Opis:
Six parents and their 15 F2 diallel progenies, totally 21 genotypes, were evaluated for genetic parameters of quantitative characteristics. The traits of interest were growing degree days (GDDs) from sowing to the flowering (DDF), to end of flowering (DDE), flowering period (DFP), to maturity (DDM) and seed yield (SY). Significant mean squares of general combining ability (GCA) was exhibited for DDF, DDE, DFP, DDM and seed yield indicating significant differences of GCA effects of parents for these traits. Significant mean squares of specific combining ability (SCA) for all the traits exhibited the importance of non additive genetic effects for the traits. Significant ratio of MS(GCA)/MS(SCA) and high narrow sense heritability estimates for DDF, DDE, DDM indicating the prime importance of additive genetic effects for controlling these traits. DFP was also less heritable than the other phonological traits, so the efficiency of selection for this trait will be low. All of the combinations with significant negative SCA effects for DDM had at least one parent with significant negative GCA effect for this trait. PF7045/91 with significant positive GCA effect of SY, was best combiner for improving SY. Significant positive correlation between DDM and each of two traits including DDF and DDE, indicating these traits can be used as indirect selection criteria for improving DDM.

Opis:
This study investigated the relationship of morphological and molecular genetic distance with hybrid performance and heterosis in cucumber in an attempt to make use of genetic distance in predicting hybrid performance. The results of this study showed that GD, in general, correlated poorly with heterosis and SCA. Results showed that the mean values of the hybrids were significantly larger or smaller for many traits when compared with the mean of parental lines, indicating that heterosis was present for these traits. In next step we compare inter group hybrids versus intra group hybrids. This test showed that intra group hybridization although increased the yield and yield component but decrease some fruit quality such as fruit color and shape.

Half F2 diallel crosses of spring rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) varieties along with their parents were evalu- ated for plant height, first siliqua height, siliquae on main axis, siliquae per plant, 1000-seed weight and seed yield. The Analysis of variance based on Cockerham’s method revealed significant mean squares of general combining ability (GCA), specific combining ability (SCA) for all the traits indicating that both additive and non-additive genetic effects were involved in controlling these traits. Parent vs crosses mean square which is indicating average heterosis was significant for all the traits. In Hayman’s method the regression lines esti- mated for all the traits except plant height cut the Wr axis below the origin in the negative zone, suggesting the overdominance type of gene action for these traits except plant height. Based on the array points on the regression lines, 19H had maximum dominant genes for siliquae on main axis, siliquae per plant 1000-seed weight and seed yield, being closest to the origin, while Option500 possessed recessive genes for first siliqua height, siliquae per plant and 1000-seed weight, as evidenced by its distant position from the origin. Due to low narrow-sense heritability estimates for most of the traits, selection for improving these traits should be carried out in delayed segregating generations.

Although most of investigations showed that nitrogen fertilizers gave substantial rapeseed yield increases even in diverse and contradicting conditions but in a few studies were focused on genetic parameters of nitrogen stress effects. Combining ability of some of important grain yield stress indices based on application and non application of nitrogen (N+ and N0) was studied using half diallel of six spring rapeseed varieties and their 15 F2 progenies. Significant mean squares of general and specific combining abilities (GCA and SCA) were observed for potential yield(Yp), Stress yield(Ys), mean productivity (MP), geometric mean productivity (GMP), tolerance index (TOL), stress tolerance index (STI) and stress susceptibility index (SSI), indicating importance of additive and non-additive genetic effects for them. Non significant ratio of GCA to SCA mean square and low narrow-sense heritability estimates were detected for all the indices, indicating the prime importance of non-additive genetic effects. Significant positive GCA effect of Yp, Ys, MP, GMP and STI for PF7045/91 and significant negative GCA effects of them for Option500, indicated the same direction of GCA effects of these indices and GCA effects of Yp and Ys. On compare to SCA effects, most of crosses had significant high parent heterosis for Yp, Ys and and all the stress indices, therefore selection the better combinations based on heterosis will be more effective than SCA effect.

Opis:
Combining ability analysis and heterosis for cotton fiber quality traits were studied in a set of diallel crosses involving eight cotton (Gossypium sp.) genotypes. Randomized complete block design was used to test 56 F1 and 8 parents for fiber quality traits; length (Len), strength (Str), micronaire (Mic), uniformity (Unf), elongation (Elg), spinning consistency index (Sci) and short fiber index (Sfi). Analysis revealed significant general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) effects for all the traits and additive gene effects were important in the inheritance of the traits. Giza-45 had the highest GCA effects for Len, Sci, Unf and Elg while Is-4 had the highest Str value. Mic and Sfi values were lowest for Askabat-100 and Giza-45, respectively. The cross Cukurova-1518 × 108-F and Nazilli-84S × Askabat-100 had the lowest SCA effects for Mic and Sfi, respectively. The highest values for Len (Askabat-100 × 108-F), for Str (Acala Prema × 108-F), for Sci (Is-4 × Giza-45), for Unf (Stoneville-453 × Askabat-100) and for Elg (108-F × Is-4) were also obtained. Hybridizations among Askabat-100 × Nazilli-84S, Is-4 × Giza-45, Askabat-100 × Stoneville-453, Askabat-100 × Giza-45, Is-4 × 108F, Giza-45 × 108F, Giza-45 × Acala Prema, Nazilli-84S × Giza-45, Is-4 × Nazilli-84S and Acala Prema × Askabat-100 crosses yielded the best heterosis and heterobeltiosis values. Opis:
In this study five strawberry parental forms and F1 hybrids obtained from diallel crossing performed according to Griffings method III (with the effects of reciprocal crosses without inbred) were evaluated. The progeny (20 hybrids) and parental forms were planted in the field in a completely randomized block design (4 replicates, 30 plants in each plot). The aim of the study was to assess the general (GCA) and specific (SCA) combining abilities and the effects of reciprocal crosses (RE) in five strawberry cultivars. In 2005–2006 the following features of plants were analyzed: mean yield per plant, mean number of fruits per plant, mean weight of single fruit and vigour of plants (as a mean number of leaves). The statistical analysis was assessed on the basis of mean results obtained in the first and second year of fructification. The parental forms showed positive or negative results as regards the general combining ability. The highest positive GCA effect of yield per plant was recorded in cv. Teresa. In this cultivar, however, the GCA value for the average number of fruits per plant was negative. Cultivars Chandler, Kent and Senga Sengana showed negative GCA effects for average number of leaves per plant. Disadvantageous effects of cv. Senga Sengana upon all the analyzed traits in the hybrids were recorded. Positive SCA effects for all the traits were found in the progeny Kent × Teresa and 1387 × Senga Sengana. The results of reciprocal crosses upon the yield of fruit per plant indicated that cv. Senga Sengana can give better effects when it is used as a maternal component. In contrast, the cvs. Kent and Teresa provide better effects as parental forms.

Przeprowadzono krzyżowanie dialleliczne (typ II wg Griffinga, 1956) pomiędzy 8 liniami wsobnymi (S6) rzepaku jarego. Linie te wyselekcjonowano z 30 linii hodowlanych (SHR Borowo) w oparciu o wyniki wielozmiennej analizy wariancji.
Diallel crosses (Griffing’s type II) between 8 inbred lines of spring rape were made. The lines were selected from 30 breeding lines (SHR Borowo) based on the results of multivariate analysis of variance. Field experiments with parental genotypes and F1 hybrids were carried out in the years 2002 and 2003. Genetic analysis of nine quantitative traits was done. Significant effects of additive genes were found for all of the evaluated traits and for both years of the experiment. Significant dominance effects were only observed in the first year of investigations. Coefficients of heritability differed greatly between years of the experiment. These were always lower in the second year. The highest values of heritability were found for plant height (0.71 in 2003 and 0.30 in 2002), whereas the lowest ones were recorded for the number of pods per plant (0.19 and 0.05, respectively).

In rabi season 2012, six diversed maize inbred lines were crossed in all possible combinations without reciprocals by using a half diallel mating design to obtain 15 single cross. Inbred parents and their F1 single crosses with a check were evaluated in rabi season 2013 to evaluate the role of general and specific combin-ing ability and heterosis for some quantitative traits. Significant general combining ability variances was observed only for cob height and specific combining ability variances were observed for plant height, cob height, cob length, cob girth, number of kernels per cob, cob weight and hundred grain weight. The GCA/SCA ratio was less than unity for all studied traits except shelling percentage; this means that these traits are pre-dominantly controlled by non-additive gene action. Based on GCA estimates, it could be concluded that the best combiners were ML01, ML05 and ML29 inbred lines for most of the studied traits. This result indi-cated that these inbred lines could be considered as good combiners for improving these traits. Significant positive SCA effects were found for all studied traits except number of kernels per row and shelling percent-age. Based on SCA effects, it could be concluded that the crosses ML01×ML02, ML02×ML05, ML02×ML29 and ML05×ML15 could be exploited by the maize breeders to increase maize yield. Three F1 hybrids such as ML02×ML15, ML02×ML29 and ML05×ML15 proved to be the outstanding hybrids to immediate further steps for commercial cultivation. In a conclusive decision the F1 hybrid, ML02×ML29 was the best combina-tion as evaluated through combining ability and standard heterosis.

An analysis of combining ability of rye, based on F1 generation hybrids, was performed in order to select lines of high effects of general combining ability which are useful for creation of population and synthetic varieties as well as hybrids giving high effects of specific combining ability. The main aim of the present paper was to recognize the actions of genes responsible for quantitative traits and combining ability of rye inbred lines on the basis of F1  and F2  hybrids analysis. The study material included 56 F1 generation hybrids obtained though diallel-cross with 8 parent lines as well as 56 F2  generation hybrids crossed with 8 parent lines.A genetic analysis of generation F2 yields results and GCA estimates which substantially correspond with those obtained for generation F1. The closest results were obtained for plant height, ear length and 1000-grain weight. For cultivation purposes, an analysis of generation F2  will be reliable and the selection based on it successful. Most of the studied lines were found to essentially influence the effects of general combining ability. The most recommendable is the line SMH-49 whose progeny was characterized both by shortened leaves and increased 1000-grain weight and the weight of grains per ear.

Opis:
A genetic model is developed with additive, dominance and genotype × environment interaction effects for the progeny from a diallel mating design. To uncover the genetic contributions of some traits of rapeseed to seed yield and find indicator traits for indirect selection, multivariable conditional analysis was conducted based on this method. Therefore, an experiment was conducted to estimate genetic parameters using a half diallel of nine international rapeseed cultivars. The 36 F1 hybrids, the parents and four additional cultivars were planted in the breeding nurseries in 2008 and 2009. Several traits including number of pods per plant (NPP), pod length (LP), height of the first pod (HFP), height of the first lateral branch (HFB), stem diameter (SD), days of flowering period (FP), days to physiological maturity (DPM) and seed yield were recorded. The genetic variance component (VD×Y) was significant for all the studied traits but the genetic variance component (VA) was significant for NPP, HFB, HFP, DPM and SY traits and the genetic variance component (VD) was significant for HFB, HFP, LP and FP traits. There was significant positive phenotypic correlation (rA) between seed yield with NPP and HFP and there was significant positive dominance × year interaction correlation (rD×Y) between seed yield with NPP and DPM while there was significant negative dominance × year interaction correlation (rD×Y) between seed yield with HFB, LP and FP. There were significantly positive additive effects of SY for two parents Orient and Talaye. Finally according to additive-dominance genetic model and conditional genetic effects, the genotypes Talaye proved good general combiner for seed yield improvement and crosses 4 × 8 (Orient × Talaye), 7 × 8 (Opera × Talaye) were found the best specific combiner for all the studied traits...

Do krzyżowania diallelicznego (model II Griffinga) wybrano jedenaście zróżnicowanych pod względem cech agronomicznych i jakościowych odmian pszenicy ozimej. Dwa doświadczenia (bloki losowane, trzy powtórzenia): jedno z pokoleniem F1, drugie z pokoleniem F2 (55 mieszańców i odmiany rodzicielskie w każdym) przeprowadzono w RGD w Dłoni w 2004 r. W ocenie addytywnego działania genów, nieaddytywnych efektów i dominacji, podobieństwo pomiędzy pokoleniami było większe niż podobieństwo w ocenie odziedziczalności w szerokim i wąskim sensie.
Eleven winter wheat varieties, differing in agronomic and quality traits, were chosen for diallel crosses (Griffing’s model II). Two experiments: with F1 and F2 generations (55 hybrids and their parents for each) were carried out at the ARS in Dłoń in 2004. Both experiments were performed in randomised block design with three replications. Heritability and genetic components for morpholohgical and yield components traits were calculated. The additive genes action was significant in determination of all examined traits in F1 and F2 generations. Dominance had a significant effect on plant height, number of spikes per plant in both generations, and on number of spikelets per spike and weight of grain per spike in F2 generation. Nonadditive component (H1) was higher than additive (D) for number of spikes in both generations. Differences were found between generations for heritability in broad sense for number of grains per spike, and for heritability in narrow sense for weight of grains per spike. Similarity between generations F1 and F2 in evaluation of additive, nonadditive genetic components and dominance was higher than evaluation of heritability in broad and narrow sense.
