In the presence of white Gaussian noises at the input and the output of a system Kalman filters provide a minimum-variance state estimate. When part of the measurements can be regarded as noise-free, the order of the filter is reduced. The filter design can be carried out both in the time domain and in the frequency domain. In the case of full-order filters all measurements are corrupted by noise and therefore the design equations are regular. In the presence of noise-free measurements, however, they are not regular so that standard software cannot readily be applied in a time-domain design. In the frequency domain the spectral factorization of the non-regular polynomial matrix equation causes no problems. However, the known proof of optimality of the factorization result requires a regular measurement covariance matrix. This paper presents regular (reduced-order) design equations for the reduced-order discrete-time Kalman filter in the time and in the frequency domains so that standard software is applicable. They also allow to formulate the conditions for the stability of the filter and to prove the optimality of the existing solutions.

Opis:
An overview of some recent published and unpublished results on positive fractional continuous-time and discrete-time linear systems is given. The first part of the paper is devoted to the positive continuous-time fractional systems. For those systems the solutions to the fractional state equations are proposed. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the positivity, reachability and stability are established. In the second part similar problems are considered for positive discrete-time fractional systems.
W pracy dokonano syntetycznego przeglądu nowych publikowanych i niepublikowanych wyników dotyczących dodatnich ciągłych i dyskretnych układów liniowych niecałkowitego rzędu. W części pierwszej poświęconej układom ciągłym podano rozwiązanie układu równań stanu, warunki konieczne i wystarczające dodatniości, osiągalności i stabilności układów dodatnich. W części drugiej przedstawiono podobne wyniki dla układów dyskretnych.

W pracy rozpatruje się zadanie sterowania optymalnego dla modelu 2-D przy nieliniowym wskaźniku jakości, przy ograniczeniach na wektory stanu i sterowania. W oparciu o Twierdzenie Podstawowe programowania matematycznego formułuje się warunki konieczne dla tego zadania. Idee zawarte w tej pracy wykorzystywane już były w artykułach [1], [3] przy nieco innych modelach i bez warunków ograniczających.
In this paper a optimal, nonlinear problem for general two-dimensional, stationary, discrete systems is presented. The state and control vectors are subject to restrictions in this optimal problem. Using a method of transformation for the system and the performance index, the problem of finding the optimal sequence of control vectors is solved by a method of ma-thematical programming. The necessary conditions are formulated. The simple numerical example illustrates the presented method.

In this paper, we refer to two definitions of fading memory property, which were published in the literature, for discrete-time circuits and systems. One of these definitions relates to systems working with signals (sequences) defined for both the positive and negative integers, expanding from minus infinity to plus infinity. On the other hand, the second one refers to systems processing sequences defined only for nonnegative integers, that is starting at the discrete-time point equal to zero and expanding to plus infinity. We show here that the second definition follows from the first one. That is they are not independent. Moreover, we also show that if an operator describing a system possesses a fading memory according to the second definition, then its associated operator has this property, too, but in accordance with the first definition.

At the end of the 19th century Liouville and Riemann introduced the notion of a fractional-order derivative, and in the latter half of the 20th century the concept of the so-called Grünewald-Letnikov fractional-order discrete difference has been put forward. In the paper a predictive controller for MIMO fractional-order discrete-time systems is proposed, and then the concept is extended to nonlinear processes that can be modelled by Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy models. At first nonlinear and linear fractional-order discrete-time dynamical models are described. Then a generalized nonlinear fractional-order TS fuzzy model is defined, for which equations of a predictive controller are derived.

A new class of positive continuous-discrete time linear systems with delays in state vector is addressed. Three state space model of this class of linear systems are considered. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the positivity of continuous-discrete time systems with delays in state vector are established. The proper transfer matrix of this class of linear systems is given.
Zaprezentowana zostanie nowa klasa dodatnich układów ciągło-dyskretnych z opóźnieniem w wektorze stanu. Rozpatrzone zostaną trzy modele opisujące tę klasę układów w przestrzeni stanu. Podane zostaną warunki konieczne i wystarczające dodatniości liniowych układów ciągło-dyskretnych z opóźnieniem w wektorze stanu. Podana zostanie postać operatorowej macierzy transmitancji właściwych rozpatrywanej klasy układów.

Opis:
A reaching law approach to the design of discrete-time quasi-sliding mode control systems is considered. First the required position of the system representative point with reference to the sliding plane is specified, and then novel control strategies, which drive the system in such a way that the position actually changes according to the specification, are proposed. The strategies are linear and consequently the undesirable chattering and high-frequency switching between different values of the control signal are avoided. Furthermore, the state of the controlled system is driven to the narrowest possible band around the sliding plane. The strategies, when compared with previously published results, are simpler and they guarantee favourable performance of the controlled systems while using essentially reduced control effort.

The paper proposes a novel method for feedback stability evaluation for linear time-varying, discrete-time control systems. It is assumed that the time-varying system can be described by the general discrete-time, time-varying state space model and by the equivalent linear input-output (transfer) operator. The method extends feedback stability concepts for systems given in a general linear time-varying, discrete-time form, not only in the Lurie form. In the paper selected short-time stability concepts are employed for inference about feedback stability of systems defined on an infinite time-horizon. Theoretical considerations are complemented by numerical examples.

Opis:
Controlling mechanical systems with position and velocity cascade loops is one of the most effective methods to operate this type of systems. However, when using low-rate sampling electronics, the implementation is not trivial and the resulting performance can be poor. This paper proposes effective tuning rules that only require establishing the bandwidth of the inner velocity loop and an estimation of the inertia of the mechanism. Since discrete-time mechatronic systems can also exhibit unstable behavior, several stability conditions are also derived. By using the proposed methodology, a P-PI control algorithm is developed for a desktop haptic device, obtaining good experimental performance with low sampling-rate electronics.

The paper addresses the problem of reducibility of nonlinear discrete-time systems, described by implicit higher order difference equations where no a priori distinction is made between input and output variables. The reducibility definition is based on the concept of autonomous element. We prove necessary reducibility condition, presented in terms of the left submodule, generated by the row matrix, describing the behavior of the linearized system, over the ring of left difference polynomials. Then the reducibility of the system implies the closedness of the submodule, like in the linear time-invariant case. In the special case, when the variables may be specified as inputs and outputs and the system equations are Niven in the explicit form, the results of this paper yield the known results.

The optimization problem for fractional discrete-time systems with a quadratic performance index has been formulated and solved. The case of fixed final time and a free final state has been considered. A method for numerical computation of optimization problems has been presented. The presented method is a generalization of the well-known method for discrete-time systems of integer order. The efficiency of the method has been demonstrated on numerical examples and illustrated by graphs. Graphs also show the differences between the fractional and classical (standard) systems theory. Results for other cases of the fractional system order (coefficient ) and not illustrated with numerical examples have been obtained through a computer algorithm written for this purpose.

Opis:
Reduction of singular fractional systems to standard fractional systems and decomposition of singular fractional discrete-time linear systems into dynamic and static parts are addressed. It is shown that if the pencil of singular fractional linear discrete-time system is regular then the singular system can be reduced to standard one and it can be decomposed into dynamic and static parts The proposed procedures are based on modified version of the shuffle algorithm and illustrated by numerical examples.

Affine discrete-time control periodic systems are considered. The problem of global asymptotic stabilization of the zero equilibrium of the closed-loop system by state feedback is studied. It is assumed that the free dynamic system has the Lyapunov stable zero equilibrium. The method for constructing a damping control is extended from time-invariant systems to time varying periodic affine discrete-time systems. By using this approach, sufficient conditions for uniform global asymptotic stabilization for those systems are obtained. Examples of using the obtained results are presented.

The paper concerns an application of regulation theory methods to modeling and effective control of connection-oriented data transmission networks. In particular the problem of congestion control in a single virtual circuit of such a network is considered and new discrete-time sliding mode data flow rate controllers are proposed. The controllers are designed in such a way that packet losses are explicitly accounted for. The closed-loop system stability and finitetime error convergence are proved. Moreover, a number of favorable properties of the proposed controllers are stated as theorems, formally proved and verified in a simulation example. It is demonstrated that the proposed controllers guarantee full utilization of the available bandwidth and eliminates the risk of bottleneck node buffer overflow. Application of time-varying sliding hyperplanes helps avoid excessive transmission rates at the beginning of the control process.

In this paper, a passivity-based optimal controlmethod for a broad class of nonlinear discrete-time systems is proposed. The resulting control law is a static output feedback law which is practically preferred with respect to the state feedback law and is simple to implement. The control law has a general structure with adjustable parameters which are tuned, using an optimization method (genetic algorithm), to minimize an arbitrary cost function. By choosing this cost function it is possible to shape the transient response of the closed-loop system, as it is desirable. An illustrative ex ample shows the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Necessary and sufficient conditions for [...]-observability are formulated and proved. A simple method for computing the initial condition is proposed. Considerations are illustrated by numerical examples.

Consider the linear discrete-time fractional order systems with uncertainty on the initial state {Δαxi+1=Axi+Bui, i≥0x0=τ0+τ̂0∈Rn, τ̂0∈Ωyi=Cxi, i≥0}, where A,B and C are appropriate matrices, x0 is the initial state, yi is the signal output, α the order of the derivative, τ0 and τ̂0 are the known and unknown part of x0, respectively, ui=Kxi is feedback control and Ω⊂Rn is a polytope convex of vertices w1,w2,...,wp. According to the Krein–Milman theorem, we suppose that τ̂0=Σ pj=1αjwj for some unknown coefficients α1≥0,...,αp≥0 such that Σ pj=1αj=1. In this paper, the fractional derivative is defined in the Grünwald–Letnikov sense. We investigate the charac-terisation of the set χ(τ̂0,ϵ) of all possible gain matrix K that makes the system insensitive to the unknown part τ̂0, which means χ(τ̂0,ϵ)={K∈Rm×n / ∥∂yi∂αj∥≤ϵ, ∀j=1,...,p,∀i≥0}, where the inequality ∥∂yi∂αj∥≤ϵ showing the sensitivity of yi relative-ly to uncertainties {αj}j=1p will not achieve the specified threshold ϵ>0. We establish, under certain hypothesis, the finite determination of χ(τ̂0,ϵ) and we propose an algorithmic approach to made explicit characterisation of such set.

The paper gives a basis for solving many problems of numerically reliable synthesis of sub-optimal discrete-time control in Η∞. The approach is based on J-lossless factorisations of the delta-domain chain-scattering descriptions of continuous-time plants being controlled. Relevant properties of poles and zeros of chain-scattering models are given. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of stabilising J-lossless conjugators are presented and discussed. Some aspects of numerical conditioning of synthesis of such conjugators are considered. A numerical example illustrating synthesis of stabilising right J-lossless conjugators is also included.
