Opis:: In statistical quality control objects are alternatively rated. It is of interest to estimate a fraction of negatively rated objects. One of such applications is a quality control provided by Supreme Chamber of Control (NIK) to find out a percentage of abnormalities in the work among others of tax offices. Mathematical details of experimental designs for alternatively rated phenomena are given in Karliński (2003). Zieliński (2010b) investigated statistical properties of those experimental designs. In the paper, the application of the shortest confidence intervals for fraction in experimental designs is shown. Those intervals were proposed by Zieliński (2010a).

In the paper three confidence intervals are compared: exact based on hypergeometric distribution and two other based on approximations to hypergeometric distribution: Binomial and Normal. It appeared that Binomial based confidence interval is too conservative while the Normal based one does not keep the prescribed confidence level.

Opis:: Zieliński (2009) constructed a nonparametric interval for At-Risk-of-Poverty-Rate. It appeared that the confidence level of the interval depends on the underlying distribution of the income. For some distributions (e.g. lognormal, gamma, Pareto) the confidence level may be smaller than the nominal one. The question is, what is the largest deviance from the nominal level? In the paper, a more general problem is considered, i.e. the problem of robustness of the confidence level of the confidence interval for binomial probability. The worst distribution is derived as well as the smallest true confidence level is calculated. Some asymptotic remarks (sample size tends to infinity) are also given.

Opis:: We consider the problem of interval estimation of the odds ratio. An asymptotic confidence interval is widely applied in economics, medicine, sociology, etc. Unfortunately, this confidence interval has a poor coverage probability, significantly smaller than the nominal confidence level. In this paper, a new confidence interval is proposed. Its construction requires only information on the sizes of samples and the sample odds ratio. The coverage probability of the proposed confidence interval is at least the nominal confidence level.

Opis:: We consider statistical analysis of multiple answers in a questionnaire. We propose a new method of calculating simultaneous confidence regions. In a communication presented at the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology the authors (Borowicz et al. (2009)) reported the proportions of respondents which gave one of three possible exclusive answers in a questionnaire concerning the role of voluntary health insurance. There were three possible answers. Apart from percentages of answers confidence intervals of every single answer have been reported. Unfortunately inference about the population based on such intervals may lead to imprecise conclusions. The inference about the respective population suffering from allergy and asthma proportions requires the construction of two-dimensional confidence region. We propose the use of a simultaneous confidence intervals to inference about true population proportions. Most of our attention is given to the case of three possible answers but the results may be generalized to any questionnaire with more than two excluding answers.

Opis:: This paper studies the methods and guidelines in minimum sample size determination provided by JEDEC/ FSA joint publication and points out their drawbacks, inconsistency, and misguidance. We provide an exact method and easy-to-use numerical solution by extending JEDEC's formula to any allowed failure number, target defect density, and confi dence level. Important guidelines are also provided for reliability practitioners to reduce possible errors resulting from imperfect sampling procedures and to avoid mistakes in defect density evaluation against a target defect density (D0). Our proposed method can be applied to any reliability tests with the binomial distribution to determine a minimum sample size to save wafers and testing resources.
Niniejsza praca analizuje metody i wytyczne dotyczące wyznaczania minimalnego rozmiaru próbki podane we wspólnej publikacji JEDEC/ FSA, wskazując na ich wady, niekonsekwencje i błędne wskazówki. W artykule podajemy dokładne i łatwe w użyciu rozwiązanie, które rozciąga wzór JEDEC na wszelką dozwoloną liczbę uszkodzeń, dopuszczalną gęstość defektów i poziom ufności. Przedstawiamy również ważne wytyczne dla specjalistów w zakresie niezawodności pozwalające zredukować możliwe błędy wynikające z niedoskonałych procedur próbkowania oraz uniknąć pomyłek w ocenie gęstości defektów względem dopuszczalnej gęstości defektów (D0). Proponowana przez nas metoda może być stosowana we wszelkich testach niezawodnościowych z rozkładem dwumianowym do wyznaczania minimalnego rozmiaru próbki przy oszczędnym użyciu płytek i środków badawczych.

W ich efekcie zasugerowano konkretne działania, które przedsiębiorstwa powinny podejmować, aby być bardziej wyrazistymi, przewidywalnymi i godnymi zaufania
Growing competition and increasing requirements of stakeholders to businesses raise the need for professional development of their relationship with the business environment and society. Image creation, building credibility and reputation of the company becomes important, if not the most important of corporate goals, next to its financial viability, competitive advantage, market value increase. A positive image often determines the feasibility of other goals in companies. The paper elaborates on the meaning, structure, impact, evolution and the relationship between the image and reputation of the company, based on the literature on the subject. In conclusion there is a suggestion of specific actions that companies should take to be more expressive, predictable and reliable for customers and other market players.
Растущая конкуренция и ужесточающиеся требования стейкхолдеров к предприятию вызывают необходимость профессионального формирования их связей с деловым и общественным окружением. Создание имиджа, формирование достоверности и репутации предприятия становится, паряду с вопросами его финансовой эффективности, завоевания конкурентного преимущества и увеличения рыночной стоимости столь же важной, если не важнейшей целью. Важнейшей, так как часто обусловливающей возможность реализации остальных. В настоящей статье, опираясь на специализированную литературу в этой области, авторка ведет рассуждения, касающиеся понятия, структуры, значения, эволюции и взаимосвязей между имиджем и репутацией предприятия. В их результате рекомендуются конкретные действия, которые предприятия должны предпринимать, чтобы быть более выразительными, предсказуемыми и достойными доверия.

Opis:: The stereological inverse problem of unfolding the distribution of spheres radii from measured planar sections radii, known as the Wicksell’s corpuscle problem, is considered. The construction of uniform confidence bands based on the smoothed bootstrap in the Wicksell’s problem is presented. Theoretical results on the consistency of the proposed bootstrap procedure are given, where the consistency of the bands means that the coverage probability converges to the nominal level. The finite-sample performance of the proposed method is studied via Monte Carlo simulations and compared with the asymptotic (non-bootstrap) solution described in literature.

Opis:: Recenzowany skrypt dotyczy spraw które w podręcznikach rzadko są poruszane, takich jak zasadnicza rola hipotezy alternatywnej w problemie testowania hipotez czy też kwestia oceny dokładności estymatorów punktowych za pomocą przedziałów ufności. Choć można się spierać o to czy te zagadnienia nie są omawiane w innych podręcznikach, z całą pewnością należy się zgodzić z autorem w innej kwestii. Tym co odróżnia recenzowany skrypt od wielu innych podręczników, jest sposób przedstawiania najważniejszych idei statystyki matematycznej. Nie chcąc komplikować wykładu, bardziej złożonymi modelami, autor opisał te idee na przykładzie bardzo prostego modelu statystycznego.
The lecture notes under review concerns matters which in these kind of books are rarely discussed, such as the central role of alternative hypothesis in the problem of hypothesis testing or the issue of assessing the accuracy of point estimates using confidence interval. While one can argue about whether these issues are not discussed in other books, it certainly must agree with the author in a different matter. What distinguishes the script-reviewed many other books, is a way of presenting the main ideas of mathematical statistics. Not wanting to complicate the lecture by more complex models, author described these ideas as an example a very simple statistical model.

Opis:: Navigational charts are essential tools for marine navigation. But how accurate are the navigational charts that we use when going sailing? Do we really know how much faith can be placed in them? All charts, whether paper or electronic, contain data, which varies in quality due to the age and accuracy of individual surveys. In general, remote areas away from shipping routes tend to be less well surveyed, and less frequently, while areas of high commercial traffic are re-surveyed frequently to very high levels of accuracy, particularly where under-keel clearances are small. It is quite accurate to consider a chart as a jigsaw of individual surveys pieced together to form a single image. Having the necessary skills to determine how much confidence should be placed in the surveys, which combine to form a chart, should be a requirement for any sailor venturing into unfamiliar waters. When the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) developed the S-57 standard for Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs), this problem was recognized and it was decided that the quality of survey data used to compile ENCs had to be encoded within a composite data quality indicator ‘Category of Zone of Confidence’ (CATZOC) to assist seafarers in assessing hydrographic survey data and the associated level of risk of navigating in a particular area. According to IHO S-67, the accuracy of Electronic Navigational Charts is not impressive and leaves much to be desired. The author discusses these apparent shortcomings of ENCs and present erroneous approaches to this problem, so common in the seafaring community.

Opis:: Navigational charts are a basic source of information for seafarers. But how accurate and reliable are they? How much trust and confidence can be put in them? Unfortunately, the answer is not so simple; it is far more complicated than merely saying that one chart is accurate and reliable while another is not. However, any seafarer navigating in unfamiliar waters should have the necessary skills. It is a great challenge – some may say an impossibility – to keep the thousands of navigational charts up to date. But exactly how out of date, how inaccurate, are the chart data? Chart users will have a better idea now that the Hydrographic Office is gradually implementing a new chart feature called the Zone of Confidence (ZOC) box which replaces the Source Diagram that is currently in use on large-scale charts. Source Diagrams, and now the improved ZOCs, assist seafarers in assessing hydrographic survey data and the associated levels of risk of navigating in a particular area. According to the new edition of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) specifications, S-4 navigational charts will provide more information on ZOCs. The current paper discusses these new regulations.
