In view of the growing interest in the nature of culture – language interface, on the one hand, and the socio-political developments inherent in European integration processes, on the other, three issues are perhaps worth addressing for linguists and cultural studies specialists: (i) whether the evolutionary processes of cultural integration can influence the structures of ethnic/national languages; (ii) the extent to which changes in language structure may result in a loss of certain elements characteristic of the culture related to the language; (iii) what that long-term (socio-political) consequences may be as an effect of the remarkable weakening and subsequent disappearance of the elements of ethnic cultures that function as determinants of ethnic/national identity. Considering the size of this article, none of the aforementioned issues will be solved. Nevertheless, some aspects of language–culture interface are identified, while the problem of ecological interdependence between language and culture is illustrated in the case of the death of Dyirbal. Changes in Dyirbal and examples of language expressions from English and Polish illustrating the cultural imprints in language structure are discussed from the perspective of cognitive methodologies.

The migration phenomenon always entails various consequences. There is a large sensitivity and understanding of this phenomenon within the interest and care of the Catholic Church. The current external and internal tendencies creating circumstances leading to isolation of migrants and marginalizing their presence, should be, in accordance with the teaching of the Church, overcome so that everyone, especially the young immigrants, could come to terms with his new environment, new country and culture, so that he will be able to realize his life plans and devote his time to those who constitute his new social network within the Christian community. The Catholic Church in Sweden, among its many initiatives and suggestions, tries, with different effects, to create a suitable climate for young immigrants’ integration anticipating it being the right way of building a Catholic community in a society indoctrinated by environments hostile to culture, history and catholic tradition and of the Catholic Church. The following article is an attempt to present the initiatives of the Catholic Church in Sweden in their efforts to achieve cultural integration of young immigrants with the help of Sveriges Unga Katoliker (Swedish Young Catholics) organization within its own activities and by way of cooperation with parishes and national missions

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest opisanie wyników badań poziomu integracji kulturowej Palestyńczyków w Polsce. Tekst składa się z trzech części. We wprowadzeniu omówiono rozumienie pojęcia „integracja” oraz badanych. Tych ostatnich podzielono na trzy grupy i scharakteryzowano. W części drugiej przedstawiono wyniki badań w czterech kategoriach: status zawodowy i materialny, opinie o Polsce i Polakach, rodzina i tożsamość oraz wyznanie. W podsumowaniu opisano wyniki badań, na podstawie których oparta została analiza ukazująca cechy charakterystyczne społeczności palestyńskiej, zmiany, jakim uległa podczas pobytu w Polsce oraz stopień jej integracji z Polską i Polakami.
The purpose of this article is to describe the results of the level of cultural integration of the Palestinians in Poland. The text consists of three parts. The introduction discusses the understanding of the concept of integration and the group I conducted the questionnaire to. They were divided into 3 groups and characterised. The second part presents the results of research in four categories: occupational status and material, reviews of Poland and Polish people, family and identity and religion. The summary describes the results. The analysis was based on the presented research and shows the characteristics of the Palestinian community, changes undergone during their stay in Poland and the degree of its integration with Poland and Polish people.

In Poland, the region where the phenomenon of multiculturalism is most strongly represented is Upper Silesia. Upper Silesia, its historical hosts, have been confronted with German, Polish and Czech nationalism since the mid-21st century. Initially, they were forced to determine their ethnic affiliation, then, due to the change of borders, they were forced to move to one or the other side of the newly established Polish-German border in 1922. After 1945, they were subjected to strong repression, deportation to forced labor camps, forced displacement, degrading verification of nationality, and then they were confronted with the Polish population who came to Upper Silesia. Most often, the Poles who arrived were hostile to the Upper Silesians. The aim of this article is to answer the question whether the experiences of integration of the indigenous population of Upper Silesia into the social, cultural, economic and political structures of the Polish state after World War II can be related to a similar process that will take place after the end of hostilities in the eastern regions of the Ukrainian state. . The starting point is the thesis that the Upper Silesian experience of the rehabilitation and citizenship verification procedures should serve as a warning against the mistakes made in Upper Silesia rather than as a useful reference point.
В Польше регионом, где феномен мультикультурализма наиболее сильно представлен, является Верхняя Силезия. Верхнесилезцы, его исторические жители, с середины 21 века столкнулись с немецким, польским и чешским национализмом. Первоначально они были вынуждены определить свою этническую принадлежность, затем, в связи с изменением границ, вынуждены были переходить то в одну, то в другую сторону вновь созданной в 1922 г. польско-германской границы. После 1945 г. они подверглись сильным репрессиям, депортациям в исправительно-трудовые лагеря, вынужденным переселениям, унизительной проверке национальности, а затем столкнулись с прибывшим в Верхнюю Силезию польским населением. Чаще всего прибывшие поляки относились к верхнесилезцам враждебно. Целью данной статьи является ответ на вопрос, может ли опыт интеграции коренного населения Верхней Силезии в социальные, культурные, экономические и политические структуры польского государства после Второй мировой войны быть отнесен к аналогичному процессу, который займет место после окончания боевых действий в восточных районах Украинского государства. Исходным пунктом является тезис о том, что Верхнесилезский опыт процедуры реабилитации и проверки гражданства должен служить предостережением от ошибок, допущенных в Верхней Силезии, а не полезным ориентиром.

This paper seeks to recover the debate on the cultural inclusion of migrants in the Argentine legal system (1983–2018), paying attention to regional integration initiatives in the South American context. For this, I expose a theoretical sketch around the concept of cultural policy. After that, I analyse the Argentine immigration regulations since 1983, the current immigration law and the legal order that emerged from its promulgation, exposing those points devoted to cultural inclusion. At the same time, I examine the reciprocal influence existing between the Argentine migratory order and the agreements reached by supranational organizations. By way of closing, I explain the incipient institutionalization of regional cultural integration initiatives.
Este artículo tiene por objetivo recuperar el debate en torno a la inclusión cultural de los migrantes en el ordenamiento legal argentino (1983–2018), prestando atención a las iniciativas regionales de integración en el contexto sudamericano. Para ello, se realiza un esbozo teórico en torno al concepto de política cultural. Posteriormente, se analizan las normativas migratorias argentinas desde 1983, la ley migratoria vigente y el ordenamiento legal surgido desde su promulgación, exponiendo aquellos puntos consagrados a la inclusión cultural. Paralelamente, se examina la influencia recíproca existente entre el ordenamiento migratorio argentino y los acuerdos alcanzados por organismos supranacionales. A modo de cierre, se expone la incipiente institucionalización de iniciativas de integración cultural regional.

Стаття присвячена виявленню евристичного потенціалу візуальних матеріалів у вивченні культурних цінностей і смислів, у контексті проблеми пошуку оптимальних шляхів соціокультурної інтеграції сімей вимушених переселенців та спільнот-реципієнтів. Дослідження базується на методологічних засадах соціальної культурології, що передбачає розгляд творів мистецтва як індивідуальних випадків реалізації культурних форм. У статті використано матеріали фотовиставки „Надія. Сім’я. Громада” – українсько-польського проекту, покликаного привернути увагу до проблем і потреб людей, які постраждали внаслідок військового конфлікту на сході України. Здійснено аналіз фотографій, присвячених особливостям соціокультурної інтеграції сімей сходу України та Криму. Описано формат стенду-кейсу та його конструктивні елементи. Окреслено основні принципи соціокультурного менеджменту виставкового проекту „Надія. Сім’я. Громада”. Доведено важливість візуальних матеріалів у вивченні інтеграційних процесів у сучасних українських громадах.
The article is devoted to identifying the heuristic potential of visual materials in the study of cultural values and meanings, in the context of the problem of finding optimal ways of socio-cultural integration of forced migrants’ families and recipient communities. The study is based on the methodological principles of social culturology, which involves the consideration of artworks as individual realization cases of cultural forms. The article uses materials from the photo exhibition „Hope. Family. Community”. This Ukrainian-Polish project is designed to draw attention to the problems and needs of people affected by the military conflict in Eastern Ukraine. The analysis of photos of the peculiarities of the socio-cultural integration of families from Eastern Ukraine and Crimea has been made. The format of the stand-case and its structural elements are described. The basic principles of socio-cultural management of the exhibition project „Hope. Family. Community” are outlined. The importance of visual materials in the study of integration processes in modern Ukrainian communities has been proven.

The article aims to present short review over the relations between the countries of South America regarding the policy of protection and safeguard of one of the most exceptional elements of cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples, represented by the pre-Columbian Andean Road System – Qhapaq Ñan. The first part describes the road network and its meaning for the inhabitants of the Andean region from pre-Columbian to modern times. Further section presents the process of the nomination and declaration of Qhapaq Ñan as a symbol of the World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO (2001–2014). The nomination was possible thanks to the effort of the representatives of six countries linked nowadays by the Trail: Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina, and in official discourse on regional and international level was presented in terms of pan-Andean integration and cooperation (via structures of the Andean Community of Nations, OAS or CONSUR). The last part of the article offers some reflections about current condition of cultural politics and the process of implementation of the indigenous peoples’ rights regarding the right to participation and the management of their cultural heritage.
El objetivo del artículo es presentar las relaciones entre los países de América del Sur en cuanto a la política de la protección y salvaguarda de uno de los elementos más excepcionales del patrimonio cultural de los pueblos indígenas de la región, representado por el Sistema Vial Andino – Qhapaq Ñan. La primera parte describe el sistema de las rutas precolombinas y su significado para los habitantes de la región andina desde tiempos prehispánicos hasta los tiempos modernos. Las partes siguientes presentan el proceso de la nominación y la declaración de Qhapaq Ñan como el símbolo del Patrimonio Cultural Mundial por la UNESCO (2001–2014). La nominación fue posible gracias al esfuerzo de los representantes de los seis países vinculados actualmente por el Sistema Vial: Colombia, Ecuador, Perú, Bolivia, Chile y Argentina, y se presentó en términos de la integración y la cooperación interregional (a través de las estructuras de la Comunidad Andina de Naciones, OEA o CONSUR). La última parte del artículo presenta algunas reflexiones sobre el estado actual de la política cultural y el proceso de implementación de los derechos de los pueblos indígenas en relación con el derecho a la participación y la gestión de su patrimonio cultural.

The paper addresses the cognitive-cultural aspects of the uniqueness of a literary work. In adopting the perspective of cognitive-cultural linguistic, we explore the issue of creativity in linguistic usage. Using the conception of grounded cognition, we investigate how the uniqueness of a literary work of art is shaped by the interaction between the author and the physical/social-cultural environment. In the paper, we discuss selected research problems from the field of social cognition, indicating the idiosyncratic nature of social perception and categorisation. In doing so, we show how the inherently limited cognitive skills of the individual affect the outcome of the categorisation process. Using insights from the conceptual blending theory, we discuss the panchronic aspects of human interaction mediated by language. In this way, we also highlight the panchronic nature of the ad hoc category created by Wisława Szymborska in her poem Thoughts That Visit Me on Busy Streets.
W artykule podjęto zagadnienie kognitywno-kulturowych podstaw niepowtarzalności dzieła literackiego w ujęciu językoznawstwa kognitywno-kulturowego, a zwłaszcza zagadnienie kreatywnego użycia językowego. Przy powołaniu się na koncepcję poznania zakotwiczonego, wedle której procesy poznawcze uwarunkowane są nie tylko ludzkim ucieleśnieniem, ale również interakcją jednostki ze środowiskiem fizycznym/społeczno-kulturowym, pokazano wpływ usytuowania na przejawy kreatywności językowej autora utworu literackiego. W publikacji omówiono wybrane problemy poznania społecznego, ze wskazaniem nieuchronnie idiosynkratycznego sposobu dokonywania przez podmiot kategoryzacji społecznej. Analiza powyższych zagadnień na przykładzie wiersza Wisławy Szymborskiej Myśli nawiedzające mnie na ruchliwych ulicach pozwala na wskazanie potencjalnych źródeł ograniczeń poznawczych, zmniejszających trafność spostrzegania i kategoryzacji obiektów w rzeczywistości społecznej. Zagadnienie poznania społecznego staje się punktem wyjścia do analizy sposobu tworzenia przez noblistkę umysłu fikcyjnego konceptualizatora, przy wskazaniu śladów właściwej autorce aktywności poznawczej, naznaczonej niepewnością jeśli chodzi o zrozumienia złożonego świata interakcji międzyludzkich. Wskazana została dynamiczna natura wyłaniania się struktur poznawczych, pojawiających się w kontekście codziennych relacji interpersonalnych. Pokazano również sposób, w jaki Szymborska tworzy społeczną kategorię ad hoc oraz strukturę tej kategorii uwarunkowaną niepowtarzalnym sposobem konstruowania świata przez noblistkę.

Tekst podejmuje problematykę funkcjonowania Euroregionu Nysa – obszaru trójstyku granic, na którym ścierają się interesy trzech należących do jego struktury państw oraz występuje wypracowywany wspólnie społeczny, gospodarczy i polityczny konsensus. Mimo że wiele problemów zażegnano (np. stan środowiska naturalnego), wciąż istnieją kwestie domagające się rozwiązania. Realizowana przez trzy strony Euroregionu strategia zrównoważonego rozwoju pozwala na równomierny rozkład działań oraz środków na rzecz poprawy stanu komunikacji, ruchu turystycznego i wzmożonej wymiany kulturowej. W dobie zachodzących procesów globalnych wydaje się, że inicjatywa powstania Euroregionów znacząco wpływa na rozwój kulturowy zaangażowanych państw, pobudzając przy tym gospodarki lokalne w zakresie wymiany turystycznej i handlowej. Na obszarze Polski działa 17 euroregionów. Są one strukturami, które ewoluując odpowiadają na nowe wyzwania zmieniającego się otoczenia. Przymus reorientacji przyjętych strategii rodzi nowe i kreatywne projekty wychylone w stronę przyszłości. Jeśli istnieje wizja współpracy, oznacza ona trójstronną chęć i potrzebę zacieśniania procesów integracji.
The text concerns the problems connected with functioning of the Nysa Euroregion – an area of a triadic influence, conflicts between individual interests of 3 countries, which belong to it, and the worked-out social, economic and political consensus. Although many problems have been dealt with (the natural environment), there remain questions to solve. The sustainable development strategy realized by the three parties of the Euroregion allows for the equal division of actions and means for the improvement of the transportation, tourism and increased cultural exchange. In the times of global processes it seems that the Euroregions initiative significantly influences the cultural development of the participants, stimulating the local economies in the field of tourism and trade. In Poland we have 17 Euroregions. They are evolving structures which react to new challenges of the changing environment. The reorientation towards future principle brings forth new and creative projects. If there is a cooperation perspective, it means the join will and need to strengthen the integration processes.

Borderscapes są przestrzeniami społecznej i językowej dyfuzji, miejscami kulturowej i ekonomicznej hybrydyzacji. Są to miejsca stwarzające mieszkańcom możliwość, a zarazem obligujące ich do otwarcia się na język i kulturę sąsiada. Opierając się na teorii integracji społecznej Heckmanna ( ), w niniejszym artykule podejmuje się próbę oceny integracji kulturowej na pograniczu polsko-niemieckim na przykładzie Słubfurtu (dwumiasta Słubice/Frankfurt nad Odrą). Dwoma głównymi wyznacznikami integracji kulturowej są dwukulturowość oraz dwujęzyczność. By osiągnąć te cele, wszyscy uczestnicy tego procesu (państwo, a właściwie władze lokalne, polskie i niemieckie społeczności lokalne) powinni być świadomi swojej roli w procesie integracji. Analiza integracji kulturowej skupia się na ocenie zaangażowania wszystkich podmiotów w rozwój transgranicznej dwukulturowości i dwujęzyczności. Postawiono następujące pytania badawcze: W jaki sposób lokalne władze Słubic i Frankfurtu wspierają integrację kulturową (w tym również językową) mieszkańców dwumiasta? Jaki stosunek do języka i kultury sąsiada mają mieszkańcy Słubic i Frankfurtu nad Odrą? Jakie kroki winny zostać podjęte celem wzmocnienia poziomu integracji i stworzenia polsko-niemieckiego borderscape’u?
Borderscapes (cf. Perera, ) are places of social and linguistic diff usion, places of cultural and economic hybridization, places in which the inhabitants have the opportunity and also obligation DOI: 10.23734/mcs.2016.1.103.114 nadesłany: 03.03.2016 r. – przyjęty: 05.05.2016 r. 104 Multicultural Studies 1/2016 to open themselves towards the neighbour’s language and culture. Based on the theory of social integration by Heckmann ( ) (that actually focuses on integration of immigrants), the paper discusses the condition of cultural integration (one of the four fi elds of social integration, cf. Heckmann, , pp. – ) in the German-Polish border region on the example of Slubfurt (Słubice – Frankfurt Oder twin town). The two main aims of cultural integration are biculturalism and bilingualism. To achieve these goals in a transborder reality all the participants in these processes (state or rather local policies, German and Polish societies) should be conscious of their role in the integration process. The analysis of cultural integration focuses on the role of all the participants in supporting transborder bilingualism and biculturalism. The research questions are as follows: How do the local policies of Słubice and Frankfurt Oder support the cultural and linguistic integration of Poles and Germans? What attitudes towards the neighbour’s language and culture are displayed by the Polish and German inhabitants of Slubfurt? What should be improved to strengthen the degree of integration and creation of a German-Polish borderscape?

Technologies of digital photogrammetry provide the metric and thematic information for various data bases, including those which are created to visualize and archive the cultural heritage objects. Due to different sizes, shapes, locations and environmental conditions of objects, data is acquired by means of various photogrammetric methods based on aerial and terrestrial digital imagery and laser scanning data. They are also very often integrated with data from other sources. Photogrammetric products dedicated for the cultural heritage are usually collected and integrated in 3D GIS data bases, which are used by various specialists involved in restoration of the historical monuments. The variety of photogrammetric data and possibility of multi criterion spatial data processing and analysis in 3D GIS, allow to reconstruct the accurate terrain topography and 3D models of valuable heritage monuments. In this paper, an integration of various photogrammetric products (created in the past and within the discussed project), used for the needs of visualization of the terrain topography and 3D models of historical buildings and vegetation for the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów area, is presented. The following photogrammetric products were utilized: the orthophotomap of 0.1 m resolution from the Geodetic and Cartographic Documentation Centre (CODGiK), ALS - ISOK data, 3D vector data from stereo digitalization of 0.1 m resolution images, the vegetation layer for the area of the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów, acquired from the 3D data base. In addition, some symbols of missing objects were used from the Google 3D WareHouse.

Nowadays, when the migration processes have contributed to the high diversification of societies, one can observe that many social environments put extra emphasis on actions aimed at the integration of minority and majority groups. One of the issues connected with the integration of socio–cultural migrants with the host societies is their acquisition of intercultural competence. Having appropriate intercultural competencies increases the probability of success in the integration processes. However, this does not mean that the immigrants’ opportunities for integration in the cultural and intergenerational dimension are not problematic. Those difficulties are related to the multi-faceted cultural diversity of migrant groups recognizing different norms and values, what in a consequence may lead to tensions and even conflicts. It should be emphasized that intercultural competence and its implications – the success of integration or the integration failure – do not depend only on cultural diversity. What is important is the age of the migrants in addition to other psychological factors such as awareness of one’s self-centredness, attribution error or the group anxiety. The paper focuses on the acquisition of intercultural competences by the migrants in the integration process with the majority group depending on the migrants’ age and cultural capital. From the theoretical point of view, the younger the migrant is and the more similar to the new social reality the cultural context of the migrant’s is, the higher chance is to acquire the necessary cultural competences. It is indeed related to the new reality of the migrant’s life. Moreover, the level of one’s awareness of one’s self-centredness and the group anxiety as well as one’s perception of the reasons for one’s own and other’s behaviours (attribution error) can diversify the process.

European integration is obviously impeded by the national and nation-state idea that is still vigorous and motivates European Union (EU) member states' refusals to cede powers to the EU or subnational levels. Recent events like the global economic crisis, the Euro crisis, the migration crisis and the coronavirus pandemic have, however, demonstrated that it is not just the national idea and the nation state that appear to seriously hinder further integration, but that fundamental diferences in cultural attitudes in diferent parts of Europe are also responsible. They can be traced back to earlier periods of history and a Europe that consisted of parts with very divergent economic, social and political attitudes. These disparities are dificult to equalize. The article highlights Europe's major cultural diferentiation processes in history, hints at their current traces in economic, social and political attitudes and relates those attitudes to problems in European integration.
