After 1850, the middle and working classes sought cultural education, which John Ruskin, among others, identified as a signifier of civilization and national greatness. Working Men’s Colleges, three 1870 university Slade Professorships in art history, proliferating art publications, and emerging regional museums offered opportunities to become conversant with visual art were then equated with social mobility and Englishness. Amid this cultural nationalism, critic F. G. Stephens’s 100+ Athenaeum series, “The Private Collections of England” (1873–1887), transformed collectors into national heroes. Scholars have noted the rising profile of collectors in 19th-century Europe and the US, in which Stephens’s series participated. Stephens detailed these collections’ expanded geography in England’s industrial north, turning local art collecting into a national, unifying force, a transformation made possible by his periodical serialization itself. These collectors, industrialists, merchants and bankers exemplified a new middle-class social, cultural and political authority. Most of them intended to bequeath their collections philanthropically to museums, thus shaping public tastes and the canon. They were personally and socially networked with artists and with each other, often working in complementary industries. Stephens interspersed his detailed descriptions of artworks with exhibition histories across translocal and transnational spaces, using the power of the press to weave a network between collectors and the public and a shared cultural history that endorsed collectors’ new public identity. However, Stephens also raised tensions about the geography of collecting, emphasizing collectors’ local places while presenting them as shaping a national space in their homogeneous taste and support of the same living artists and even the same pictorial subjects. In this way, Stephens straddled and flattened differences between national and regional market forces when, ironically, England’s art market was be coming increasingly international. This geographical layering is explored here in the context of the rise of provincial art institutions, the period’s notion of national schools and in anticipating the features of the current geohistory of art. I will explore two devices associated with the periodical press: ekphrasis and serialization, both of which Stephens deploys. Stephens wrote long ekphrases on works in these collection and omitted illustrations, noting in several comments that the Athenaeum’s middle-class readers were already familiar with artists’ works. This presumption and his use of 19th-century serialization, used by novelists whose chapters appeared across multiple issues of periodicals, combing to create a powerful force binding readers to his elevation of collectors’ social, national and cultural roles.

R&D work regarding the innovative mine transportation system, planned to be powered by the three-phase busbar, developed within theRFCS project "Increase of mines efficiency and health protection through the innovative transport system based on BUSDUCT" is discussed. Assumptions regarding the construction of the locomotive and the production of nitrogen from the air for inerting purposes are discussed in the first part, whereas in the second part adapting thecurrent collector’s brushes to nitrogen injection, the relevant CFD calculations, the stand for testing the inertization, are presented. Many interesting experiments on the effectiveness of inertization using explosive mixtures of hydrogen and air are illustrated, described and discussed.

The utilization of solar radiation to obtain high-temperature heat can be realized by multiplying it on the illuminated surface with solar concentrating technologies. High-temperature heat with significant energy potential can be used for many technological purposes, e.g. the production of heat, cold or electricity. The following paper presents the results of the experimental study, on the operation of the parabolic linear absorber in the parabolic concentrator solar system. The parabolic mirror with an aperture of 1 m and a focal length of 0.25 m focuses the simulated radiation onto a tubular absorber with a diameter of 33.7 mm, which is placed in a vacuum tube. The length of the absorber is 1 m. The installation is illuminated by the solar simulator, which allows to carry out tests under constant and repeatable conditions. The simulator consists of 18 metal halide lamps, with a nominal power of 575 W each with a dimming possibility of up to 60%. The paper presents preliminary results of heat absorption by the analysed absorber, temperature increment, collected heat flux, and the pressure drop crucial for the optimization of the absorber geometry.

Purpose: The aim of the article is to analyse the development of solar energy in Poland against the background of other European countries. Design/methodology/approach: The research was conducted on data for 22 countries between 2012 and 2020 using dynamic analysis and multivariate analysis in the form of cluster analysis. Findings: Between 2012 and 2020, intensive development of solar energy sources was observed in the 22 countries studied. Although Poland invests very intensively - compared to other countries - in solar technologies (especially in photovoltaics), it does not yet belong to the cluster of high-performing countries in this respect. Originality/value: The article's value is to view the development of solar thermal systems in Poland and Europe from the perspective of a multidimensional analysis, which we conducted in two separate time units. This allowed us to draw conclusions about the development of solar systems in Poland also with regard to time.

Opis:
The oxygen-containing functional groups (OCFG) on the coal surface affect the adsorption effect of hydrocarbon oily collectors (HOC). An investigation of the interaction between the HOC and OCFG in the absence and presence of water is conducive to understanding the effect of OCFG type on the adsorption of HOC on the coal surface. In this paper, FTIR analysis was used to analyze the OCFG type of coal surface. The adsorption behavior of HOC on different OCFG surfaces was investigated using molecular dynamics simulation. The results indicated the presence of OCFG such as -OH, -COOH, -C=O, and -COCH3 on the coal surface. In conditions without water, the effect of OCFG on HOC adsorption capability follows the order -COOH > -C=O > -OH > -COCH3. In an aqueous solution, the effect of OCFG on HOC adsorption capability follows the order -C=O>-COCH3>-OH>-COOH. Moreover, the hydrophilicity of OCFG is the key factor that affects the adsorption effect of HOC. In other words, the adsorption effect of HOC on the coal surface in an aqueous solution does not depend on the strength of the interaction between the OCFG and HOC in the absence of water, but on the hydrophilicity of the OCFG. The -COOH and -OH on the coal surface are not conducive to the adsorption of HOC onto the coal surface. Masking the -COOH and -OH of the coal surface is beneficial in improving the coal flotation performance with HOC as a collector.

Opis:
The utilization of seawater in mineral flotation is the future development trend because of the shortage of fresh water resources. However, at present, the flotation behavior and mechanism of galena in seawater are not clear. Therefore, this paper comprehensively carried out the effect mechanism of seawater on the flotation of galena. Micro-flotation results illustrated that the recovery of galena was higher in deionized water than that in 5×10-2 mol/L MgCl2 solution, 1×10-2 mol/L CaCl2 solution and seawater. Contact angle determination and Zeta potential distribution measurements showed that hydrophilic substances adsorbed on the surface of galena under alkaline conditions. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis further indicated that these substances were hydroxides precipitates, carbonate precipitates and hydroxyl complexes formed by divalent magnesium and calcium ions, which prevented the adsorption of collector on mineral surface. As a result, the galena recovery declined in 5×10-2 mol/L MgCl2 solution, 1×10-2 mol/L CaCl2 solution and seawater.

W artykule przeanalizowano przyczyny wprowadzenia w 1564 r. podatku podwodowego. Scharakteryzowano jego dalsze reformy organizacyjno-prawne zachodzące w drugiej połowie XVI i pierwszej połowie XVII stulecia. Zaakcentowano zasady naliczenia podatku płatnikom, sposób jego wybierania oraz rozwiązania dotyczące ściągania zaległości podatkowych. Punktem granicznym prowadzonych badań są reformy Władysława IV przeprowadzone w latach 1646–1647, kiedy zlikwidowano podwody i czterokrotnie podniesiono wymiar podstawy opodatkowania. Dokonano również oceny wielkości przychodów zasilających skarb nadworny z tej daniny.
The article analyses the reasons for introducing the transport services (podwoda) tax in 1564. Next, it characterises its further organisational and legal reforms conducted in the second half of the sixteenth and the first half of the seventeenth centuries. Then, it presents the principles of calculating the tax for payers, the methods of its levying and solutions concerning the collection of outstanding taxes. The research is based on the reforms of King Władysław IV carried out in 1646–1647, when the tax base was increased four times. The study also includes an assessment of the amount of revenue flowing to the court treasury from these duties.

The attachment of bubbles and particles represents one of the sub-processes in froth flotation among others (e.g. collision and detachment). The main interactions present at short distances in such a bubble-particle system are the van der Waals and electrostatic double layer interactions combined in the DLVO theory. In this study, the special features of the attachment process were discussed with a focus on flotation. For the van der Waals interactions, the Hamaker constants were calculated with the help of Lifshitz´ macroscopic theory as a function of the separation distance for specific material combinations. A specific material system (PbS-Water-Air) was used to demonstrate the implementation of bubble-particle attachment of the proposed modelling framework. The effects of additional surfactant/collector and air layers on the solid interface were presented. This framework of layered systems showed that the sign of van der Waals interaction could be turned from repulsive to attractive without the need to extend the DLVO theory. The thickness of the layer as a function of collector adsorption between a particle and a bubble is suggested as a modelling parameter in bubble-particle attachment efficiency.

In this paper, to produce a saleable magnetite concentrate with a sulfur level below 0.20% and recover sulfur concentrate, flotation and magnetic separation tests were undertaken. Results showed that the optimum conditions of flotation were established as follows: grinding fineness of 90% particles passing 0.074mm, pH 6, 400 g/t of CuSO4, and 400 g/t of combined collectors. Under these conditions and magnetic separation, S grade of the magnetite concentrate was reduced from 3.20% to 0.18%, and the Fe grade improved from 57.29% to 71.17%. At the same time a sulfur concentrate with S grade of 38.05% and recovery of 91.32% was also obtained. The XPS results showed that the addition of CuSO4 benefited the formation of hydrophobic Sn2-/S0 and Cu+-xanthate, enhancing pyrrhotite floatability. The flotation separation efficiency could be enhanced using a mixture of collectors, and collector mixture demonstrated three synergetic effects, namely enhanced S recovery, improved adsorption behavior of the collectors and enhanced hydrophobicity of pyrrhotite surface.

Solar photovoltaic (PV) and concentrated solar power (CSP) systems are the present worldwide trends in utilizing solar energy for electricity generation. Solar energy produced from photovoltaic cells (PV) is considered the main common technology used due to its low capital cost; however, the relatively low efficiency of PV cells has spotlighted development and research on thermal engine applications using concentrated solar power. The efficiency of concentrated solar power is greater than that of PV and considering the solar potential for Sudan. Therefore, this study has been performed in an attempt to draw attention to the utilization of CSP in Sudan since the share of CSP is insignificant in comparison with PV, besides the suitability of CSP applications to Sudan’s hot climate and the high solar energy resource, the study presents a design model of 1 MW parabolic trough collectors (PTC) using the Rankine cycle with thermal energy storage (TES) in Sudan, by adopting reference values of the Gurgaon PTC power plant in India. The design of a 1 MW Concentrated Solar thermal power plant using parabolic trough collectors (PTC) and thermal energy storage is proposed. The simulation was performed for a site receiving an annual direct normal irradiance (DNI) of 1915 kWh/m2, near Khartoum. The results showed that the plant can produce between nearly 0.6 to 1 MWh during the year, and around 0.9 MWh when it encompasses thermal energy storage with an average thermal efficiency of 24%. These results of the PTC Power plant encourage further investigation and the development of CSP technologies for electricity generation in Sudan.
Systemy fotowoltaiczne (PV) i skoncentrowanej energii słonecznej (CSP) to obecne światowe trendy w wykorzystywaniu energii słonecznej do wytwarzania energii elektrycznej. Energia słoneczna wytwarzana z ogniw fotowoltaicznych (PV) jest uważana za główną powszechnie stosowaną technologię ze względu na jej niski koszt kapitałowy, jednak stosunkowo niska wydajność ogniw fotowoltaicznych zwróciła uwagę na rozwój i badania nad zastosowaniami silników cieplnych wykorzystujących skoncentrowaną energię słoneczną. W warunkach posiadanego potencjału słonecznego Sudanu wydajność skoncentrowanej energii słonecznej jest większa niż PV. Dlatego niniejsze badanie zostało przeprowadzone w celu zwrócenia uwagi na wykorzystanie CSP w Sudanie, ponieważ udział CSP jest nieznaczny w porównaniu z PV, pomimo przydatności zastosowań CSP do gorącego klimatu Sudanu i wysokich zasobów energii słonecznej. W pracy przedstawiono projekt modelu parabolicznych kolektorów rynnowych (PTC) o mocy 1 MW z wykorzystaniem cyklu Rankine’a z magazynowaniem energii cieplnej (TES) w Sudanie, przyjmując wartości referencyjne elektrowni Gurgaon PTC w Indiach. Zaproponowano projekt elektrowni słonecznej o mocy 1 MW wykorzystującej paraboliczne kolektory rynnowe (PTC) i magazynowanie energii cieplnej. Symulacja została przeprowadzona dla miejsca zlokalizowanego koło Chartumu, o rocznym bezpośrednim napromieniowaniu normalnym (DNI) 1915 kWh/m2. Wyniki pokazały, że elektrownia może wyprodukować od prawie 0,6 do 1 MWh w ciągu roku i około 0,9 MWh, przy wykorzystaniu magazynowanie energii cieplnej ze średnią sprawnością cieplną 24%. Te wyniki elektrowni PTC zachęcają do dalszych badań i rozwoju technologii CSP do wytwarzania energii elektrycznej w Sudanie.

Quartz and feldspar are usually exist in symbiosis in nature, and they are difficult to be separated effectively by conventional physical methods owing to their similarities in crystal structures and surface characteristics. Flotation is the most resultful method, and especially, flotation with hydrofluoric acid (HF) is the most efficient way. Because HF may cause serious environmental and health problems, the effective and environmentally friendly separation of quartz and feldspar remains a formidable challenge. The crystal structure, surface broken bonds, surface energy, and solid–liquid interface properties of quartz and feldspar are investigated in this paper. In particular, some types of mixed cationic/anion collectors and their interaction mechanism on the quartz and feldspar surfaces with acidic, alkaline, and neutral media in the absence of fluorine are discussed, and the grade and scheme of quartz and feldspar for the practical application are illustrated. This review proposes concrete research approaches and provides perspectives for the advanced processing of quartz and feldspar in an environmentally friendly and economical way.

In this study, flotation tests were conducted with purified pyrite and ore samples. The collectors employed were anionic and cationic type such as potassium ethlyl-amyl xanthate, Tomamine M73 and Resanol Bal. According to the flotation tests, it was found that pyrite floated at low pH and depressed at high pH values with xanthates. On the other hand, in the case of cationic collectors which are Tomamine M73 (alkyl ether amine, an amphoteric surfactant) and Resanol Bal (N-3-tridecyloxy propyl 1-3 diamine, branched acetate) pyrite floated at high pH values. It was shown that amine type collectors could be efficient to selectively float pyrite from chalcopyrite at alkali pH ranges in the case of ore samples.

Air pollution is the most harmful to health and the environment out of all types of pollution. Boiler designs with modern burners, fired by biomass, should be characterized by high energy efficiency and compliance with environmental protection standards. The efficiency of the combustion process is determined by the amount of heat obtained. The quality of the combustion process can be evaluated by the efficiency of the fuel processing equipment. The higher the efficiency, the more energy is obtained from combustion of a unit of fuel. One should also remember that, for the purpose of minimizing environmental hazards, besides modern boiler and burner designs, selection of fuel of proper quality and correct selection of flue gas discharge installations, the designing and implementation of an appropriate control system is also necessary. Inadequate control system solutions result in elevated emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere and reduces the efficiency of the combustion process, which increases operating costs as a result.

Opis:
By the emergence of distributed energy resources, with their associated communication and control complexities, there is a need for an efficient platform that can digest all the incoming data and ensure the reliable operation of the power system, which can be achieved by using digital twins. The paper discusses the advantages of using digital twins in the development of control systems and operation of distributed heat and electric power generation facilities. The possibilities of using the digital doubles for increasing the efficiency of the considered objects is presented as the example of optimizing the configuration of a control system of solar collectors in the presence of heat losses in pipelines of the external circuit. Further, the total balance consumed and generated electric and heat energy are presented. Examples of algorithms for protecting equipment to improve security are given, and the possibilities of improving the reliability of distributed power systems are considered. The system use of the digital twins provides the possibility of developing and debugging control algorithms, which increase the efficiency, reliability and safety of control objects, including distributed thermal and electrical power generation complexes.
