Contemporary Russian Culturology
Opis:
Over the last twenty years Russian cultural sciences, known there under the, now well established, term culturology, exist and expand very vigorously. At the beginning of the 90’s culturology became a required course in all colleges equally including those specializing in liberal arts and technology. This new, important milestone started a dynamic, rich process of the science’s development and metamorphoses. Exploratory text by the Author was conceived with the goal of introducing these processes and outlining their consequences

Since the political tranformations in Poland in 1989, theatre has been the only area, not affectedby the hostile attitude towards Russian culture.Initially, that is the years 1989-1995, the changes made Russian literature disappear from thePolish artistic marked completely. Only the second half of the last 20th century decade balance to it.The slighttest fluctuactions have been noticed at the theatre, where Russian art is the second mostpopular after Polish. In the beginning of 21th century the new Russian literature and the new Russian drama are verypopular in Poland.

Opis:
The article surveys the concepts of ‘freedom’ (“svoboda”) in contemporary Russian poetry and points out that there is no single understanding of it but a whole complex of approaches. While the concept of “svoboda” seems to have been absorbed by the bigger and therefore less concrete one, “volya”, a certain evolution of the former notion can be observed as well. At the beginning of the 20th century ‘freedom’ was associated with a heroic attitude, during the Thaw it became a term for a collective domestic separation, after perestroika and glasnost the poets started to look for freedom as individuals, having nothing or very little in common with the society. Over the last years a new kind of inner emigration has been evolving, combined with a tendency towards ostentatious indifference to ‘traditional’ values.

contemporary Russian dramaturgy
Opis:
„New Drama” is the name of a theatrical-dramatic movement born in Russia in the end of XX beginning of XXI century. It brings together many authors, directors and actors. The article describes principal representations of the reality appearing in the contemporary Russian dramaturgy: the category of violence and the dramatic „image of the identity crisis”. Representations of four types of identification are discussed: essential, social, cultural and spiritual - which are the basis of the first typology of the New Drama’s conflict situations, characters and plots.

This paper deals with the word-formation of Mayakovsky’s neologisms, the principles of their composition and also the objects subjected to neologization. Attention is also paid to the Nachleben of these neologisms in contemporary Russian, based on the research into the Russian National Corpus. The paper is a result of the analysis of all Mayakovsky’s neologisms listed in A. Humesky’s book Majakovskij and His Neologisms (1964), except for those originated by the simple connection of two words or word components. The results were compared with the most recent work dealing with Mayakovsky’s neologisms, V. N. Valavin’s dictionary (Word-formation of Mayakovsky. An Attempt at a Dictionary of Occasiоnalisms). It is argued that the main word-formation principle is that of composition (substantives and adjectives) and suffixation (verbs), that even today many neologisms show surprising vitality, and also that not all of the neologisms ascribed to Mayakovsky are indeed his authorial creations.

The origin of myth as a genre points to its everlasting nature which results from both public and political demand. That is why also today it is a living category in different communities - an object of interest also for ethno-linguists. Russian myths and “dethronement” of Soviet myths make up two parallel and interpenetrating processes providing us with material which makes it possible to define the diversity of cognitive functions of this tool of effective cognition. The distinct excess of new myths and uncompromising criticism of Soviet myths is the evidence of specific mentality, specific frame of mind of the people (years 1989-2002). Their construct is wishful thinking, which is typical for the Russians, and the uncompromising nature of critical assessments of the “altars of the past” generally propagated (also in media).

Opis:
The article is devoted to the problem of feminism and gender in Russia and their influence on the development of contemporary women’s prose. The article deals with the most important features of Russian feminism taking into account the differences in relation to the movement in Western Europe. The author pays special attention to the influence of orthodox religion on the development of feminism in Russia as well as to the specific view of the role of woman and man in the society resulting from Russian culture. Religious and cultural impact over the specific character of Russian feminism is connected with the fact that in Russia a greater emphasis is placed on gender and not on sex. Therefore, the author believes that feminism in Russia has stimulated creativity of women in different fields of art and especially in literature.

Opis:
The author of this article analyzes the play The Siege by Evgeny Grishkovets, a renowned contemporary Russian writer. She places it against a background of the rest of his works, exposing essential features that characterize his entire dramaturgy, such as the presence of metatheatrical devices, recognition of the importance of contact with the audience, and emphasis on stage performance. The analysis also draws attention to such elements of the play as non-homogeneous spatio-temoral framework, hybrid composition of characters, and parallel development of plot threads. Special attention is paid to the “imprisoning” of characters in discourses and the ambivalent nature of cultural symbols. As the author points out, The Siege stands out in the Grishkovets’s oeuvre, both by departing from the dominant monodrama form and by juxtaposing key themes recurring in his works: the human experience of war, the reflection on the nature of time, the collapse of language referential abilities, and the impossibility of authentic communication.

Opis:
Alexander Sokurov is considered to be a creator who often attempts to settle with the uncomfortable past, at the same time revealing the mechanisms of the functioning of power and politics, including the policy of remembrance. The Russian Ark (2002) and Francofonia (2015), which divides over a dozen years and which seemingly concern two different countries and situations, are no different in this respect. And yet, using the same motif in them, i.e. the motif of the museum, Sokurov in Francofonia returns to events that he could not, for various reasons, deal with in a prior movie. We mean here the role of museums, “silent” witnesses of history. The evacuation of works of art from the Hermitage and the Louvre during the war is a source of pride and an element of the victorious narrative, but in the case of Hermitage it is impossible not to think about the price that the city and its inhabitants paid during their siege. They could not be evacuated as efficiently as the museum collections. And thus the idea of saving valuable works of the Hermitage will be invariably associated with the inept evacuation of the people of Leningrad. And it must be admitted that this is not the first opportunity when it comes to Sokurov to remind the world of the painful wound inflicted on the city of Neva and its inhabitants, not only by the Germans, but also to ask about the price of survival.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to present the plural forms of the first person found in Natalia Ivanovna Stepanova’s magical handbooks. The author (also known as the Siberian Healer) uses them for persuasive purposes: she tries to convince readers to use the magical practices (spells) she recommends. In the analysed material, mainly statements containing “inclusive we” are noted. Stepanova uses them to evoke a sense of community of experiences and values in her readers, as well as to invite them to joint actions and “include” them in the healers group that she represents. There are also forms of “exclusive we” in the handbooks under study. These forms play an important role in building Stepanova’s authenticity as a healer from Siberia: they help the author emphasise her close connection with her ancestors, who were famous for their healing practices and passed on their magical knowledge to her. The article also reflects on the specific communicative situation taking place in the interaction between the counsellor and the advice seeker, and highlights the problem of defining persuasion and manipulation.
W analizowanym materiale odnotowano przede wszystkim wypowiedzi zawierające „my inkluzywne”. Stiepanowa używa ich, by wywołać wrażenie wspólnoty doświadczeń i wartości, zaprosić czytelników do kolektywnego działania i „włączyć” do grupy znachorów, którą sama reprezentuje.

The creative principles and techniques of Anton Chekhov have proved attractive to modern writers. Many late-20th-century authors, e.g. Tendryakov or Sasha Sokolov, used the naiveté and naturalness of a child’s mind when depicting contradictions and controversial issues. A connection with Chekhov is evident in the development of the theme of a mental institution, its doctors and patients (Makanin, Pelevin). Also the Chekhovian principle of refusal to categorically judge the words and deeds of the characters gains fundamental importance (Dovlatov). It is from Chekhov that modern writers have learnt to present serious psychological issues and world-view questions through commonplace imagery.

In this way Sorokin is always situated on the border of two orders: the past and the future one. At the same time he is an inheritor and continuator of Daniil Kharm’s theatre of the Absurd, on the other hand he is also an innovator who introduces dramatic genre into the stage of surprising, aesthetic experiments.
