Opis:
XX wieku.
The author concluded that Polish media studies had its symbolic beginning in the last years of the 18th century. In the next century, the media were the subject of numerous studies conducted by representatives of the older disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. Polish media studies, going through a descriptive and cumulative period, developed its first paradigm in the 1960s. In the next decade, this paradigm began to apply not only to the media, but also to social communication. A characteristic feature of Polish research on social communication and media is their interdisciplinarity and reference to other specific disciplines, both in the field of social sciences and the humanities. The rapid development of contemporary media also causes media scholars to expand their technical competences. The multiplication of theoretical approaches forces media scholars to be interdisciplinary, and at the same time makes their research very paradigmatically diverse.

Mass media, communication research, the sixties, the seventies, the eighties, UNESCO, Free Flow of Information, New World Communication Order, Final Act of the CSCE, Montreal Conference
Opis:
This paper focuses on the particular role of the mass media research in transformation of the post-Yaltan world political system, in 1960–1990 and in particular in the seventies. The role of the inspirer, organizer and transmitter of the idea of solving social and political problems with the use of the mass media was played by the UN and UNESCO. They made communication research one of the most important and politically most infl uential disciplines among social sciences. The conference in Montreal, organized by Unesco in June 1969, has become the foundation stone for the worldwide political career of mass communication research. Very active participation of media researchers in the world discourse on communication contributed later to the adoption, by the UNESCO General Conference, in 1978, of the “Media Declaration”, and, in consequence, to the MacBride Commission and the creation of its Report, then to the “International Program for the Development of Communication” (IPDC). Communication research in the seventies contributed, arguably, to the acceptance of the compromise solutions of the 3rd basket of the Final Act of the CSCE, which opened the first legal clefts to the uncontrolled two direction flow of information in the Soviet monolith hermetic system. In this regard, one can say that Everything started in Montreal in 1969 – the paper concludes. The paper was presented on the plenary session of the International Conference “Matters of Journalism: Understanding Professional Challenges and Dilemmas”, organized by the Polish Communication Association and the University of Gdańsk, in Gdańsk 14 September, 2012.

Opis:
Between March and August 2022, the National Museum in Lublin mounted the first in Poland exhibition of the Polish painter Tamara Lempicka. The number of public who visited it reached 86,667, which made it an event of the highest turn-out in Poland. An attempt to analyse the wonder of Lempicka’s communication success, the unwavering interest in her personality and art, has been made by the Author. This effort was helped through reaching the current carriers of her brand, namely contemporary fashion designers, authors of adverts, films, or literature pieces. The Author analysed the results of the research conducted during the Exhibition, amounting to 1,544 surveys in total. The study’s purpose was to verify public’s satisfaction, locations visitors had come from, source of information on the Exhibition, efficiency of the Museum’s communication endeavours, and the public’s profile. The visitors considered the following to have been the Exhibition’s strongest points (by order of preference); exhibits, topic, layout, narrative, curator’s concept, and the design. Interestingly, when the Exhibition was open to the public and the advertising and informing campaign was being implemented, the administrators of social media observed a significant increase in the number of visitors, The Facebook profile witnessed the increase by 54.8 per cent versus the previous five months, while the Instagram account’s visits grew by as many as 202.6 per cent. Furthermore, also the campaign promoting the event was analysed; it was not limited either to the Internet or external advertising, but was also conducted at the venue where the Exhibition was held. The power of social media was efficiently used and consciously managed by the Exhibition organizers, which substantially contributed to popularizing the project.

The paper highlights how the exhibition of design of urban rationalist spaces in Varese and Brescia called “Prospicĕre” tackled the topic starting from an idea coherently up to the results, inviting to 'look ahead'. This attitude not only as a physical action, but also as a stimulus to encourage the entrance of research on urban representation into the new channels of digital communication and networking, in order to transform architectural exhibitions into the tools for a cultural dissemination of architectural design. That is the path to join architectural heritage, communication and digital tools.

The aim of this article is to present a review of a book edited by Adam Komisarof and Zhu Hua entitled Crossing Boundaries and Weaving Intercultural Work, Life, and Scholarship in Globalizing Universities which is a collection of articles from various research disciplines and approaches to the field of intercultural studies such as cross-cultural and acculturation psychology, communication, sociology, cultural anthropology, applied linguistics, language teaching, and multilingualism studies. The editors point out that auto-ethnography is the method employed for the purposes of the volume, as it is both researcher- and reader-friendly and allows the connection of personal experiences to broader socio-cultural contexts. As the editors promise, the book provides the reader with a variety of perspectives on intercultural communication and gives an overview of how intercultural academics combine their work, life, and scholarship, and how they juggle between various perspectives, cultures, and languages.

Kurator, kuratela, kuracja? Bibliotekarz wśród naukowców w pięćdziesiąt lat po „lekarzu wiedzy” Władysława Piaseckiego

Opis:
Z porównań bibliotekarstwa z innymi zawodami wynika odkrywanie w nim jego nowych cech i zadań. Choć „lekarz wiedzy” był koncepcją mówiącą raczej o potrzebie prestiżu i pozycji społecznej niż o istocie zawodu bibliotekarza, idee lekarskich możliwości działania i lekarskiej odpowiedzialności za pacjenta mogą mieć coś wspólnego ze współczesną potrzebą wdrażania procesów „kuratorowanych”, to znaczy wymagających wyjątkowo wnikliwej znajomości przedmiotu i zróżnicowanych metod zarządzania. Dotyczy to wszelkich pól związanych z obiegiem informacji.
While making a comparison between librarianship and other professions one may conclude that the former has been more and more laden with new responsibilities and new priorities. Though the librarian as the “knowledge physician” was a construct that underlined the need for the prestige and social standing of the profession, rather than focused on the essence of the librarian profession, the idea of quasi medical role of the librarian and nearly doctor-like responsibility for the patient/user can have indeed something to do with today’s need for implementing the so-called “curated” processes, that is the ones that require a particularly insightful and extensive knowledge of the subject and available methods of management. And this applies to all possible areas related to the circulation of information. Within the context of two case examples of complex and complicated scientific texts and an attempt to identify how a public discussion on them can be carried out, this article attempts to identify the key points in which, without the mediation of the librarian, science can generate a string of misunderstandings, fallacies and conceptual incoherencies or become marginalised. In conclusion, the author proposes to strengthen personnel training, policy support, to create an innovative environment, and promote the development of awareness of any possible manifestations of librarian curatorship in a variety of activities that might be undertaken by librarians. Further strengthening of research and knowledge competences of librarians seems inevitable, in particular in view of the need for the development of inter-disciplinary sciences and a particular supervision needed for research conducted by multi-person research teams as well as for collectively written texts authored by a number of researchers.

Science, including the research achievements and the activities of research and development units are regarded from the point of view of marketing categories. Commercialization has led to a situation in which it is necessary to provide information and promote your products. The situation forces scientific institutions and their employees to introduce permanent changes to their relations with the recipients. The above changes refer to forms of informing about, advertising activities and achievements, as well as to the language of messages aimed at various groups of recipients. Contemporary media give many opportunities to reach the recipients interested in a particular issue. The system of communicating with them has been improved. National Research Institute of Animal Production is improving its website, which is an important source of information. This concerns both the current activity of the institute, including trainings, workshops, seminars etc. and scientific publications. However, the biggest task taken up by the Institute is the creation of an ICT platform for the exchange of knowledge about the quality and safety of animal production. Producers of farm animals, breeders, producers of fodder and scientific institutions cooperating with the National Research Institute of Animal Production are and in the future will be able to take advantase of the results of the project.
