A problem (P) of minimization of the duration time of the measurements of automatic telecommunication channels is considered. P is a discrete optimization problem solved by graph theory methods. It is defined by (i)-(v), where: (i) for each i, 1≤i≤p, and j, 1≤1≤p, there are given k ij channels to be measured between node ”i” and node ”j”; (ii) measurement of one channel lasts one unit; (iii) there are exactly two devices, say A, B, in each node (the case where there is an arbitrary number of devices A, B in each node may be easily reduced to this case); (iv) the channel between node ”i” and node ”j” may be measured only by use of device A being present in node ”i” and device B in node ”j”; (v) in each time both devices A or B may measure only one channel. To solve P, some knowledge of hypergraphs as well as functional analysis (the Krein-Milman theorem) and linear algebra (the Koenig theorem) is necessary. The Koenig theorem is proved in a simple manner similarly as the dual Koenig theorem (which is a new result). As corollaries the Birkhoff theorem about bistochastic matrices and the dual Birkhoff theorem are deduced.

In the paper, a stochastic system with many sources of disturbances is considered. These disturbances have distributions belonging to the exponential family with some unknown parameters. Moreover, it is assumed that a control is disturbed too. A horizon of control is a random variable with a known distribution. Under some additional assumptions the problem of Bayes and minimax control of such system is solved.

The quadratic performance index in a fixed rectangle for the Roesser model of two-dimensional, linear, stationary, discrete systems is considered. The adaptive version of the discrete time-varying linear quadratic control is considered under the assumption that the coefficients have limits as time tends to infinity sufficiently fast in certain sense and the limiting system is observable and stabilizable. It is proved that time invariant LS estimator can be used to estimate the limits of the coefficients and that it is strongly consistent under some conditions well known from the time invariant case. The estimator of the parameters is used to define an adaptive control law and it is shown that the control law is optimal.

A reaching law approach to the design of discrete-time quasi-sliding mode control systems is considered. First the required position of the system representative point with reference to the sliding plane is specified, and then novel control strategies, which drive the system in such a way that the position actually changes according to the specification, are proposed. The strategies are linear and consequently the undesirable chattering and high-frequency switching between different values of the control signal are avoided. Furthermore, the state of the controlled system is driven to the narrowest possible band around the sliding plane. The strategies, when compared with previously published results, are simpler and they guarantee favourable performance of the controlled systems while using essentially reduced control effort.

First, we consider non-linear discrete-time and continuous-time systems with unknown inputs. The problem of reconstructing an input using the information given by an output equation is investigated. Then we examine a control problem for non-linear discrete-time hereditary systems, i.e. the problem of finding a control which drives the state of the system from its initial value to a given desired final state. The methods used to solve these problems are based on the state-space technique and fixed-point theorems. To illustrate the outlined ideas, various numerical simulation results are presented.

Opis:
A geometric interpretation of invariant zeros of MIMO LTI discrete-time systems is provided. The zeros are treated as the triples: complex number, state zero direction, input zero direction. Such a treatment is strictly connected with the output zeroing problem and in that spirit the zeros can be easily interpreted even in the degenerate case (i.e. when each complex number constitutes an invariant zero). Simply, in the degenerate case, to each complex number we can assign an appropriate real initial condition and an appropriate real input sequence which produce a non-trivial solution to the state equation and a zero system response. Clearly, when zeros are treated merely as complex numbers, such an interpretation is impossible. The proposed definition of invariant zeros is compared with other commonly known definitions. It is shown that each Smith zero of the system matrix is also an invariant zero in the sense of the definition adopted in the paper. On the other hand, simple numerical examples show that the considered definition of invariant zeros and the Davison-Wang definition are not comparable. The output-zeroing problem for systems decouplable by state feedback is also described.

With reference to the work of Verriest and Lewis (1991) on continuous finite-dimensional systems, the linear quadratic minimum-time problem is considered for discrete distributed systems and discrete distributed time delay systems. We treat the problem in two variants, with fixed and free end points. We consider a cost functional J which includes time, energy and precision terms, and then we investigate the optimal pair (N,u) which minimizes J.

It is shown that under some specific conditions, the solution of the generalised predictive control (GPC) design using the concept of anticipated filtering (AF) of the control error always exists, and that such a design leads to stable control systems with definite closed-loop characteristics. The plant cancellation issue is taken into account, and it is demonstrated that certain bounds on GPC design parameters have to be considered. An iterative procedure for simultaneous determination of the three basic design-tuning parameters: the control horizon, the controller gain, and the order of plant cancellation, is also supplied. An important feature of this approach is that the anticipated filtering makes it possible to reduce a disagreeable control effort associated with GPC and to make the [lambda]-tuning mechanism practicable. The bounds on the GPC design parameters are discussed, and certain optimal tuning rules are proposed and validated via simulated experiments.

Opis:
An approach to the numerically reliable synthesis of the H[infinity] suboptimal state estimators for discretised continuous-time processes is presented. The approach is based on suitable dual J-lossless factorisations of chain-scattering representations of estimated processes. It is demonstrated that for a sufficiently small sampling period the standard forward shift operator techniques may become ill-conditioned and numerical robustness of the design procedures can be significantly improved by employing the so-called delta operator models of the process. State-space models of all H[infinity] sub-optimal estimators are obtained by considering the suitable delta-domain algebraic Riccati equation and the corresponding generalised eigenproblem formulation. A relative condition number of this equation is used as a measure of its numerical conditioning. Both regular problems concerning models having no zeros on the boundary of the delta-domain stability region and irregular (non-standard) problems of models with such zeros are examined. For the first case, an approach based on a dual J-lossless factorisation is proposed while in the second case an extended dual J-lossless factorisation based on a zero compensator technique s required. Two numerical examples are given to illustrate some properties of the considered delta-domain approach.

In this paper necessary and sufficient conditions (and criteria) for null-controllability, reachability and controllability of time-variant discrete-time positive linear systems are established. These properties appear to be entirely structural properties, that is, they do depend on the zero-nonzero pattern of the pair (A(k), B[k)) > 0 and do not depend on the values of its entries. An interesting phenomenon has been revealed namely the time needed to reach the origin for a null-controllable system as well as the time to reach a (non-negative) state from the origin for a reachable system can be less, equal or greater than the dimension of the system. This phenomenon has no equivalent in the case of time-invariant discrete-time positive linear systems where this time is always less or equal to the system dimension. Examples are provided.
