Let \(X\) be a Banach space. Let \(f(\cdot)\) be a real valued function defined on an open convex set \(\Omega \subset X^*\), where \(X^*\) as usual denote the conjugate space. We say that the function \(f(\cdot)\) is \(X$\)convex, if there is a set \(\Phi_f \subset X\) such that $$ f(x^*)= sup_{x \in \Phi_f, r \in \R} x^*(x)+r. \eqno{(1)}$$ In the paper it will be shown that if \(X\) is separable, then the function \(f(\cdot)\) is Frechet differentiable on a dense \(G_{\delta}\) set.

Let (X,d) be a metric space. Let Φ be a linear family of real-valued functions defined on X. Let $Γ: X → 2^{Φ}$ be a maximal cyclic α(·)-monotone multifunction with non-empty values. We give a sufficient condition on α(·) and Φ for the following generalization of the Rockafellar theorem to hold. There is a function f on X, weakly Φ-convex with modulus α(·), such that Γ is the weak Φ-subdifferential of f with modulus α(·), $Γ(x)=∂^{-α}_{Φ}f|_{x}$.

Let (X,d) be a metric space. Let Φ be a family of real-valued functions defined on X. Sufficient conditions are given for an α(·)-monotone multifunction $Γ: X → 2^Φ$ to be single-valued and continuous on a weakly angle-small set. As an application it is shown that a γ-paraconvex function defined on an open convex subset of a Banach space having separable dual is Fréchet differentiable on a residual set.

In this paper, we consider the problem of locating coated inclusions in a 2D dimensional conductor material in order to obtain a suitable thermal environment. The mathematical model is described by elliptic partial differential equation with linear boundary condition, including heat transfer coefficient. A shape optimization problem is formulated by introducing a cost functional to solve the problem under consideration. The shape sensitivity analysis is rigorously performed for the problem by means of a Lagrangian formulation. The optimization problem is solved by means of gradient-based strategy and numerical experiments are carried out to demonstrate the feasibility of the approach.

Robust estimation presented in the following paper is based on Fisher consistent and Fréchet differentiable statistical functionals. The method has been used in the multivariate normal model with variance components [5]. To transfer the method to estimate vector of expectations and positive definite covariance matrix of the multivariate normal model it is required to express the covariance matrix as a linear combination of basic elements of the vector space of real, square and symmetric matrices. The theoretical results have been completed with computer simulation studies. The robust estimator has been investigated both for model and contaminated data. Comparison with the maximum likelihood estimator has also been included.

Let σ(·) be a differentiable mapping of ΩX into ΩY such that the differentials of σ/x are locally uniformly continuous function of x. Then f(σ(·)) mapping X into Z is also a locally uniformly approximate convex function. Therefore, in the case of Z = Rn the composed function f(σ(·)) is Frechet differentiable on a dense Gδ-set, provided X is an Asplund space, and Gateaux differentiable on a dense Gδ-set, provided X is separable. As a consequence, we obtain that in the case of Z = Rn a locally uniformly approximate convex function defined on a C1,uE -manifold is Frechet differentiable on a dense Gδ-set, provided E is an Asplund space, and Gateaux differentiable on a dense Gδ-set, provided E is separable.

A generalized Cauchy problem for quasilinear hyperbolic functional differential systems is considered. A theorem on the local existence of weak solutions is proved. The initial problem is transformed into a system of functional integral equations for an unknown function and for their partial derivatives with respect to spatial variables. The existence of solutions for this system is proved by using a method of successive approximations. We show a theorem on the differentiability of solutions with respect to initial functions which is the main result of the paper.

Let X be a finite dimensional real Banach space. We show that if the contingent of the curve Γ : (a, b) → X fulfils some conditions then each parametrization of that curve is V BG * . Stanisław Saks proved that each V BG * function is differentiable at a set of full Lebesgue measure. The result of this paper is a partial converse of that theorem.

For any pair E,F of pseudotopological vector spaces, we endow the space L(E,F) of all continuous linear operators from E into F with a pseudotopology such that, if G is a pseudotopological space, then the mapping L(E,F) × L(F,G) ∋ (f,g) → gf ∈ L(E,G) is continuous. We use this pseudotopology to establish a result about differentiability of certain operator-valued functions related with strongly continuous one-parameter semigroups in Banach spaces, to characterize von Neumann algebras, and to establish a result about integration of Lie algebra representations.
