In all the volumes of Annales. Ethics in Economy there are several interesting papers about the ethics of teaching in academic schools. I would like to add my paper to this collection at the conference in 2007. In my paper I write about my own experiences during the work with students in several schools. In this description I use the method of job analysis recommended by the International Labour Organization in Geneva: the praxeological method of prof. Kotarbiński and an encyclical of John Paul II. I attempt to prove the thesis that teaching of ethics to students makes sense and gives results only when the teacher is able to convince young people to the value of honest work in their personal lives. This thesis may be promoted by positively motivated teachers and well organized working processes in the school.

The Courage Measure (CM), developed by Norton and Weiss (2009) has proved to be a significant predictor of a behavioral approach in a fear-eliciting situation. The current research project aimed to replicate this result, using a shortened version of the scale, whose psychometric superiority over the full version has been supported by previous studies. For this purpose, in Study 1 the psychometric properties of the Polish version of the CM (CM-PL) were analyzed; the results supported its unidimensional structure and measurement invariance across gender groups, as well as good internal consistency. Study 1 also provided preliminary evidence of the convergent, concurrent and divergent validity of CM-PL, showing its relation to resilience, grit, risk-taking and the Big Five personality traits. In Study 2, 31 participants with an elevated fear of spiders completed a behavioral approach test in which they moved ever closer to a display of taxidermied spiders. The results showed that the CM-PL significantly moderated the relationship between anxiety/distress and the behavioral approach, confirming its relation to real behavior. Overall, the results confirmed that CM-PL is a valuable measure that can be useful in scientific research and psychological practice (i.e., counseling and psychotherapy).

The Catholic Church is experiencing a Synod on Synodality from October 17, 2021, by decision of the Holy Father Francis. The aim of the Synod is to revive this forgotten form of life for all members of the Church and to make it the natural style of their life. The synodal walk in faith (syn - together; hodos - journey) increasingly counts on the laity and the use of their potential in bearing responsibility for the Church. The current Synod is both an invitation and a chance to learn to listen to one another, to talk about living the faith and to discern correctly what the Holy Spirit wants to remind his Church today. In the documents of the Magisterium for the synodal process there is the word parrhesia (Gr. παρρησία), the content of which is no longer obvious. “All are invited to speak with courage and parrhesia, that is, integrating freedom, truth, and charity” (Preparatory Document, 30). In this paper we will discuss the meaning of this term primarily from a biblical perspective. We note that it is a special charism of the Holy Spirit. Using specific passages from the New Testament and the Eastern liturgy as examples, the paper reveals the richness of content and the practical use of parrhesia in the synodal walk.

Human development is closely related to the process of shaping personality traits e.g. courage which plays a particularly important role in life. The notion of courage refers to the ancient understanding of the word arête whose meaning evolved and suggested the need to be able to control oneself. It is worth presenting and deepening the modern understanding of courage in the context of the scout educational program popularized by A. Kamiński. The case study of a courageous girl scout who faced numerous consequences of protecting values shows that courage is of great importance these days. The process of forming the education of tomorrow should be based on human experience and ensure the transmission of the most important values to the process of upbringing in the future.
Rozwój człowieka wiąże się z kształtowaniem cech charakteru, wśród których szczególne miejsce zajmuje dzielność. Nawiązuje ona do starożytnego rozumienia znaczenia słowa arete, które ewaluowało i implikowało potrzebę kształtowania umiejętności panowania nad sobą. Warto przedstawić i pogłębić współczesne rozumienie dzielności, zwłaszcza poprzez ukazanie jej w kontekście harcerskiego programu wychowawczego propagowanego przez A. Kamińskiego. Także analiza przypadku dzielnej harcerki, która poniosła wiele konsekwencji opowiedzenia się po stronie wartości, pokazuje, jakie znaczenie ma dzielność dzisiaj. Kreowanie kształtu edukacji jutra winno nawiązywać do zdobytych doświadczeń i w ten sposób zapewnić transmisję najważniejszych wartości do wychowania w przyszłości.

According to Fredrickson’s (1998, 2001) “Broaden-and-Built Theory of Positive Emotions”positive emotions have different effects in social life and are based on different mechanisms than negative emotions do. Moreover positive emotions vary among themselves – there are quality differences between them and they shall not be treated only as a single positive mood. Three simple studies presented here and inspired by the Fredrickson’s theory demonstrate that amusement, in comparison to neutral condition as well as to another positive emotion, may serve as a social courage engine. Amused participants were more courageous in the radio (study 1) as well as in the TV interview (study 2) and declared more courage in case of meeting new hypothetical person (study 3).

Michel Foucault defined parrhesia as “the free courage by which one binds oneself in the act of telling the truth.” Could telling objective untruth also be a parrhesiastic act, insofar as it requires courage and initiates subjectivation? Climate deniers, anti-vaccinationists and other groups that delegitimize the authority of science present themselves as courageously standing up against the dominant discourse, as rebellious subjects who speak the inconvenient and unaccepted truths. It is not difficult to prove that their truths are untruths, but it remains problematic to distinguish true courage from its simulacra. This article argues that Foucault’s investigations of truth, subjectivity, and power become of great use in the face of today’s confusion. The phenomenon of post-truth cannot be explained simply as the product of postmodern relativism. The will-to-truth, along with the will to constitute oneself as a truth-telling subject, persists, requiring critical analysis more than ever. What may prove politically efficient is to engage in the kind of critique that would account for actual power relations and unmask false courage rather than debunk specific concepts or ideas.

The article attempts to analyse and interpret the man’s behaviour (actions) in different situations of threat and in different historical epochs. These are behaviours which can be described as heroic, courageous, valorous and dauntless, aimed at defending other people and bringing help at the risk of endangering one’s own life and health. The analysis covered the helpful behaviour of the Good Samaritan and David’s defensive combat from the Biblical period and, from the contemporary times, a certain priest’s behaviour during the black smallpox epidemic in Wroclaw and Antoni Zdrojewski’s defensive combat during the Second World War.

Setna rocznica odzyskania przez Polskę niepodległości z perspektywy pedagogicznej niewątpliwie staje się okazją do podjęcia refleksji nad współczesnym rozumieniem patriotyzmu. Wychowanie społeczne, jako wyraz troski o kształtowanie patriotyzmu, skłania do odczytania na nowo postaw odwagi i służby. Jest to szczególnie ważne, gdyż obie te postawy mogą bardzo łatwo ulec niewłaściwej interpretacji, a w skrajnym przypadku przybrać zdegenerowane formy bohaterszczyzny i dehumanizacji. Istotnym zadaniem okzuje się więc poszukiwanie możliwości właściwego ich kształtowania. Szukając rozwiązania tego dylematu, można z całą pewnością wskazać, że sprzyjającym kontekstem oddziaływania pedagogicznego w tym obszarze jest przede wszystkim troska o właściwie rozumianą wolność jednostki oraz dbałość o to, aby odwadze nie towarzyszył brak wyobraźni. Fundamentalnym jest powiązanie ich z odpowiedzialnością za to, co określa się mianem dobra wspólnego.
From the pedagogical perspective, the 100th anniversary of regaining independence by Poland undoubtedly becomes an opportunity to reflect on the contemporary understanding of patriotism. Social education, as an expression of concern for the shaping of patriotism, prompts us to re-read the attitudes of courage and service. This is especially important as both of these aspects can very easily be misinterpreted, and in extreme cases they can take on degenerate forms of heroism and dehumanization. An important task, therefore, is to look for opportunities to shape these attitudes properly. Seeking a solution to this dilemma, it can be certainly pointed out, that proper understanding of individual freedom as well as care for courage not to be accompanied by lack of imagination should be the favorable context of pedagogical influence in this area. It is fundamental to link the attitudes mentioned above with responsibility for what is called the common good.

The similitude between anxiety and death is the starting point of Paul Tillich's analysis from The Courage To Be, his famous theological and philosophical reply to Martin Heidegger's Being And Time. Not only Tillich and Heidegger are concerned with the connection between anxiety and death but also other proponents of both existentialism and nihilism like Friedrich Nietzsche, Emil Cioran and Lev Shestov. Tillich observes that "anxiety puts frightening masks" over things and perhaps this definition is its finest contribution to the spectacular phenomenology of anxiety. Moreover, Tillich has some illuminating insights about the anxiety of emptiness and meaninglessness, which are important for the history of the existential philosophy. It is interesting how the protestant theologian tries to answer to Heidegger: while the German philosopher asserted that we must avoid fear and we have to embrace anxiety as a route to personal authenticity, Tillich notes that we should transform anxiety into fear, because courage is more likely to "abolish" fear.

The article is devoted to the issue of responsible parenthood, which was formulated in the encyclical Humane Vitae by Paul VI in 1968. The content of the encyclical referred primarily to the issue of responsibility arising from fertilization. The author of the article relates the issue of parental responsibility to the care of a child with mild mental disability. Parental childcare is a consequence of calling the child to live. The author of the article analyses the issue of responsible parenting from the philosophical perspective and thus focuses on the recognition of the world of values by the parent-guardian of a person with intellectual disability. Close relationships with such a person require special spiritual, moral, and axiological sensitivity. The author of the article, in addition to the encyclical Humane Vitae, has been inspired by the reflections of Jean Vanier and Julia Kristeva on disability, resulting from two religious and secular perspectives.

Der heilige Augustinus war ein wahrer Liebhaber der Geschichte und Kultur des antiken Roms. In diesem Geist ist er aufgewachsen, diese Literatur hat seine Jugend geprägt, er selbst fühlte sich als Mitglied der römischen Gesellschaft. Noch am Ende seines Lebens hat ihn eine tiefe Unsicherheit eingeholt. Er – als Bischof der katholischen Kirche sollte keineswegs eine so enge Verbindung und Sentimentalität der heidnischen, aber zum Teil ehrenvollen Kultur hegen. Gleichzeitig aber, als er das große Werk De civitate Dei angefangen hatte, wollte er klar darauf hinweisen, dass die römische Gesellschaft auch nicht ohne Makel war, was schließlich zu einer Katastrophe fuhren musste. Seine Überzeugung in dem Sinne wird auf eine Ebene der Gegenseitigkeiten gebaut: auf einer Seite – tugendhafte alte Zeiten, auf der anderen Seite – heutige schlechte Gewohnheiten. Trotz der miserablen Situation seiner Zeit, möchte oder wollte der heilige Augustinus, alle positiven Taten auf der Ebene der Familie wie auch der Gesellschaft klar hervorheben (Patriotismus). Seiner Meinung nach, wurden alle Tugenden der Römer – virtus, gloria, sapientia, pietas – angesichts des ewigen Lebens, nur als „ausgezeichnete Delikte“ betrachtet.

Greckie terminy παρρησία i παρρησιάζομαι nabrały wielkiego znaczenia w Atenach w VI w. przed Chr. Określano nimi prawo wolnego obywatela do przemawiania na Zgromadzeniu Ludowym. Był on zobowiązany do mówienia prawdy nawet za cenę prześladowania. Pojęcia te funkcjonowały również w sferze prywatnej i w filozofii. Chętnie korzystali z nich autorzy Pisma Świętego (w Dz występują 11 razy). W rozdziale dziewiątym Dziejów Apostolskich św. Łukasz za pomocą czasownika παρρησιάζομαι opisuje postawę nawróconego Szawła, który głosi słowo Boże w Damaszku i Jerozolimie. Pomimo trudności, jakie się pojawiają, niczego nie zmienia w orędziu Ewangelii. Παρρησία jest charyzmatem, którym obdarowuje człowieka Duch Święty. Jego działanie jest kluczowe dla właściwego zrozumienia powyższych terminów w Dziejach. Dzięki Niemu παρρησία nie jest już przywilejem jedynie wolnych obywateli jak w starożytnych Atenach, ale łaską, która nawet prostych i nieuczonych ludzi uzdalnia do odważnego i śmiałego mówienia o Chrystusie.
The Greek terms of παρρησία and παρρησιάζομαι assumed great importance during the 6th century BC in Athens. These words defined the right of a free citizen to speak at the General Assembly. He was obligated to tell the truth, even at the expense of persecution. These concepts also functioned in the private sphere and in philosophy The authors of the Holy Scriptures eagerly used them. They occur eleven times in the Acts of the Apostles. St. Luke uses παρρησιάζομαι as a verb in chapter 9 of Acts to describe the attitude of the converted Saul who preaches the word of God in Damascus and Jerusalem. Despite the difficulties which arise, he does not change anything in the Gospel message. Παρρησία is a charisma bestowed upon man by the Holy Spirit. The action of the Holy Spirit is crucial to a proper understanding of the above terms in Acts. Because of this action, παρρησία is no longer the privilege of free citizens only, as in ancient Athens, but a grace that enables even simple and unlearned people to speak boldly and courageously about Christ.

Using the method of integrated literary analysis, the article examines comparatively the narratives of Genesis and Exodus, which in different ways explicitly or implicitly express the emotions of the female characters in a situation of trial. It emphasises the relationship between their fear and their courage, which leads them to experience the freedom to choose the ethical values of compassion, mercy and love. From these perspectives, the following texts are highlighted: the narrative of the conflict between Sarah and Hagar (Gen 16 and 21); the narrative of Isaac's marriage to Rebekah (Gen 24) and of Jacob's marriage to Leah and Rachel (Gen 29-30); and the narrative of Pharaoh's daughter's compassion for the Hebrew child Moses (Exod 1:8-2:10). The article emphasises the motif of motherhood and shows that the sense of motherhood brings wives and mothers from different cultural and religious backgrounds closer together in caring for their children and thus for the future of the family and the tribal community. In identifying the motives that influence female characters' decisions in trial, the article highlights the role of their religious sense as well as other personal and family circumstances and the expectations of the wider community.

Opis:
The Bishop of Warmia, Ignacy Krasicki, was involved in politics as a senator of the Republic and president of Prussian lands. His period of office (1766–1795) coincided with dramatic historical events, during which he had to make difficult choices. This was the case in 1767, the year of the dissident confederation and the Repninowski Parliament (Sejm). Krasicki had another dilemma in March 1768 – what position to take towards the Bar Confederates. Contrary to the expectations of King Stanisław August Poniatowski and the Russian ambassador, Repnina stood as the only senator who defended the Confederates. They intended to acquire XBW. Krasicki wanted to be neutral and in 1769 he left for France. The situation in Warmia was difficult. The bishop struggled with the Prussian threat and was alone in his actions. In the history of the state, Warmia and XBW, the first partition of Poland tragically took place in 1772. Warmia was incorporated into Prussia and the bishop became a Prussian subject. Krasicki was, however, wellversed in domestic matters. In his writings, he found psychological support and the opportunity to engage in politics. The author discusses several patriotic works in a synthetic way: The Tomb of Freedom of Poland, Hymn to the Love of the Homeland, a poem with inc. He Carried the Moment What Time Commanded, Song for the 3rd of May. She also draws attention to the novel Mr. Podstoli, praised by the king, in which the writer included his thoughts on social and political matters. To this day, Krasicki intrigues us with his smile and subdued behavior. In letters to a friend, G. Ghigiotti, he writes about he found a cure for stress.
