The need to optimize the trajectory of vehicles is still highly topical, regardless weather the means of transport are robots, forklifts or road vehicles. It is not only important the safety by passing obstacles, but also the energy balance, i.e. the energy expended on the movement of the vehicle and on the change of its direction. This paper presents a mathematical approach to solving this problem through interpolation and approximation curves. This is a very important scope of knowledge for the education of future engineers.

In this paper for elliptic curves provided by Huff’s equation H a,b : ax(y² − 1) = by(x² − 1) and general Huff’s equation G a,b : x(ay² − 1) = y(bx² − 1) and degree 2 compression function f(x, y) = xy on these curves, herein we provide formulas for doubling and differential addition after compression, which for Huff’s curves are as efficient as Montgomery’s formulas for Montgomery’s curves By² = x³ + Ax² + x. For these curves we also provided point recovery formulas after compression, which for a point P on these curves allows to compute [n]f(P) after compression using the Montgomery ladder algorithm, and then recover [n]P. Using formulas of Moody and Shumow for computing odd degree isogenies on general Huff’s curves, we have also provide formulas for computing odd degree isogenies after compression for these curves. Moreover, it is shown herein how to apply obtained formulas using compression to the ECM algorithm.

The article presents an elementary formula for joining Bézier curves smoothly, i.e., keeping the same curvature on both sides of a join, and a technique of modifying the neighbourhood of the joining point. The approach is not computationally demanding, so one can expect that it can be easily incorporated into any graphics system handling Bézier curves. An experimental implementation of the joining formula in a commercial font editor seems fairly promising.

Let K be any quadratic field with $_K$ its ring of integers. We study the solutions of cubic equations, which represent elliptic curves defined over ℚ, in quadratic fields and prove some interesting results regarding the solutions by using elementary tools. As an application we consider the Diophantine equation r+s+t = rst = 1 in $_K$. This Diophantine equation gives an elliptic curve defined over ℚ with finite Mordell-Weil group. Using our study of the solutions of cubic equations in quadratic fields we present a simple proof of the fact that except for the ring of integers of ℚ(i) and ℚ(√2), this Diophantine equation is not solvable in the ring of integers of any other quadratic fields, which is already proved in [4].

W artykule porównano wskaźniki zużycia paliwa na łukach pionowych parabolicznych i utworzonych przez wielomianowe krzywe przejściowe. Na podstawie tej analizy stwierdzono, że wyokrąglanie załamań niwelety za pomocą wielomianowych krzywych przejściowych może przyczynić się do redukcji zużycia paliwa. Przedstawiono też metodykę projektowania łuków pionowych za pomocą wielomianowych krzywych przejściowych.
In this article, fuel consumption on parabolic and polynomial vertical curves was analyzed. Due to this analysis, it was stated that rounding of the tangent inclinations by means of the polynomial transition curves can contribute to the reduction of fuel consumption. Methodology of vertical curves design by means of polynomial transition curves was also presented.

This paper presents the methodology for determining thermal strains and stresses during heating the charge in a rotary furnace. The calculations were made with the original software, which uses the finite element method. The heat transfer boundary conditions used for computing were verified on the basis of industrial tests. Good compatibility between the experimental data and numerical calculations was obtained. The possibility of the material cracking occurrence was checked for a set exhaust gas temperature distribution on the furnace length. As a result, it was possible to develop steel heating curves characterized by short process times.

  In this work, we consider a simple mathematical model of radiochemotherapy which includes a term responsible for radiosensitization. We focus on finding theoretically optimal controls which maximise tumour cure probability for a finite, fixed therapeutic horizon. We prove that the optimal controls for both therapies are of 0-bang type, a result which is not altered by the inclusion of the radiosensilization term. By means of numerical simulations, we show that optimal control offers a moderate increase in survival time over a sequential treatment. We then revisit in more detail a question of measuring the synergy between the therapies by means of isobolograms, a common experimental technique for measuring the additivity of two treatments.

This paper presents the results of research of influence of degree and number of polynomial terms of railway transition curves (TCs) on their dynamical properties. The research performed for needs of this work are planned numeric tests. The search for the proper shape means the evaluation of the curve properties based on chosen dynamical quantity and generation of such shape with the use of mathematically understood optimisation methods. For the needs of this work advanced vehicle model, dynamical track-vehicle and vehicle-passenger interactions as well as optimisation methods were exploited. The subject of the analysis are odd degree polynomial transition curves of the 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th degree. For each degree of the polynomial a range of acceptable number of polynomial terms was determined. One dynamical quantity - minimum of integral of vehicle body lateral acceleration - being the results of simulation of railway vehicle advanced model is exploited in the determination of quality function (QF).

There are many graphical representations of separation results involving time as a crucial parameter determining the kinetics of a process. The graphical representations of results of separation are usually in the form of 2D plots relating two parameters which one of them is time. Time can also be utilized as a complex parameter such as a process rate. The plots involving time are called kinetic curves. Theoretically, the number of kinetic curves is infinite. The basic process kinetic curves, relating either yield (or recovery) and time can be modified to obtain numerous local and global efficiency curves. The global efficiency kinetic curves provide characteristic constants which do not change with the time and yield of a process. In this paper the local and global efficiency plots were created using experimental data which followed the so-called first order kinetics. It was shown that the integral 1st order kinetic equation provided the kinetic constant k which was numerically identical with the 1st order specific rate v, while their units were different (k, 1/min; v, %/(%·min). The global efficiency parameters plotted versus the maximum yield provided another type of plot, which can be called the limits kinetic curve. The limits kinetic curves are very useful for characterizing, quantification and classification of separation systems. The limits kinetic curves can be normalized providing one universal curve with a characteristic point, for instance, v50 indicating the specific rate (or kinetic) constant at the maximum recovery equal to 50%. The mathematical equation of the normalized limits kinetic curve was given in the paper.

It is really hard to determine the phenomena occurring during aluminum refining process using argon blowing through the liquid metal in industrial conditions. The solution of such problem is physical modelling. This kind of modelling gives possibility to determine the level of dispersion of the refining gas in liquid metal. Especially in steel metallurgy RTD (Residence Time Distribution) analysis and visualization process with some colour tracer, which can give extra information about time of mixing are very popularly used. Because the modelling research (especially visualization) is pictorial, the research was conducted to check if it is possible to estimate quantitatively impeller working effectiveness basing on determination of the RTD curves. The examined object was model of URO-200 batch refining reactor. The RTD curves was registered and discussed for three different impellers and four different variants of processing parameters (rotary impeller speed: 300-500 rpm, and gas flow rate: 15-20 l·min-1). Additionally, the process of mixing of the inert gas with water as a modelling agent was enabled to be observed due to introduction of colour tracer (KMnO4). Results obtained from both measuring methods were graphically presented, compared and shortly discussed.
