    This paper seeks to resolve the problem of redefining cultural boundaries. Therefore, the following questions are addressed: 1) To what do cultural boundaries refer, and of what do they basically consist? 2) On what conditions and to what extent is the metaphor of cultural boundaries appropriate? 3) On what conditions can cultural boundaries be broken or crossed? These questions are examined based on a philosophical analysis that draws from Dave Elder-Vass’s The Reality of Social Construction (2012) and Alasdair MacIntyre’s Whose Justice? Which Rationality? (2003). As a major result, it is shown that the metaphor of boundaries is an appropriate tool for cultural studies, insofar as it helps to explain why different norms are followed in different cultures, and how cultural conflicts are related to breaking of norms endorsed and enforced by different social groups. The metaphor of boundaries fits this task, because with the help of it different cultures and social groups can be structured and represented as distinct collective entities, yet with blurred and changing borders, that can side, collide, and overlap with each other.

    The article reveals the actual for the modern human knowledge problem of specific of national culture in a European context through a philosophical and theoretical analysis of the cultural phenomenon of symbiosis as a major mechanism of Belarusian tradition. Author proves that the history and logic of the Belarusian-Polish cultural relations can be represented as a sequence and set of several "cultural experiences". Considered specifics of the Polish-Belarusian literature Romanticism as one of the most representative manifestations of the symbiotic nature of cultural correlations of Belarus. It is concluded that "the Belarusian cultural model" as a model of synthetic boundary cultural co-existence can be regarded as one of the most productive and heuristically important ones for a globalizing world.

    Selected issues in regional syntax questions in the language of Kurier Wileński from the years 1924–1939The article presents issues of choice in the scope of regional syntax. These are characteristics the most characteristic for the syntax of north and east Borderland.The analysis of the collected syntax characteristics was conducted by means of Kurier Wileński material.48 types of specific syntax structures were excerpted from the questioned newspaper (29 of them were chosen in this article for presentation). In Kurier Wileński one finds north Borderland syntax questions (ones the most often described in the literature of the subject), and several specific constructions functioning in the post-war Vilnius newspapers, however not registered earlier on the Borderland.The text frequency of the structures was diverse. One noted the most often specific constructions with the preposition dla (127 certifications), and adjectival predicatives in ablative (111), as well as nominal sentences without copula (49), and the following structures: w Białorusi / do Białorusi (34), łotewska i estońska delegacje (28), chronić od czegoś (27), czekać czegoś (22). However the greatest amount of syntax characteristics occasionally occurred in the questioned texts (1–2 certifications).As it was proved by the analysis, more than 70% of the syntax characteristics found in Kurier Wileński are the loan translations of Russian structures (at the same time nearly all the remaining constructions are based on Russian language). In the subsequent newspapers the percentage of Russicisms was even higher. On these grounds the north Borderland syntax was and is highly Russificated. Избранные явления синтаксических особенностей регионального польского языка в газете «Kurier Wileński» 1924–1939 годовВ настоящей статье представлены избранные синтаксические явления регионального варианта польского языка в период двадцатилетия между первой и второй мировыми войнами. Это нaиболее характерные особенности синтаксиса северо-восточных районов польского государства. Анализ синтаксических явлений проведен по текстам ежедневной газеты «Kurier Wileński». В исследуемом журнале автором обнаруженo 48 типов своеобразных региональных синтаксических конструкций – 29 из них показаны в настоящей статье. В газете «Kurier Wileński» появились характерные синтаксические явления (чаще всего описываемые в литературе предмета), а также немало конструкций, функционирующих в послевоенной вильнюсской прессе и в письменном польском языке межвоенного периода в Советской Беларуси, которые на территории бывших северо-восточных районов польского государства раньше не регистрировались. Текстуальная частотность своеобразных синтаксических структур различна. Чаще всего отмечались особенные конструкции с предлогом для (127 примеров) и именные части составного именного сказуемого, употребляемые в форме творительного падежа (111), а также предложения с нулевой связкой (49) и следующие конструкции: w Białorusi / do Białorusi (34), łotewska i estońska delegacje (28), chronić od czegoś (27), czekać czegoś (22). Большинство, однако, синтаксических особенностей в исследуемых текстах, засвидетельствованы единичными примерами (1–2 примера). Как показал анализ, свыше 70% синтаксических явлений в газете «Kurier Wileński» это кальки русских структур. Почти все остальные конструкции поддерживались влиянием русского языка. В журналах позднейшего периода процент русизмов еще больший. Таким образом, синтаксис севернокресовой польской прессы был и в дальнейшем остается под очень сильным влиянием русского языка.

    This article examines the issue of crossing cultural and linguistic boundaries in the novels of the two Austrian writers who come from the borderland. On the example of fate of a woman, the autobiographical novel Engel des Vergessens by Maja Haderlap presents historical and social conditions determining the memory of the Slovenian minority in Austria, confronted with the official cultural memory of German-speaking Austrians. On the other hand, the case of Emma in Sabine Gruber’s Stillbach oder die Sehnsucht is a close-up of the complex south-ern Tyrolean situation after the annexation of this region by Fascist Italy. The problem of transgression involves both the heroines of the novels and the authors to the same extent.
    Das Anliegen dieses Beitrags besteht darin, die Problematik der Überquerung kultureller und sprachlicher Grenzen in den Romanen zweier österreichischer Autorinnen, die aus Grenzgebieten stammen, zu untersuchen. Am Beispiel des Schicksals der weiblichen Figur in Maja Haderlaps autobiographischem Roman Engel des Vergessens werden die das Gedächtnis der slowenischen Minderheit in Österreich determinierenden historisch-gesellschaftli- chen Verhältnisse gezeigt, die dem offiziellen kulturellen Gedächtnis der deutschsprachigen Österreicher gegenübergestellt werden. Im Fall von Emma aus dem Roman Stillbach oder die Sehnsucht von Sabine Gruber wird hingegen die komplizierte Lage der Südtiroler nach der Annexion der Region durch das faschistische Italien näher betrachtet. Hieraus ist ersichtlich, dass das Problem der Transgression die Figuren wie auch die Autorinnen selbst in gleichem Maße betrifft.
    Celem artykułu jest zbadanie problematyki przekraczania granic kulturo-wych i językowych w powieściach dwóch pisarek austriackich pochodzących w terenów pogranicza. Na przykładzie losów postaci kobiecej w autobiograficznej powieści Engel des Vergessens Mai Haderlap przedstawione zostały uwarunkowania historyczno-społeczne determinujące pamięć mniejszości słoweńskiej w Austrii, skonfrontowaną z oficjalną pamięcią kulturową niemieckojęzycznych Austriaków. W powieści Sabine Gruber Stillbach oder die Sehnsucht przypadek Emmy prezentuje złożoność sytuacji południowych Tyrolczyków po aneksji regionu przez faszystowskie Włochy. Tekst udowadnia, że problem transgresji dotyczy w takim samym stopniu bohaterek utworów, jak i autorek tekstów.
