Opis:
The problem of cooperation of Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithms with steady-state economic optimisation is investigated in this paper. It is particularly important when the dynamics of disturbances is comparable with the dynamics of the process, since in such a case the classical hierarchical multilayer structure is likely to be not efficient and give the economic yield smaller than expected. This is because the economic nonlinear optimisation problem cannot be then solved on-line to update the optimal operating point as frequently as needed. On the other hand, simple target set-point optimisation based on linear models can be also insufficiently accurate. This paper introduces approximate formulations of the target set-point optimisation problem which tightly cooperates with the MPC and is solved as frequently as the MPC controller executes. Linear, linear-quadratic and piecewise-linear formulations are discussed, tuning guidelines are also given.

The paper is concerned with co-operation of model predictive control (MPC) algorithms with nonlinear economic optimisation. The problem is particularly important when dynamics of disturbances is comparable with dynamics of the process itself, since in such cases application of the classical multilayer (hierarchical) structure with infrequent economic optimisation may be not efficient. Two classes of control structures are investigated. In the first class an additional simplified optimisation is used which recalculates the operating point as frequently as the MPC controller executes. In the supplementary linear or quadratic programming optimisation problem approximate linear, linear-quadratic (updated on-line) or piecewise-linear models of the process are used. In the second class the economic optimisation and MPC manipulated variables computational load, approximate linear or linear-quadratic (updated on-line) models are used, then the resulting optimisation problem is of quadratic programming type.

Opis:
Dual-mode fuzzy dynamic matrix control (fuzzy DMC-FDMC) algorithms with guaranteed nominal stability for constrained nonlinear plants are presented. The algorithms join the advantages of fuzzy Takagi-Sugeno modeling and the predictive dual-mode approach in a computationally efficient version. Thus, they can bring an improvement in control quality compared with predictive controllers based on linear models and, at the same time, control performance similar to that obtained using more demanding algorithms with nonlinear optimization. Numerical effectiveness is obtained by using a successive linearization approach resulting in a quadratic programming problem solved on-line at each sampling instant. It is a computationally robust and fast optimization problem, which is important for on-line applications. Stability is achieved by appropriate introduction of dual-mode type stabilization mechanisms, which are simple and easy to implement. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is tested on a control system of a nonlinear plant-a distillation column with basic feedback controllers.

Opis:
The subject of this paper is to discuss selected effective known and novel structures for advanced process control and optimization. The role and techniques of model-based predictive control (MPC) in a supervisory (advanced) control layer are first shortly discussed. The emphasis is put on algorithm efficiency for nonlinear processes and on treating uncertainty in process models, with two solutions presented: the structure of nonlinear prediction and successive linearizations for nonlinear control, and a novel algorithm based on fast model selection to cope with process uncertainty. Issues of cooperation between MPC algorithms and on-line steady-state set-point optimization are next discussed, including integrated approaches. Finally, a recently developed two-purpose supervisory predictive set-point optimizer is discussed, designed to perform simultaneously two goals: economic optimization and constraints handling for the underlying unconstrained direct controllers.

Opis:
This paper describes high-performance permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) servo-drive with constrained state feedback (SFC) position controller. Superior behavior of the control system has been achieved by applying SFC with constraints handling method based on a posteriori model predictive approach (MPAC). The concept utilizes predictive equations obtained from discrete-time model of the PMSM to compute control signals which generate admissible values of the future state variables. The novelty of the proposed solution lies in the limitation of several state-space variables in servo-drive control system. Since MPAC has firstly been applied to limit more than one state-space variable of the plant, necessary conditions for introducing constraints into multivariable control system with SFC are depicted. Due to the low complexity of proposed algorithm, a low cost microprocessor, STM32F4, is employed to execute the state feedback position control with model predictive approach to constraints handling. Experimental results show that the proposed control method provides superior performance of PMSM servodrive with modern SiC based voltage source inverter (VSI).

This paper presents the application of a Multivariable Generalized Predictive Controller (MGPC) for simultaneous temperature and humidity control in a Heating, Ventilating and Air- Conditioning (HVAC) system. The multivariable controlled process dynamics is modeled using a set of MISO models on-line identified from measured input-output process data. The controller synthesis is based on direct optimization of selected quadratic cost function with respect to amplitude and rate input constraints. Efficacy of the proposed adaptive MGPC algorithm is experimentally demonstrated on a laboratory-scale model of HVAC system. To control the airconditioning part of system the designed multivariable predictive controller is considered in a cascade dual-rate control scheme with PID auxiliary controllers.

The primary objective of this paper is the custom design of an effective, yet relatively easy-to-implement, predictive control algorithm to maintain normoglycemia in patients with type 1 diabetes. The proposed patient-tailorable empirical model featuring the separated feedback dynamics to model the effect of insulin administration and carbohydrate intake was proven to be suitable for the synthesis of a high-performance predictive control algorithm for artificial pancreas. Within the introduced linear model predictive control law, the constraints were applied to the manipulated variable in order to reflect the technical limitations of insulin pumps and the typical nonnegative nature of the insulin administration. Similarly, inequalities constraints for the controlled variable were also assumed while anticipating suppression of hypoglycemia states during the automated insulin treatment. However, the problem of control infeasibility has emerged, especially if one uses too tight constraints of the manipulated and the controlled variable concurrently. To this end, exploiting the Farkas lemma, it was possible to formulate the helper linear programming problem based on the solution of which this infeasibility could be identified and the optimality of the control could be restored by adapting the constraints. This adaptation of constraints is asymmetrical, thus one can force to fully avoid hypoglycemia at the expense of mild hyperglycemia. Finally, a series of comprehensive in-silico experiments were carried out to validate the presented control algorithm and the proposed improvements. These simulations also addressed the control robustness in terms of the intersubject variability and the meal announcements uncertainty.

The paper considers finite-dimensional dynami cal control systems described by second order semilinear stationary ordinary differential state equations with delay in control. Using a generalized open mapping theorem, sufficient conditions for constrained local controllability in a given time interval are formulated and proved. These conditions require verification of constrained global controllability of the associated linear first-order dynamical control system. It is generally assumed that the values of admissible controls are in a convex and closed cone with vertex at zero. Moreover, several remarks and comments on the existing results for controllability of semilinear dynamical control systems are also presented. Finally, a simple numerical example which illustrates theoretical considerations is also given. It should be pointed out that the results given in the paper extend for the case of semilinear second-order dynamical systems constrained controllability conditions, which were previously known only for linear second-order systems.

Opis:
Iterative Learning Control (ILC) is a well-known method for control of systems performing repetitive jobs with high precision. This paper presents Constrained Output ILC (COILC) for non-linear state space constrained systems. In the existing literature there is no general solution for applying ILC to such systems. This novel method is based on the Bounded Error Algorithm (BEA) and resolves the transient growth error problem, which is a major obstacle in applying ILC to non-linear systems. Another advantage of COILC is that this method can be applied to constrained output systems. Unlike other ILC methods the COILC method employs an algorithm that stops the iteration before the occurrence of a violation in any of the state space constraints. This way COILC resolves both the hard constraints in the non-linear state space and the transient growth problem. The convergence of the proposed numerical procedure is proved in this paper. The performance of the method is evaluated through a computer simulation and the obtained results are compared to the BEA method for controlling non-linear systems. The numerical experiments demonstrate that COILC is more computationally effective and provides better overall performance. The robustness and convergence of the method make it suitable for solving constrained state space problems of non-linear systems in robotics.

We consider the problem of steering a finite string to the zero state in finite time from a given initial state by controlling the state at one boundary point while the other boundary point moves. As a possible application we have in mind the optimal control of a mining elevator, where the length of the string changes during the transportation process. During the transportation process, oscillations of the elevator-cable can occur that can be damped in this way. We present an exact controllability result for Dirichlet boundary control at the fixed end of the string that states that there exist exact controls for which the oscillations vanish after finite time. For the result we assume that the movements are Lipschitz continuous with a Lipschitz constant, whose absolute value is smaller than the wave speed. In the result, we present the minimal time, for which exact controllability holds, this time depending on the movement of the boundary point. Our results are based upon travelling wave solutions. We present a representation of the set of successful controls that steer the system to rest after finite time as the solution set of two point-wise equalities. This allows for a transformation of the optimal control problem to a form where no partial differential equation appears. This representation enables interesting insights into the structure of the successful controls. For example, exact bang-bang controls can only exist if the initial state is a simple function and the initial velocity is zero.

The main impedance control schemes in the task space require accurate knowledge of the kinematics and dynamics of the robotic system to be controlled. In order to eliminate this dependence and preserve the structure of this kind of algorithms, this paper presents an adaptive impedance control approach to robot manipulators with kinematic and dynamic parametric uncertainty. The proposed scheme is an inverse dynamics control law that leads to the closed-loop system having a PD structure whose equilibrium point converges asymptotically to zero according to the formal stability analysis in the Lyapunov sense. In addition, the general structure of the scheme is composed of continuous functions and includes the modeling of most of the physical phenomena present in the dynamics of the robotic system. The main feature of this control scheme is that it allows precise path tracking in both free and constrained spaces (if the robot is in contact with the environment). The proper behavior of the closed-loop system is validated using a two degree-of-freedom robotic arm. For this benchmark good results were obtained and the control objective was achieved despite neglecting non modeled dynamics, such as viscous and Coulomb friction.

Control is carried out by a moving external source. Representing the general solution of those equations in terms of the Frasca’s short time expansion, system of constraints on the distributed control is derived for both types of controllability. Due to the possibility of explicit solution provided by the heuristic method, the controllability analysis becomes straightforward. Numerical analysis confirms theoretical derivations.
