Opis:
The main aim of this article is to study the Poisson type problem for anisotropic p-Laplace type equation on long cylindrical domains. The rate of convergence is shown to be exponential, thereby improving earlier known results for similar type of operators. The Poincaré inequality for a pseudo p-Laplace operator on an infinite strip-like domain is also studied and the best constant, like in many other situations in literature for other operators, is shown to be the same with the best Poincaré constant of an analogous problem set on a lower dimension.

Opis:
In the paper we consider the boundary value problem of heat conduction in a non-cylindrical domain, which is an inverted cone, i.e. in the domain degenerating into a point at the initial moment of time. In this case, the boundary conditions contain a derivative with respect to the time variable; in practice, problems of this kind arise in the presence of the condition of the concentrated heat capacity. We prove a theorem on the solvability of a boundary value problem in weighted spaces of essentially bounded functions. The issues of solvability of the singular Volterra integral equation of the second kind, to which the original problem is reduced, are studied. We use the Carleman–Vekua method of equivalent regularization to solve the obtained singular Volterra integral equation.

Opis:
The linear 3D piezoelasticity theory along with active damping control (ADC) strategy are applied for non-stationary vibroacoustic response suppression of a doubly fluid-loaded functionally graded piezolaminated (FGPM) composite hollow cylinder of infinite length under general time-varying excitations. The control gain parameters are identified and tuned using Genetic Algorithm (GA) with a multi-objective performance index that constrains the key elasto-acoustic system parameters and control voltage. The uncontrolled and controlled time response histories due to a pair of equal and opposite impulsive external point loads are calculated by means of Durbin’s numerical inverse Laplace transform algorithm. Numerical simulations demonstrate the superior (good) performance of the GA-optimized distributed active damping control system in effective attenuation of sound pressure transients radiated into the internal (external) acoustic space for two basic control configurations. Also, some interesting features of the transient fluid-structure interaction control problem are illustrated via proper 2D time domain images and animations of the 3D sound field. Limiting cases are considered and accuracy of the formulation is established with the aid of a commercial finite element package as well as comparisons with the current literature.

Opis:
We abandon the setting of the domain as a Cartesian product of real intervals, customary for first order PFDEs (partial functional differential equations) with initial boundary conditions. We give a new set of conditions on the possibly unbounded domain Ω with Lipschitz differentiable boundary. Well-posedness is then reliant on a variant of the normal vector condition. There is a neighbourhood of ∂Ω with the property that if a characteristic trajectory has a point therein, then its every earlier point lies there as well. With local assumptions on coefficients and on the free term, we prove existence and Lipschitz dependence on data of classical solutions on (0,c)×Ω to the initial boundary value problem, for small c. Regularity of solutions matches this domain, and the proof uses the Banach fixed-point theorem. Our general model of functional dependence covers problems with deviating arguments and integro-differential equations.

Opis:
In this paper we discuss a two-phase Stefan problem with convection in a non-cylindrical (time-dependent) domain. This work is motivated by phase change phenomenon arising in the Czochralski process of crystal growth. The time-dependence of domain is a mathematical description of the situation in which the material domain changes its shape with time by crystal growth. We consider the so-called enthalpy formulation for it and give its solvability, assuming that the time-dependence of the material domain is prescribed and smooth enough in time, and the convective vector is prescribed, too. Our main idea is to apply the theory of quasi-linear equations of parabolic type.
