Opis:
The city of Puebla was put on the UNESCO list of Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 1987; its history dates back to the sixteenth century allowing for the preservation of various important buildings, such as churches with baroque and neoclassical facades, buildings from the period known as Novo Hispanics, when some of its historic neighbourhoods were founded, including the Barrio el Refugio, hereinafter referred to as BR, where indigenous people employed in the lime manufacture used to live. Since those times, however, the neighbourhood has become a place with bad reputation, “a den of thieves” (Leicht). The traditional, religious commemoration, the “Fiesta Patronal de la Virgen del Refugio,” is the most important celebration in the neighbourhood. In the Church of La Virgen del Refugio, built in the seventeenth century after an inhabitant painted a mural with the image of the virgin, the “mañanitas” are sung with the Mariachi. During the patronal feast, the “El Refugio Cultural Festival” is held with more than a hundred artists taking part and creating about a thousand murals according to the organiser’s estimation. This happens in the city where a project “Puebla Ciudad Mural” was started, as an initiative of the “Colectivo Tomate,” which sought to regenerate the neighbourhood through art, in alliance with the government and private companies. However, these policies are more tourist oriented rather than benefit the neighbourhood. For this reason, the graffiti movement “Festival Cultural el Refugio” is becoming a meeting point for urban artists from Mexico and Puebla, accustomed to taking up public or private space, as they demand space where they can live and express themselves. For ten years the festival has realised more than one thousand pieces of urban art, including Wild Style graffiti, bombs, stickers, stencil, and murals. All this is done under the patronage of the artists themselves, as three hundred of them come from all over the country to take part in every edition of the festival that does not receive any government support or other form of sponsorship.

Opis:
Performance is an occurrence commonly associated with theater, but that concept has a very broad context. Nowadays there are a lot of phenomena we can perceive this way, not just theatrical or quasi-theatrical. If we assume that the most important aspect in this field is „eventness”, almost everything could be called a performance. This specific type of phenomenon (also of aesthetic nature) can be divided into cultural performances, technological performances and organizational performances (source: J. McKenzie) or otherwise into cultural and language performances (source: M. Carlson). In the category of cultural performances we can enter a whole multiplicity of occurrences or events, including festivals, for which eventness, liminality, a kind of subversive or ritualization are an absolute necessity. From this point of view we can also consider our indigenous Polish Woodstock Festival, providing a lot reflections: cultural, social and also aesthetic. Assuming that this festival is a part of aesthetics of the performance, we can expect fulfillment of three functions mentioned by McKenzie: (1) self-reflection and social reflection, (2) presentation of alternatives and (3) possibility for maintenance or changes. It is worth to think about festival’s liminality and context to see how, during a couple of summer days, hundreds of thousands of people participate in one of the largest cultural performance.

Opis:
This paper, based on the results of a field research, presents an intercultural folklore festival, along with the world of cultural heritage and folkloristic traditions, as a dynamic and self-updating sociocultural construct, that despite the strong institacutionalization, mythologizing and hegemony still has a large potential for emancipation. This event is not entirely artifi cially created by widely understood experts, activists and leaders of folkloristic movement, according to presumed needs and preferences of festival audiences, but it is also an immanent reality, constantly being created by all participants. It is a metacommentary of contemporary folk actuality, constructed and negotiated in the course of interactions, activities and meaningful social practices which have highly performative character.

Opis:
The 2012 Globe to Globe Festival proved a great success. Actors, directors, musicians, dancers, designers and technicians travelled from all over the world to perform on the Globe stage. Visitors to London’s Cultural Olympiad enjoyed six jam-packed weeks of Shakespeare, presented in an array of international languages. The Globe’s Artistic Director, Dominic Dromgoole, and his Festival Director, Tom Bird, had achieved what seemed, to many, the impossible. Nonetheless, filmed interviews with Dromgoole and Bird, conducted during the festival by the American documentary-maker Steve Rowland, offer tantalizing insights into the genesis of the festival venture. These candid interviews confirm the sometimes farcical, often exhausting, but invariably serendipitous truth behind the Globe to Globe Festival’s short, intense history. Although the Globe was “flying completely blind,” it still succeeded in hosting a glorious feast of Shakespearean delights, seasoned with the strong spice of multiculturality.

Opis:
The author discusses a new method, rarely used in Poland so far − a method of mapping cultural industries and creative industries. The concept of mapping creative industries is founded on the Anglo-Saxon ground and goes beyond the usual plotting of the maps. This method enables countries, regions and cities to estimate the value of the creative sectors. It is based on determining a set of analytical methods for collecting and presenting information on the scale and the scope of the creative industries. In mapping, both quantitative and qualitative methods are used, as well as such sources of knowledge, as literature review, analysis of official government data, research on specific sectors, analysis of data from non-governmental sources, analysis of the industry informants and case studies. Mapping can be a valuable tool in lobbying the creative class, but its main purpose is to deepen the knowledge about this sector of the economy, which is still not sufficiently analyzed. The author considers and analyses not only mapping as a way to describe the dynamic sectors of culture, but also the very definition of mapping the creative sector, outlining the opinion and comments of Krzysztof Stachowiak, a researcher of problems of concentration of cultural industries. What serves as a frame of the article, is the description of the film industry growing currently in Gdynia and the ways in which this mini-industry can bedescribed using the principles of mapping creative industries.

Opis:
The author emphasizes the importance of synergy in three humanistic pedagogical ideas involved in the practice of cultural activities, these are: community arts, cultural animation, public pedagogy. These ideas are ideologically and theoretically rooted in the heritage of contestation movements of the 1960’s. In this text we can find the characteristics of these three ideas and a short elaboration of one example of intercultural artistic events which this synergy clearly presents.

The article presents historical and cultural facts concerning cultural cooperation between the two countries.
