Introduction. Magnesium (Mg) plays a crucial role in cell physiology and its deficiency may cause many disorders which often require intensive treatment. The aim of this study was to analyse some factors affecting preoperative plasma Mg concentration in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Materials and method. Adult patients scheduled for elective CABG with cardio-pulmonary bypass (CPB) under general anaesthesia were studied. Plasma Mg concentration was analysed before surgery in accordance with age, domicile, profession, tobacco smoking and preoperative Mg supplementation. Blood samples were obtained from the radial artery just before the administration of anaesthesia. Results. 150 patients were studied. Mean preoperative plasma Mg concentration was 0.93 ± 0.17 mmol/L; mean concentration in patients – 1.02 ± 0.16; preoperative Mg supplementation was significantly higher than in patients without such supplementation. Moreover, intellectual workers supplemented Mg more frequently and had higher plasma Mg concentration than physical workers. Plasma Mg concentration decreases in elderly patients. Patients living in cities, on average, had the highest plasma Mg concentration. Smokers had significantly lower plasma Mg concentration than non smokers. Conclusions. 1. Preoperative magnesium supplementation increases its plasma concentration. 2. Intellectual workers frequently supplement magnesium. 3. Smoking cigarettes decreases plasma magnesium concentration.

This article aims to examine and make recommendations to the initial assessment procedures in Adult Education context in the United Kingdom. Teachers and learners are constantly making opinions about their development, and formative assessment is one of the tools used to recognise it. In Adult Education, in addition to formative assessment, learners are expected to undergo initial assessment, testing their level of knowledge/abilities in Language, Literacy or Numeracy. Within the Adult Education context, there are several initial assessment methods available. However, it is the providers who decide which methods are most appropriate for their learners, as different methods may be appropriate in different areas. This research project focuses on an Adult Education provider based in the Midlands, United Kingdom, and offers findings that test and sometimes refute the current theory about initial assessment. Two research methods were employed to achieve the aim and objectives. Firstly, secondary data was researched. Secondly, the qualitative primary data was collected using in-depth focus groups. The research included both practitioners and learners who either conducted or experienced needs analysis processes in the adult learning context. The findings and recommendations of this article propose the use of a more ethical and reliable way of conducting initial assessment in the Adult and Community Learning context.

Upbringing is a task of both school education and catechesis. The purpose of this article is to answer the following questions: do the general aims of school education in Poland go hand in hand with the tasks of catechesis? To what extent it is possible to educate for community life (cf. GDC 86) at school religion classes in Poland? In order to find answers to these questions it is necessary to present the aims of general education in Poland according to the new core curriculum (based on the Regulation by the Minister of National Education of 23 December 2008 on Core Curricula for Pre-school and General Education in particular types of schools) along with methods for entering its records into school curricula.The general aims of upbringing, that the documents of the Church put before religious instruction at school are shown against this background, in order to find points of contact with the school curricula. The possible implementation of education for community life in the school environment is discussed on the base of the Core Curriculum for the Catechesis of the Catholic Church in Poland (approved by the Polish Bishops’ Conference in 2010).In conclusion it can be stated that the aims of both religion education at school and general education in Poland, in relation to education for community life, are similar: creation and strengthening of local communities, rooting students in natural communities, such as the family and the nation, creating a climate for dialogue between representatives of different cultures and beliefs. All these aims are focused on development of attitudes necessary for the sustainability of the community of the state. Furthermore, education for community life as the task of catechesis goes beyond the scope of school education. It calls for completion in extracurricular activities, to bring pupils to the Eucharistic community and active participation in the life and activities of the Church.

This text describes strategies and initiatives of the United Nations which on global field operate in order to support the sustainable development of local communities and community development work and their relation to global issues in the context of education.
Rozwój społeczności na całym świecie stoi przed niepowtarzalną sytuacją, którą polega unifikacji polityk społeczno-gospodarczych i strategii długoterminowych, ale także z drugiej strony ruchów i inicjatyw mających na celu promowanie różnorodności społeczności. Wzmacnianie zrównoważonego rozwoju rdzennych społeczności jest nieuchronnie związane ze społeczno-edukacyjną specyfiką regionalną, która być może być rozszerzona i wspierana zarówno na poziomie krajowym jak i międzynarodowym. W naszym zglobalizowanym świecie, w którym kwestie takie jak wojna, konflikty międzykulturowe, zagrożenia gospodarcze i społeczne lub środowiskowe są codziennie odczuwalne, należy przedefiniować ogólną koncepcję różnorodności kulturowej i jej powiązanie z życiem wspólnotowym. Tekst zawiera opis strategii i inicjatyw Organizacji Narodów Zjednoczonych, które na polu globalnym realizowane są w celu wspierania zrównoważonego rozwoju społeczności lokalnych i działań na rzecz rozwoju społeczności i ich stosunku do problemów globalnych w kontekście edukacji.

The text discusses the context and background for development of public-private partnership in the education sector. This development is based in the concept of New Public Management (New Governance) widespreaded in the policy and practice of governments since 1980 s. The article discuses an example of involvement of non-public actors in providing education: The Private Financial Initiative (PFI). PFI has become the predominant model for building and operating of new schools in the United Kingdom. The British experiences have been employed by other countries as the number and volume of educational investments conducted in the PPP formula is steadily growing. This process has been illustrated by the relevant European Investment Bank data. The text also features the Polish approach to contracting out public education services i.e. when local authorities entrusts the operation of public school to a private entity. This concept corresponds with the idea of community schools where local communities become authentic owners of the school itself and its assets.

Social gerontologists have paid attention to inclusion and diversity, but only rarely has that lens been applied within education. This is surprising as lifelong learning practice has a long tradition of addressing inequalities and confronting exclusion. Diversity projects have often not included ageing. This paper considers the impact of women’s, and particularly lesbian, lives in the UK in the aftermath of recent changes to retirement and state pension ages and considers lessons for educators. In the field of education and ageing, we sometimes write as though women’s stories are unimportant. Recent projects and research about older women are complemented by analysis of literature in gerontology and education. Examples of later life learning are considered in the light of inclusion and diversity and show how life-story exemplifies the culture of women’s learning. The importance of biography in feminism can be applied to work on the theme of later life ‘transitions’. These transition points are interpreted differently by women and men and used to create a narrative of life-course, important in determining later life learning. Evidence is taken from small scale research with a peer group of lesbians, considering the impact of working longer. The paper seeks conclusions to inform educational practice in supporting women into the new expectations of later life learning, working, earning and living in our multicultural and ageing society.
Gerontolodzy społeczni zwracają przede wszystkim uwagę na włączanie i różnorodność osób starszych, ale rzadko łączą to z edukacją. Jest to zaskakujące, gdyż praktyka uczenia się przez całe życie ma długą tradycję w kontekście znoszenia nierówności i konfrontacji z wykluczeniem. Projekty, które dotyczyły nierówności, rzadko obejmowały osoby starsze. Niniejszy artykuł uwzględnia wpływ kobiet, a szczególnie lesbijek mieszkających w Wielkiej Brytanii, na zachodzące w ostatnim czasie zmiany dotyczące emerytury oraz ma na uwadze pewne rozważania dla edukatorów. Analizując obszar edukacji i starzenia się, często odnosi się wrażenie, że historie kobiet są niezauważalne. Ostatnie projekty i badania dotyczące starszych kobiet uzupełniane są analizą literatury z dziedziny gerontologii i edukacji. W świetle włączania i różnorodności, historie życia kobiet są ważnymi przykładami uczenia się w późnej dorosłości. Ważność biografii w feminizmie można wykorzystać także w kontekście rozważań nad zmianami, „przejściami” widocznymi w późnej dorosłości. Te punkty przejścia i zmiany są inaczej interpretowane przez kobiety, a inaczej przez mężczyzn. Opowiadając o swoim życiu, osoby starsze mogą wskazać na istotne aspekty, pomocne dla uczenia się w późnej dorosłości. Dowody potwierdzające powyższe stwierdzenie, przedstawione w niniejszym artykule, pochodzą z badań przeprowadzonych na małej próbie badawczej kobiet, lesbijek. W artykule przedstawiono wnioski dotyczące praktyki edukacyjnej i wspierania kobiet w obliczu nowych oczekiwań wobec uczenia się w późnej dorosłości, pracy, zarobkowania oraz w kontekście wielokulturowego i starzejącego się społeczeństwa.

Opis:

Communitarians – in a dispute with liberals – convince of a high importance ofvarious communities for a constitution of the individual personality, especially its axiological horizon. However, the communities are able to take different forms, even the very oppressive one to individuals; Andrzej Szahaj lists the conditions of so-called “good community”. Every community needs individuals who are involved in their existence and function as a group, but also who have specific attributes which are defined as virtues by the republican tradition. Certain educational activities, both closely associated with the teaching-learning process and the functioning of schools and universities as organizations, foster the formation of mentioned attributes. Primarily these educational activities are the various stimulative forms of human training such as: problem-based learning, project-based learning, team-based learning, discussion-based learning, and so forth.
Komunitaryści – w sporze z liberałami – przekonują o dużym znaczeniu różnych wspólnot dla konstytuowania osobowości jednostki, zwłaszcza jej horyzontu aksjologicznego. Wspólnoty mogą jednak przyjmować różne postaci, w szczególności mogą się stać opresyjne wobec jednostek; Andrzej Szahaj wymienił warunki tak zwanej „dobrej wspólnoty”. Każda wspólnota potrzebuje jednostek zaangażowanych w jej trwanie i funkcjonowanie, jak również posiadających określone przymioty, zwane w tradycji republikańskiej cnotami. Ich kształtowaniu sprzyjają określone działania edukacyjne, zarówno związane ściśle z procesem kształcenia, jak i z funkcjonowaniem szkół i uczelni jako organizacji. Owe działania edukacyjne to przede wszystkim różne aktywizujące formy kształcenia, jak nauczanie problemowe, metoda projektów, praca grupowa, dyskusja itp.

Global changes around the world have demanded various transformations, including in the area of higher education. The aim of academic education is no longer to prepare people to work in particular occupations, but to create the appropriate abilities which are useful in the labor market. This kind of education must embody a multi-aspect character, because it prepares people for life-long learning. Therefore, when creating a “learning society”, one should make an effort to think of axiological dimension of scientific-technical advance. One ought to take into account the human elements of education, especially ethical issues. Practice shows that human relationships bereft of a transcendent and ethical dimension, and which focus only on financial, economic goods, on profit, the market and competition, do not bring anyone happiness. Hence there is an enormous demand in the academic community for ethical reflection, thanks to which, man is not only improved in the anthropological dimension, but also in the socio-economic aspect.

A peculiar outline of the reflexive modernity is recognised on the basis the ways how individuals achieve social integration.Des pite the differentiating forms of social and cultural life, the foundation of the accomplishment of self and the society, is still „community”, which constitutes an encouragement to enter the issue of social (dis)integration, an inspiration allowing to bestow a defined sense on democracy, and socialization processes. Therefore, the need to consider the issues of communities arises, including their confirmation in education. To present a path for social integration, with the full awareness that in modern societies the „common good” ideal is being lost, one should be accompanied by indications regarding education itself. One may reduce them to how the community constituted due to and within education, ensured the integration of all entities concerned, and helped accomplish democracy.

Opis:

Community psychology concentrates on resources and potential of local communities. It also deals with the influence of community and environment on the individual’s life quality. Aim. The subject of this article is the role of the Finnish Church institution and its influence on shaping the local community. The article presents the possibilities of using and shaping the interiors of temples, depending on the period in which they were created and the function they were to perform. Methods. The authors of the article present the role of Church institution in Finland from the Middle Ages to the present day. The historical educational role of the church and its contemporary community-building function will be outlined. The authors will also present how these assumptions translate into shaping its architecture. Results and conclusion. Despite the considerable secularization of society, the Protestant church in Finland still plays a central role in the local community. The church, with its dominant and educational role in the past, became a companion of the inhabitants, providing them with spaces adapted to their needs, regardless of their age or religion. Once limited, single-space forms of temples, today with an extensive program function as local cultural centers and meeting places adapted to the needs of their users.

Najbardziej naturalnym środowiskiem istnienia osoby ludzkiej jest rodzina jako wspólnota osób połączonych stosunkiem małżeństwa i/lub rodzicielstwa. Rodzina jest uniwersalnym środowiskiem życia wszystkich generacji, każdy może odnaleźć w niej swoje miejsce. Jedną z głównych funkcji rodziny jest wychowanie, czyli wspieranie wzrastania w człowieczeństwie. Podstawową zasadą konstytuującą życie rodzinne jest wzajemna miłość, rozumiana jako dbałość o dobro wspólne i równocześnie dobro każdej osoby uczestniczącej w życiu tej grupy. Wspólnota powstaje ze względu na dobro osób i ma wartość samą w sobie jako fenomen szczególnych relacji międzyludzkich „z serca do serca”. Rodzina będąca wspólnotą osób jest jednym z najbardziej sprzyjających człowiekowi środowisk życia i wychowania. Zachodzące współcześnie przemiany życia rodzinnego (m.in. procesy indywidualizacji, detradycjonalizacji, pluralizacji) w istotny sposób zmieniają rodzinę jako wspólnotę wychowawczą. Poszukiwanie i wskazywanie takich wzorców, modeli życia rodzinnego, które w istotny sposób ułatwiają wychowanie osób wrażliwych i otwartych na drugiego człowieka i jego potrzeby wydaje się działaniem koniecznym.
The most natural environment for humans is family as a community of people connected by the relationship of marriage and/or parenthood. Family is a universal environment for all generations in which everyone can find their place. One of the primary functions of family is education, which assists one in growing in a particular society. The fundamental principle that underlies family life is mutual love, understood as care for the common good and, at the same time, the good of every person participating in the life of this group. The community is formed for the sake of the well-being of people and has a value in itself as a phenomenon of individual mutual interpersonal relationships, the ones coming “from the heart”. Family, as a community of people, is one of the most conducive environments for life and education. The contemporary changes in family life (including processes of individualisation, detraditionalisation, pluralisation) significantly change family as an educational community. Seeking and indicating such patterns, family life models, which significantly facilitate the upbringing of the people who are vulnerable and open to other people and their needs seems to be a necessary action to be undertaken.

Opis:

Over the last decade, Canada has witnessed a complete overhaul of its refugee and immigration processes, resulting in the unravelling of a longstanding history of humanitarian contributions. As migrants’ situations become increasingly precarious, and pathways for permanent residence are quickly eroded, one area of bordering that has importantly impacted migrant youth involves access to education. While there are a limited number of concessionary policies that promote some level of access at elementary and secondary levels (but none at the tertiary level), many youth remain burdened with feelings of being othered, disengaged and illegalized, throughout their educational trajectories (Uprooted Education 2016). The weight of this exclusion is exacerbated by additional factors including: fear of deportation, non-recognition of home country credentials, negative racialization, feelings of being derailed from their professional path, and other intersections of precarity and dispossession. This paper will explore the intersection of irregularization and access to Canadian education systems; it will draw attention to emerging solutions to these exclusions through community-driven, humanitarian and activist responses at all levels of education. Particular attention will be paid to the needs-based development of alternatives to education, highlighting the projects of a Toronto-based organization, the FCJ Refugee Centre. These projects are all unique in their capacity to value the diverse social locations of precarious status migrant youth as they attempt to navigate Canadian education systems.

The main research objectives were presenting experiences of virtual classroom learners in the context of being part of a community or being indifferent towards it, as well as getting to know the value of the community in view of respondents, and the attitudes of respondents to the community. The research operated within the interpretive paradigm. The respondents were twenty six students of different majors at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. All the respondents emphasized the value of being part of a community; still, the opinions were diverse with regard to individual predispositions, skills and aptitudes of the learners. The obtained results are of great significance to the educational thought and practice and in relation to the growing importance of e-learning and its popularisation.

In this report we point out the requirement of local communities for environmental education of society that results from accession of Poland to the project titled „Decade for Sustainable Development 2005-2014”. The paper includes results of the surveys carried out among students, teachers and officers of communes that reveal the role of environmental education in schools, communes and universities. The results demonstrate that environmental education should become connected with actions in aid of both natural and social local environments.
W pracy wskazano na zapotrzebowanie środowiska lokalnego na edukację środowiskową społeczeństwa, wynikające z przystąpienia Polski do udziału w projekcie Dekada Edukacji dla Zrównoważonego Rozwoju 2005-2014. Praca zawiera wyniki badań ankietowych studentów, nauczycieli i pracowników gmin wskazujące miejsce i rolę edukacji środowiskowej w szkole, gminie oraz na studiach przyrodniczych i pedagogicznych. Wyniki świadczą o konieczności zbliżenia trendów kształcenia przyrodniczego do praktycznych działań na rzecz lokalnego środowiska przyrodniczego i społecznego.

Spoglądając na problem wspólnotowości podejmuję się próby rozważenia zagadnień go konstruujących, z którymi pojawiają się wątki odnoszące się do nowoczesności i wskazania dotyczące samej edukacji, głównie jej roli w realizacji społecznej spójności i działań na rzecz rozwoju demokracji. Kwestia wspólnotowości nie pozostaje poza zasięgiem idei i wpływów społecznych, kulturowych, wymaga ciągłego rozpoznawania i rozumnego współkreowania. O jej istotności rozstrzyga niewątpliwie podejście do edukacji jako dobra wspólnego. Swoisty rys namysłu nad potrzebą osiągania wspólnotowości, jej potwierdzaniem w edukacji (za sprawą edukacji) stanowi też zachętę do wejścia w problematykę (dez)integracji społecznej, nie przypadkowo wypełnianą wątkami dotyczącymi funkcjonowania określonej wspólnoty-społeczności wiedzy.
Looking at the problem of community, I will try to consider the issues constructing it, as well as indications regarding education; mainly its role in the implementation of social cohesion and activities for the development of democracy. The issue of community does not remain beyond the reach of social and cultural influences. It requires constant recognition and rational co-creation. Its significance is undoubtedly determined by the approach to education as a common good. The peculiarity of reflection on the need to achieve community and its confirmation in education (through education) is also an incentive to enter the problem of social (dis)integration, not accidentally filled with threads referring to the meaning of a specific community – the community of knowledge.

Wielkie znaczenie ma ciągłe pogłębianie przekonania o roli skutecznego dialogu między szkołą i środowiskiem w celu wspierania rozwoju kolejnego pokolenia.
The article is focused on a valuable aspect of environmental education at school and a supportive character of local organizations in the education process. Attention is paid to the special environment of teachers and students which may suggest the opportunities and ways of training as well as support the school in accomplishing its pedagogic goals. In the thick of impacts imposed on us by our direct and indirect environment, an impotent role is played by elements which Enable an active and creative contact of contemporary humans with the environment. A continuous deepening of the conviction on the role of an effective dialogue between the school and the environment to facilitate the development of the next generation is of high importance.

In this paper the author presents the community art as an example of practices that can be perceived as the element of both cultural as well as civic education. While stressing the pragmatic approaches and practice-oriented methods of teaching and learning in the Netherlands, the author presents shortly the formal premises of both types of education. Then the practice of community art has been described and analysed. The description is based on ethnographic study conducted in one of the Dutch cities. This piece of research is pertained to the street theatre and pantomimic visual art. In her analyses, the author highlights the potential of community art to rising both the civic and cultural awareness of community art participants. The paper also aims to show that community art fulfills not only the educational but also political role in the Netherlands being perceived as rightful partner of professional arts.

The research problem described in the title of the article can be formulated as a question: by what means is the idea of the University’s social responsibility implemented at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology in its operation? We are talking here about the idea of sensu largo, because universities’ social responsibility requires an even more complete theoretical conceptualization. This idea refers to the theoretically recognized, complex, constantly changing, and multi-directional and network cooperation between the University and the heterogeneous environment. The conclusions of this submission may be a stimulus for further research on the developing concept of university social responsibility. The first part of the article is based on the analysis of the literature of the subject, while the second part examines documents.

It’s not easy to discuss,and think about the pedagogy when the nation suffers during the military conflict and invasion, which was the case of Poland during the Second World War – during such dramatic times the priority is survival. However, many years after the war, it is worth pointingout the effort and the dedication of teachers/educators who stayed with their students until the end. They remained in schools, orphanages and other educational institutions where kids could need them. Based on documents, literature and the personal experiencesof the author, the paper “Survive and save your identity” describes in a detail the activity of the Female Scouts who were the part of the RGO, an Organisation For the Youth of Warsaw in the years 1939-1945. The article manifests the importance of pedagogical and moral principles during the nations fight for survival.

Opis:

Higher education institutions in the Philippines today are pushed to intensify university-community engagement through extension activities. This is not just for accreditation purposes but more specifically to facilitate sustainable development in poor communities. However, among the fourfold functions of universities in the country (instruction, research, extension, and production), extension is the least acted upon by faculty members probably due to any or all of the following factors: a) lack of the necessary skills in community development, b) lack of time for such endeavors, or c) lack of understanding on what extension really is. In this paper, a model for designing college extension activities is proposed based on previous community engagement projects of the College of Forestry and Environmental Science of Central Mindanao University (CFES-CMU). Based on documentary evidence, interview data, and personal observations supplemented by literature review, essential features/characteristics of prior successful projects were analyzed and developed into an operational framework for designing future university facilitated community development projects for ensuring a higher probability of success. The above analysis also provided a workable definition of community extension which can assist interested faculty members in understanding the objectives of extension work.

Science is not a simple increase of knowledge, but a change in state of mind. This demands a personalized approach to the teaching/learning process, the consideration of new spaces serving to gain information and experiences, as well as making use of the dialogical nature of man to create a learning community. The child cannot be a background for teachers’ actions but an authentic real creator of his/her development. School should evolve from a socially and culturally authorised knowledge-transferring institution into an agency which will be a community of life and work. This paper focuses on selected aspects of a new culture of learning: constructive, self-regulated, situated and collaborative, that prepares the student for smooth functioning in a world marked by change.

Opis:

The aim of this paper is to analyze the vision of the Polish education system outlined by selected liberal parties in Poland in 1989–2019, focusing on the role played by local communities and local authorities. The text analyzes election programs of main liberal parties as well as speeches of prominent politicians. The qualitative analysis of relevant content revealed that Polish liberals clearly specified in their programs the importance of a local government (as a body that makes decisions which to a large extent pertain to school), parents and the entire local community (as an entity that actively co-participates in school’s life, and has influence on key decisions). The proposed school system was institutionally grounded in a local government and simultaneously acted as a cultural center as well as a place where a local community can spend their leisure time. To this aim, changes were postulated in three key areas: “municipalization” of the school institution, schools forming stronger ties to the local community, and modification of education funding system.

Opis:

In the urban space we can see less and less elements of animate and inanimate nature. The dominance of skyscrapers, office buildings, and large-scale shopping malls contributes to limiting the development of children and adults in the natural environment. Limited green areas, prevent contact with the ecosystem. The remaining few Family Allotment Gardens located for example in Warsaw, as well as the establishment of community gardens on the initiative of local residents, can be a form of creating social bonds and an ecological awareness. Through this kind of participation for environmental protection, we can educate children, youth and adults about the need to raise the level of environmental issues. The article presents qualitative research consisting of the analysis of documents concerning local initiatives disseminated in the mass media and on the websites of local, non-governmental bodies. Not every person is looking for such information, so not everyone understands the need to preserve green areas and the possibility of integration and popularization of knowledge in the field of environmental protection. The article will also present the works of The Maria Grzegorzewska University students who were to design a garden located at educational institutions. Ideas of students will be presented in the photographs. The subject matter is undoubtedly necessary to show among educators the relationship between the city – the individual – society, for example upbringing in accordance with the principles of sustainable development. Teaching about ecology at the Maria Grzegorzewska University at the department of Education for Sustainable Development may be an example combining pedagogy with ecology, as part of the APS Jubilee celebrations.

Opis:

Anthropological and sociological reflections over the city often stress its importance as a dynamic creation, that shapes the identity of its dwellers, hence it is a place of upbringing – locus educandi. It is, therefore, not ideologically-free area, and can serve as a point of departure for the reflections within the framework of pedagogy or cross-cultural education. The city is a symbolic sphere, where, as a part of the everyday life interactions, the encounter with the Other takes place. Thus, such area can make individuals familiar with the latter. At the same time the city becomes a material foundation for intercultural education, upon which (cross-cultural) social capital can be built. Such way of understating the city points to its properties as a phenomenological experience, what, in turn, makes relations with the place psychological and semantic. This paper analyzes selected theories of the city as a social and anthropological area, revealing its pedagogical potential. The latter – as exemplified by Sarajevo – can be used in various educational projects in culturally diverse communities.

In the contemporary world, communication goes far beyond the well-known traditional written or spoken forms. For today's digital users, these have become insufficient, as using them, they cannot express their thoughts fully. The youth that has developed its own language, has become more hermetic, but not because it rejects other generations. The reason is the inability of older generations to understand the new ways of communication. Seniors find it challenging to learn how to use new technologies and stay up to date with trends. Although young people are able to understand them, the older generation cannot keep up with the news and stays excluded. The lack of mutual understanding results in weaker bonds. Once again, it is possible to observe ICT as a contemporary key competence essential for an adequate, mutually comprehensible exchange of messages. The best way to connect two generations in this aspect is informal education, especially one focusing on intergenerational activities, which will not only reduce the exclusion of a social group such as seniors but will also let them to develop their critical thinking skills, which in the age of the Internet are crucial. Bringing up both generations in two different 'normalities' does not make any of them inferior but simply different. Investing in education, the desire for self-development and learning about the culture of different generations will not only open people's minds but will also have a positive impact on the development of intergenerational solidarity and mutual understanding.

Edukacja ekologiczna społeczności lokalnych stanowi niezbędny element działań na rzecz szeroko rozumianej ochrony przyrody i jest realizowana w myśl zapisów dokumentów krajowych i międzynarodowych. W Polsce, zadania z zakresu edukacji ekologicznej są w dużej mierze dofinansowywane ze środków funduszy celowych ochrony środowiska i gospodarki wodnej. System funduszy stanowią: Narodowy Fundusz Ochrony Środowiska i Gospodarki Wodnej, fundusze wojewódzkie, powiatowe i gminne. Ich dochody pochodzące z opłat i kar za korzystanie ze środowiska są przeznaczane na finansowanie projektów realizowanych przez osoby, instytucje, organizacje i przedsiębiorstwa. Projekty te to m.in. kampanie informacyjno - promocyjne, szkolenia, imprezy masowe, festiwale i konkursy o zasięgu ogólnopolskim i lokalnym. Fundusze OŚiGW biorą także udział w absorpcji środków pochodzących z budżetu Unii Europejskiej. W nowym okresie programowania funduszy unijnych 2007-2013, Polska będzie miała do dyspozycji środki pochodzące z Funduszu Spójności i funduszy strukturalnych (Europejskiego Funduszu Rozwoju Regionalnego i Europejskiego Funduszu Społecznego), które będą alokowane za pomocą 6 Programów Operacyjnych i 16 wojewódzkich Programów Regionalnych. W Programie Operacyjnym "Infrastruktura i Środowisko", zaplanowano ponad 36 mld euro na realizację zadań z zakresu ochrony środowiska, w tym także edukacji ekologicznej. W ramach Priorytetu 5 - "Ochrona przyrody i kształtowanie postaw ekologicznych, w Działaniu 5.4. przewidziano możliwości finansowania działań mających na celu zwiększenie świadomości społeczeństwa w zakresie potrzeby i właściwych metod ochrony środowiska, przyrody i krajobrazu. Aplikować o środki z Działania 5.4. mogą zarówno instytucje samorządowe, jak i branżowe oraz inne osoby prawne i fizyczne. Projekty zgłaszane przez beneficjentów powinny być związane z szeroko pojmowanym kształtowaniem zachowań proekologicznych, projekty kompleksowe edukacji ekologicznej, a w tym: projekty organizacji szkoleń, programów aktywnej edukacji z dziedziny ochrony środowiska, ochrony przyrody i różnorodności biologicznej. Działania sprecyzowane w PO "Infrastruktura i Środowisko" są komplementarne z działaniami Regionalnych Programów Operacyjnych, które będą realizowane w poszczególnych województwach.
Environmental education of local communities is a crucial element of nature conservation understood in broad term and it has been performed in line with the national and international documents. In Poland, environmental education tasks are to a large extent financed from the resources of the goal-oriented funds of environmental protection and water management. The system of funds includes: the National Fund of Environmental Protection and Water Management, voievodeship, county and municipal funds. The budgets of these funds originate from the fines and fees related to the use of the environment. The obtained resources are allocated for projects made by persons, institutions, organisations and enterprises. These projects include information and promotion campaigns, public events, festivals and national and local competitions. The resources are also used for the absorption of the EU funds. In the new 2007-2013 programming period of the EU funds, Poland will have an opportunity to benefit from the resources of the Cohesion Fund and the structural funds (European Fund of Regional Development and the European Social Fund) which will be allocated by six Operational Programmes and sixteen Regional Programmes. In the 'Infrastructure and Environment" Operational Programme, 16 billion Euro have been planned for tasks related to the environmental protection including environmental education. Within Priority 5 : "Nature conservation and developing environmentally friendly behaviour", Activity 5.4 provides opportunities for funding initiatives aimed at increasing the public awareness in the area of the needs and methods for protecting the environment, nature and landscape. Applicants for the funding under the Activity 5.4 include local government and sectoral institutions as well as other physical or legal persons. Project submitted by beneficiaries should be related to creating environmentally friendly behaviour, complex projects of environmental education including training programmes and active education programmers concerning environmental protection, nature conservation and biodiversity. Activities defined in the Operational Programme "Infrastructure and Environment" are complementary to the activities of the Regional Operational programmes implemented in individual voievodeships.

Opis:

Encounter as a philosophical category comprises a lot of various types of relations and configurations of a man with another man. In Poland in the last twenty years of the 20th century and later there developed a flourishing environment of philosophers who examined the problems of interpersonal encounter in the spirit of the synthesis of phenomenology and personalism. The Polish philosophers of encounter came to a few essential findings referring to the subject of encounter considered in the comprehensive and general way. The article attempts to apply the general philosophical issue worked out in this trend so to consider the problem in more detailed way. The essential question is: can the findings of the Polish philosophy of encounter be useful to examine the relations in the family environment for the effectiveness of fulfilling the educational function towards children by the family? The author proves that some philosophical settlements can actually be used in such a research area.
Spotkanie [encounter] jako kategoria filozoficzna obejmuje wiele różnorodnych typów relacji i konfiguracji człowieka z człowiekiem. W Polsce w ostatnich 20 latach XX wieku i później rozwijało się prężnie środowisko filozofów, wnikliwie badających problematykę spotkań międzyludzkich w duchu syntezy fenomenologii z personalizmem. Polscy filozofowie spotkania doszli do kilku znaczących odkryć i ustaleń, odnoszących się do całościowo i ogólnie ujętego tematu spotkania. Artykuł podejmuje próbę aplikacji ogólnej problematyki filozoficznej, wypracowanej w tym nurcie, do rozważenia bardziej szczegółowego problemu. Zasadnicze pytanie brzmi: czy odkrycia polskiej filozofii spotkania mogą być użyteczne w zastosowaniu do zbadania relacji w środowisku rodzinnym pod kątem efektywności wypełniania przez rodzinę funkcji wychowawczej względem dzieci. Autor dowodzi, że niektóre rozstrzygnięcia filozoficzne rzeczywiście mają zastosowanie w tak określonym obszarze badawczym.

Niniejsze opracowanie ma charakter teoretyczny i jego celem jest przedstawienie możliwości zastosowania koncepcji społeczności wokół marki budowanej na doświadczeniach będących nośnikami wartości w szkolnictwie wyższym. W artykule przedstawione są wyzwania stojące przed sektorem szkolnictwa wyższego, uzasadniające celowość podjęcia nowatorskich działań przez funkcjonujące w nim organizacje. Nakreślony jest także szerszy kontekst teoretyczny łączący społeczności konsumenckie z koncepcją gospodarki doświadczeń, według której doznania nabywców są nośnikami wartości współtworzonej we wspólnotach wokół marek.

Opis:

The ensuing article tackles the problems of closing small schools. It constitutes an attempt to reflect upon a new phenomenon, which is becoming more and more common, and it is caused by the introduction of austerity in the budgets of self-government entities liable for running educational institutions. This difficult and complicated situation means that local communities are forced to undertake essential solutions towards this new reality, which concerns mainly children and their parents. Discussion over these solutions will aim at searching for effective and economic ways of the running and functioning of small schools appropriated for liquidation. The undertaken problems seem to be justified because of approaching political and economic changes occurring at both national and local scale.

W niniejszym artykule, na przykładzie Pomorza (województwa pomorskiego i zachodniopomorskiego), zaprezentowano wybrane działania edukacyjne podejmowane przez społeczności lokalne, które wpływają na rozwój społeczno-ekonomiczny pomorskich wsi. Zobrazowano ogólny stan szkolnictwa obszaru badawczego. Uwzględniono aktywność wybranych organizacji w zakresie edukacji dzieci i młodzieży pochodzącej ze środowisk wiejskich, głównie poprzez tworzenie małych szkół i przedszkoli, a także specjalizacji wsi. Ponadto, zwrócono uwagę na kwestię wykorzystania środków unijnych w tym zakresie.
Education is all activities and processes to transferring knowledge and the shaping specific qualities and skills. In this article on example of Pomerania (Pomeranian and West Pomeranian voivodeships) are presented selected educational activities undertaken by local communities that affect the development of the Pomeranian village and create their image. There is depicted a general state education of research area. Primary and nursery schools dominate among educational institutions in rural areas so there is devoted to them most space in this paper. A kindergarten education became almost as important as the education that children receive in school nowadays. In the countryside kindergartens not only educates but also develop social skills increase educational opportunities support children’s individual learning needs and support parents. In Pomerania there are 2044 kindergartens including 45.8% in rural areas. The activity of selected organizations in the education of children and young people from rural communities was covered mainly by creating small schools and kindergartens, and specialization of the village. There is currently extremely important the acquisition of EU funds for developing a broadly defined rural education. Projects: „Little Kindergarten in Every Village”, „Little School” and the action taken by the „Kashubian Sunflowers” or the Association „Speranda” can mention among the most interesting projects implemented in the rural areas of Pomerania. Established educational institutions are the local development centers.

The question of legal education is recognised as important along various dimensions and thus has been in the focus of attention of numerous distinguished legal scholars and practitioners all over the world. The problem of legal education includes not just methodological issues, but also the issues that are par excellence philosophical in nature. Legal education has a specificity that arises from the nature of law and its complexity, and is related to the personal dimension of this education. The process of education should be organised in such a way that students should be in contact with members of the legal community whose authority, moral and subject matter-related attributes play a vital, formative role in legal education. Yet, it is revealed that such a reality is hidden below a “thick layer” of myths, which have grown around legal education. These myths blur the real picture of lawyers’ education, creating a kind of legal education mythology. Two types of systemic legal myths are indicated. The first one is built on the paradigm of university legal education. The other type is based on the paradigm of university studies.

In recent years, changes in the approach to deafness and, hence, in the education of the deaf and hard of hearing have been occurring around the world, including Poland. Deafness is increasingly perceived as a sociocultural phenomenon and not merely as a medical one, while sign language is seen as a natural language that can be used in deaf schools and by large numbers of d/Deaf people. Nevertheless, it seems at present that both deafness models are incompatible with each other for ideological reasons although they are concurrent, the medical model being dominant and the sociocultural one being alternative. For that reason, both the d/Deaf community and the deaf education still contend with significan problems related to the language policy, discrimination based on deafness (audism), sign language (linguicism), disability (ableism) or the specificityof conflictsamong the d/Deaf themselves (deafism).All this will be illustrated in this paper, along with suggested possible solutions.

Nowadays, cooperation of preschool institutions with the local environment is a permanent element of didactic, educational and caring work. Preschools find In local environment they find valuable values for education of preschool children in institutions, organizations and individuals, as well as in parents. The value of preschool education is also promoted in the community. Cooperation with the local environment bringstangible benefits in terms of children’sknowledge and skills, especially with regard to social and civic competencies. A well-functioning kinder gartenis one that acts appropriately for the environment and shows the children in it what is most valuable.

Opis:

The National Mental Health Care Program in Poland for 2017–2022 increases the role of community psychiatry in psychiatric care. This requires adequate changes in teaching curriculum for universities in Poland. The primary aim of presented study was to assess the medical students’ opinion and their state of knowledge about community psychiatry. Students of medical fields of studies (mostly medicine and nursing) and psychology (N=171) from different universities in Poland were tested. Community psychiatry was found as a valid alternative to conventional form of psychiatric care by majority of students however they were not able to define it accurately. Students also believed that the university courses should include details about community psychiatry especially in regards to its practical aspects.
Narodowy Program Ochrony Zdrowia Psychicznego na lata 2017-2022 poszerza zakres lecznictwa środowiskowego, co wymaga wprowadzenia zmian w zakresie programów edukacyjnych uczelni wyższych w Polsce dotyczących funkcjonowania oraz rozwoju działań zgodnych z modelem środowiskowym. Celem przeprowadzonego badania było uzyskanie opinii studentów kierunków medycznych na temat psychiatrii środowiskowej. W badaniu wzięło udział 171 studentów kierunków medycznych (lekarski, pielęgniarstwo itd.) i psychologii z różnych miast Polski. W opinii badanych model leczenia środowiskowego stanowi właściwą alternatywę dla tradycyjnego leczenia psychiatrycznego, choć nie wszyscy badani potrafią ten model trafnie zdefiniować oraz postulują włączenie treści związanych z opieką środowiskową w zakres kształcenia akademickiego lub poszerzenie jego obecnego zakresu, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem szkolenia praktycznego.

The aim of the article is to draw attention to the value of seniors' IT education as a factor increasing quality of their lives. Both acquiring and increasing senior's computer and above all Internet skills are significant in case of social relations. The author draws attention to the contradiction between huge technological progress, evolution of products and services and negligence of education sphere toward conscious and comfortable usage of these goods. He also underlines significance of seniors' IT education as a great challenge facing the educational system, especially in the era of the ageing society. Addition- ally, the author draws attention to the seniors' lifestyles and their need to belong to social groups which is now possible thanks to the Internet. He also points to the correlation between seniors' loneliness and the need to establish contacts online which prevent social exclusion mitigating the feeling of rejection and loneliness.

The article focuses on three areas of work with the local community. The article shows the legal and social arrangements that provide assistance and social work with people who need it. The whole article closes the author's proposal of the employment programs with the local community.

Zagadnienie pokoju jest przedmiotem badań zarówno jako element nauki, jak również jako element codziennego życia. Kształtowanie ludzkich postaw zmierzających do akceptacji pokojowego współistnienia społeczeństw i narodów jest jednym z najważniejszych celów wychowania. Zbudowanie trwałego pokoju na świecie jest samą istotą edukacji. Wychowanie dla pokoju jest długofalowym procesem budowanym na rozumieniu innych ludzi, empatii i miłości braterskiej, która prowadzi do dialogu. Takie stanowisko jest blisko wizji papieża Franciszka, który swoją koncepcję wychowania dla pokoju opiera na idei braterstwa i przyjaźni społecznej. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie intelektualnych odniesień różnych wizji i koncepcji wychowania dla pokoju. Mimo niekiedy różnic w podejściu co do istoty i drogi praktycznej realizacji pedagogiki pokoju, to wspólnym mianownikiem tych koncepcji jest dobro człowieka i dobro wspólne.
The issue of peace is being studied both as an element of scholarship and as an element of everyday life. The formation of human attitudes aimed at accepting the peaceful coexistence of societies and nations is one of the most important goals of education. Building lasting peace in the world is the very essence of education. Education for peace is a long-term process—built on understanding for others, empathy, and brotherly love—that leads to dialogue. This position is close to the vision of Pope Francis, who bases his concept of education for peace on the idea of fraternity and community friendship. The purpose of this article is to show the intellectual references of different visions and concepts of education for peace. Despite occasional differences in the approach to the essence and practical implementation of the pedagogy of peace, the common denominator of these concepts is the good of humankind and the common good.

Tylko wspólne działania szkoły, rodziny i środowiska lokalnego są w stanie wykształcić jednostkę aktywną społecznie teraz i w dorosłym życiu. Poglądy, opinie oraz potwierdzenie działań praktycznych realizowanych przez uczniów szkół podstawowych i gimnazjów, rodziców, nauczycieli i studentów w zakresie współpracy szkoły ze społecznością lokalną zbadano za pomocą kwestionariusza ankiety. Wyniki i wnioski z tych badań przedstawiono w niniejszym artykule.
Environmental education is based on the concept of developing and educating the society in the spirit of natural environment conservation. Environmental education is carried out not only at schools in the framework of formal and informal education but also at home, in media, by local authorities and a number of organisations active in the local environment Only a joint effort of the school, family and the localenvironment enables developing a member of the society who is active at present but also in the adult life. Viewpoints, opinions and confirmation of practical actions carried out by primary and secondary school pupils, parents, teachers and the students concerning the cooperation of school and the local society were studied by a questionnaire. The article presents the obtained data and the conclusions drawn based on it.Ewa Fleszar: The role of environmental subjects teacher in realizing ecological and environmental education. The role of environmental teaching specialists in realizing ecological and environmental education is significant and varied. Above all, it comes down to the help offered to teachers in running and realizing the subjects related to ecological and environmental education. It concerns the teachers who teach environmental education, biology, ecology and environment conservation. The role of teaching specialists is writing syllabuses to be realizedin the classrooms (at schools) or during field trips in direct contact with nature. Running post-graduate university courses in the subject they include the issues of ecology and environmental protection. They invite teachers of nature, biology, ecology and environment protection to Seminars, Symposiums, Conferences that deal with the subject of ecology and environment teaching.
