In contrast to Derrida and Butler, who overemphasized the subversive force of performatives, here the focus is on the immanent (micro-)sovereign power of performative utterances. Hence, what is proposed here is a search for the basic concept of power at the micro-level of speech acts. Before being codified with reference to certain stable power relations or contexts and before being objectified in different forms of domination and/or violence, power must be analyzed at the level of immediate performatives, where the struggle for power-codification could be followed in vivo. A task like this requires a conceptual shift: the illocutionary force of speech acts must be reinterpreted as their immediate evaluative force, i.e. as illocutionary power. Taking into account Derrida’s critique of Austin’s theory of speech acts, we should recognize that performatives are not singular or atomistic speech acts, nor are they pre-determined by certain already given contexts or procedures. They are embedded in a citation and trace signs, without any final or autonomous signification. And yet, performatives have a specific kind of sovereignty. It is not the sovereignty of the ‘act’ itself but of the act’s performance. The actual (in the sense of ‘ongoing’) performance has an immediate force that is irreversible and also non-citable. Even in the case of a direct citation, a citing performance sediments into an irreversible arrow, thus immediately reordering and re-evaluating all points in its trajectory. This performance does not fulfill a perspective, but it irreversibly forms a perspective. This effect of the virtuosity of an immediate performance could be called the power effect since it not only demonstrates how we make things with words, but also how we re-evaluate the things that were made through words. If an ongoing performance is such an immediate source of micro-power, then its role is not only to be ironically subversive and resistant to the already existing macro-codifications of power and domination. Performatives have their own sovereign power and are therefore capable of a direct affirmation and re-affirmation of the intersubjective frames of our experience.

In respect for the tentative ways of knowing critical pedagogy, I choose not to define the notion, but rather discuss it from my point of view. It is easier to begin by discussion on what critical pedagogy is not: Critical pedagogy is not prescriptive way of teaching. It is not teacher-proof because it invites teachers to make their own decisions. It is expected to be student-centered but does not prioritize that the student has more to say than the teacher. It is respectful of different traditions, different ways of seeing the world. I would say that critical pedagogy is couched in literacies and, in a non-academic sense, it is couched in the notion of Paulo Freire’s notion of reading the world... the word becomes less important than the world, once one understands the world, cultures, societies, people actually do read the word better. For the purpose of this essay, I embed quotes from Freire’s work to include his voice within the text. There’s no such thing as neutral education. This article is first of all a theoretical study covering the whole area of critical thinking. The development of critical thinking should be supported by new information technologies. The text only points to some possibilities of using information technologies in the concept of building learning power and critical thinking. The development of information technologies gives us new tools and forms to support the teaching/learning processes. Many of the new tools of digital technology pose new teaching challenges for the teacher. However, there appears a question that is not only worth asking, but also worth answering: how to improve the teaching/learning process with the help of the new educational opportunities, so as to strengthen it and not to disturb it at the same time? A tutor-teacher has to search and to find out – in the area of these educational opportunities that belong to him or her and his or her pupils – such optimal solutions that neatly combine both the elements of traditional teaching and the ones that are typical of distance learning. This gives new opportunities for effective online tutoring when the teacher is available online for any of the students at a specific time that is perfectly convenient for each of them.

Research background: Although the literature on power asymmetry and power dynamics has recognized the issue of factors that cause power shifts in business-to-business relationships, a more systematic approach and research framework regarding the identification of these factors is lacking. There are attempts in business-to-business literature to use the critical incident technique to study dynamic phenomena, but there are no studies on the factors that increase and decrease the power of suppliers in their relationships with dominant buyers. Purpose of the article: The aim of this paper is to identify the factors that influence the most significant changes in suppliers' power in relationships with dominant buyers. An important objective is also to determine to which power sources the identified factors are assigned. This is crucial for business practitioners, who will be able to adjust their actions when managing a relationship with a dominating partner through knowledge of their own strengths as well as weaknesses. Methods: The study is based on analysis of questionnaires with open-ended questions, and uses the critical incident technique to investigate the behaviour of dyadic parties at key moments in buyer-seller relationships. We have focused on investigation of manufacturing companies mainly from the furniture, construction, energy and printing industries. The analysis of the data was based on the abductive approach as a combination of inductive and deductive coding. Findings & value added: In comparison to previous studies, which did not distinguish the level of importance of each factor, we have obtained only those factors with the greatest impact on power dynamics. We have also obtained factors which can decrease suppliers' power, whereas the literature focuses mostly on factors increasing suppliers' power. The research results reveal the factors that affect an increase and decrease in the power of weaker suppliers in relationships with dominant buyers. First- and second-order factors were identified, and subsequently 3 overarching dimensions for each increase and decrease in supplier power were deduced from the results. The most important overall dimension for the increase in power was the building of suppliers' power capabilities, while the decrease in suppliers' power was most influenced by transactional changes and changes in buyer's expectations. The results can be helpful for managers in focusing their attention on expert power in order to gain knowledge and prepare a practical background for managing asymmetric relationships. It is important to mention that the critical incident technique used in this study has not yet been used to represent power dynamics in B2B relationship literature.

W niniejszym artykule zamierzam porównać analizę skoncentrowaną na interakcji i krytyczną analizę dyskursu, które – choć obie są charakterystyczne dla socjologicznej analizy dyskursu – mają status opozycyjnych względem siebie ze względu na zakorzenienie w innych tradycjach teoretycznych i konkurencyjnych modelach życia społecznego. Chciałabym poddać refleksji i testowi empirycznemu ich opozycyjny status i zastanowić się, czy badacz w konfrontacji z konkretnym materiałem musi między nimi wybierać, na czym może oprzeć swój wybór oraz, ewentualnie, czy i jak może je połączyć w interpretacji, wykorzystując model nakładających się kontekstów.
In the article the author compares interactional conversation analysis and critical discourse analysis with regard to context selection for the interpretation of talk. Both approaches are considered appropriate for sociological type of discourse analysis, but they commonly appear as opposite options because of their backgrounds within different theoretical traditions and contradictory models of social life. Relying on theoretical considerations and empirical tests, the author offers the way for linking both approaches by means of the dynamic model of overlapping contexts.

The study presents the results of theoretical investigations into lateral torsional buckling (LTB) of bi-symmetric I-beams, elastically restrained against warping at supports. Beam loading schemes commonly used in practice are taken into account. The whole range of stiffness of the support joints, from free warping to warping fully restrained, is considered. To determine the critical moment, the energy method is used. The function of the beam twist angle is described with power polynomials that have simple physical interpretation. Computer programs written in symbolic language for numerical analysis are developed. General approximation formulas are devised. Detailed calculations are performed for beams with end-plate joints. Critical moments determined with programs and approximation formulas are compared with the results obtained by other researchers and with those produced by FEM. Very good accuracy of results is obtained.
Współcześnie stosowane metody projektowania elementów stalowych zmierzają do uwzględnienia szeregu parametrów poprawiających sposób odwzorowania rzeczywistych warunków pracy konstrukcji w inżynierskim modelu obliczeniowym. Jednym z istotnych parametrów jest wpływ sprężystego zamocowania przeciw spaczeniu przekrojów podporowych na moment krytyczny zwichrzenia belek. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań teoretycznych zwichrzenia bisymetrycznych belek dwuteowych sprężyście zamocowanych przeciw spaczeniu na podporach. Uwzględniono często występujące w praktyce schematy obciążenia. Stopień sprężystego zamocowania przeciw spaczeniu opisano współczynnikiem ε wg wzoru (3.1) [8,12] uwzględniającym sztywność sprężystego zamocowania αw wg wzoru (3.2) [8,12]. Współczynnik sprężystego zamocowania zmienia się od ε = 0 dla zupełnej swobody spaczenia, do ε = ∞ dla pełnej blokady spaczenia. W pracy wprowadzono dodatkowo bezwymiarowy wskaźnik utwierdzenia κ wg wzoru (3.3), zmieniający się od κ = 0 dla zupełnej swobody spaczenia do κ = 1 dla pełnej blokady spaczenia.

Schools in general and classrooms in particular are among society’s primary socializing institutions (Freeman and McElhinny, 1996, p. 261; Adger, 2001). In particular, education, as an institution of Gramsci’s ‘civil society’ (Jones, 2006), can be considered a grassroots space where hegemonic gendered and sexual identities are constructed and regulated. This article looks at the context of the EFL classroom – a discursive space where learners are potentially (re-)constructed in relation to various (gender) roles in society as well as learning the practices, values and rules of a given society at large. In this paper we explore and discuss how the categories of gender and sexuality are represented, (re-)constructed and generally dealt with in this learning environment. We follow Foucault’s (1978, 1979) conceptualization of power as something which “weaves itself discursively through social organizations, meanings, relations and the construction of speakers’ subjectivities or identities” (Baxter, 2003, p. 8) and is enacted and contested in every interaction (see Mullany, 2007). We see power as being produced, reproduced, challenged and resisted in the EFL classroom in connection with the construction of gender and sexuality. The article discusses how views on what/who is ‘powerful’ in the context of the EFL classroom have changed over the years, from the early privileging of textbooks to the currently advocated central role of the teacher in addressing and promoting (or not) traditional and/or progressive discourses of gender and sexuality. Critical pedagogies and queer pedagogies are discussed as offering educators potent insights and tools to deal with heteronormativity and various forms of discrimination in the EFL classroom as well as helpful means for empowering all students by addressing their various identities. It is thus our contention that relationships between gender, sexuality and EFL education are in need of urgent (re)addressing as existing research is outdated, lacks methodological sophistication or is lacking in the Polish context.

In the paper presented are definitions of specific indicators of power which characterize the operation of the organic Rankine cycle (ORC) plant. These quantities have been presented as function of evaporation temperature for selected working fluids of ORC installation. In the paper presented also is the procedure for selection of working fluid with the view of obtaining maximum power. In the procedure of selection of working fluid the mentioned above indicators are of primary importance. In order to obtain maximum power there ought to be selected such working fluids which evaporate close to critical conditions. The value of this indicator increases when evaporation enthalpy decreases and it is known that the latent heat of evaporation decreases with temperature and reaches a value of zero at the critical point.

Cybersecurity is still considered a purely technological challenge; however, despite all technological progress, this challenge remains unsolved – as emphasized by many high-impact attacks against public administration and industry worldwide. We postulate that the mere focus on technology fogs the bigger picture, since people generate, operate, and interact with all technological systems, thus making them socio-technical systems. Hence, in this commentary we argue for a change of perspective towards a holistic, interdisciplinary view on our technological infrastructure. By example of the European power grid – inarguably a critical infrastructure not only for daily life but also for the continuity of our polity – we show that through interpretation as a socio-technical system, systematic and interdisciplinary studies would allow to reveal how its (cyber)security is not only a technological matter. An interdisciplinary approach combining STEM disciplines and Social Sciences would additionally advance the understanding of stakeholders and their goals and mindsets as well as the manifold dependencies between technology and human actors. While interdisciplinary endeavours appear to be generally supported by funding agencies, reviewers, universities, and researchers, they rarely occur in practice. We discuss why this is the case and present ideas on how to facilitate more interdisciplinary research.

The analysis in this article provides an overview of the research on the current relations among countries of the South China Sea basin. For this purpose, I have decided to apply the geopolitical research workshop, focusing on its contemporary approach. On the one hand, this work uses the available indicators and index to gauge the level of development, economic and demographic potential, and military expenditure of these states. On the other hand, an effort was made to analyze and measure power, taking into account the changing geopolitical status of countries in this sub-region. Contemporary geopolitics in this context allows to verify the scale of the impact on permanent environmental and geographic factors (e.g. publicized investments carried out by the People’s Republic of China in Mischief Reef, Fiery Cross, Subi Reef and Woody Island) and the elaboration of proposals going beyond the classical, geopolitical framework (morphological, political and military factors). Therefore, this article also includes the use of geopolitical codes to assess the current strategies of these countries and to describe potential scenarios of actors’ behaviour in the sub-region.

W latach 1961-1972 zbudowano w Instytucie Badań Jądrowych w Świerku k/Warszawy cztery zestawy krytyczne, zwane też reaktorami mocy zerowej znane pod nazwami: ANNA, MARYLA, AGATA i PANNA. Służyły one do badań w zakresie eksperymentalnej fizyki reaktorów jądrowych w trzech dziedzinach: statyki, kinetyki i szumów (fluktuacji) strumienia neuronów, co w bardziej zrozumiałym języku można określić jako: oceny osiągnięcia stanu krytycznego, odpowiedzi strumienia neutronów na wprowadzenie zaburzenia zewnętrznego i badania procesu stochastycznego rozszczepienia co objawia się wahaniami strumienia neutronów na poziomie ok. plus/minus jednego procenta. Poza tym w 1963 r. zbudowano zestaw podkrytyczny HELENA do badania metod pomiarowych w zakresie statyki reaktorów i jako stałe źródło neutronów do badania produkowanych wówczas w IBJ przyrządów (komór rozszczepieniowych) do pomiaru strumienia neutronów. W artykule opisano budowę i pokrótce prowadzone badania na tych zestawach.
Between 1961-1972 four critical assemblies, also called zero-power reactors, were constructed at the Institute of Nuclear Research (INR) at Swierk (near Warsaw) known under the names: ANNA, MARYLA, AGATA and PANNA. They were used for experiments in the three domains of nuclear reactor physics: static, kinetics and noise measurements. These experiments may be described as operation of a reactor with: steady state of neutron flux, changes in neutron flux due to external disturbance in composition of a reactor material and fluctuation of neutron flux due to stochastic character of a chain reaction in a range of plus/minus one percent. In addition in 1963 a subcritical assembly HELENA was constructed for verification of some measurement methods in reactor physics and as a neutron source for checking of neutron detectors (fission chambers) constructed at the INR. The paper presents the construction and the experiments performed using these assemblies.

The article presents a critical discourse analysis of media coverage of the most important Lithuanian strategic object - the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant INPP - in the three biggest news portals. Media news focuses mostly on certain aspects of decommissioning of the INPP management issues and the transparency of financing mechanisms. Environmental and social aspects of the decommissioning are not sufficiently disclosed and discussed. The community of Visaginas the satellite town for the workers of the INPP remains an invisible and silent actor of the discourse. In the media news portals, the town is portrayed as disconnected from the INPP. This divide could be explained by assuming that after the closure of the INPP as a major feeding enterprise the town must search for a re-definition of its identity and construct this identity without nuclear energy and without the INPP. On the other hand, such a divide reflects a common trend characteristic of the entire nuclear discourse - to disempower communities and the public, create a boundary between the industry and the public, between the experts and ordinary citizens.

Są to: idea kształcenia ustawicznego i koncepcja całożyciowego uczenia się. Są one kognitywnymi instrumentami sprawowania władzy politycznej i osiąganiu w społeczeństwach rozwiniętych demokracji stanu rządomyślności (governmentality).
Due to the political entanglements of social studies, research on adult education is also ideologically driven. The author proves this thesis by analysing the contents of two leading concepts which have dominated our thinking on the adult education sector in the last several decades. These ideas are: continuing education and lifelong learning. They are cognitive instruments of governing and achieving the state of governmentality in the societies of developed democratic countries.

Opis:
The purpose of this work is to demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages of unmanned aerial vehicles as devices supporting the system of physical protection of critical infrastructure facilities using the example of a nuclear power plant. This paper contains information on the reasons for the construction of a nuclear power plant in the era of economic development of the Polish state. The legal requirements consisting of the analysis of the risk of terrorist threats for the facility was indicated. One of the sources of danger is unmanned aircraft or flying models increasingly used in the airspace. Furthermore, this paper presents legal rules and principles according to which missions of unmanned aerial vehicles or flying models are performed. The current regulations allow the use of unmanned aerial vehicles as devices supporting physical security systems at facilities. This study showed that although the use of unmanned aircraft for the purpose of increasing the security level of critical infrastructure facilities has some limitations, however, the possibilities arising from their usefulness are the decisive advantage of the need to implement drone technology in security.

Niniejszy artykuł poświęcony jest analizie relacji władzy/nadrzędności między pracodawcami i potencjalnymi pracownikami, jakie odzwierciedlane są w strukturach gramatycznych ogłoszeń rekrutacyjnych. Tło dla badania stanowią założenia teoretyczne Krytycznej Analizy Dyskursu oraz koncepcje związane z zagadnieniami budowania marki pracodawcy, w myśl których zatrudniający powinni traktować obecnych i przyszłych pracowników w sposób podobnie rzetelny i troskliwy, w jaki traktują klientów. Analiza warstwy gramatycznej 236 ogłoszeń rekrutacyjnych ma na celu zbadanie, czy struktury gramatyczne występujące w korpusie odzwierciedlają zrównoważoną relację między pracodawcami i kandydatami oraz równomierność i obopólność korzyści. Wyniki badania, szczególnie te odnoszące się do użycia zaimków osobowych i czasowników modalnych, sugerują, że relacje te nie są w pełni równorzędne.
The paper attempts to investigate power relations between employers and potential employees as reflectedin the grammar of job advertising discourse. Drawing on the premises of Critical Discourse Analysisand the concepts of Employer Branding, whereby employers are encouraged to treat existing and futureemployees with a similar (if not the same) care and coherence as they would value customers, the studyseeks to examine whether the grammatical structures identified in a corpus of 236 branded job ads mayindeed be regarded as reflecting a balanced relationship and full reciprocity of benefits between employersand job seekers. The findings, particularly those pertaining to the use of modal verbs and personalpronouns, seem to imply that the power relations between employers and potential employees should notbe perceived as entirely equal.
