Many occupations in industry such as metal stamping workers, electronics parts assembly operators, automotive industry welders, and lathe operators require working in a standing posture for a long time. Prolonged standing can contribute to discomfort and muscle fatigue particularly in the back and legs. This study developed the prolonged standing strain index (PSSI) to quantify the risk levels caused by standing jobs, and proposed recommendations to minimize the risk levels. Risk factors associated with standing jobs, such as working posture, muscles activity, standing duration, holding time, whole-body vibration, and indoor air quality, were the basis for developing the PSSI. All risk factors were assigned multipliers, and the PSSI was the product of those multipliers. Recommendations for improvement are based on the PSSI; however, extensive studies are required to validate their effectiveness.

Zoonoses comprise a large percentage of all newly identified as well as already existing infectious diseases. Numerous extrinsic factors or drivers, provide conditions that allow for a selected pathogen to expand and adapt to a new niche. These are in most, ecological, political, economic, and social forces operating at local, national, regional, and global levels. Many zoonotic agents fall into the category of pathogens exhibiting extensive animal species diversity, so they can successfully infect hosts, ranging from domestic animals to wildlife - mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, but also invertebrates - insects and ticks. Zoonotic pathogens can be spreading through aerosol, direct contact, fomites, and insects (vectors) bites. However, the foodborne transmission remains a major public health threat, which is quite difficult to eradicate in the food chain. Prevention of dissemination of the zoonotic diseases is based on the identification of their causative agents and the control of their spread in animal populations. This should be effectively complemented with preventive measures in the farm – regular cleaning and disinfecting, control of vectors, food and water hygiene, herd vaccination and also antibiotic therapy, if necessary. In this article we discuss all these aspects, including farm workers personal hygiene as well, to reduce the contribution of humans as vectors of some infectious agents.

The paper describes a proposal of rock burst control measures for excavation and mining of the area the Coalface No. 1 4064, which is located in the 1st mining block of the Mining Plant 1, locality Karviná. It is an area that has been left in place as a protective area for safety reasons due to the high risk of rock bursts, and it is bordered on both sides by old workings. The aim of the proposal is to extract the retained area by using rock burst control measures to reduce this risk. As a measure, extensive disintegration of the rock massif in the overlying rocks of the seam by blasting works was chosen, both in driving mine workings and in mining of the coalface. The article describes the methods and scope of implementation of active and passive rock burst control measures in standard situations and in the case of detection of an unfavourable stress level.
W pracy opisano propozycję sposobu kontroli tąpań skał w obszarze górniczym wydobycia w ścianie nr 1 4064, która znajduje się w 1. bloku wydobywczym Zakładu Górniczego nr 1, miejscowość Karwina. Jest to obszar, który pozostawiono jako filar ochronny ze względów bezpieczeństwa z uwagi na na wysokie ryzyko przemieszczania się skał, po obu stronach graniczących ze starymi wyrobiskami. Celem opracowania jest zbadanie obszaru filara za pomocą środków do kontroli tąpania. W artykule opisano metody i zakres wdrażania aktywnych i pasywnych środków kontroli tąpania w skałach w standardowych sytuacjach oraz w przypadku wykrycia niekorzystnego poziomu stresu. Jako sposób wybrano rozległy obszar masywu skalnego gdzie obserwuje się ruchy górotworu wywołane przez roboty strzałowe. W artykule opisano metody i zakres realizacji aktywnych i pasywnych środków kontroli tąpania w warunkach standardowych oraz w przypadku wykrycia niekorzystnego poziomu naprężeń.

Implementation of European directives is closely related to the quality of production and the associated operational safety, maintenance of machines and mechanical systems, both mobile or stationary, in order to reduce the dynamic load (vibration and noise) on the working environment, not only during their operating state but also during their design, production, and setting of the vibration isolation components. Reducing the dynamic load of mechanical systems and their components is reflected in the working environment by reduced emissions and immissions of noise and vibration. The presented paper investigates the methods and conditions for noise and vibration control, focusing mainly on increasing the quality of rotating machine components, such as bearings by means of effective vibration isolation of the machines. The solution of this problem requires theoretical analysis and methodology for the measurement of the mechanical systems involved. The results of the vibroacoustic measurements were analysed in terms of the low frequency vibration and noise level (quality) of bearings and conditions for effective vibration isolation of the machines using vibroacoustic diagnostic method. Furthermore, the impact on the working environment was also analysed. Finally, the paper suggests some actions to be taken to effectively reduce the unwanted vibrosound energy in working places, also using recycled material as a vibration isolation element.

Statistical approach to Control Performance Assessment (CPA) is of great practical importance. This is particularly visible in process industry, where there are many PID loops. They are often assessed with measures derived from the Gaussian probabilistic density function. Standard deviation, variance, skewness or kurtosis form the majority of applied indexes. The review of data originating from process industry shows, however, to the contrary, that these signals have rather non-Gaussian properties and are mostly characterized by fat-tailed distribution disable the ability. Investigations show that strong disturbances may significantly disable the capacity of proper assessment. Standard measures often fail in such cases. It is shown that non-Gaussian measures can help with this problem. Various disturbances are tested and compared. Results show that fat-tailed distributions are an interesting alternative. They are less sensitive to disturbance shadowing and still make possible loop dynamic assessment.

In this paper we consider a class of distributed parameter systems (partial differential equations) determined by strongly nonlinear operator valued measures in the setting of the Gelfand triple V ↪ H ↪ V* with continuous and dense embeddings where H is a separable Hilbert space and V is a reflexive Banach space with dual V*. where A is a strongly nonlinear operator valued measure mapping Σ × V to V* with Σ denoting the sigma algebra of subsets of the set I and f is a nonlinear operator mapping I × H to H, γ is a countably additive bounded positive measure and the control u is a suitable vector measure. We present existence, uniqueness and regularity properties of weak solutions and then prove the existence of optimal controls (vector valued measures) for a class of control problems.

Opis:
The disclosure of classified information can contribute to causing threat to national security. In order to prevent such situations in the Ministry of National Defense a specialized, full-time organizational units called protection sections have been appointed. Protection sections consists of secret offices which are responsible for recording, storage, circulation, publishing and archiving of classified information. The article also highlights the key threats to classified information, and discusses the organization of secret offices in the Ministry of National Defense. The idea of “instruments of protection” have been presented to ensure the safety for both offices and for the information which is being processed.

In this note we present necessary and sufficient conditions characterizing conditionally weakly compact sets in the space of (bounded linear) operator valued measures $M_{ba}(Σ,(X,Y))$. This generalizes a recent result of the author characterizing conditionally weakly compact subsets of the space of nuclear operator valued measures $M_{ba}(Σ,₁(X,Y))$. This result has interesting applications in optimization and control theory as illustrated by several examples.

In this paper we consider a general class of systems determined by operator valued measures which are assumed to be countably additive in the strong operator topology. This replaces our previous assumption of countable additivity in the uniform operator topology by the weaker assumption. Under the relaxed assumption plus an additional assumption requiring the existence of a dominating measure, we prove some results on existence of solutions and their regularity properties both for linear and semilinear systems. Also presented are results on continuous dependence of solutions on operator and vector valued measures, and other parameters determining the system which are then used to prove some results on control theory including existence and necessary conditions of optimality. Here the operator valued measures are treated as structural controls. The paper is concluded with some examples from classical and quantum mechanics and a remark on future direction.

Objectives. The purpose of this study was to collect data on self-reported sharps injuries to develop best practices to reduce them. Methods. Data on sharps injuries were collected for the period of January–October 2008 using Adverse Event Notification Forms already in use at Sema Hospital. Results. On average, 0.2% of all self-reported injuries were sharps injuries averaging one injury per month. Housekeeping staff sustained 64% of such injuries, nurses sustained 36% (5 incidents). Outpatient clinics experienced the most injuries at 28%, followed by the Internal Diseases Inpatient Unit with 21% and the Medical Waste Room with 14%. Injuries often occurred during contact with medical waste bags (28%) and while replacing full sharp-boxes (14%). Conclusion. In summary, reducing needle stick injuries is an important component of the occupational and patient safety program at Sema Hospital. The research described in this study allowed the hospital to provide targeted interventions to increase awareness of the risks of needle stick injuries and reduce such injuries. The steps used in the study can be used in any health care organization in the world to design a customized improvement plan to reduce risk and injury.
