    In this paper congruences on orthomodular lattices are studied with particular regard to analogies in Boolean algebras. For this reason the lattice of p-ideals (corresponding to the congruence lattice) and the interplay between congruence classes is investigated. From the results adduced there, congruence regularity, uniformity and permutability for orthomodular lattices can be derived easily.

    It is well known that every congruence regular variety is n-permutable (in the sense of [9]) for some n ≥ 2. For the explicit proof see e.g. [2]. The connections between this n and Mal'cev type characterizations of congruence regularity were studied by G.D. Barbour and J.G. Raftery [1]. The concept of local congruence regularity was introduced in [3]. A common generalization of congruence regularity and local congruence regularity was given in [6] under the name "dual congruence regularity with respect to a unary term g". The natural problem arises what modification of n-permutability is satisfied by dually congruence regular varieties. The aim of this paper is to find out such a modification, to characterize varieties satisfying it by a Mal'cev type condition and to show connections with normally presented varieties (see e.g. [5], [8], [11]). The latter concept was introduced already by J. P≥onka under a different term; the names "normal identity" and "normal variety" were firstly used by E. Graczyńska in [8].

    We present a countable infinite chain of conditions which are essentially weaker then congruence modularity (with exception of first two). For varieties of algebras, the third of these conditions, the so called 4-submodularity, is equivalent to congruence modularity. This is not true for single algebras in general. The notion of a θ-filter of L is introduced and these filters are then characterized in terms of classes of θ.     Let S be a semiring whose additive reduct (S,+) is an inverse semigroup. The relations θ and k, induced by tr and ker (resp.), are congruences on the lattice C(S) of all congruences on S. For ρ ∈ C(S), we have introduced four congruences $ρ_{min}, ρ_{max}, ρ^{min}$ and $ρ^{max}$ on S and showed that $ρθ = [ρ_{min},ρ_{max}]$ and $ρκ = [ρ^{min},ρ^{max}]$. Different properties of ρθ and ρκ have been considered here. A congruence ρ on S is a Clifford congruence if and only if $ρ_{max}$ is a distributive lattice congruence and $ρ^{max}$ is a skew-ring congruence on S. If η (σ) is the least distributive lattice (resp. skew-ring) congruence on S then η ∩ σ is the least Clifford congruence on S.

    We deal with congruences on semilattices with section antitone involution which rise e.g., as implication reducts of Boolean algebras, MV-algebras or basic algebras and which are included among implication algebras, orthoimplication algebras etc. We characterize congruences by their kernels which coincide with semilattice filters satisfying certain natural conditions. We prove that these algebras are congruence distributive and 3-permutable.

    Opis:
    Although marital satisfaction is intensively explored in the psychological literature at present, there are few papers strictly focused on spouse fit in late adulthood. The aim of the present study was to determine whether spouses’ personality fit and values fit are associated with marital satisfaction. To test this, we examined 60 Polish married couples (120 participants) aged 60-75. We used the following measures: NEO-PI-R (as adapted by J. Siuta), Scheler Values Scale (P. Brzozowski), and the Well-Matched Marriage Questionnaire (Plopa & Rostowski). Due to the nonindependence of dyads, data was analyzed in the single-level paradigm, and the level of fit was estimated by Gower Agreement Index (J. C. Gower). The results yielded by SEM path analysis indicate that spouses’ personality fit is associated with the satisfaction of both spouses, while spouses’ values fit, under-stood objectively in accordance with Scheler’s theory, is not related to their satisfaction. The findings may be useful in psychological practice such as marriage counselling and marital therapy.

    Opis:
    Research background: Congruence of employees' personal and organizational values means that the employee both accepts and cherishes organizational values, as well as follows them in daily activities of the organization. Different forms of values in the organization are derived from three subjects (employees, managers, and the organization as a whole). From this perspective, value congruence occurs when employees' personal values match the organizational values, which are supported by the top management of the organization and are acceptable to the majority of members of the organization. Purpose of the article: To carry out verification of methodological and psychometric characteristics of the questionnaire of congruence of personal and organizational values. Methods: The survey of employees was carried out in 15 organizations, of which 11 are private and 4 belong to the public sector (N=374), and on the basis of the results of the research statistical and psychometric analysis of the data was performed. By developing the instrument of congruence of personal and organizational values, an analytical reflection method was applied. To conduct the empirical study, the mixed methods approach was employed, consistently combining qualitative and quantitative research methods, substantiating the research results with different data sources and forms. An expert assessment method was chosen for identification of validity of the constructed instrument and suitability of its content. To identify the perceived congruence of personal and organizational values, employees' personal values, the values prevailing in the organization and the climate of the organization, employees' attitudes towards work and organizational performance results, the employees' questionnaire surveys in fifteen organizations were conducted. The sample was formed employing the stratified sampling methodology. To identify the reliability of methodological and psychometric characteristics of the constructed questionnaire, factor distribution, Cronbach alpha and Spearman Brown coefficients, factor weights, resolutions of test steps were calculated and explained. Multivariate statistical methods: correlation and factor analysis, etc. were also applied. Findings & value added: The reliability and validity of the questionnaire were empirically proved and it is recommended that scholars researching values in organizations and value congruence should use the Questionnaire of Congruence of Personal and Organizational Values for Employees with the authors' consent.

    A class ℱ of universal algebras is called a formation if the following conditions are satisfied: 1) Any homomorphic image of A ∈ ℱ is in ℱ; 2) If α₁, α₂ are congruences on A and $A/α_{i} ∈ ℱ$, i = 1,2, then A/(α₁∩α₂) ∈ ℱ. We prove that any formation generated by a simple algebra with permutable congruences is minimal, and hence any formation containing a simple algebra, with permutable congruences, contains a minimum subformation. This result gives a partial answer to an open problem of Shemetkov and Skiba on formations of finite universal algebras proposed in 1989.

    A hypersubstitution of a fixed type τ maps n-ary operation symbols of the type to n-ary terms of the type. Such a mapping induces a unique mapping defined on the set of all terms of type t. The kernel of this induced mapping is called the kernel of the hypersubstitution, and it is a fully invariant congruence relation on the (absolutely free) term algebra $F_{τ}(X)$ of the considered type ([2]). If V is a variety of type τ, we consider the composition of the natural homomorphism with the mapping induced by a hypersubstitution. The kernel of this mapping is called the semantical kernel of the hypersubstitution with respect to the given variety. If the pair (s,t) of terms belongs to the semantical kernel of a hypersubstitution, then this hypersubstitution equalizes s and t with respect to the variety. Generalizing the concept of a unifier, we define a semantical hyperunifier for a pair of terms with respect to a variety. The problem of finding a semantical hyperunifier with respect to a given variety for any two terms is then called the semantical hyperunification problem.
    We prove that the semantical kernel of a hypersubstitution is a fully invariant congruence relation on the absolutely free algebra of the given type. Using this kernel, we define three relations between sets of hypersubstitutions and sets of varieties and introduce the Galois correspondences induced by these relations. Then we apply these general concepts to varieties of semigroups.

    This paper deals with research into the quality of democracy and political representation and intends to make two contributions to the debate on the representation of citizens’ preferences in Eastern Europe. First, attention is focused on the level of congruence in a period of transition (1998–2001) in two countries: Hungary and Poland. The intent is to demonstrate that political representation, understood as a congruence of preferences on issues, is present in transitional democracies and improves in Poland from 1997 to 2001. Second, differences in congruence are accounted for. The first hypothesis is that citizens’ and parliamentarians’ rankings of the importance of issues will differ due to the different reasons these groups become involved in politics. Secondly, the variation of congruence is explained by the importance (salience) citizens attribute to an issue. Furthermore, saliency makes political parties crowd to represent the majority preference. On less salient issues political party representatives hold to their ideological preferences. For comparison purposes congruence is operationalized as a ‘one to many linkage’ and is measured in accord with the measurements of Kitschelt et al. (1999) of absolute and relative representation. The hypotheses are tested using data from 1997 and 2001 for Poland and 1998 for Hungary. The data allows for measuring policy preference on a range of issues in economic, social, cultural, and foreign policy domains. The measures of congruence are unique in recording the preferences of a sample of citizens and a sample of representatives in both countries. For citizens, the analysis was conducted at the level of individuals and party-supporter groups, while for the MPs, it was conducted at the level of political party groups. The findings have implications for the study of how saliency affects political representation and contribute to the understanding of the transition to democracy in Eastern Europe.

    Change of the verb polarity or predicate deleted? Some French verbs, such as sortir, s’enfuir, s’éloigner, can be built with a preposition of polarity different from that of the verb: sortir dans, s’enfuir dans, s’éloigner vers. It is possible to consider these structures as the witness of deletion of a second verbal predicate: X sort (de la maison et entre) dans la rue, X s’éloigne (d’un endroit et s’approche) vers Y. We can see the same deletion in case of pluripolar verbs, which can be constructed with two prepositions (eg tomber).

The variety V is called balanced if every ∈ V is balanced. In this paper, balanced varieties are characterized by a Mal'cev condition (Theorem 3). Furthermore, some special results are given for varieties of bounded lattices.

    In this paper, the notions of tense operators and tense filters in \(BL\)-algebras are introduced and several characterizations of them are obtained. Also, the relation among tense \(BL\)-algebras, tense \(MV\)-algebras and tense Boolean algebras are investigated. Moreover, it is shown that the set of all tense filters of a \(BL\)-algebra is complete sublattice of \(F(L)\) of all filters of \(BL\)-algebra \(L\). Also, maximal tense filters and simple tense \(BL\)-algebras and the relation between them are studied. Finally, the notions of tense congruence relations in tense \(BL\)-algebras and strict tense \(BL\)-algebras are introduced and an one-to-one correspondence between tense filters and tense congruences relations induced by tense filters are provided.

    We introduce the concepts of pre-implication algebra and implication algebra based on orthosemilattices which generalize the concepts of implication algebra, orthoimplication algebra defined by J.C. Abbott [2] and orthomodular implication algebra introduced by the author with his collaborators. For our algebras we get new axiom systems compatible with that of an implication algebra. This unified approach enables us to compare the mentioned algebras and apply a unified treatment of congruence properties.

    Purpose: This study aims to investigate whether controversial TV content impacts the effects of non – standard advertising such as sponsorship vignette among female viewers. Methodology: The present study used two field experiments (n = 222; n = 219) conducted as a Computer-Assisted Web Interview (CAWI) questionnaire, during which video material was presented. The study manipulated controversial and non-controversial and the variable of congruence and incongruence – through the argument of video material in the form of TV programs and advertising spots. Results: The empirical investigation revealed that controversial and incongruent content does not necessarily alter the effect of a sponsorship vignette. Loyal viewers who consistently follow programs were found to have higher purchase intent than less loyal ones. Implications: The results suggest that advertisers should consider placing their messages in the context of controversial TV programming, which does not have to be congruent with the ads displayed. Limitations: The stimuli applied in the studies were arbitrary, to a certain extent. The study did not investigate program’s about sex that fit the definition of controversiality. Originality/value: The study contributes to the existing literature on ad–content congruence by investigating consumer responses to innovative ad format: the sponsorship vignette. We investigated how specific content watched in longer periods of time (i.e. a series) may impact the advertising effectiveness of embedded sponsorship vignettes. This approach allowed us to demonstrate the importance of viewers’ loyalty towards a TV program, resulting in a change of the level of purchase intent of advertised product.

    In this paper we explore the connections between fuzzy congruence relations, fuzzy ideals and homomorphisms of hyperlattices. Indeed, we introduce the concept of fuzzy quotient set of hyperlattices as it was done in the case of rings [19]. We prove that a fuzzy congruence induces a fuzzy ideal of the fuzzy quotient hyperlattice. In particular, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for a zero-fuzzy congruence class to be a fuzzy ideal of a hyperlattice.

    It is known that congruence lattices of pseudocomplemented semilattices are pseudocomplemented [4]. Many interesting properties of congruences on pseudocomplemented semilattices were described by Sankappanavar in [4], [5], [6]. Except for other results he described congruence distributive pseudocomplemented semilattices [6] and he characterized pseudocomplemented semilattices whose congruence lattices are Stone, i.e. belong to the variety B₁ [5].
    In this paper we give a partial solution to a more general question: Under what condition on a pseudocomplemented semilattice its congruence lattice is element of the variety Bₙ (n ≥ 2)?
    In the last section we widen the Sankappanavar's result to obtain the description of pseudocomplemented semilattices with relative Stone congruence lattices. A partial solution of the description of pseudocomplemented semilattices with relative (Lₙ)-congruence lattices (n ≥ 2) is also given.

    This article attempts to analyze the importance of personality factors in voting decisions. For the analysis there was used the concept of the “big five” – five personality traits: extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness. The study indicates that personality similarity between politicians and their constituents may be a  factor in electoral support.
    W  artykule podjęto próbę analizy znaczenia czynników osobowościowych przy podejmowaniu decyzji wyborczych, do której wykorzystano koncepcję „wielkiej piątki”, czyli pięciu cech osobowości: ekstrawersji, ugodowości, sumienności, otwartości i  neurotyczności. Przeprowadzone badania wskazują, że podobieństwo osobowościowe między politykami i  ich wyborcami może być czynnikiem poparcia wyborczego.

    Much attention has been directed towards explaining and overcoming the low representation of women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) fields. In this study, we aimed to test gender differences among men and women on the STEM track: female and male students enrolled in STEM majors. We found that women (versus men) feel less competent in STEM, value work in STEM less, and have a lower expectancy of succeeding in STEM. When it comes to career goals, women were equally agentic but more communal. We failed to find any gender differences regarding a sense of belonging to STEM, or in general behavioral intentions to engage in STEM. To conclude, although we replicated some of the hypothesis about gender differences, we found preliminary evidence that there may be indeed fewer gender differences among those already engaged in STEM than we might have expected based on the previous research.
    Obecnie dużo uwagi w literaturze tematu poświęca się na szukanie wyjaśnienia niskiej reprezentacji kobiet w naukach ścisłych i zawodach technicznych. W niniejszym badaniu podjęto próbę określenia różnic między kobietami i mężczyznami, którzy już podjęli ten kierunek specjalizacji (studenci i studentki uczelni technicznej). Wykazano, że kobiety czują się mniej kompetentne niż mężczyźni, przypisują mniejszą wartość pracy w naukach ścisłych oraz mają mniejsze oczekiwanie sukcesu w tej dziedzinie. Jeśli chodzi o cele zawodowe, kobiety i mężczyźni nie różnią się pod względem celów sprawczych, natomiast kobiety wyżej cenią cele wspólnotowe. Nie stwierdzono różnic płciowych w zakresie poczucia przynależności do dziedziny nauk ścisłych. Podsumowując, udało się zreplikować część hipotez dotyczących różnic międzypłciowych w zakresie udziału kobiet i mężczyzn w naukach ścisłych. Jednak, wydaje się, że wśród osób, które już wybrały tą ścieżkę kariery, różnic tych może być mniej niż sądzono.

    The article proposes a methodological framework of psycholexical studies, derived from personality theory, as a reliable base for the extraction of universal dimensions of self-image congruence. The aim of our study was to explore the psycholexical structure of a lexicon of comparisons made by Polish consumers of goods when comparing themselves to typical brand users of particular goods. The consumer lexicon was compiled as a result of 586 individual interviews with respondents aged 13 to 82 (M = 36,6; SD = 16,9), 51.8% of whom were females. The study involved 294 brands representing 29 categories of goods. The lexicon of 17,075 attributes of typical brand users was classified by 13 judges according to the classification system adopted from German lexical studies. Judicial decisions underwent psychometric verification in the aspect of their validity and internal reliability; they were found satisfactory. The results of judicial classifications were demonstrated in the aspect of desirable, similar, and undesirable attributes in the consumers’ self-concept, and discussed with reference to the structure of a person-descriptive lexicon in the Polish language. The results showed that consumers observe both positive and negative attributes in typical brand users and over a half of all the attributes of consumers are personality descriptors. The study allowed us to extract a high-frequency list of consumer descriptors that can be applied in quantitative self-image congruence research.

    This paper concerns two notions of rank of fuzzy matrices: maximal column rank and column rank. We investigate the difference of them. We also characterize the linear operators which preserve the maximal column rank of fuzzy matrices. That is, a linear operator T preserves maximal column rank if and only if it has the form T(X) = UXV with some invertible fuzzy matrices U and V.

    The scientific article discusses bicameralism in Slovenia using a three-dimensional approach. The main objective is to identify whether Slovenian bicameralism is weak or strong, using the criteria of symmetry, congruence, and perceived legitimacy. To achieve this, the authors use the descriptive and analytical method. In their opinion, Slovenian bicameralism has always been categorized as weak based only on its formal powers in the legislative procedure. Therefore, all proposed changes related to the National Council aim to change its formal powers without taking into account the congruence and perceived legitimacy criteria. The authors provide a unique insight into the other two criteria and suggest that calls for reform of the National Council should primarily deal with the congruence and perceived legitimacy criteria. The novelty of the research lies in the fact that no scientific papers have dealt with bicameralism in Slovenia using a three-dimensional approach. The authors believe that the article has cognitive value in times of constant calls for reform of the National Council.
    W artykule omówiono system dwuizbowy w Słowenii z wykorzystaniem podejścia trójwymiarowego. Głównym celem jest ustalenie, czy słoweńska dwuizbowość ma charakter słaby czy mocny, z zastosowaniem kryteriów symetryczności, przystawalności i postrzeganej legitymacji. Aby to osiągnąć, autorzy stosują metodę opisową i analityczną. Ich zdaniem system dwuizbowy w Słowenii zawsze był określany jako słaby jedynie w oparciu o formalne uprawnienia w procedurze ustawodawczej. Dlatego też wszelkie proponowane zmiany dotyczące Rady Państwa nakierowane są na zmianę jej uprawnień formalnych bez uwzględniania kryteriów przystawalności i postrzeganej legitymacji. Autorzy proponują wyjątkowe spojrzenie na dwa pozostałe kryteria i sugerują, by wezwania do reformy Rady Państwa skupiały się na kryteriach przystawalności i postrzeganej legitymacji. Innowacyjność badania polega na tym, że dotąd brak było artykułów opisujących bikameralizm w Słowenii z perspektywy podejścia trójwymiarowego. Autorzy są przekonani co do poznawczej wartości artykułu w czasach ciągłych wezwań do reformy słoweńskiej Rady Państwa.

    The aim of this paper is to discuss the motivation for a new general algebraic semantics for deductive systems, to introduce it, and to present an outline of its main features. Some tools from the theory of abstract logics are also introduced, and two classifications of deductive systems are analysed: one is based on the behaviour of the Leibniz congruence (the maximum congruence of a logical matrix) and the other on the behaviour of the Frege operator (which associates to every theory the interderivability relation modulo the theory). For protoalgebraic deductive systems the class of algebras associated in general turns out to be the class of algebra reducts of reduced matrices, which is the algebraic counterpart usually considered for this large class of deductive systems; but in the general case the new class of algebras shows a better behaviour.

    We describe here a special subdirect decomposition of algebras with modular congruence lattice. Such a decomposition (called a star-decomposition) is based on the properties of the congruence lattices of algebras. We consider four properties of lattices: atomic, atomless, locally uniform and anti-uniform. In effect, we describe a star-decomposition of a given algebra with modular congruence lattice into two or three parts associated to these properties.

    There are very strong parallels between the properties of Mal'tsev and Jónsson-Tarski algebras, for example in the good behaviour of centrality and in the factorization of direct products. Moreover, the two classes between them include the majority of algebras that actually arise 'in nature'. As a contribution to the research programme building a unified theory capable of covering the two classes, along with other instances of good centrality and factorization, the paper presents a common framework for the characterisation of Mal'tsev and Jónsson-Tarski algebras. Mal'tsev algebras are characterized by simplicial identities in the product complex of an algebra. In the dual of a pointed variety, a simplicial object known as the pointed complex is then constructed. The basic simplicial Mal'tsev identity in the pointed complex characterises Jónsson-Tarski algebras. Higher-dimensional simplicial Mal'tsev identities in the pointed complex are characteristic of a class of algebras lying properly between Goldie and Jónsson-Tarski algebras.

    We introduce a notion of dimension of an algebraic lattice and, treating such a lattice as the congruence lattice of an algebra, we introduce the dimension of an algebra, too. We define a star-product as a special kind of subdirect product. We obtain the star-decomposition of algebras into one-dimensional factors, which generalizes the known decomposition theorems e.g. for Abelian groups, linear spaces, Boolean algebras.

    Certain ring-like structures, so-called orthorings, are introduced which are in a natural one-to-one correspondence with lattices with 0 every principal ideal of which is an ortholattice. This correspondence generalizes the well-known bijection between Boolean rings and Boolean algebras. It turns out that orthorings have nice congruence and ideal properties.

    This paper describes the part of results of research into family communications. Our two years’ investigation was targeted at communication between parents and children. The focus was on so called “Satir Models” of self-preservation positions taken by parents in family communications most frequently. The data come from authentic recordings of common communications in families related to specific situations (for example, children getting ready for a day at school, during art and craft activities, sitting at the table, etc.). Our aim is to describe and analyse concrete examples of family communications used by parents in the child directed speech to fulfil the self-preservation strategies.
    W artykule opisano wyniki badań w dziedzinie komunikacji rodzinnej. Dwuletnie badania ukierunkowane były na komunikację między rodzicami i dziećmi. Skupiono się na tak zwanych „modelach” Satir – ukazujących postawy samozachowawcze, najczęściej podejmowane przez rodziców w przekazach rodzinnych. Dane pochodzą z autentycznych nagrań wspólnej, rodzinnej komunikacji, zaistniałej w konkretnych sytuacjach (na przykład dzieci przygotowujące się do szkoły, podczas uprawiania sztuki i rzemiosła, siedzące przy stole itp). Naszym celem było opisanie i analiza – w kontekście realizacji strategii samozachowawczych – konkretnych przykładów w zakresie komunikacji rodzinnej, stosowanej przez rodziców w relacji z dzieckiem.

    Classical probability theory has been widely used in reliability analysis; however, it is hard to handle when the system is lack of` adequate and sufficient data. Nowadays, alternative approaches such as possibility theory and fuzzy set theory have also been proposed to analyze vagueness and epistemic uncertainty regarding reliability aspects of complex and large systems. The model presented in this paper is based upon possibility theory and multistate assumption. Convex sublattice is addressed on congruence relation regarding the complete lattice of structure functions. The relations between the equivalence classes on the congruence relation and the set of all structure functions are established. Furthermore, important reliability bounds can be derived under the notion of convex sublattice. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the results.
    Klasyczna teoria prawdopodobieństwa ma szerokie zastosowanie w analizie niezawodności, jednak trudno jest się nią posługiwać, kiedy brak jest wystarczających i odpowiednich danych na temat systemu. Obecnie, proponuje się alternatywne podejścia, takie jak teoria możliwości czy teoria zbiorów rozmytych, za pomocą których można analizować niepewność epistemiczną oraz nieostrość w odniesieniu do aspektów niezawodności złożonych i dużych systemów. Model przedstawiony w niniejszym artykule oparto na teorii możliwości oraz na założeniu wielostanowości. Podkratę wklęsłą opisano na relacji kongruencji, odnoszącej się do całej kraty funkcji struktury. Ustalono relacje pomiędzy klasami równoważności na relacji kongruencji a zbiorem wszystkich funkcji struktury. Ponadto posługując się pojęciem podkraty wypukłej można wyprowadzać istotne kresy niezawodności. Wyniki zilustrowano przykładem numerycznym.

    In this paper, a three-dimensional (3-D) wavelength/time/space code is developed for optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) networks with direct detection technique in the receiver side. The 3-D codes are developed by mixing two-dimensional modified quadratic congruence (MQC) code and one-dimensional prime hop code (PHC) code. The encoders and decoders are constructed using fiber Bragg gratings and delay lines to minimize the bit error rate (BER). The performance analysis of the 3-D OCDMA system is based on measurement of signal to noise ratio (SNR), BER, received power and eye diagram for different numbers of simultaneous users. Also, in the analysis, various types of noises and multiple access interference (MAI) effects are considered. The received optical power is also measured at various levels of BER to analyze the effect of attenuation.
