‘Edictum Domitiani de Privilegiis Veteranorum’: The Emperor Domitian’s Edict on Veterans’ PrivilegesSummaryThis article contains the text and translation of the Edictum Domitiani on veterans’ privileges with a commentary. This edict is an interesting illustration of imperial military and social policy on the privileges of veterans and their families. Its text survives thanks to a private copy made by Marcus Valerius Quadratus, a discharged soldier of the legio X Fretensis. The privileges granted by the Emperor Domitian guaranteed benefits also found in other veterans’ concessions (as the diplomata militaria shows) – citizenship, tax exemption, conubium with a peregrine woman. But the personal scope of Domitian’s privileges is unusual – its beneficiaries were not only veterans and their children, but also their wives and parents (if they lived with the soldier after his discharge). The full range of privileges is unknown; unfortunately Valerius’ copy is partly damaged. The authors also discuss some of the doubts concerning the edict’s addressees and types of privileges granted under this edict.

Ukończenie studiów i uzyskanie tytułu zawodowego (licencjata, inżyniera, magistra) związane jest z koniecznością stworzenia pracy dyplomowej. W literaturze metodologicznej można spotkać wiele rodzajów prac dyplomowych. Najczęściej podaje się następujący podział: prace o charakterze teoretycznym (oceniające praktykę w świetle literatury i monograficzne), prace o charakterze aplikacyjnym, prace o charakterze projektowym i prace o charakterze badawczym. Celem publikacji jest przedstawienie przygotowania koncepcji badań w pracach dyplomowych o charakterze badawczym. W pierwszym rozdziale przedstawiono etapy fazy koncepcyjnej procesu badawczego. W następnych omówiono po kolei wszystkie fazy: wybór tematu pracy (przedmiotu badań); określenie celów badań; sformułowanie problemów badawczych i/ewentualnie hipotez; wyłonienie zmiennych, ich wskaźników i kategorii (jeśli prowadzimy badania ilościowe); wybór metod, technik i narzędzi badawczych. W zakończeniu przedstawiono przykład koncepcji badań, którą student powinien oddać promotorowi do oceny przed podjęciem dalszych etapów tworzenia pracy dyplomowej (przygotowanie narzędzi badawczych, przeprowadzenie badań, opracowanie materiału badawczego i redagowanie tekstu pracy dyplomowej).
Graduation and completion a university degree (Bachelor Degree, Engineer’s degree, Master Degree) is connected with writing a diploma thesis. There are different kind of diploma thesis in methodological literature. Most frequently they are divided into several types: theoretical diploma thesis, applied diploma thesis, project diploma thesis and research diploma thesis. The objective of this publication is preparation of a concept for research diploma thesis. In the first of this article author shows stages of research process in preparation phase. In the second part of the analysis every step was discussed: the choice of theme (subject of research); the aims of the work, the wording of the research problem or hypothesis, show different variables and categories(if we perform a quantitative research); the choice of methods, research techniques and research tools. In conclusion the example of such concept of research is shown. The student should give this kind of document to the promoter before starting another stages: preparing research tools, conducting research, development research material and text editing).

The issue that we aim to investigate in this paper is related to the design of lexical resources which Polish university students use in the process of writing an academic text in French. In the course of the research, we concentrate on the transdisciplinary lexis composed of, on the one hand, cross-disciplinary terminology typical of scientific writings, and, on the other hand, of abstract, non-specialised vocabulary. In this regard, special focus is given to transdisciplinary collocations referring to scientific objects and procedures. The research is conducted on a corpus consisting of BA and MA theses written by Polish university students of French in Romance philology and applied linguistics faculties.The work progressed as follows. Firstly, the types of transdisciplinary collocations present in students’ theses were identified. They were then juxtaposed with the lexical resources gathered in the corpus of scientific texts in French (Corpus Écrits scientifiques en français). Finally, the manner in which students used the investigated collocations was analysed so as to identify the possible difficulties faced by non-native students of French. The objectives of this research are linguistic and didactic at the same time. Specifically, it aims to inventorystudents’ lexical resources, their scope and, as a result, to consider pedagogical solutions intended to enrich transdisciplinary vocabulary used in the process of writing scientific texts in university context. The analysis performed shows a weak presence of collocations containing scientific names. The students’ repertoire of lexical resources is relatively poor and not very varied. It is necessary to undertake more indepth work on the linguistic correction of the items mobilized.

The aim of the article is to indicate the criteria for hiring in the current neoliberal society and the requirements of modern employers towards people applying for employment. The text discusses the main assumptions of neoliberal ideology in the context of the functioning of individuals in the labor market and their careers. The notions of academic diploma inflation and overeducation are also defined. The article indicates that today in many cases formal qualifications are an absolute minimum in the recruitment process, and for employers, apart from formal credentials, crucial are the behavioural and personality aspects of potential candidates.

The problem of improving the qualifications of librarians in university libraries has emerged after changes in higher education legislation, including the profession of librarian and lowering the rank of diploma (academic) librarian. The academic, pedagogical and organizational achievements of librarians till 2013 demonstrate the need for intensive and continuous upgrading of the qualifications of a diploma librarian.

The paper is a reflection on the development of academic literacy skills in French and Polish while writing a diploma paper in glottodidactics by Polish third year ethnolinguistics students. The first part of the paper focuses on a diploma paper in glottodidactics as an important component of philological education at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Next, the author analyses the concept of epistemological consciousness and its impact on the development of student autonomy during the acquisition of glottodidactic discourse and glottodidactic knowledge as a specialist knowledge which they gain. The author’s conception, referring to writing research papers in line with the principles of glottodidactics as a research field, is based on the assumption that students should become aware of the epistemological specifics of glottodidactics and include them both in the form and the content of their diploma papers. Finally, the author discusses various stages in the development of students’ epistemological consciousness and looks into the processesthe supervisor needs to engage in for effective research supervision

Artykuł podejmuje problematykę programu matury międzynarodowej i jego obecności w polskich szkołach. W artykule zaprezentowano autorskie badania, w których wykorzystano  dane publikowane przez International Baccalaureate Organization. Zebrane dane pozwoliły na prześledzenie zasięgu oraz dostępności programów matury międzynarodowej zarówno pod względem kryterium finansowego, jak i rozmieszczenia szkół realizujących program IB DP. Dane o rosnącej liczbie szkół przystępujących do realizowania programów IB DP oraz zwiększającej się liczby uczniów przystępujących do matury międzynarodowej pozwoliły wyciągnąć wnioski na temat wzrastającej dostępności oferty edukacyjnej związanej z międzynarodowymi programami edukacyjnymi, a zwłaszcza programem matury międzynarodowej w Polsce.
This paper presents the issues of the international baccalaureate program and its presence in Polish schools. The article presents original research using data published by the International Baccalaureate Organization. The research was focused on tracing the range and availability of international baccalaureate programs,both in terms of financial criteria and the distribution of schools implementing the IB DP program in Poland. The collected data showed the growing number of schools joining the IB DP program and the increasing number of students enrolling in the international baccalaureate program. This observation allowed us to draw conclusions about the increasing availability of the educational offer related to international educational programs, especially the international baccalaureate program in Poland.

After many years of quest, Rev. Prof. Ryszard Kamiński’s publication is a welcome aid for the beginning as well as advanced theologians.

W artykule zaprezentowano całościową koncepcję kształcenia specjalistów w dziedzinie zarządzania jakością realizowaną na studiach podyplomowych „Zarządzanie jakością w przedsiębiorstwie”. Studia te są prowadzone corocznie od 1999 roku na Wydziale Organizacji i Zarządzania Politechniki Śląskiej i uczestniczyło w nich ponad 700 osób. Opierając się na szesnastu latach doświadczeń w kształceniu, zaprezentowano czynniki i uwarunkowania wpływające na przygotowanie specjalistów. Określono zagrożenia, które w obecnych czasach stoją przed studiami podyplomowymi.
In the work there is a total conception of educating the experts on quality management presented, conducted on the Post-Diploma Studies of “Quality Management in an Enterprise”. The studies have been carried out every year since 1999 at the Faculty of Organization and Management at the Silesian University of Technology and over 700 people participated in them. Basing on 16-year-experience in educating there are the factors and conditions presented that have influence on the preparation of experts. The threats were determined which the post-diploma studies have to face nowadays.

The text serves as an attempt to summarise the analysis of public discourse which is a part of the research project which considered value of higher academic education in collective consciousness in Polish society. In the analysis of the collected empirical material, methodological directives of qualitative discourse analysis were applied. Main problem presented in the article are topoi that occur both in social and media discourse. W pracy podjęto zagadnienie powstania nowych produktów geoturystycznych w granicach województwa świętokrzyskiego. Prace przygotowawcze prowadzące do ich zaprezentowania realizowali studenci kierunku geografia ze specjalnością geografia z turystyką oraz studenci kierunku turystyka i rekreacja na Uniwersytecie Jana Kochanowskiego w Kielcach, w ramach swoich prac dyplomowych. Z jednej strony byli oni zatem odpowiedzialni za transfer wiedzy, a z drugiej, rozbudzając zainteresowanie zasobami nieożywionymi w coraz szerszych kręgach potencjalnych konsumentów, pełnili funkcję trendsetterów.
The work involves the creation of new geotouristic products within the boundaries of świętokrzyskie province. The preparatory work leading to their presentation was carried out by geography students, who specialized in tourism, at Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, as part of their diploma thesis. On the one hand, therefore, the students were responsible for the transfer of knowledge, and, on the other, arousing interest in abiotic resources in the ever-widening range of potential consumers, they acted as trendsetters.

Opis:
W artykule przedstawiono charakterystykę działalności dydaktycznej Katedry Budowy Mostów i Tuneli Politechniki Krakowskiej w obszarze komunikacyjnego budownictwa podziemnego. Działalność ta została opisana na tle historycznych przemian strukturalnych Katedry Budowy Mostów i Tuneli od początku istnienia Politechniki Krakowskiej, tzn. od 1945 roku. Charakterystyka aktywności dydaktycznej obejmuje: tematykę i rodzaje zajęć, prace dyplomowe, wycieczki dydaktyczne, konferencje naukowo-dydaktyczne, wykorzystywane zasoby internetowe, przygotowane skrypty i wydawnictwa. Zwrócono uwagę na ciągłe podejmowanie wysiłków w kierunku profilowania problematyki dydaktycznej na aktualne potrzeby rynku inwestycyjnego w Polsce. Podkreślono potrzebę ustawicznego kształcenia w kontekście szybkiego rozwoju przedmiotowej dyscypliny. Wieloletnie wysiłki dydaktyczne Katedry w obszarze komunikacyjnego budownictwa podziemnego pozytywnie weryfikują osiągnięcia absolwentów działających zarówno w kraju jak i za granicą.
In this paper a characteristic of didactic activity of the Chair of Bridge and Tunnel Construction in the Cracow University of Technology in the field of transport underground construction is given. This activity has been described in the context of the history of the development of the Chair since the very beginning of CUT, it is since the year 1945. The characteristic includes: subjects and organizational framework of student lectures and classes, diploma works, didactic excursions, conferences devoted to didactic, usage of Internet for teaching purposes, edited lecture notes and other editorials. Emphasis is put on continuous efforts toward harmonizing the didactic process with needs of investment and construction marked in Poland. Also the need for permanent education resulting from rapid development of the underground construction industry is underlined. Long term didactic work of the Chair is positively verified by professional achievements of many Chair absolvents being active in Poland as well as abroad.
