In this article we apply an extension of a Leggett-Williams type fixed point theorem to a two-point boundary value problem for a 2n-th order ordinary differential equation. The fixed point theorem employs concave and convex functionals defined on a cone in a Banach space. Inequalities that extend the notion of concavity to 2n-th order differential inequalities are derived and employed to provide the necessary estimates. Symmetry is employed in the construction of the appropriate Banach space.

The purpose of this work is to analyze the blow-up of solutions of a nonlinear parabolic equation with a forcing term depending on both time and space variables $ u_t − Δu = |x|^α |u|^p + \text{a} (t) \text{w} (x)$ for $ (t, x) ∈ (0,∞) × \mathbb{R}^N $, where $ α ∈ \mathbb{R}, p > 1 $, and $ \text{a} (t) $ as well as $ \text{w} (x) $ are suitable given functions. We generalize and somehow improve earlier existing works by considering a wide class of forcing terms that includes the most common investigated example $ t^σ \text{w} (x) $ as a particular case. Using the test function method and some differential inequalities, we obtain sufficient criteria for the nonexistence of global weak solutions. This criterion mainly depends on the value of the limit $ lim_{t \to \infty} \frac{1}{t} \int_0^t \text{a} (s) ds $. The main novelty lies in our treatment of the nonstandard condition on the forcing term.

The paper deals with initial boundary value problems for nonlinear first order partial differential functional equations. A theorem on the uniqueness of generalized solutions is proved. It is based on a comparison result for functional differential inequalities in the Carathéodory sense. A theorem on generalized solutions of functional differential inequalities is presented.

Opis:
Consideration is given to three different analytical methods for the computation of upper bounds for the rate of convergence to the limiting regime of one specific class of (in)homogeneous continuous-time Markov chains. This class is particularly well suited to describe evolutions of the total number of customers in (in)homogeneous M/M/S queueing systems with possibly state-dependent arrival and service intensities, batch arrivals and services. One of the methods is based on the logarithmic norm of a linear operator function; the other two rely on Lyapunov functions and differential inequalities, respectively. Less restrictive conditions (compared with those known from the literature) under which the methods are applicable are being formulated. Two numerical examples are given. It is also shown that, for homogeneous birth-death Markov processes defined on a finite state space with all transition rates being positive, all methods yield the same sharp upper bound.

We consider the Cauchy problem for infinite system of differential functional equations $\partial_{t}z_{k}(t, x) = f_{k}(t, x, z, \partial_{x}z_{k}(t, x)), k \in \mathbf{N}$. In the paper we consider a general class of difference methods for this problem. We prove the convergence of methods under the assumptions that given functions satisfy the nonlinear estimates of the Perron type with respect to functional variables. The proof is based on functional difference inequalities. We constructed the Euler method as an example of difference method.

We prove that the holomorphic differential equation $\varphi^{\prime \prime}(\varphi+c) = \gamma(\varphi^{\prime})^{2} (\varphi:\mathbb{C}\rightarrow \mathbb{C}$ be a holomorphic function and $(\gamma, c) \in \mathbb{C}^{2})$ plays a classical role on many problems of real and complex convexity. The condition exactly $\gamma \in \{1, \frac{s-1}{s} \/ s \in \mathbb{N} \backslash \{0\}\}$ (independently of the constant c) is of great importance in this paper. On the other hand, let $n \geq 1, (A_{1}, A_{2}) \in \mathbb{C}^{2}$ and $g_{1}, g_{2} : \mathbb{C}^{n} \rightarrow \mathbb{C}$ be two analytic functions. Put $u(z, w) = \| A_{1}w - g_{1}(z) \|^{2} + \| A_{2}w - g_{2}(z) \| ^{2}v(z,w) = \| A_{1}w - \overline{g_{1}}(z) \| ^{2} + \| A_{2}w - \overline{g_{2}}(z) \|^{2}$, for $(z,w) \in \mathbb{C}^{n} \times \mathbb{C}$. We prove that $u$ is strictly plurisubharmonic and convex on $\mathbb{C}^{n} \times \mathbb{C}$ if and only if $n = 1, (A_{1}, A_{2}) \in \mathbb{C}^{2} \backslash \{0\}$ and the functions $g_{1}$ and $g_{2}$ have a classical representation form described in the present paper. Now $v$ is convex and strictly psh on $\mathbb{C}^{n} \times \mathbb{C}$ if and only if $(A_{1}, A_{2}) \in \mathbb{C}^{2} \backslash \{0\}, n \in \{1,2\}$ and and $g_{1}, g_{2}$ have several representations investigated in this paper.
