Currently, companies must change and evolve to keep pace with the changing environment, customers’ requirements and to be better than their competitors. The changes result from the need to adapt the products to new customers’ requirements as well as to maintain competitive prices of their products. Therefore, companies should be flexible to guarantee short lead time and minimalize their costs to offer a good price for the customers. At the same time, companies should create good work environment for their employees in order to get them involved in improvement processes. In order to survive and develop companies should motivate and involve their employees into a continuous improvement process in different areas of the company. Unfortunately, as based on the companies’ practice and previous research, in many cases employees are not willing to engage in the company development. Continuous improvement is the basis of the philosophy of Quality Management and Lean Manufacturing, which come from Toyota Production System (TPS). The TPS eventually spread throughout the world, and it is held up as an example of the proper management of a production system. The assumptions of TPS system were used to build systems in other companies, but not always with the same success as it was in Toyota. For this reason, the authors of this paper seek to answer the question of whether there are differences in engagement in a continuous improvement process between employees in a Japanese company and a Polish company operating in the same industry and realizing the similar manufacturing. In order to verify this, the research was conducted in two manufacturing companies which operate in the automotive industry. The results of the study and their analysis are presented in the work.

This article presents research results concerning designation of the scope of segregation of elements by analysing the ingot, designated for hot rolling of long products. The research tests were performed under industrial conditions, during continuous casting production cycle of high carbon steels. From cc ingots with square cross-section of 160 mm samples having the length of 400 mm were collected, out of which two samples were cut up, the so-called templates with the thickness of 20 mm. Segregation of elements was determined based on the quantitative analysis of results performed by using spark spectrometry pursuant to PN-H-04045. Changes in concentrations of elements were analysed along the line, which join the opposite sides of the sample in their half length and pass through the geometric centre of the square cross-section. In the further course of the research study, there was also determined the segregation along perpendicular line up to the surface connecting the core of the cross-section with lateral plane. Designations of element contents were performed at points distanced from each other by approx. 10 mm and situated on the lines. There was found segregation of carbon, sulphur and phosphorus.

I discuss the quantities and effects important for the freeze-out and outline a formalism for the description of continuous decoupling of particles from the fireball. Then, I present a calculation of the scattering rates of pions at various temperatures and argue that it is important to take continuous particle decoupling into account when modelling the collision dynamics.

Continuous Improvement jest koncepcją uznawaną w literaturze i praktyce zarządzania za niezbędną w dzisiejszym środowisku biznesowym. Artykuł dotyczy analizy znaczenia i miejsca zarządzania projektami w realizacji założeń ciągłego doskonalenia w organizacjach. W pierwszej części artykułu zaprezentowano wnioski wynikające z analizy literaturowej dotyczącej projektów doskonalących a następnie przedstawiono wyniki badań empirycznych przeprowadzonych w dużym przedsiębiorstwie produkcyjnym. Badanie oparte o studium przypadku pozwoliło na charakterystykę realizowanych projektów oraz identyfikację czynników sprzyjających i utrudniających osiąganie ich celów.
Continuous Improvement is a concept recognized in literature and management practice as essential in today's business environment. The article deals with the analysis of the importance and placement of project management in the implementation of the assumption of Continuous Improvement in manufacturing companies. The first part of the article presents the conclusions resulting from the literature review of the improvement projects implementation and then presents the results of empirical research carried out in the large production company. A case study has allowed the characteristics of the realized projects and identification of factors that are conducive to and obstructive to the achievements of their objectives.

We prove a basic property of continuous multilinear mappings between topological vector spaces, from which we derive an easy proof of the fact that a multilinear mapping (and a polynomial) between topological vector spaces is weakly continuous on weakly bounded sets if and only if it is weakly uniformly} continuous on weakly bounded sets. This result was obtained in 1983 by Aron, Hervés and Valdivia for polynomials between Banach spaces, and it also holds if the weak topology is replaced by a coarser one. However, we show that it need not be true for a stronger topology, thus answering a question raised by Aron. As an application of the first result, we prove that a holomorphic mapping ƒ between complex Banach spaces is weakly uniformly continuous on bounded subsets if and only if it admits a factorization of the form f = g∘S, where S is a compact operator and g a holomorphic mapping.

We derive and investigate integral inequalities of Opial type: $∫_I s|hḣ|dt ≤ ∫_I rḣ² dt$, where h ∈ H, I = (α,β) is any interval on the real line, H is a class of absolutely continuous functions h satisfying h(α) = 0 or h(β) = 0. Our method is a generalization of the method of [3]-[5]. Given the function r we determine the class of functions s for which quadratic integral inequalities of Opial type hold. Such classes have hitherto been described as the classes of solutions of a certain differential equation. In this paper a wider class of functions s is given which is the set of solutions of a certain differential inequality. This class is determined directly and some new inequalities are found.

Presented paper describes model investigations carried out on six-strand continuous casting tundish. Numerical analysis is based on simulations performed with the use of commercial code ANSYS Fluent. The analysis concerns determination of hydrodynamic conditions of the flow in the analysed tundish, with nominal capacity of 22 Mg, and its optimisation by modification of the flow structure in the tundish working area. Four different flow control devices (FCD) were proposed. Results of investigations presented in the paper include the distribution of velocity vectors and distribution of temperature and turbulence kinetic energy. Additionally, for more detailed comparative analysis, the macroscopic characteristics of residence time distribution (RTD) in the reactor, and the transition zone ranges were determined for each of the variants.

A major challenge is the non-existing possibility to clamp the work piece due to its constant feed. This study contains an analysis of the amendments to the Polish Penal Code relating to the term of continuous act made by the Act of October 4, 2018, and the Act of June 19, 2020. The first Act introduced a new section to Article 12 of the Penal Code, which states that “anyone who, in short intervals, using one and the same or identical opportunity or in a similar manner commits two or more intentional misdemeanors against property, if the total value of the property justifies liability for the crime, shall be held liable as for a single crime.” This provision raises a number of doubts about the nature of the institution it introduces – whether it is a type of continuous crime or a real concurrence of misdemeanors. The study also includes an analysis of the second amendment, which changed the penalty for a continuous act. An attempt is then made to evaluate the changes introduced by these two Acts.

The objective of the paper was development of the software tool, which can be used to design the best continuous annealing technology for DP steels in a fast and efficient way. The model of phase transformations during heating and cooling stages, which is the basis of this tool, is described briefly. Results of identification and validation of the model are presented, as well. Due to complex thermal cycles in the continuous annealing process and large number of the design variables, selection of the optimal technology is difficult. It is expected that the developed model will help to evaluate various technological variants and to compare them. To make this procedure more efficient, the user friendly software was developed. Basic principles and features of this tool are presented in the work. The main functionalities of the software compose simulation of phase transformations during thermal cycles and capability to apply simulations to design the best technological variant. Beyond this a data base, which stores material and technological information for all previously analysed cases, is included in the developed software. Graphical user interface is added to make the software easily accessible and user friendly.

The lumped parameter method is adopted to establish a dynamic model of two stage planets and multistage fixed-shaft gears in which the effect of coupling shaft section radius on the system in a continuous miner is considered. The acceleration test of the system proves the accuracy of the proposed model. With the increase of cross section size of the coupled shaft, the influence of the first stage meshing frequency on the second stage planetary system is enhanced. The acceleration decreases gradually with the increase of the size of coupled carrier. It is shown that the modeling by considering the coupled size contributes to reduction of the vibration level.

The paper deals with dynamic analysis of low structures subject to kinematic excitations caused by transversal waves when using nonlinear discrete-continuous models. The models consist of rigid bodies and elastic elements which undergo only shear deformations. In these models discrete elements with a damper and a spring of a nonlinear characteristic representing local nonlinearities can be included. In the study a wave approach is used, in terms of the wave solution of the equations of motion. Numerical calculations are performed for model with single, two, three or four rigid bodies. They focus on the determination of amplitudefrequency curves and investigation into the effect of local nonlinearities on displacements of selected cross-sections of elastic elements in the considered models.
Praca dotyczy analizy dynamicznej niskich obiektów poddanych poprzecznym wymuszeniom kinematycznym wykorzystując nieliniowe modele dyskretno-ciągłe. Modele te składają się z brył sztywnych i elementów sprężystych poddanych tylko odkształceniom ścinającym. W modelach tych można uwzględnić dyskretne elementy ze sprężyną o nieliniowej charakterystyce reprezentujące lokalne nieliniowości. W rozważaniach zastosowano metodę falową, w której wykorzystuje się rozwiązanie falowe równań ruchu. Obliczenia numeryczne wykonano dla modeli z jedną, dwiema, trzema i czterema bryłami sztywnymi. Koncentrują się one na wyznaczaniu krzywych amplitudowo-częstotliwościowych i badaniu wpływu parametrów reprezentujących lokalną nieliniowość na przemieszczenia w wybranych przekrojach poprzecznych elementów sprężystych rozważanych układów dyskretno-ciągłych.

The handling operations are the inseparable element of production processes. The percentage of this type of work, in reference to other production activities, can reach even high levels bringing the increase of expended costs. The capital consumption of handling works affects the improvement of a proper selection of means to assure the production profitability. An important issue of selecting the handling means is based on their work efficiency evaluation. The paper contains the description of the software (developed at The University of Life Sciences in Lublin), that would be helpful in solving the real problems associated with the selection of the continuous handling means used for works planned to do during a production process. The described software is an application consisting of forms that reflect divisions of means for continuous handling and connected databases for storing auxiliary information and results of calculations performed. The principle of the software is based on making calculations of the work efficiency as well as exploitation costs for continuous handling means. Additional values are: ease of data input and search for means characterized by possibly the lowest exploitation costs. Correctness of the software functioning was verified on an example related to comparison of three conveyor types.

The objective of this paper is to assess the participation of adults in Poland in lifelong learning. The participation in education of Poles aged 25-64 was analyzed at three levels: national, regional and individual. The data at the national level were confronted with the situation in Europe and the data at the voivodeships level were considered in the context of regional competitiveness. The main factors influencing the educational involvement at the individual level were detected by the application of classification trees. The results of the analysis indicate that lifelong learning in Poland is not sufficiently developed and some regional differences occur in this field. The educational attainment was found as the most important determinant of the participation in continuous learning.

The presented results of investigations are part of a larger study focused on the optimization of the flow and mixing of liquid steel in the industrial tundish of continuous casting machine. The numerical simulations were carried out concern the analysis of hydrodynamic conditions of liquid steel flow in a tundish operating in one of the national steelworks. Numerical simulations were performed using the commercial code ANSYS Fluent. The research concerns two different speeds of steel casting. In real conditions, these speeds are the most commonly used in the technological process when casting two different groups of steel. As a result of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) calculations, predicted spatial distributions of velocity and liquid steel turbulence fields and residence time distribution (RTD) curves were obtained. The volume fractions of different flows occurring in the tundish were also calculated. The results of the research allowed a detailed analysis of the influence of casting speed on the formation of hydrodynamic conditions prevailing in the reactor.

Problematyka jednorodności/niejednorodności zachowań składających się na czyn ciągły ani nie jest nowa, ani nie jest przedmiotem szerszych dysput naukowych. Nie oznacza to jednak, że nie ma istotnego znaczenia teoretycznego czy praktycznego. Bez wątpienia jest to zagadnienie sporne, do którego należy powrócić w związku z dwoma nowelizacjami Kodeksu karnego (w zakresie art. 12 i 57b k.k.), które powinny rzucić nowe światło na dotychczasowe postrzeganie tytułowego problemu. Antycypując dalsze rozważania, wskazać należy, że w czyn ciągły można łączyć tylko takie zachowania, które jednostkowo naruszają za każdym razem tożsame normy prawne.
The issue of homogeneity/heterogeneity of behaviors that make up a continuous act is neither new nor is it the subject of wider scientific disputes. This does not mean, however, that it has no significant theoretical and practical significance. Undoubtedly, however, this is a contentious issue that should be revisited in connection with the two amendments to the Penal Code (in terms of Articles 12 and 57b of the Penal Code), which should shed new light on the current perception of the title problem. Anticipating further considerations, it should be pointed out that only those behaviors that individually violate the same legal norms each time can be combined into a continuous act.

In the paper discrete-continuous models with a local nonlinearity are proposed for the dynamic investigations of low structures subject to kinematic excitations caused by transverse waves. The models consist of rigid bodies and of elastic elements which only undergo shear deformations, while the local nonlinearity is represented by a damper and a nonlinear spring. It is assumed that the nonlinear characteristic of the spring is of a soft type. In the paper this characteristic is described by four nonlinear functions. In the discussion a wave approach is used. Numerical calculations are performed for the models with two, three and four rigid bodies for a harmonic kinematic excitation. They focus on the investigation of the effect of the local nonlinearity expressed by various functions on displacements of selected cross-sections of the elastic elements in the considered models, and on the determination of the application ranges of these functions.
Drgania dyskretno-ciągłych modeli niskich konstrukcji ze sprężyną o nieliniowej charakterystyce typu miękiego. W pracy przeprowadzono badania dynamiczne niskich obiektów poddanych wymuszeniom kinematycznym wywołanych falami poprzecznymi przy wykorzystaniu dyskretno-ciągłych modeli z lokalną nieliniowością. Modele złożone są z brył sztywnych i elementów sprężystych poddanych tylko odkształceniom ścinającym, natomiast lokalna nieliniowość reprezentowana jest przez dyskretne elementy z nieliniową sprężyną. Założono, że nieliniowa charakterystyka sprężyny jest typu miękkiego. W pracy charakterystykę tę opisano za pomocą czterech funkcji nieliniowych. W dyskusji wykorzystano podejście falowe. Obliczena numeryczne wykonano dla modeli z dwiema, trzema i czterema bryłami sztywnymi przy wymuszeniu kinematycznym opisanym funkcją harmoniczną. Koncentrują się one na zbadaniu wpływu lokalnej nieliniowości, wyrażonej przez cztery różne funkcje, na przemieszczenia wybranych przekrojów poprzecznych elementów sprężystych w rozpatrywanych modelach, oraz na wyznaczeniu obszarów stosowalności przyjętych funkcji nieliniowych.

W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono wyniki eksperymentów przemysłowych z zastosowaniem zasypki krystalizatorowej posiadajacej jednakowy skład chemiczny lecz rózniacej sie postacia i gestoscia: proszkowa, granulowana i formowana. Wpływ postaci zasypki krystalizatorowej na intensywnosc smarowania i jej zuzycie okreslono na podstawie wyników przemysłowych odlewania na urzadzeniu COS stali niskoweglowej w formacie 1030x220 mm.

In this work we consider a problem from the field of power- and energy-aware scheduling, in which a set of batteries have to be charged in a minimum time. The formulated problem is to schedule independent and nonpreemptable jobs to minimize the schedule length, where each job requires some amount of power and consumes a certain amount of energy during its processing. We assume that the power demand of each job linearly decreases with time, as it is the case when Li-ion batteries are being charged. For the assumed job model we prove that each next job should be started as soon as the required amount of power is available. Basing on the proven theorem we formulate a procedure generating a minimum-length schedule for an assumed order of jobs. We also analyze the case of identical jobs, and show some interesting properties of this case.

Let X be a completely regular Hausdorff space, E and F be Banach spaces. Let $C_b(X,E)$ be the space of all E-valued bounded continuous functions on X, equipped with the strict topology β. We study topological properties of the space $L_{β}(C_{b}(X,E),F)$ of all $(β,||·||_{F})$-continuous linear operators from $C_{b}(X,E)$ to F, equipped with the topology $τ_{s}$ of simple convergence. If X is a locally compact paracompact space (resp. a P-space), we characterize $τ_{s}$-compact subsets of $L_{β}(C_{b}(X,E),F)$ in terms of properties of the corresponding sets of the representing operator-valued Borel measures. It is shown that the space $(L_{β}(C_{b}(X,E),F),τ_{s})$ is sequentially complete if X is a locally compact paracompact space.

The purpose of this work is to develop a model for implementing an effective and efficient Continuous Improvement projects, aimed at increasing the performance of production processes. In particular, it aims to innovate in the way of deploying a Program Improvement in the company to make this process run as efficiently as possible. Although continuous improvement programs are some of the tools that are commonly used in industrial environments to increase the performance of their processes, it has become clear that there is a need to develop a continuous improvement model that will be implemented efficiently, and its results will remain over time. Also, it has been found that the model mentioned previously should serve to develop the foundations of an Organization which learns quickly and continuously.
