According to a recently published data obtained by the space probe WMAP, as much as 72% of the Universe energy density is the dark energy of the state equation parameter w from – 1.29 to – 0.75. The dark energy of w < – 1 has been named the phantom dark energy as this value w implies the breaking of the Universe structures in a finite time tR. The phantom dark energy rips apart the Milky Way, the solar system, the Earth and ultimately the molecules and atoms of which we are composed, before the time tR.

Opis:
Travelling, both in a history of the world and or even more in the present times, is far from commonly accepted ways to do leisure activities. Tourism has evolved from the traditional “3 x S” (Sea, Sun, Sand) to “3 x E” (Entertainment, Excitement, Education). Desire to enjoy new experiences, feel unique emotions and take certain actions, it is what prevails now. A relatively new form of tourism - dark tourism, provides such an opportunity. Traveling through trails of disasters, accidents, visiting places associated with calamities and death are the best examples of such tourism. The tourism market, which is represented by, among others, the mass media, provides all sorts of information to potential tourists. Natural curiosity and desire to explore the world drives people to see a phenomenon, which is in the centre of attention of everyone. Some travel agencies are introducing innovative tourism products associated with it and by means of that they become more competitive on the tourist market. Yet the question remains whether such trips are a great idea or perhaps they are immoral. On one hand they educate and sensitize people to the plight of others, but on the other hand the human misery is becoming a sort of tourist attraction, therefore one should consider the existence and creation of such innovative offers.

Opis:
The article deals with the so called missing mass problem which during the last three decades has become one of the most serious difficulties in physics. There is some strong empirical evidence that the Universe contains not only matter that can be seen (by telescopes or radio telescopes) but the huge quantities of the unseen matter as well. The ordinary matter known to physics is but a small part of all matter the Universe is composed of. The missing mass is supposed to be in the form of the dark matter and the dark energy. In the paper the arguments in favor of the existence of these two entities are outlined, and some scientific as well as philosophical implications of the missing mass problem are discussed. It is argued that all the proposed solutions of this problem lead to serious changes in the scientific and philosophical worldview.

Opis:
One of the essential aspects of the dispute between scientific realism and anti-realism is the question of the ontological status of unobservable objects assumed by scientific theories and models. Scientific realism claims that these objects exist in the natural world, while anti-realism denies this. The missing mass problem is a good example of an issue that requires that this question be resolved. In cosmology, this problem is solved by assuming the presence of dark matter and dark energy. The difficulty, however, is that experience does not provide direct evidence for the existence of these two „substances.” In the first part of the article, the differences between scientific realism and anti-realism are discussed. In the second and third parts, the problem of the missing mass is presented (special attention is paid to the difficulties with the empirical confirmation of the existence of dark matter and dark energy). The fourth part of the article discusses the arguments of the supporters of half-realism, which is a kind of compromise between scientific realism and anti-realism.

The current cosmological observations of distant supernovae type Ia suggest the existence of dark energy component with negative pressure. The most obvious candidate for this dark energy is the cosmological constant which raises several theoretical difficulties. The problem of dark energy, due to our Universe is accelerating at present in principle is open. We argue that this problem will dominate the cosmology in XXI century. From the philosophical point of view it is interesting to provide evidence and comments for the key issues related to the dark energy models just at the moment before scientific revolution.

The starting point of this article is an attempt to prove the authenticity of the essential catchword of Julia Fiedorczuk’s ecocriticis, that “with the environmental crisis comes a crisis of the imagination” (citation from Lawrence Buell). In this article, the concept of disaster functions in an ecocritical practice is analysed and how we can avert anthropocentric and deleterious ways of thinking. An important context here is Timothy Morton’s concept of ecomimesis texts and more ecological, ambient poetics, where text reflects real processes which depart from the concept of imaginary nature. Specifically, this paper proves that in the latest poetry volume written by Urszula Zajączkowska, using the example of the volume Piach (2020), that firstly, the anthropocentric view of nature (which underlines the concept of ecomimesis) is abandoned, which, the imagined and servant, is far removed from the actual processes existing in the world. Secondly, the analysis and interpretation of selected texts in the poems confirms that the poetry exhibits a special sensitivity to changes and processes. In turn, this enables us to comprehend the effects of human actions. For this reason, the reader can exercise and practice his imagination, which is helped by the auratic poetics used. These activities facilitate a better understanding of the effects of human activities. Urszula Zajączkowska poetry’s prompts us to imagine how the materiality of the world works in practise and how these tiny atoms created the whole world. Also, this poetry fosters a way of thinking that assumes particular significance in the context of ongoing climate change, without necessarily aspiring for the currently popular apocalyptic themes.

Our study examines the impacts on workers when organisational humour is repeated, sustained, dominating, and potentially harmful, and thus can be considered to be bullying. In an ethnographic study of an idiosyncratic New Zealand IT company, we observed humour that was sexualised, dominating, and perpetrated by the most powerful organizational members. We argue that the compelling need for belonging in this extreme organizational culture influenced workers to accept bullying humour as just a joke and therefore acceptable and harmless even when it contravened societal workplace norms. Our contribution is in identifying and extending the significant theoretical relationship between workplace humour and bullying that, to date, is not well-explored in organizational research.

The hydrogen production technologies developed in the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery, Polish Academy of Sciences in Gdańsk are discussed here. They include the following methods: dark fermentation, photoelectrochemical water oxidation and hydrocarbons (or alcohols) reforming by microwave plasma. The potential of hydrogen production by using dark fermentation of different popular wastes such as: agricultural wastes, textile or wood waste, was determined using suitable models. Also, the influence of microaeration during dark fermentation of some substrates, e.g. sour cabbage, was tested. Photochemical oxidation is a water-splitting process driven by radiation at the surface of a titanium-oxide anode. The Si microrods covered by titania films were verified as a photoanode material. The hydrogen production from methane, ethanol, isopropanol and kerosene was driven by a microwave plasma. The results obtained confirm that microwave plasma sources have a high potential for hydrogen production via gaseous and liquid fuels reforming.

In the borehole DB-5, at a depth 1370.0 m dark micaceous enclave in granodiorite from Będkowska Valley was found. A sharp contact enclave/granodiorite is observed. The transition zone is irregularly developed around the enclave studied. It is a small enclave (3 x 6 cm), discoidal in shape. The microstructure of micaceous enclave is fine-blastic; crystalloblasts of rock-forming minerals are 0.2-0.5 mm in size. This enclave consists of: Fe-biotite (56-62 vol.%), plagioclase Ca-Na (34-40 vol.%), spinel (magnetite), corundum, and sericitic pseudo- morphs after cordierite. Its mineralogical composition is different from the Będkowska Valley granodiorite, what suggests that this rock is a medium/high-temperature restite. This rock represents residuum after partial melting of granodiorite magma in deep levels of basement of the Małopolska Massif.

Opis:
Recent astrophysical observations show that the universe has entered a late-time accelerated expansion period. It is commonly accepted that the dark energy is responsible for this enigmatic behavior of our universe, because it makes up about 70 percent of the content of our universe and dominates over the matter part. Therefore, the dark energy will govern the speedy enlargement and determine the fate of our universe. Another interpretation of the dark energy is that this is a new kind of dynamical field or fluid, something mysterious which fills all of space but something whose influence on the accelerated enlargement nature of our universe is the opposite of that of baryonic matter and ordinary energy. Here, we focus on the polytropic gas unified dark matter-energy model in a 5-dimensional cosmology to reconstruct tachyonic scalar field proposal of the dark energy. It is known that the background dynamics of the polytropic gas is equivalent to that one for the dark energy interacting with the dark matter. On the other hand, using scalar field is one of the most significant methods helping us to understand the dark universe. There are many scalar field proposals, but generally it is hard to get exact relations for the scalar field function and its self-interacting potential. In this work, making use of the 5-dimensional Polytropic gas model, we calculate exact relations for the tachyonic scalar field. After that, we discuss our theoretical calculations graphically in order to interpret our theoretical results in a different way.

Current Theories like General Relativity or Quantum Mechanics are not impacted when the reasoning is not pushed to the limits. My reasoning at the limits just complements current Theories when the parameters take extreme values and thus the logic of current physics is respected.

The aim of this article is to present the phenomenon of stalkerism (a kind of illegal tourism) in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. The article investigates the specificity of the stalker experience through the concept of transgression (Kozielecki 2007). The article broadens the perspective on the tourism experience by using a psychological concept that has not so far been widely used in tourism studies, even though it refers to classic ideas (liminality, rites of passage, transformation). The genesis and specificity of the phenomenon of stalkerism in the context of the development of organized tourism in the Zone are presented. Then the transgressions of stalkers during exploration of the Zone are described. Lastly, the article shows how stalkerism contributes to the transformation of tourism and the development of the Zone’s heritage.

Temperature is the most critical factor determining success or failure of plant establishment. Seed germination response of five medicinal species include three seed-propagated perennial species, Cichorium intybus, cynara scolymus and Echinacea purpurea and vegetative-reproduction perennial species, Achillea millefolium and annual species, Matricaria aurea were assessed at constant temperatures. The seeds were exposed to constant temperatures of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45°C under total darkness. Germination percentage of all the species were significantly affected by various temperatures (p ≤ 0.001). A. millefolium did not germinate at 5-10 and 35-45°C, but showed noticeable germination percentage (73.3-100%) at temperatures ranged from 15-30° C. The highest total germination percentage was observed within the range of 15-35 °C for other species. Also, we calculated cardinal temperatures (the minimum, optimum and maximum temperature) for seed germination of species. The highest value for minimum temperature was 10.07ºC in A. millefolium followed by C. scolymus and M. aurea (5ºC) while the lowest was for E. purpurea and C. intybus (2.68 and 2.90ºC respectively). The lowest value for optimum temperature was detected in A. millefolium (22.72ºC) and M. aurea (23.88°C) while the maximum values were observed in E. purpurea and C. intybus (30.40ºC and 29.90ºC respectively). Based on results of present study we concluded that species with both vegetative and seed-propagated reproduction forms like A. millefolium had smaller temperature range rather those with just one way of reproduction (seed production).

In her article, Magdalena Ziółkowska discusses the anthropological implications of the categories of night and darkness present in “fantastic” stories. Literature of the fantastic includes genres such as horror, fantasy and science fiction. In each of them there are categories of night and darkness and they are closely related to their anthropological interpretation in culture and society. The process of symbolizing these categories is present in popular culture. Cultural connotations in “fantastic” literature are based, on the one hand, on people’s natural fear of night and darkness, and, on the other, on narrative consistency with the cultural and social competences of the readers.

Physics and astronomy, developing since the seventeenth century, inherited from the early Greek philosophers the conception that the Universe as a whole is invariable. In nineteenth century this conception in conjunction with the conception of eternity of the Universe (being a philosophical conclusion from the conservation laws of mass and energy) gave rise to contradictions with other laws of physics indicating that cosmology is not a branch of physics since the notion of the Universe is not a physical one. Cosmology returned to physics as its important branch due to the advent of general relativity theory and the discovery of the cosmic microwave background radiation. Modern cosmology generates fundamental problems creating real limits to inquiries in physics viewed as an empirical science. The very notion of the Universe shows that the scientific method reaches there limits of its applicability. Does „to exist” mean „to be observed by someone”? Should the definition of the Universe be based on a current physical theory, e.g. on Einstein’s general relativity, giving rise to a kind of mathematical instability? Is the fashionable concept of the „multiverse” a physical one or is a purely metaphysical notion in a scientific disguise? If the Universe is unique (as we believe), is it meaningful to describe it in the framework of physics, which by its method always assumes that the number of objects it describes, is unlimited? Apart from these permanent philosophical problems there are concrete urgent problems generated by cosmology: the nature of dark matter and dark energy. These two species of „substance” appear only in cosmology and do not fit the laboratory physics; contrary to the three centuries long tradition of modern science, now cosmology inspires physics in a troublesome way. A separate class of limits to physics is generated by the theorem in general relativity that the Universe emerged from an initial curvature singularity of the spacetime. At the singularity the whole scientific inquiry breaks down. Cosmology of the very early Universe suggests that in its evolution two specific epochs took place, that of quantum gravity and an inflationary epoch. The underlying them two physical theories are incomplete and seem to be inherently untestable. Furthermore, the experimentally verifiable physics cannot explain the origin of the initial conditions determining properties of the Universe which emerged from the singularity.

The lithologic variation and biostratigraphy of the Hieroglyphic Beds were examined in the Szczyrzyc Depression, where four lithologic complexes were distinguished. The biostratigraphy is based on agglutinated foraminifera and supported by scarce planktonic foraminifera. The lower part of the Hieroglyphic Beds contains non-characteristic, Ypresian foraminifers, including assemblages of small-sized Trochammina and at successively higher levels representatives of the Bartonian Ammodiscus latus Zone and the Priabonian Reticulophragmium gerochi Zone. The upper part of the Hieroglyphic Beds, composed of dark shales enriched in TOC (1–2%), corresponds to the deposits of the so-called Black Eocene, known from the Fore-Magura group of nappes. Redeposited flysch rocks resulting from episodes of subaqueous mass flow occur in the lower Bartonian part of the section.

The aim of this article is to present study results concerning the structure of teacher Machiavellianism. Machiavellianism was researched extensively throughout the last 40 years as a personality feature comprising traits related to leadership manipulation tactics. Psychology describes Machiavellianism as a part of the universal model called “the dark triad of personality” alongside with subclinical narcissism, subclinical psychopathy and low empathy. The teacher Machiavellianism model presented in this article, as opposed to the universal models, strongly accentuates the context-specifi c variables related to the organization of life in a school, alongside with personality variables. To achieve a new insight into the mechanism of how teacher Machiavellianism is generated, structural equation modeling (SEM) was used, which incorporates personality variables such as: self-effi cacy, disposition for gratitude, values, one’s personal resources, professional burnout, alongside context-specifi c variables like: organizational culture, work attitude, tenure and specialization in the tasks performed. Results of two studies are shown, discussing the empirical structure of teacher Machiavellianism components in relation to the initial theoretical model.

Opis:
In this essay, the author regards the individual as the chief courier of History, and Mr. Putin, the immediate cause of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – distinguishing his agency from broad precipitating socio-historical causes that deny inwardness, individuality, and free-will. A dark puppeteer, Mr. Putin is more sinister than Plato’s puppeteers (Allegory of the Cave). This invasion raises at least three questions: (1) Why has the west not responded as much to other recent non-western wars and genocides? Why have Europe’s former colonies not protested Russia more vigorously? (2) Why do armed forces obey cultishly, the commands of autocratic heads of state? (3) How do we prevent autocrats from occupying positions of power? Western hedonism and Putin’s puritanism are opposites that cannot resolve one another. Moreover, Ukraine reminds us that non-violence, patriotism, defiance – even war – cannot be moral absolutes. Depending on the context, they are good, evil, or something in between.

Opis:
In June 2005 metaplantation of Eryngium maritimum and Epipactis atrorubens, from the build area of the Gdańsk Container Terminal into Sobieszewska Island was carried out. The reason for that immediate action was the unreliable report of the influence of investment on the environment, in which the mentioned above species have not been included. Metaplantation was conducted during one day time, by 21 volunteers. Altogether, 146 individuals of Sea Holly and 184 ones of Dark Red Helleborine have been translocated. Detailed measurements of each individual were made. On the new site, all planted individuals were permanently labelled. The newly constituted populations have been taken under monitoring. With regard to species of special concern, metaplantation of threatened populations seems to be the most beneficial form of nature compensation expected from the investors. Still, there are no unambiguous procedures for its executing.
W czerwcu 2005 roku przeprowadzona została metaplantacja populacji Eryngium maritimum i Epipactis atrorubens z terenu budowy terminalu kontenerowego Portu Północnego w Gdańsku na Wyspę Sobieszewską. Metaplantację przeprowadzono w ciągu jednego dnia, a wzięło w niej udział 21 wolontariuszy. Ogółem przeniesiono 146 okazów mikołajka nadmorskiego i 184 kruszczyka rdzawoczerwonego.

“The evolution of Machiavellianism as a theoretical construct” presents the phenomenon of Machiavellianism as a subject of research, which in its matter undergoes evolution. Through the analysis of the content of research and articles on Machiavellianism, the authors present initial and contemporary approaches to the phenomenon, presenting the evolution and expansion of the phenomenon itself. The authors confirm the hypotheses and at the same time indicate that as a result of evolution, the conclusions made at the beginning of the research on Machiavellianism were wrong in their assumption, because, as confirmed by the presented research, Machiavellianism is a mental dysfunction. The authors note, however, that Machiavellianism itself has moved very far away from its “original” because there are few publications on Machiavellianism as “political doctrine”.

Opis:
A theoretical analysis of the mid-wavelength infrared range detectors based on the HgCdTe materials for high operating temperatures is presented. Numerical calculations were compared with the experimental data for HgCdTe heterostructures grown by the MOCVD on the GaAs substrates. Theoretical modelling was performed by the commercial platform SimuAPSYS (Crosslight). SimuAPSYS fully supports numerical simulations and helps understand the mechanisms occurring in the detector structures. Theoretical estimates were compared with the dark current density experimental data at the selected characteristic temperatures: 230 K and 300 K. The proper agreement between theoretical and experimental data was reached by changing Auger-1 and Auger-7 recombination rates and Shockley-Read-Hall carrier lifetime. The level of the match was confirmed by a theoretical evaluation of the current responsivity and zero-bias dynamic resistance area product (R0A) of the tested detectors.
