Opis:

Let J be an abelian topological semigroup and C a subset of a Banach space X. Let L(X) be the space of bounded linear operators on X and Lip(C) the space of Lipschitz functions ⨍: C → C. We exhibit a large class of semigroups J for which every weakly continuous semigroup homomorphism T: J → L(X) is necessarily strongly continuous. Similar results are obtained for weakly continuous homomorphisms T: J → Lip(C) and for strongly measurable homomorphisms T: J → L(X).

We introduce a subclass of the family of Darboux Baire 1 functions f : R → R modifying the Darboux property analogously as it was done by Z. Grande in [On a subclass of the family of Darboux functions, Colloq. Math. 17 (2009), 95–104], and replacing approximate continuity with I-approximate continuity, i.e. continuity with respect to the I-density topology. We prove that the family of all Darboux quasi-continuous functions from the first Baire class is a strongly porous set in the space DB1 of Darboux Baire 1 functions, equipped with the supremum metric.

Zachowanie ciągłości przestrzennej układów urbanistycznych współczesnej przestrzeni miejskiej jest ważne dla zachowania tożsamości miejsca, ładu przestrzennego. Współczesny rozwój zabudowy miejskiej powinien zachowywać ciągłość kulturową, stanowić poszanowanie dla istniejącej infrastruktury architektoniczno-urbanistycznej. Przedstawiona metoda SCD pozwala na zachowanie pewnych prawidłowości w projektowaniu i planowaniu nowej zabudowy miejskiej.

We solve several problems in the theory of polynomials in Banach spaces. (i) There exist Banach spaces without the Dunford-Pettis property and without upper p-estimates in which all multilinear forms are weakly sequentially continuous: some Lorentz sequence spaces, their natural preduals and, most notably, the dual of Schreier's space. (ii) There exist Banach spaces X without the Dunford-Pettis property such that all multilinear forms on X and X* are weakly sequentially continuous; this gives an answer to a question of Dimant and Zalduendo [20]. (iii) The sum of two polynomially null sequences need not be polynomially null; this answers a question of Biström, Jaramillo and Lindström [8] and also of González and Gutiérrez [23]. (iv), (v) The absolutely convex closed hull of a pw-compact set need not be pw-compact; the projective tensor product of two polynomially null sequences need not be a polynomially null sequence. This answers two questions of González and Gutiérrez [23]. (vi) There exists a Banach space without property (P); this answers a question of Aron, Choi and Llavona [5].

Aim/purpose – The purpose of this paper is to recognize and compare the best practices that ensure the flexibility and continuity of supplies. Although the flexibility drivers and continuity risk drivers, according to the literature, are actually the same, there is a lack of research articles on this aspect. Design/methodology/approach – A two-phase methodology design, based on the literature review and in-depth interviews, was used, and seven in-depth interviews with the representatives of manufacturing companies that operate in different sectors were conducted. Findings – Supply flexibility and continuity are presented in the literature, mainly as the responses to the business environmental events/changes that have already occurred. Nevertheless, the researched manufacturing companies recognize their use in terms of prevention as well. The researched enterprises use traditional ways of dealing with supply problems (alternative supplier, inventory buffers). They do not really connect ensuring supply continuity with long-term disruptions, but rather understand it as prevention of typical supply delays and quality problems. The respondents regard supplier flexibility not only as a way of responding to the forecasted demand changes but also to unexpected situations. The companies ensure supply continuity and supply flexibility using similar but not exactly the same strategies. For the reactive strategies, sourcing decisions are crucial, whereas for preventive strategies – it is supplier performance management. Research implications/limitations – The small number of conducted interviews is a limitation of performed research, however, some directions for future research can be noted. Apart from other implications described in the paper, it is deduced that sourcing flexibility positively influences supply continuity. Nevertheless, this hypothesis needs quantitative verification. Originality/value/contribution – The paper compares the issue of supply flexibility with the issue of supply continuity. For these two areas, it identifies common and individual strategies that are performed by researched companies in terms of prevention and reaction to risk and uncertainty.

The article presents assumptions for modeling of organization contingency, emphasizing threats for its critical infrastructure. Identification rules and criteria for risk assessment in the aspect of accessibility, confidentiality and integrity of information resources including rules for defining strategic organization resources, which influence its contingency and performance in a threat or damage state has been defined. Main aspects of organization procedures creation, which are integral part of contingency plan has been presented. Whole article has been summarized by a debate of system approach to organization security.

Nowadays, the so-called Banat Bulgarians are a numerous group of the descendants of Bulgarian Catholics, which were forced to emigrate to Wallachia in the end of the 17th century and in the beginning of the 18th century and from there in years 1738–1741 to Banat. Small part of them (after 1878) returned to Bulgaria where they establish new villages. Most of them still live in Romanian territory, decidedly less numerous colonies are in Hungary and in Serbia. From the end of 19th century they were a subject of interest to historians and linguists. For historians, their history were extremely  interesting.  For  linguists,  because  they  managed  to  salvage  the  dialect  which became (in the half of the 19th century) a base of literary norm that was to shape their language.

During the last Baìo in 2007, I interpreted carnival as an occasion to investigate popular traditions. Agricultural feasts have been present since ancient times, sometimes hidden behind the veil of other meanings: today they represent a way to allow the present society to feel itself as a continuation of the past. The communities of small local areas show a representation of their identity through ancient rituals – like manifestations, such as the Baìo – to sew their relationships with the modern territory. Those rituals also demonstrate several, and sometimes unexpected, connections with different cultures of the present and the past.

The aim of the study is to comprise in one work the cyclicality and ethnic and religious continuity of the Petroşani Depression between 1850-2011. In the second half of the 19th century, the depression was subjected to cycles of colonization that had consequences for the ethnic and religious structure. The ethnic and religious continuity was preserved throughout this period, even though after 1930, some of the settlers remigrated to their birthplace. Compared to the late 19-century censuses, the herds have fallen to 2011, but none of the ethnics and confessions have completely disappeared. The statistical data used were taken from the literature mentioned during the work and on the online platform of the National Institute of Statistics. The geographic information systems were used to achieve the geographical position map at the county and national level of the Petroşani Depression.

Kultura w życiu społecznym pełni fundamentalną rolę, obejmując sys- temy wartości, idei, wzorów zachowań i norm, przez które człowiek rozpoznaje rzeczywistość. Misja Kościoła, by być zrozumiała i skuteczna, musi więc doko- nywać się w kulturze, wykorzystując tworzoną przez nią rzeczywistość symbo- liczną. Dlatego też Kościół powołany jest do uczestnictwa w kulturze, wykorzy- stując ją jako narzędzie ewangelizacji i ujmując ją jednocześnie jako zadanie. Kultura, jako rzeczywistość społeczna, podobnie jak społeczeństwa jest w cią- głym ruchu i podlega ciągłym przemianom. W konsekwencji więc, Kościół musi dostosowywać swą misję do zmieniających się warunków. Ciągłość jest więc spleciona ze zmianą, w ten sposób, że zmiany Kościoła zapewniają ciągłość jego misji. Jako rzeczywistość teandryczna, Kościół podąża więc ku Królestwu Boże- mu przez historię i kultury.

Performance is usually seen as a transient event. Hamlet calls it a thing. How can an event become a thing? Philosophy distinguishes between things and events. The two orders are different. Their difference is articulated in terms of time. Things are continuous, while events are evanescent. Hamlet calls the play within the play a ‘thing’ (Hamlet. II. Ii. 612). He thus thrusts it into the order of the continuous. Levinas introduces the concept of being otherwise. In order to explain the evanescent continuity, we will make use of this concept. Acting introduces a new mode of being that differs from that of writing. It is „eventive” continuity that we wish to speak about. An actor is only otherwise. By this, we mean that s/he is essentially a difference. An actor is only what s/he is not. By being a difference, the actor survives. Actors do not die. It is true that actors are mortals but the role will survive being acted. Unlike writing, where the word survives as a fixed monument, the role survives through repetition. This repetition is a recreation through repetitive simultaneity. When Iago says: I am not what I am (Othello. I. i. 65), he defines himself as a simultaneous difference. To be only as difference is quite challenging. Indeed, if the only mode of being is being otherwise, we speak about pure difference. Pure difference — total otherness that has no other — is the essence of acting. In the following essay, we intend to explore the generic question of temporality through a comparison between the monumentality of writing and that of acting. We will try to explain how a play is a thing, a continuous mode of being.

In this paper we investigate the lower Lipschitz continuity of minimal points of an arbitrary set A depending upon a parameter u . Our results are formulated with the help of the modulus of minimality. The crucial requirement which allows us to derive sufficient conditions for lower Lipschitz continuity of minimal points is that the modulus of minimality is at least linear. The obtained results can be directly applied to stability analysis of vector optimization problems.

Opis:

In this work the EGNOS performance before and after applying a novel methodology called Error Extraction is tested using real data. These data are collected at the EGNOS Monitoring Station placed in Sofia by Eurocontrol. The tests concern aircraft navigation, namely Approach with Vertical Guidance services. All results confirm that the designed new algorithms are very promising. They allow reduction of the error standard deviation and significant availability improvement without breaches of the integrity. The probability of system discontinuity decreases substantially.

The Kalikow problem for a pair (λ,κ) of cardinal numbers,λ > κ (in particular κ = 2) is whether we can map the family of ω-sequences from λ to the family of ω-sequences from κ in a very continuous manner. Namely, we demand that for η,ν ∈ ω we have: η, ν are almost equal if and only if their images are. We show consistency of the negative answer, e.g., for $ℵ_ω$ but we prove it for smaller cardinals. We indicate a close connection with the free subset property and its variants.

The article is an attempt to answer the question about the relation between tradition and the development of theological cognition. The church from the first centuries was aware that allegiance to the council tenets exceeds a technical repetition of council`s formulas. It is clear that a belief in dogma assumes openness to both the past and the future.In the article two approaches to tradition are criticized: archeological and enthusiastic. The first one is linked with attempt to end the possibility of adding to a developing tradition further at any point in history; the second one is a result of conviction that currents form of doctrine and church are exactly what is wanted by God.In reference to K. Rahner, J. Ratzinger and W. Kasper the typological‑sacramental meaning of the tradition was proposed. It lets us – basing on the statements of the Vatican II – overcome a progressivist hermeneutic of rupture and go toward a hermeneutic of continuity and to the real reform of the church. In other words, it means that the process of reception and realization of Jesus` teaching and of the history of Christianity lives on and every epoch, every culture and every generation has a task to deepen and to better understand all revelation given to us by Christ. It must be done with a sensitivity to the historical, cultural and religious contexts of every period of history including the present.

Purpose: To explore how the predecessors and successors of Polish family businesses use and refine existing knowledge, identify knowledge deficiencies or absences, and create new knowledge during the working together stage. Methodology/approach: The article builds on qualitative empirical material gathered in 2018 and 2019 with a problem-centered interview approach aiming to capture the complex and potentially diverging realities of both generations. Altogether, 48 preliminary interview questionnaires were completed and, subsequently, 46 interviews were conducted. Findings: The study captured that the use of existing knowledge during the Working Together period is significantly supported by the fact that the old and young generation share several unarticulated beliefs, mental models, and behaviors. However, the identification of knowledge gaps and the creation of new knowledge are heavily hindered by the fear of confrontation and only declarative – instead of active – interest of the older generation in creating new knowledge. Originality/value: The article bridges the gap between the literature on organizational ambidexterity and family business by empirically investigating the intergenerational dynamics of owners’ families regarding knowledge creation. Moreover, we introduce the concept of intergenerational familial ambidexterity.

This article examines the concept of Byzantinism that Julien Benda employed in his book La France Byzantine. In the fin-de-siècle European sensibility, Byzantinism was transferred from political to literary level, but Benda created an epistemological break when he asserted in his book that Byzantinism is literature in its normal function. Furthermore, of Byzantinist character is especially the modern literature (e.g. Valéry or Mallarmé). Thus, labeling modern literati as Byzantinist writers served as a critical tool for Benda, who condemned the degradation of modern intellectuals into clerks. This transformation of literary normality affected also pure thought as is manifested in the ambiguous manner of expressing their ideas by modern thinkers (this being a mixture of idealism and apocryphal thinking, which renders ideas rather abstractions than instruments of rationality). An example of such a Byzantinist use can be found in the manner Emmanuel Levinas exploited Husserl’s phenomenology. Finally, Benda engaged in a discussion with Paulhan’s view that literary philosophy is a form of critical terror. The position of Benda is that of a rationalist, whereas Paulhan is a thinker who focuses on the use of language. For Constantine Tsatsos (1899–1987), on the other hand, a Greek philosopher and author of a philosophical novel entitled Dialogues in a Monastery (1974), the Byzantine moment is a part of great continuity of Greek culture, which is characterized by various structures in its period of long duration. One of these is the synthesis of Hellenism and Christianity that can be seen in Byzantium, where the transposition of the philosophical (Platonic) Eros to the mystical one plays a major role. This development is of paramount importance not only for the whole European culture but also for all questions of beauty and morality. The present paper concludes with a brief discussion of Richard Rorty’s account of pragmatic reason, which makes it possible to show how contemporary philosophy can be placed in the context of the debate about Byzantinism.

W artykule zostanie podjęta refleksja teologiczna dotycząca zachowania lub zerwania hermeneutyki ciągłości w kwestii przyjmowania przez rozwodników Komunii św. w Kościele katolickim. Zagadnienie to rozumiane jest jako proces, rozwój, który może być zinterpretowany bądź jako ewolucyjny, bądź rewolucyjny. Aby dokonać oceny tego procesu i wyciągnąć odpowiednie wnioski, za przedmiot badań przyjęto nauczanie Kościoła w ostatnim stuleciu, począwszy od Kodeksu Prawa Kanonicznego Benedykta XV (1917), a zakończymy na odpowiedzi papieża Franciszka z 5 września 2016 r., którą papież skierował do argentyńskich biskupów regionu Buenos Aires w odpowiedzi na ich komentarz do adhortacji apostolskiej Amoris laetitia. Amoris laetitia ukazana jest jako kontynuacja Familiaris consortio, choć, zdaniem autora, to ten ostatni dokument był w swej istocie bardziej rewolucyjny niż adhortacja papieża Franciszka.
In the article, a theological reflection is made on maintaining or breaking the hermeneutics of continuity in the matter of receiving Holy Communion by the divorced in the Catholic Church. The issue is understood as a process, as a development that can be interpreted as either evolutionary or revolutionary. To evaluate this process and draw appropriate conclusions, the author adopted the teaching of the Church in the last century beginning with the Canon Law Code of Benedict XV (1917) and concluding with the reply of Pope Francis of September 5, 2016, which he addressed to the Argentine bishops of the Buenos Aires region in response to their commentary on the Apostolic Exhortation Amoris laetitia. Amoris laetitia is shown as a continuation of Familiaris consortio, although in the author’s opinion this last document was in essence more revolutionary than the exhortation of Pope Francis.

In this essay I intend to tell a story of media studies and mass communication research as a field, based on the work of the late Denis McQuail – and that of editing the new edition of his seminal handbook McQuail’s Media and Mass Communication Theory (McQuail & Deuze, 2020). Using McQuail’s historical storytelling method, I specifically look at the challenge for the field in the context of a global pandemic alongside an infodemic, at a time when the whole world faces the consequences of recurrent lockdowns, social distancing measures, and institutional pressures to stay at home. Media studies and (mass) communication research, while having a distinct narrative, as a field has only just begun to articulate its relevance to society – we have only just started to tell our story. Using developments in understanding the self as a research tool, the implementation of integrative research designs, and calls for engaged and public scholarship, the paper outlines challenges and opportunities for what we can do with our field.

Opis:

The continuity of the flow of materials needed for correct operation of manufacturing systems can be achieved using different means and control methods. From the perspective of the technical infrastructure, it is important to ensure high reliability of machines, devices, and whole manufacturing lines. These objectives can be achieved through the use of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). Specific effects can also be achieved by using additional capacitive elements in device systems (manufacturing lines). The focus of this study is limited mainly to continuous flow systems such as complex material flow systems in power plants or mineral pre-processing plants.

We prove the Hölder continuity for proper holomorphic mappings onto certain piecewise smooth pseudoconvex domains with "good" plurisubharmonic peak functions at each point of their boundaries. We directly obtain a quite precise estimate for the exponent from an attraction property for analytic disks. Moreover, this way does not require any consideration of infinitesimal metric.

In this paper we introduce various forms of convergence of transfinite sequences of multifunctions with values in a quasi-uniform space. We also study some weak types of continuity for such multifunctions. Any such sequence of multifunctions generates the sequence of the sets of weak types of continuity points and the sequence of various types of cluster sets of members of such sequence. We study the connection between convergence of a transfinite sequences of multifunctions and convergence of the corresponding sequences of the sets of the weak continuity points and the sequences of cluster sets. Some of the presented results concern of general nets of multifunctions.

In this essay I present culture as a realm constituted by a circular movement where progress is constantly confronted (and questioned) by different forms of reversions. By progress I mean specifically oriented changes we observe in culture. Many of them are rooted in the development of technology and science, or stem from demographical changes and intercultural influences. Reactions to these changes frequently involve returning to certain forms of behavior or responses that were common in the past but have been later abandoned. I intend to present examples of this phenomenon observed in culture.

In this article, authors analyze methods of the analysis of data integrity, security and availability loss results for business processes. Assessing those results, one can judge the importance of a process in organization; thus, determine which business process requires more attention. The importance of those processes can be determined with Business Impact Analysis (BIA). In article, first phase of BIA is presented - in specific, a construction of Business Impact Category Tables, Loss Levels and process weight calculation methods. A variety of weight calculating methods is presented. Authors also present their proposed method - square sum percentage - as a solution eliminating problems of other weight calculation methods in business impact analysis.
Realizowany przez Instytut Technik Innowacyjnych EMAG system OSCAD (Otwarty Szkieletowy System Zarządzania Ciągłością Działania) ma realizować komputerowe wspomaganie zarządzania ciągłością działania organizacji (w tym również zarządzanie ciągłością działania infrastruktury IT) oraz zarządzanie bezpieczenśtwem informacji przetwarzanych w instytucji, jej systemach informatycznych. Komputerowe wspomaganie będzie obejmowało m.in. takie elementy, jak zarządzanie ryzykiem oraz zarządzanie incydentami. Opisywana w artykule metoda analizy ryzyka została zaimplementowana w module służącym do analizy i oceny poziomu ryzyka dla danych przetwarzanych w organizacji oraz realizowanych procesów. Wynikiem działania tego modułu jest następnie raport z listą zabezpieczeń wdrożonych oraz wymaganych do wdrożenia w organizacji Autorzy analizują sposób modelowania skutków biznesowych dla utraty poufności, integralności i dostępności danych i procesów biznesowych. Zaprezentowano pierwszą fazę BIA (analizy skutków biznesowych), a zwłaszcza konstrukcję tabeli kategorii skutków biznesowych. Przedstawiono różne metody kalkulacji wagi (znaczenia) procesu dla organizacji. Autorzy proponują własną metodę - procenta sumy kwadratowej - jako rozwiązania eliminującego problemy innych metod kalkulacji wagi procesu w analizie skutków biznesowych.

Opis:

A rigorous analysis of sound radiation by a pulsating sphere forming a resonator together with a semispherical cavity is presented. Both hard and soft boundaries are considered, as well as mixed. The problem is solved by dividing the entire region into two subregions, one surrounding the sphere and containing the cavity and the other for the remaining half-space. The continuity conditions are applied to obtain the acoustic pressure. Then the acoustic radiation resistance is calculated both in the near- and far-field. The acoustic radiation reactance is calculated in the impedance approach. The resonance frequencies are determined, for which a significant growth of the sound pressure level is observed as well as the sound field directivity. The accuracy and convergence of these rigorous results has been examined empirically.

Ciągłość działania współczesnych systemów technicznych, rozumiana wielowymiarowo, obejmuje w swej treści zarówno niezawodność funkcjonowania jak i bezpieczeństwo ich działania. Bezpieczne działanie systemu oznacza jego funkcjonowanie nie stwarzające zagrożenia dla ludzi. Rola człowieka w bezpiecznym działaniu całego systemu technicznego realizowana jest na dwóch płaszczyznach (rys. 1): jako twórcy (projektanta i wykonawcy systemu) oraz eksploatatora (operatora i konserwatora systemu). Systemy zaopatrzenia w wodę są potencjalnie niebezpieczne. Istniejący system kontroli jakości wody, najczęściej pozbawiony nowoczesnego monitoringu jej jakości, nie daje gwarancji dostatecznie wczesnego podjęcia działań ochronnych [8]. Przedostanie się do wody cyjanków i rozprowadzenie jej do odbiorców kończy się śmiertelnymi zatruciami. Mogą też incydentalnie wystąpić inne wysoce szkodliwe związki. Często nawet niewielkie dawki niebezpiecznych związków kumulują się w organizmie (np. ołów systematycznie odkłada się w szpiku kostnym), co dopiero po latach daje ewidentnie negatywne skutki.
Operational continuity of extensive technical circuits, as understood from multidimensional point of view, means not only their operational reliability, but also their safety of use. Safe operation of a system means functioning, in which there are no symptoms of hazard for human use. The role of the human in safe functioning of the overall technical system is accomplished on two levels: as a creator (a designer and a builder of the system), and as an exploiter (an operator and a maintenance technician of the system). Water supply systems are potentially hazardous. Existing water control system, which most frequently are deprived of high-tech monitoring techniques for water quality, does not guarantee a suitable, early start of preventive measures [Rak i Wieczysty 1991, Wieczysty et al. 1994]. Penetration of cyanides to water and distribution of the water to consumers results in lethal intoxications. From time to time some other highly hazardous compounds can be found. Even small doses of highly toxic compounds can frequently accumulate in a human body (ex. lead is continuously being deposited in bone marrow), albeit it takes years for visibly negative results to develop. Risk evaluation methods resulting from civilization progress are based on identification of hazards and evaluation, as well as classification of risk associated with technical incidents. Risk is a measure of safety (safety level) or the feeling of safety defined as the value of probability of occurrence of an unfavourable incident and its results at a given time, which negatively affect human health and life, property or the environment.

In §§ 50-51 of his Pensées sur l’interprétation de la Nature, Diderot draws consequences adverse to religion from the hypothesis of the sensibility of living matter in the Système de la Nature, prompting an endangered Maupertuis to respond. Diderot knows that he is reading his own materialistic conception of matter in Maupertuis but is feigning to object to it, while Maupertuis, who knows that the so-called objection is in truth Diderot’s own view, is compelled to defend himself. Through this rhetoric of feigned misunderstanding, real and fundamental questions (living matter, continuity, totality, unity of natural philosophy) raised by the phenomena of organization are being discussed.

A b-coloring of a graph G by k colors is a proper vertex coloring such that every color class contains a color-dominating vertex, that is, a vertex having neighbors in all other k-1 color classes. The b-chromatic number $χ_b(G)$ is the maximum integer k for which G has a b-coloring by k colors. Moreover, the graph G is called b-continuous if G admits a b-coloring by k colors for all k satisfying $χ(G) ≤ k ≤ χ_b(G)$. In this paper, we establish four general upper bounds on $χ_b(G)$. We present results on the b-chromatic number and the b-continuity problem for special graphs, in particular for disconnected graphs and graphs with independence number 2. Moreover we determine $χ_b(G)$ for graphs G with minimum degree δ(G) ≥ |V(G)|-3, graphs G with clique number ω(G) ≥ |V(G)|-3, and graphs G with independence number α(G) ≥ |V(G)|-2. We also prove that these graphs are b-continuous.

The rigorous solution describing the sound radiation by an arbitrary surface source located at the bottom of a cylindrical open cavity embedded in a flat baffle has been obtained. The open cavities of different shapes can be found in some architectural structures as well as are components of sensors, musical instruments and vehicles. The presented formulas have been expressed in the form of Infinite sums. To use them, the infinite sums have to be truncated to the finite number of terms. Therefore, in practice, the results obtain based on the proposed solution are not exact and their accuracy is determined by the truncation error. The use of presented formulas is an alternative method for the finite element method (FEM). However, taking into account that the calculation efficiency of FEM rapidly decrease when a volume of considered region increases, the obtained in this study solution can be more useful in some practical cases. The approximated formula of a high computational efficiency has been presented for the sound pressure in the far field. The sound radiation has been analyzed for a rectangular piston as a sound source. The influence of cavity depth ratio on the radiation efficiency has been investigated. The cases for which the cavity radiation efficiency can be approximately calculated from the formula valid for a baffled sound source have been determined.

Opis:

Speech enhancement in strong noise condition is a challenging problem. Low-rank and sparse matrix decomposition (LSMD) theory has been applied to speech enhancement recently and good performance was obtained. Existing LSMD algorithms consider each frame as an individual observation. However, real-world speeches usually have a temporal structure, and their acoustic characteristics vary slowly as a function of time. In this paper, we propose a temporal continuity constrained low-rank sparse matrix decomposition (TCCLSMD) based speech enhancement method. In this method, speech separation is formulated as a TCCLSMD problem and temporal continuity constraints are imposed in the LSMD process. We develop an alternative optimisation algorithm for noisy spectrogram decomposition. By means of TCCLSMD, the recovery speech spectrogram is more consistent with the structure of the clean speech spectrogram, and it can lead to more stable and reasonable results than the existing LSMD algorithm. Experiments with various types of noises show the proposed algorithm can achieve a better performance than traditional speech enhancement algorithms, in terms of yielding less residual noise and lower speech distortion.

Boulicaut [Bo] proved that every nuclear locally convex space G has the property (PL). Bernard Bolzano’s paper Rein analytischer Beweis des Lehrsatzes, dass zwischen je zwei Werthen, die ein entgegengesetztes Resultat gewähren, wenigstens eine reelle Wurzel der Gleichung liege was published in 1817. It presents a ”purely analytic proof” of the intermediate value theorem for the polynomials of variable x. Aside from polynomials, Bolzano considers other kinds of functions, however the domain of these functions is not clearly defined. In this article, we show that the variable x ranges over real numbers. Specifically, we identify the axioms for the ordered field that Bolzano implicitly applies. We also identify the versions of continuity axiom, and show that while some of them are implicitly applied, others are explicitly stated as ”basics truths”.

Informational continuity becomes an important attribute of modern supply chains, in which dynamic relations with various stakeholders requires operating reliable and up-to-date information. The authors attempted to show the significance of this issue, taking into account the aspect of using modern techniques and information technologies, including in particular the possibility of using Blockchain technology. This technology offers great opportunities in providing information security, which principally determines tier of informational continuity. In the supply chains, confidentiality and data integrity can be a determinant of effective action.

Opis:

Aim. This study aims to understand the factors determining university students’ behavioural intentions toward online learning in Bangladesh. Specifically, this study investigates the relationship between performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy (EE), social influence (SI), facilitating conditions (FC), and behavioural intention (BI). Moreover, this study explores the influence of pandemic fear (PF) as a moderator in the relationship between exogenous and endogenous factors. Methods. The study is cross-sectional and followed a quantitative research approach with purposive sampling. Data were collected at a single point using a sample size of 578 respondents who studied online during the various phases of lockdown at five public and five private universities in Bangladesh. Regarding multivariate analysis, the Partial Least Squares - Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) is applied in this study to test the causal relationships in the structural model, as it is considered a second-generation technique. Results. Statistically, a positive significance was found between PE, EE, SI, and BI in online learning participation. Whereas the FC and the BI exhibited a negative relationship, a positive relationship was found between PE, EE, and the SI on BI. In addition, a moderating role for PF was investigated, and EE and FC were found to influence BI significantly. Conclusion. This study presents an extended UTAUT model by integrating pandemic fear as the moderator to study students' behavioural intention to adopt an online learning system under a disruptive situation. Practitioners, especially academicians and policymakers, will find this model useful while developing andragogic interventions for the higher education sector in Bangladesh.

Autor podkreśla znaczący wkład, jaki fenomenologia eksperymentalna może wnieść do metodologii badań naukowych. Pod pojęciem tym należy rozumieć fenomenologiczne podejście, które wyłoniło się w ostatnim okresie z rozważań nad niektórymi epistemologicznymi implikacjami badań z zakresu percepcji inspirowanych teorią Gestalt. Chodzi tu w szczególności o badania przeprowadzone przez członków zespołu, który działał na Wydziale Humanistycznym Uniwersytetu w Trieście w drugiej połowie ubiegłego stulecia pod kierownictwem triesteńskiego specjalisty z dziedziny percepcji, Gaetano Kanizsy. Wspomniane implikacje dotyczą możliwości uwidocznienia przestrzenno-czasowych warunków, które ukazują rzeczywistość poza zjawiskami i które w ujęciu klasycznej fenomenologii Husserlowskiej uznaje się za poznawalne jedynie w sposób idealny. Autor kwestionuje idealistyczną hipotekę ciążącą na klasycznej fenomenologii i podkreśla doniosłość niektórych argumentów, które zdają się przemawiać za wspomnianą możliwością nowego realizmu. Przywołane zostają odkrywcze wizualizacje opracowane z wykorzystaniem Gedankenexperimenten (eksperymentów idealnych) stosowanych przez Ernsta Macha w jego historyczno-krytycznych badaniach ewolucji nowożytnej mechaniki. Przede wszystkim jednak autor przedstawia zasadnicze cechy wizualizacji absolutnej realności przestrzeni postrzegalnej w zjawisku tzw. nieprzystających odpowiedników, zamieszczonej w ostatnim przedkrytycznym eseju Kanta. Rysuje się w ten sposób teoretyczna i historyczna perspektywa, w której istotniejszą rolę może odgrywać – obok wizji idealnych esencji – sama wizja rzeczywistości.
The author presents a possible important contribution of experimental phenomenology to the methodology of scientific research. Experimental phenomenology is a phenomenological approach developed recently from some epistemological implications of the inspired by the Gestalt theory investigations concerning perception. The paper is especially concentrated on investigations performed by the group which was being active at the Trieste University in the second half of the 20th century; the group was leading by Gaetano Kanizsa, a perception specialist. The here conditions, which reveal reality beyond phenomena and which in the classical Husserl phenomenology approach are recognized to be knowable only ideally. The author contests the idealistic mortgage of the classical phenomenology, and emphasizes the essentiality of some arguments which seems to legitimize the mentioned possibility of a new realism. The author quotes creative visualizations applying relevant Gedankenexperimenten, elaborated by Ernst Mach in his historical-critical researches of the evolution of modern mechanics. However, the author first of all presents the essential features of the visualization of the absolute reality of the space perceived in the phenomenon of incongruent correspondents, stated in last precritical Kant’s essay. Thus the theoretical-historical perspective is outlined in which a more essential role can be played by—together with the vision of ideal essences — the very vision of reality.

A great deal of hydrogeological situations requires an extremely accurate calculation of the 3-dimensional groundwater discharge rates in the subsoil. Examples are: hydrology of wetlands, water balances of aquatic ecosystems depending on groundwater recharge, river-groundwater interaction, advective transport of pollution underneath waste disposal sites, particle trajectories in aquifer-aquitard systems with contrasting heterogeneities and many others. Numerical determination of the vertical groundwater velocity is a notoriously difficult problem. In nature this component may be two or three orders of magnitude smaller than the horizontal velocity components. In such cases application of Darcy’s law to the numerically calculated hydraulic heads obtained from a finite difference or finite element model may lead to relatively inaccurate vertical velocities. More specifically, when estimating vertical velocity components in cases where the Dupuit approximation – negligible vertical head gradient – holds, numerical differentiation of hydraulic heads yields zero vertical velocity. In the 1980s of the last century Zijl and Nawalany proposed to invert the order of calculating the velocity field by eliminating the head from Darcy’s law and to consider the Darcy velocity as the primary variable. For 2-dimensional flow this was already common practice and the challenge was a 3-dimensional extension, which was called the Velocity Oriented Approach (VOA). In two dimensions such methods were conventionally based on a stream function as primary variable. However, at that time application of a 3D stream function was not feasible and, therefore, the Darcy velocity itself was considered as the primary variable. This approach has been proven to yield a high accuracy for all three components of the specific discharge, including the relatively small vertical component, especially in cases where the subsoil is smoothly heterogeneous in the horizontal directions. In the 1990s the mixed-hybrid finite element method was developed. The physical interpretation of this method shows the way how to liberate the VOA from its smoothness requirement by introduction of a practical applicable 3D stream function. In conclusion, the velocity oriented approach indicates a change in paradigm regarding the accurate calculation of specific discharge in groundwater flow.

Opis:

The aim of this paper is to suggest a novel account of mental imagery according to which mental images are not a-temporal picture-like representations, but processes characterized by their spatio-temporal continuity. Evidence based in particular on recent advances in understating the functional role of the hippocampal formation in cognition and spatial coding is provided. Under this account, mental images are a pervasive form of cognition that is supported by the complex interaction of the hippocampus and the entorhinal cortex, encompassing cognitive functions such as navigation, episodic memory, as well as mental rotation and scanning. The functional role of the hippocampus is twofold: it forms elements of spatio-temporal continuity and re-combines them in novel ways in the process of scene reconstruction that underpins various forms of spatial cognition.

Opis:

European Commision adopted in July new regulations about laying down airspace usage requirements and operating procedures concerning performance based navigation. It is next step in realization of the the global program PBN ICAO. At the 36th General Assembly of ICAO held in 2007, the Republic of Poland agreed to ICAO resolution A36-23 which urges all States to implement PBN. In future aviation concepts the use of Performance Based Navigation (PBN) is considered to be a major Air Traffic Management (ATM) concept element. ICAO has drafted standards and implementation guidance for PBN in the ICAO Doc 9613 “PBN Manual”. The Based Performance Navigation Concept represents and shift from sensor-based to performance based navigation connected with criteria for navigation: accuracy, integrity, availability, continuity and functionality depending on the phase of the flight. Through PBN and changes in the communication, surveillance and ATM domain, many advanced navigation applications are possible to improve airspace efficiency, improve airport sustainability, reduce the environmental impact of air transport in terms of noise and emission, increase safety and improve flight efficiency.

This paper mainly focuses on the impact of the change in the political equilibrium in the East caused by the effects of the Arab invasions on the main communication routes in Byzantine Central Anatolia. Beginning in the 640s and continuing for over 150 years, these incursions had an impact on the ways in which major routes in and through the new frontier zone were used, reflecting in part the fact that during this period the Taurus mountain range constituted the natural frontier between the Byzantines and the Arabs. The main communication routes in Central Anatolia, which lie on the northwest-southeast axis, were of importance in terms of the changing role of the main urban centres established along them, since Arab attacks were directed at both major and minor urban and fortified centres in Central Anatolia, as the Byzantine and Arab sources mention. Although the main centres such as Ancyra and Dorylaion were affected by the attacks, these and most other major cities continued to exist throughout the period in question. In this regard, the continued existence of such centres determined the ways in which the major routes of communication were used. A study of the changes in the role and functions of the cities in central Anatolia may thus help to understand the use of the main routes, based on the archaeological, i.e. building structures, ceramics, etc., and textual evidence, including that from narrative sources.

The experimental study of the vitality of the vocabulary of the Polish language is based on the example of the collection of names and definitions of men and women, which are used in the works of the outstanding Polish writer – Stefan Żeromski (1864 –1925). These words (a total of 864 words) were set against their vitality in the idiolect of the author of the article (born in the year 1932). Thereafter they were compared with the condition of the national vocabulary documented in two lexicons of the Polish language edited by W. Doroszewski (based on the canon of texts of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century) and edited by S. Dubisz (incorporating the modern language). The experiment was based on the verification of the continuity of the life of words in the idiolect of the direct witness and participant in the long-term period of the life of the vocabulary. The conclusions, which were drawn up on the basis of this study, are as follows: the permanent vitality of words (lexical and semantic) is maintained during a longer period in the live public communication, as compared to the lexicons. 56.7% of the collection of words used in Żeromski’s letters were preserved in the author’s idiolect. Besides, during a period of more than 150 years, several caesuras (turning points) in the life of specified groups of the analyzed vocabulary were observed. The most expressive caesura occurred at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21th century; during this period, the life of many words – including the live language of communication – which had been used before, discontinued. The external reasons are mainly the systemic changes, which took place after the World War II, and most recently – the civilization and cultural changes.

Opis:

The article discusses the Spatial Continuity Diagram (SCD) that enables to collect, process and graphically present significant information related to architectural and urban features of buildings in a city. However, in the case of a group of buildings with a diffused feature of a determined quantity, the SCD leads to the identical degree of homogeneity. The author of the article focuses on the issue using examples of the existing development in Szczecin, Poland. While following the idea of the author of the SCD, he has analysed distances between particular categories of features and confirmed the need to enhance the precision of the method by complementing studies with an additional algorithm that analyses the spatial concentration of specific features and categories of features found in city houses.
Artykuł dotyczy Diagramu Ciągłości Przestrzennej, który pozwala na zebranie, przetworzenie i opracowanie graficzne istotnych danych o najważniejszych cechach architektoniczno- urbanistycznych miejskiej zabudowy. Jednakże dla zespołów budynków o różnym rozproszeniu badanej cechy, przy tym samym ilościowym jej udziale, DCP da identyczny stopień jednorodności. Autor artykułu skupia się na tym zagadnieniu opierając się na przykładach istniejącej zabudowy Szczecina. Podążając za rozważaniami autora metody DCP, analizuje zależności odległości między poszczególnymi kategoriami cechy i potwierdza, zasadność doprecyzowanie tej metody poprzez uzupełnienie badań dodatkowym algorytmem analizującym stopień koncentracji przestrzennej poszczególnych cech i kategorii cech zabudowy miejskiej.

Armia stale rozwija zdolności na polu walki we wszystkim domenach i w wielu aspektach. Dotyczy to również kwestii Energii Pola Walki (EPW, ang. battlefield energy) – obszaru wielodomenowego, ścisłe powiązanego z logistyką i funkcjonowaniem sprzętu. Wiele krajów intensywnie angażuje się w rozwój i produkcję różnorodnego sprzętu wojskowego napędzanego energią elektryczną, od wyposażenia indywidualnego po pojazdy, statki powietrzne czy jednostki dla Marynarki Wojennej. Najnowsze osiągnięcia naukowe dotyczące technologii powiązanej z energią umożliwiają znaczne wydłużenie efektywności i czasu działania nie tylko sensorów, podzespołów, ale i całych systemów uzbrojenia. Energia na polu walki zabiera nowego znaczenia strategicznego i jest jednym z elementów rozwoju domeny cichej, wyposażenia i sprzętu o znacznie obniżonej sygnaturze akustycznej. Rozwój EPW wpisuje się także w działania związane z redukcją emisji CO2 i zmniejszaniem zależności od paliw kopalnych. Zmiany w EPW są wynikiem oddziaływań płynących z wielu obszarów: prawnych, politycznych, technologicznych, ekonomicznych czy militarnych. Celem artykułu jest określenie kluczowych determinantów otoczenia wpływających na rozwój i wykorzystanie EPW. Do ich opisania wykorzystano odmianę metody analizy otoczenia PEST (ang. Political, Economic, Social, Technological) – PLMTE (ang. Political, Legal, Military, Technological, Economic).
The Army is constantly developing battlefield capabilities in all domains and in many aspects. This includes the issue of battlefield energy, a multi-domain area closely linked to logistics and equipment operation. Many countries are intensively involved in the development and production of a variety of military equipment powered by electricity, from individual equipment to vehicles, aircraft or units for the Navy. The latest scientific advances in energy-related technology make it possible to significantly extend the efficiency and operating time of not only sensors, components, but also entire weapons systems. Energy on the battlefield is taking on a new strategic importance and is one of the elements in the development of the silent domain, equipment and hardware with a significantly reduced acoustic signature. The development of battlefield energy is also part of efforts to cut CO2 emissions and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Changes in battlefield energy are the result of influences coming from many areas: legal, political, technological, economic or military. The purpose of this article is to identify the key determinants of the environment affecting the development and use of battlefield energy. We study optimal control of systems governed by a coupled system of hemivariational inequalities, modeling a dynamic thermoviscoelastic problem, which describes frictional contact between a body and a foundation. We employ the Kelvin-Voigt vis-coelastic law, include the thermal effects and consider the general nonmonotone and multivalued subdifferential boundary conditions. We consider optimal control problem for boundary and distributed parameter control systems, time optimal control problem and maximum stay control problem. We deliver conditions that guarantee the existence of optimal solutions.

Aim: The article is intended to contribute to a discussion on risks related to the CoViD-19 pandemic, which was started in the last issues of this journal. Findings: The article discusses the thesis that conventional risk management is reaching its limits in its application in companies, particularly with regard to low-probability but high-impact events its applications seems nor appropriate. In complex and tightly coupled systems like global supply chains, catastrophic events must be considered "normal". The risk of a global pandemic is well known, and at the end of 2019 the first signs of an impending outbreak were also evident. Nevertheless, the global pandemic and the gradual lockdown was surprising in that no precautionary measures were taken. Therefore, this paper argues for a change of perspective from traditional risk management to BCM and for increasing the resilience of supply chains. The paper presents the specific method that was developed for studying existing architectural and urban structures. It has been called the Spatial Continuity Diagram. The Spatial Continuity Diagram Method can be applied for preparing guidelines which help supplementing or extending existing urban clusters while avoiding spatial or functional incongruities between existing and new buildings. The comparison between theoretical and numerical solutions of the reflection/transmission problem for the acoustic plane wave normally incident on the discontinuity surface between two nonlinear lossy media was presented. Numerical calculations made under the assumption that the two media have the same impedance, allow to single out the effect of nonlinearities in the description of the reflection and transmission phenomena, so they agreed with theoretical predictions. It was shown that theoretically obtained and numerically calculated results mutually confirmed themselves.

This paper attempts to sketch out a theoretical framework that addresses the particular needs of living heritage. ICCROM has been at the forefront of developing a conservation practice which addresses the concerns of living heritage such as religious and pilgrimage sites (e.g. Wijesuriya 2015; Wijesuriya, Thompson, and Court 2017), and others have considered the implications for the conservation process (e.g. Poulios 2014). However, to date there has been no attempt to develop a theoretical foundation for these practices. In place of the still-dominant understanding (at least as encountered in much Western practice) of historic buildings as primarily art-historical, this paper proposes a narrative approach that allows the site or building to remain within its cultural/religious context, including an acceptance of ongoing change. While the argument proceeds from Western sources, it invites dialogue with complementary understandings of the working of tradition from other regions of the world. Any theoretical model for living heritage must address the central question of how living buildings endure between generations, that is, their continuity between past, present and future. Since modernity entails a commitment to a radical discontinuity with the past, such an approach must engage with the resources of premodernity to develop (or perhaps return to) a non-modern understanding of tradition as developmental and creative (Author, 2017). The principal sources used in the investigation of this proposed narrative approach include Alasdair MacIntyre’s rehabilitation of tradition, Hans-Georg Gadamer’s development of philosophical hermeneutics and Paul Ricoeur’s work on narrative and time.
W artykule podjęto próbę określenia ram teoretycznych dla potrzeb żywego dziedzictwa. ICCROM jest liderem w opracowywaniu praktyk konserwatorskich w zakresie żywego dziedzictwa, jako miejsca kultu religijnego. Do tej pory nie podjęto jednak próby stworzenia podstaw teoretycznych dla tych praktyk. W miejsce wciąż dominującego definiowania (przynajmniej w większości zachodnich praktyk) obiektów zabytkowych głównie pod kątem ich historycznych wartości, niniejszy artykuł proponuje podejście narracyjne, które pozwala miejscom lub budynkom pozostać w ich kontekście kulturowym / religijnym, przy jednoczesnej akceptacji zachodzących zmian. Choć podejście to wywodzi się ze źródeł zachodnich, uznaje konieczność zrozumienia tradycji innych regionów świata. Każdy teoretyczny model dla żywego dziedzictwa musi odpowiadać na zasadnicze pytanie, w jaki sposób istniejące budynki przetrwają różnice pokoleń, to znaczy ciągłość między przeszłością, teraźniejszością i przyszłością. Ponieważ współczesność pociąga za sobą zobowiązanie do radykalnego zerwania z przeszłością, takie podejście musi angażować zasoby przednowoczesności, aby rozwinąć (a może przywrócić) nienowoczesne rozumienie tradycji jako rozwojowej i twórczej. Główne źródła wykorzystane w badaniu proponowanego podejścia narracyjnego obejmują rehabilitację tradycji Alasdaira MacIntyre'a, rozwój hermeneutyki filozoficznej Hansa-Georga Gadamera oraz prace Paula Ricoeura nad narracją i czasem.

The article presents a method for identify, analyze and evaluate risks, which cause disruption of the production process in the main department of Steel Mill. For the selected failure was showed a particular algorithm and a list of spare parts to minimize losses due to frequent disruptions. To elaborate plans in case of failure used different kinds of quality tools that improved the process of collect and process data from the company.

Całość działania jest rozumiana jako strategiczna i taktyczna zdolność i instytucji do reagowania na incydenty i zakłócenia w funkcjonowaniu biznesowym oraz do ograniczania strat w przypadku wystąpienia tych czynników szkodliwych, zaś bezpieczeństwo informacji związane jest z ochroną integralności, dostępności i poufności informacji. Artykuł przedstawia założenia i dotychczasowe rezultaty projektu celowego dotyczącego opracowania komputerowo wspomaganego systemu zarządzania przeznaczonego dla firm i instytucji, dla których aspekt ciągłości procesów biznesowych oraz bezpieczeństwa informacji jest szczególnie istotny. W artykule podsumowano prace nad modelem systemu, w tym studia wykonalności dotyczące różnych aspektów oprogramowania tworzonego na podstawie tych modeli. Zwrócono uwagę na możliwe zastosowania tworzonego systemu, w tym również w dziedzinie górnictwa.
The topic of the article is related to the joint implementation of two widely used standards, BS 25999 concerning business continuity and ISO/IEC 27001 - information security, within one integrated management system. Business continuity is understood as a strategic ability of an organization to react to incidents and disturbances in its business functioning and to mitigate losses in case these harmful factors occur. Information security, in turn, is related to the protection of information integrity, availability and confidentiality. The article presents the assumptions and recently achieved results of a specific-targeted project whose objective is to develop a computer-supported management system for organizations which set a lot of store by the continuity of business processes and information security. The works on the system model were summarized, including a feasibility study concerning different aspects of software which is developed on the basis of these models. Additionally, the application possibilities of the newly developed system were pointed out, including those in the mining industry.

AbstractThe distinction between form and substance (content), which is derived from philosophy, plays a significant role in contemporary scientific legal discourse. Therefore, it seems important to confront the phenomena of legal continuity with the various understandings of the form vs. substance distinction, found in scientific legal discourse. The analysis is justified by the fact that in scientific legal discourse the indication that a certain form of reasoning is ‘formalist’ or that a certain phenomenon is ‘simply formal’ but not ‘substantive’ has a strong evaluative aspect. In his earlier works the author of the article has proposed, by referring inter alia to the works of K. Renner and h. Collins, to use the concept of ‘legal survivals’ in order to conceptualise the phenomenon of legal continuity ocurring in the case of continued existence of concrete and determined legal institutions, despite a change of the political and economic system, accompanied often by the change of socio-economic function of those surviving legal institutions. This allows to formulate a research question as to whether legal survivals are of a ‘formal’ or ‘substantive’ nature. Referring to four distinct ways of understanding the form vs. substance dichotomy in contempoary scientific legal discourse, the present paper replies to the research question by indicating in which sense of the distinction can legal continuity be described as ‘formal’, and in which as ‘substantive’.
StreszczenieRozróżnienie na formę i materię (treść, substancję), wywodzące się z filozofii, odgrywa znaczącą rolę we współczesnym naukowym dyskursie prawniczym. Z tego względu istotne wydaje się skonfrontowanie zjawiska ciągłości prawnej z zastanymi w naukowym dyskursie prawniczym rozumieniami rozróżnienia na formę i materię. Celowość podjętej analizy uzasadniona jest faktem, że w naukowym dyskursie prawniczym wskazanie, że pewien sposób rozumowania ma charakter „formalistyczny”, lub też że dane zjawisko jest „czysto formalne”, lecz nie „materialne” ma silny charakter ocenny. We wcześniejszych pracach autor zaproponował, w nawiązaniu do prac m.in. K. Rennera i h. Collinsa, posługiwanie się koncepcją „reliktów prawnych” (legal survivals) w celu konceptualizacji zjawiska ciągłości prawnej poprzez odwołanie się do trwania, pomimo transformacji ustrojowej, konkretnych i określonych instytucji prawnych, które w nowych warunkach częstokroć zmieniają swoją funkcję społeczno-gospodarczą. Daje to asumpt do sformułowania pytania badawczego, czy relikty prawne mają charakter „formalny” czy „materialny”. Odwołując się do czterech różnych sposobów rozumienia dychotomii forma/materia we współczesnym naukowym dyskursie prawniczym, praca odpowiada na tak postawione pytanie badawcze, wskazując, w jakim znaczeniu ciągłość prawna może zostać określona jako „formalna”, a w jakim – jako „materialna”.

Many construction projects contain several identical or similar units, such as floors in multistory buildings, houses in housing developments, sections of pipelines or highways. Repetitive processes arise from the subdivision of a generalized construction process into specific activities associated with particular units. In many cases it is possible to perform individual processes (repeated in each units) in alternative ways (modes). Regardless of the construction project procurement system, duration and cost are the key factors determining project’s economic efficiency and fulfillment of the owner’s needs and requirements. Minimizing project duration and cost are the most important criteria for schedule optimization. Processes that repeat from unit to unit are realized by specialized crews. Uninterrupted resource utilization becomes an extremely important issue for scheduling repetitive processes to minimize employment costs. In this paper, the problem of selecting appropriate modes and minimizing the total project cost and with a constraint on project duration is presented with respect to the continuity of the crews’ work. The paper uses the mixed integer linear programming to model this problem and uses a case study to illustrate it.

The study highlights the transition of the temporal adverbs always/algates, expressing continuity in time, and ago, expressing remoteness in time, from their historical prototypical concept of space to that of time and beyond. In these processes both metonymy and metaphor play an important role. The data regarding always and algates suggest a gradual cline from SPACE to TIME and an array of other meanings, subsumed under the cover-term UNCONSTRAINEDNESS. The SPACE-TIME-X chain (with X standing for other more abstract meanings) seems to occur in most languages. The semantic development of these adverbs also features all the properties associated with a change like this: metonymy followed by ever increasing or proliferating metaphorization, fuzzy or non-discrete categories (mostly in the stages of transition). Ago owes its origin to the grammaticalization of the past participle of a verb of movement. This spatial concept is metaphorically mapped on to a new temporal prototype. As compared with always/algates, the temporal frame of ago is monosemous and marked throughout by metaphorization from ‘remoteness in space’ to ‘remoteness in time’.

Since the beginning of the Trump Administration, analysts of American foreign policy have observed several changes in the style substance and style of Washington’s international behavior with regard to both foes and friends. President Trump in his rhetoric (including social media communication) and style represent a disturbing discontinuity, especially for allies that undermines the stability of American international commitments. American allies are forced to develop new strategies for managing this new risk in relations with Washington. This paper examines the tactics employed by the government in Warsaw in that regard.

We present a number of Wiener's type necessary and sufficient conditions (in terms of divergence of integrals or series involving a condenser capacity) for a compact set E ⊂ ℂ to be regular with respect to the Dirichlet problem. The same capacity is used to give a simple proof of the following known theorem [2, 6]: If E is a compact subset of ℂ such that $d(t^{-1}E ∩ {|z-a| ≤ 1}) ≥ const > 0$ for 0 < t ≤ 1 and a ∈ E, where d(F) is the logarithmic capacity of F, then the Green function of ℂ \ E with pole at infinity is Hölder continuous.

Proofs of the fundamental theorem of algebra can be divided upinto three groups according to the techniques involved: proofs that rely onreal or complex analysis, algebraic proofs, and topological proofs. Algebraicproofs make use of the fact that odd-degree real polynomials have real roots.This assumption, however, requires analytic methods, namely, the intermediatevalue theorem for real continuous functions. In this paper, we developthe idea of algebraic proof further towards a purely algebraic proof of theintermediate value theorem for real polynomials. In our proof, we neither usethe notion of continuous function nor refer to any theorem of real and complexanalysis. Instead, we apply techniques of modern algebra: we extend thefield of real numbers to the non-Archimedean field of hyperreals via an ultraproductconstruction and explore some relationships between the subringof limited hyperreals, its maximal ideal of infinitesimals, and real numbers.

Opis:

19th-century real analysis received a major impetus from Cauchy's work. Cauchy mentions variable quantities, limits, and infinitesimals, but the meaning he attached to these terms is not identical to their modern meaning. Some Cauchy historians work in a conceptual scheme dominated by an assumption of a teleological nature of the evolution of real analysis toward a preordained outcome. Thus, Gilain and Siegmund-Schultze assume that references to limite in Cauchy's work necessarily imply that Cauchy was working with an Archimedean continuum, whereas infinitesimals were merely a convenient figure of speech, for which Cauchy had in mind a complete justification in terms of Archimedean limits. However, there is another formalization of Cauchy's procedures exploiting his limite, more consistent with Cauchy's ubiquitous use of infinitesimals, in terms of the standard part principle of modern infinitesimal analysis. We challenge a misconception according to which Cauchy was allegedly forced to teach infinitesimals at the Ecole Polytechnique. We show that the debate there concerned mainly the issue of rigor, a separate one from infinitesimals. A critique of Cauchy's approach by his contemporary de Prony sheds light on the meaning of rigor to Cauchy and his contemporaries. An attentive reading of Cauchy's work challenges received views on Cauchy's role in the history of analysis and indicates that he was a pioneer of infinitesimal techniques as much as a harbinger of the Epsilontik.
Dziewiętnastowieczna rzeczywista analiza otrzymała duży impuls w pracach Cauchy'ego. Cauchy posługuje się pojęciem zmiennej, granicy i nieskończenie małej, ale znaczenie, które wiąże z tymi terminami jest inne niż u jemu współczesnych autorów. Niektórzy historycy Cauchy'ego utrzymują schemat pojęciowy zdominowany przez założenie teleologicznej natury ewolucji rzeczywistej analizy w kierunku z góry ustalonej konstrukcji. Zatem Gilain i Siegmund-Schultze zakładają, że odniesienia do granicy (limite) w pracy Cauchy'ego niekoniecznie oznaczają, że Cauchy posługiwał się kontinuum Archimedesa, podczas gdy nieskończenie małe były jedynie wygodną figurą retoryczną, dla której Cauchy miał na myśli pełne uzasadnienie w kategoriach granic Archimedesa. Istnieje jednak inna formalizacja procedur Cauchy'ego wykorzystujących jego granice(limite), bardziej spójna z wszechobecnym użyciem nieskończenie małych Cauchy'ego, w kategoriach standardowej części zasady nowoczesnej analizy nieskończenie małej. Podważamy błędne przekonanie, zgodnie z którym Cauchy został rzekomo zmuszony do nauczania nieskończenie małych w Ecole Polytechnique. Pokazujemy, że debata dotyczyła głównie kwestii ścisłości, oddzielnego od nieskończenie małych. Krytyka podejścia Cauchy'ego przez jego współczesnego de Prony rzuca światło na znaczenie ścisłości dla Cauchy'ego i jego współczesnych. Uważna lektura wyzwań Cauchy'ego spotkała się z poglądem na rolę Cauchy'ego w historii analizy i wskazuje, że był on pionierem nieskończenie małych technik, podobnie jak zapowiedzią Epsilontiki.

In the light of research conducted both in Poland and scientific centres abroad, it should be noted that one of the concepts that are becoming more and more popular in the state security and defence sector is the concept of business continuity management. With regard to logistical processes, it is used in a special way to ensure their smooth running through the proper preparation of logistical entities to continue operations at a previously accepted by the client level in the event of disturbances. In the light of the above, the aim of the article is to identify the possibility of common use of the assumptions of the concept of business continuity management in the process of managing logistical processes within the state security and defence system.
W świetle badań prowadzonych zarówno w Polsce jak i w zagranicznych ośrodkach naukowych, należy zauważyć, że jedną z koncepcji cieszących się coraz większą popularnością w sektorze bezpieczeństwa i obronności państwa jest koncepcja zarządzania ciągłością działania. W odniesieniu do procesów logistycznych jest ona wykorzystywana w sposób szczególny do zapewnienia ich niezakłóconego przebiegu poprzez właściwe przygotowanie podmiotów logistycznych do kontynuowania działań na akceptowalnym przez klienta, wcześniej określonym poziomie w sytuacji wystąpienia zakłóceń. W świetle powyższego za cel artykułu przyjęto identyfikację możliwości powszechnego wykorzystania założeń koncepcji zarządzania ciągłością działania w procesie zarządzania procesami logistycznymi w systemie bezpieczeństwa i obronności państwa.

The presence of symplasmic isolation and symplasmic continuity which are functional aspects of cell-to-cell communication, had been studied in cambium of Acer pseudoplatanus and Ulmus minor, with hope that uniqueness of this meristem, exemplified by its morphology and seasonal variations in its activity is also manifested in differences in the efficiency of communication between cambial cells during the year. The degree of symplasmic continuity was estimated by loading the fluorescent symplasmic tracer to the stem and following its distribution in a population of cambial cells observed on tangential, transverse and radial sections. In active cambium the tracer did not enter the rays. This suggested that the ray and fusiform cells, growing and dividing intensively at different rates were specifically isolated from each other. In the state of dormancy the tracer was present also in the rays implying continuity between the two types of cambial cells. Temporal restriction in tracer spreading from secondary xylem to cambial region was observed on transverse sections in both physiological states of the meristem. Higher degree of symplasmic isolation in active cambium is, most probably, associated with functional distinctiveness of ray and fusiform cells. We hypothesize further that the symplasmic continuity in dormant cambium results from the open conformation states of plasmodesmata, because the energy costs of these states are low. It is reasonable strategy when cambial cells do not divide and maintenance of their functional individuality is not necessary.

In this work the method of analyzing of the absolutely continuous spectrum for self-adjoint operators is considered. For the analysis it is used an approximation of a self-adjoint operator A by a sequence of operators An with absolutely continuous spectrum on a given interval [a, b] which converges to A in a strong sense on a dense set. The notion of equi-absolute continuity is also used. It was found a sufficient condition of absolute continuity of the operator A spectrum on the finite interval [a, b] and the condition for that the corresponding spectral density belongs to the class Lp[a,b] (p ≥ 1). The application of this method to Jacobi matrices is considered. As one of the results we obtain the following assertion: Under some mild assumptions, suppose that there exist a constant C > 0 and a positive function g(x) ∈ Lp[a, b] (p ≥ 1).such that for all n sufficiently large and almost all [formula] the estimate [formula] holds, where Pn(x) are 1st type polynomials associated with Jacobi matrix (in the sense of Akhiezer) and bn is a second diagonal sequence of Jacobi matrix. Then the spectrum of Jacobi matrix operator is purely absolutely continuous on [a, b] and for the corresponding spectral density ƒ (x) we have ƒ (x) ∈ Lp[a,b].

Some conditions under which any subadditive function is periodic are presented. It is shown that the boundedness from below in a neighborhood of a point of a subadditive periodic (s.p.) function implies its nonnegativity, and the boundedness from above in a neighborhood of a point implies it nonnegativity and global boundedness from above. A necessary and sufficient condition for existence of a subadditive periodic extension of a function ƒ0 : [0, 1) ? R is given. The continuity, differentiability of a s.p. function is discussed, and an example of a continuous nowhere differentiable s.p. function is presented. The functions which are the sums of linear functions and s.p. functions are characterized. The refinements of some known results on the continuity of subadditive functions are presented.

Opis:

Elastic optical networking is a potential candidate to support dynamic traffic with heterogeneous data rates and variable bandwidth requirements with the support of the optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing technology (OOFDM). During the dynamic network operation, lightpath arrives and departs frequently and the network status updates accordingly. Fixed routing and alternate routing algorithms do not tune according to the current network status which are computed offline. Therefore, offline algorithms greedily use resources with an objective to compute shortest possible paths and results in high blocking probability during dynamic network operation. In this paper, adaptive routing algorithms are proposed for shortest path routing as well as alternate path routing which make routing decision based on the maximum idle frequency slots (FS) available on different paths. The proposed algorithms select an underutilized path between different choices with maximum idle FS and efficiently avoids utilizing a congested path. The proposed routing algorithms are compared with offline routing algorithms as well as an existing adaptive routing algorithm in different network scenarios. It has been shown that the proposed algorithms efficiently improve network performance in terms of FS utilization and blocking probability during dynamic network operation.

The subject of the considerations are the axiological preferences of Polish youth seen in a comparative context over the last 30 years. The presented content is related to the quantitative researches review.The starting point is the period of systemic transformation, which was accompanied by a deep "cultural rupture" expressed in the conflict of values relating to the sphere of ideology, politics and economy. Young people were often characterized by a feeling of "generational abandonment", insecurity and confusion. On the other hand, the post-transformation time, symbolically initiated by Poland's accession to the European Union, entails a shift towards pragmatic and ethos orientations. Although the prolonged entry into adulthood is accompanied by moratoria, post-transformation means significant identity and social changes, which largely corresponds to the development of human capital, manifested on the level of skills, intuition and creative potential. However, it should be remembered that predicting future changes in the values of Polish society, especially young people, carries a considerable risk of unverifiability.

Opis:

A role of radial corona current in a lightning discharge is discussed in the paper. It is shown that the corona current concept previously introduced by Cooray for lightning return stroke models of distributed-current-source (DCS) type, and later, by Maslowski and Rakov for lumped-current-source (LCS) type models enables to show duality between these two types of models. Further, it is demonstrated that the corona current is useful during consideration of dynamics of the lightning-channel corona sheath. As an example of application of presented approach a relaxation model of charge motion in the corona sheath is analysed together with plots which show the rate of expansion and shrinkage of the lightning corona sheath on both microsecond and millisecond time scales.

In the paper author refers to the passage from The Prince of Niccolò Machiavelli, in which the famous Florentine says that there are two kinds of combat: one with laws, the other with force. Author defend the claim that by writing this, Machiavelli opened up a new and still unused way of thinking about nature-culture relationship. A follower of this way of thinking withdraws from saying that nature is surpassed by culture, or that nature is nothing else but a subject of an on-going human speculation, and rebuts the sole hypothesis that what there is, is nothing but nature. Modern Western culture entrusted its key opposition to the nature-culture relationship. By and large, political philosophy is a story about surpassing the nature in order to establish a state under the rule of law. According to Machiavelli, the juxtaposition of nature and culture, the narrative on surpassing by politics the laws of nature, just as well as the narrative on us being stuck in it, are all utterly wrong. Accepting the ambiguity of the opposition between nature and culture and assuming that the social contract is indeed fictitious, author would like to question Machiavelli about his vision of subjectivity and politics in a world where “natural objects” appear to be socialized, and “cultural subjects” appear to be dissocial. In the way author puts the question: does Machiavelli recommend monstrosity by writing stories in praise of monstrosity as it may well seem?

Opis:

The article analyses the historical roofs and types of traditional Chinese pavilions. As all ancient Chinese architecture, the small architectural forms are based on traditions, an ancestral connection with previous periods, a distinct hierarchy and a harmonious connection with nature. A pavilion as a small architectural form had high adaptability to various functions and natural and climatic conditions. Some types of pavilions (for instance, military, temple, postal pavilions and pavilions on bridges) appeared earlier, and on their basis, other types were developed with time (a bell and drum, a garden and park pavilion). In the process of development of a pavilion as a type of construction, its layout, volumetric-spatial composition, decoration and designs were expressed in numerous options; moreover, pavilions had their regional peculiarities in different territories of China. In each case, the main point was the harmonious combination of a pavilion and a landscape. Based on the analysis of the drawings of the old pavilions, the principal types of silhouettes and shapes of the roofs, the symbolic meaning of colors and decor were determined.
W artykule przeanalizowano historyczne dachy i rodzaje tradycyjnych chińskich pawilonów. Jak w każdej historycznej architekturze, także w Chinach małe formy architektoniczne opierają się na tradycji, nawiązaniu do poprzednich okresów, wyraźnej hierarchii i harmonijnym połączeniu z naturą. Pawilon jako mała forma architektoniczna cechował się wysoką adaptowalnością do różnych funkcji oraz warunków naturalnych i klimatycznych. Niektóre typy pawilonów (np. wojskowe, sakralne i pocztowe, pawilony na mostach) pojawiły się wcześniej, a następnie wzorując się na nich, z czasem opracowano także inne wzorce (dzwonek i bęben, pawilon ogrodowy i parkowy). W procesie rozwoju pawilonu jako rodzaju konstrukcji jego układ, kompozycja przestrzenna oraz dekoracja przybierały różne formy. Co więcej, pawilony miały swoje regionalne cechy w różnych rejonach Chin. W każdym przypadku najistotniejszym punktem było harmonijne połączenie pawilonu i krajobrazu. Na podstawie analizy rysunków dawnych pawilonów, podstawowych typów konstrukcji i kształtów dachów określono także symboliczne znaczenie ich kolorów i wystroju.

Opis:

The paper attempts to provide an analyses of poetically-encoded discourse about generation change in selected verses written by outstanding Russian poets of the 19th and 20th century – Pushkin, Zhukovsky, Baratynsky, Esenin and Mayakovsky, under a partial comparison with similar motives appearing by the German poet Goethe. The central problem is the axiological assessment of continuity vs. conflict of generations as well as the general confrontation with the “challenge of time”, both from existential and socially determined perspectives. The concepts of positive vs. negative connoted changes and the problem of their acceptability in the analysed verses are presented by means of a formal-semantic description with a special stress on language entities denoting the conceptual sphere of time and generation change.

W tekście opisano, na podstawie badań własnych, przypadek 65-letniej kobiety z zespołem Aspergera. Głównym celem badań było uzyskanie odpowiedzi na pytanie: jaka jest starość badanej kobiety z zespołem Aspergera? Artykuł rozpoczyna się od wprowadzenia teoretycznego w poruszaną problematykę, gdzie przedstawiono najważniejsze zagadnienia dotyczące zespołu Aspergera oraz starości i starzenia się z zaakcentowaniem teorii ciągłości. Następnie uwzględniono charakterystykę badanej kobiety w kontekście jej sytuacji rodzinnej, bytowej, edukacyjno-zawodowej, zdrowotnej, relacji międzyludzkich. Artykuł kończą wnioski i podsumowanie. Należy przy tym podkreślić, że opisany przypadek, może być traktowany jedynie jako badanie pilotażowe i przygotowanie gruntu dla kolejnych eksploracji o szerszym zakresie.
The text describes, based on own research, the case of a 65-year-old woman with Asperger’s syndrome. The main aim of the research was to answer the question: what is the age of the examined woman with Asperger’s syndrome? The article begins with a theoretical introduction to the discussed issues, where the most important issues concerning Asperger’s syndrome and old age and aging are presented with emphasis on continuity theory. Next, the characteristics of the examined woman in the context of her family, living, educational and professional situation, health and interpersonal relations were taken into account. The article concludes with conclusions and a summary. It should be stressed that the described case can only be treated as a pilot study and preparation of the ground for further explorations of a wider scope.

In this manuscript the theoretical studies of aluminisation by CVD method is shown. The bi-velocity model of multicomponent and multiphase diffusion is used to calculate the growth of β-NiAl phase under different ranges of miscibility (HCl to H2 ratio). The composition dependent diffusivities of β-NiAl and Ni3Al at 1350 K are presented and used in calculations.
W artykule zaprezentowano matematyczny model procesu aluminiowania metodą osadzania z fazy gazowej – CVD. Model matematyczny opracowano na podstawie uogólnionej metody Darkena – dwu-prędkości. Był podstawą oszacowania kinetyki powstawania kryształów fazy β-NiAl w zależności od natężenia przepływu dostarczonego gazu reakcyjnego – proporcja HCl:H2. W symulacji numerycznej uwzględniono wzrost kryształów dwóch faz pośrednich – β-NiAl oraz Ni3Al w temperaturze 1350 K – określono zmienne cząstkowe współczynniki dyfuzji składników.

Zrozumienie konotacji pomiędzy terminologią z zakresu odporności i niezawodności łańcuchów dostaw oraz synchronizacji procesów logistycznych może prowadzić do wzrostu skuteczności podmiotów na rynku. W artykule przeanalizowano podejścia do wyżej wymienionych pojęć oraz zaprezentowano praktyczny przykład analizy niezawodności i odporności systemu i odniesiono go do problematyki synchronizacji procesów logistycznych w przedsiębiorstwie.
Dependability and resilience of logistic systems is of fundamental importance for business entities. Highly dependable and resilient systems usually give significant advantage in business running over systems with lower level of these factors. Acknowledgment of connotation between terminology in the field of dependability, resilience and synchronization of logistics processes enables companies to grow their performance effectiveness. This article provides analysis of previously mentioned terms as well as case study of measuring system’s dependability and resilience with reference to synchronization of logistics processes in a company.

Opis:

We consider a direct approach to solving the mixedinteger nonlinear optimization problems with constraints depending on initial and terminal conditions of an ordinary differential equation. In order to obtain a finite-dimensional problem, the dynamics are approximated using discretization methods. In the framework of general one-step methods, we provide sufficient conditions for the convergence of this approach in the sense of the corresponding optimal values. The results are obtained by considering the discretized problem as a parametric mixed-integer nonlinear optimization problem in finite dimensions, where the step size for discretization of the dynamics is the parameter. In this setting, we prove the continuity of the optimal value function under a stability assumption for the integer feasible set and second-order conditions from nonlinear optimization. We address the necessity of the conditions on the example of pipe sizing problems for gas networks.
