and to what extent are the interethnic relations transferred into a diaspora situation? In the analysis particular attention is focused on the macro and microsocial determinants of mutual relationships as well as on the various elements of interethnic relations, including: spheres of cooperation, conflict areas, daily interactions, ethnic distance, mutual perceptions and spatial relations. The major descriptive and the basic definition term is „displaced borderland”. This concept is based on the assumption that the contacts and relations between these groups are very often determined by the European heritage.
