Opis:
We emphasize that ‘dialogic space’ is a precondition to the presence and maintenance of collective culture whose most conspicuous dimension is dialogic culture. We assume that dialogic culture constitutes the fullest dimension of humanity, and we highlight its role in a number of assumptions (1-8). Next, dialogic culture in terms of its properties is briefly discussed. We further assume that dialogic space in its verbal-non-verbal tanglements is of central significance in foreign language pedagogy and as such it should be present in foreign teaching/learning programs in order to help promote the positively-charged dialogue-oriented society of practice and at the same time exclude the proliferation of negatively-charged communications.

Dynamic changes in education urge teachers to learn continuously to improve their knowledge via formal or informal means. This paper discusses teachers’ collective learning practices in order to build a culture of collective learning among teachers. Questionnaires were distributed to 321 teachers in 14 High Performing Schools (HPS) throughout Malaysia. The results indicated that HPS possessed collective learning culture when all the collective learning activities were practiced at a high level by the teachers.

Opis:
The paper summarizes the results of ethnological research in the village of Maniowy and Kluszkowce on the the phenomenon of the memory of a place lost through the construction of the Czorsztyn–Niedzica–Sromowce Wyżne Reservoir Complex. The attitude of the displaced community toward its lost territory and the process of its cultural and territorial identity development through remembrance narratives and collective memory are analysed. The article also presents the history of the village flooding due to dam construction and the emerging material forms of the community’s adaptation to the newly settled area.

The research studies on collective memory in Poland have long tradition and clear cultural perspective. The aim of the text is to show this research tradition, which is deeply associated withDurkheimian School legacy, very strong in Poland, both in prewar as well as in postwar period, especially in the work of Stefan Czarnowski, the only Polish member of this School. In this perspective the social memory is closely connected with culture and time. These two categories: culture and social time as important factors in collective memory studies conducted in Poland are object of the present paper. The paper is composed of three parts. In the first one author explains why relations between social memory, culture and social time are important for evaluation of the Polish research tradition. The second part concerns its cultural perspective and is dedicated to the works of Stefan Czarnowski, who started many years ago the cultural stream in Polish memory studies. The third part presents the idea of social time and relations between sociology of time and memory studies in Polish sociology. This specificity of the Polish research studies on collective memory is unknown today, especially for foreign researchers. This tradition is worthy to be recollected.

Many polish people perceive differences between the cultures and societies of the Western and Eastern Europe. For years Ukrainians were described in entirely pejorative terms, because of difficult relationships between Poland and Ukrainian Insurgent Army during the Second World War. The purpose of this article is to describe the basic terms of sociology such as nation, collective consciousness, national stereotypes, national identity, and the role and influence of the negative stereotypes on the image of Ukrainians in polish society. Polish people believe that their social values are in sharp contrast to the Ukrainians ones, but this negative perspective was abandoned after Orange revolution and revolution in 2014. The reports and analysis of the attitudes of public opinion emphasize that the Polish public have changed their opinion towards Ukrainians.

It still remains an open problem as to which directions and methods are necessary to choose in the situations of risk, xenophobia, and intolerance, so as to settle disputes and resolve conflicts; it should be done in such a way as to have the desired social effects and to properly implement moral principles, including responsibility for the real future of one’s own, of one’s community, and of the whole human species. The author justifies the position that the processes of transformation of the social order should take a more remarkable account of the requirements of safety culture and praxeology recommendations.

Ethnoanimation connects ethnographic research and culture animation. This method has been developed for ten years by Tomasz Rakowski, The Field Collective and author of the text. The last project where the method was tested was the laboratory known as the “Local dimensions of cultural participation. Ethnographic action research”, Warsaw University within a larger framework of a Ministry of Culture grant “Creating bottom-up culture”. In this project students and The Field Collective created an ethnoanimation project in the villages of Zaława and Cukrówka in Poland. They reflected upon them by putting them on an “animation zip” diagram according to the level of cohesion between animation and ethnography in their projects. The “animation zip” as an useful tool that may be interpreted inthe context of “best practices” of culture animation defined by National Culture Centre to define typical features of ethnoanimation practices. In this text the author tries to answer the question–what makes an ethnoanimation project most effective.

W proponowanym artykule rozpatrywana jest rewizja pamięci jako konstruktywny czynnik współczesnej świadomości narodowej Ukraińców. W ciągu ostatnich lat ten problem okazał się jednym z najważniejszych w społeczeństwie i kulturze Ukraińców. Aktualne badanie polega na dokładnej analizie książki Serhija Osoki Три лини для Марії (Trzy liny dla Mariji). Książka jest zbiorem opowiadań związanych ze sobą wspólną strategią przemyślenia przez bohatera własnego doświadczenia życia, szczególnie z okresu dzieciństwa. Wartością nadrzędną takiej strategii literackiej jest sposób wyeksponowania przez autora indywidualnej pamięci bohatera na tle pamięci zbiorowej, reprezentowanej poprzez odrębne doświadczenia ludzi skazanych na zapomnienie w biegu historii.
The article presents research on a very important problem, which has become extremely widespread in Ukrainian society and culture during the last years. It is a revision of memory as a constructive element of the contemporary Ukrainian national consciousness. The research is based on Serhij Osoka’s book Три лини для Марії (Three Tench for Mariia). The different stories included in the book are connected by the same strategy – rethinking the hero’s life experience, mostly that of his childhood. The main value of such a literary strategy is that the writer presents the personal memories of his hero against the background of collective memory. The last one shaped by the stories of people who have disappeared without a trace in the background of history.

Opis:
The author pays attention to problems of the excess and the deficiency of collective memory, the latter understood as certain ideas of the past of given groups. He points to the “density of commemorating”, as well as individual, public, dominant, opposite, imposed and marginal types of memory. He introduces different interpretations and understanding of the collective memory, problems of its construction, manipulating by it, and the ideologization. He makes a clear distinction between collective memory and history, locating the first notion and the cultural sense of security within the group of the essential developmental needs of human and the culture. Cultural security is treated not only as the lack in cultivating the tradition, but also as the constant need for preventive and educational activities. He portrays examples favouring the growth of the culture of a given group, pointing to experiences omitted by the mainstream of memory, consequently generating the loss of the cultural sense of security. The author emphasizes that anxiety linked to the cultural security, connected with the loss of the recognition, is the main the cause of human tragedies, therefore cross-cultural education should perform tasks tightly linked to elimination of the hazardous process of ideologization of the nation.
Autor zwraca uwagę na problem nadmiaru i niedoboru pamięci zbiorowej jako wyobrażeń o przeszłości grupy. Wskazuje na „gęstość upamiętniania”, pamięć indywidualną i publiczną, dominującą i przeciwną, narzuconą i marginalną. Przedstawia różne interpretacje i rozumienie pamięci zbiorowej, problemy jej konstruowania, manipulowanie ją i ideologizację. Odróżnia pamięć zbiorową od historii, sytuując ją oraz poczucie bezpieczeństwa kulturowego w grupie podstawowych potrzeb rozwojowych człowieka i jego kultury. Bezpieczeństwo kulturowe traktuje nie tylko jako brak zagrożeń w kultywowaniu tradycji ale także jako ustawiczną potrzebę prowadzenia działalności profilaktycznej i edukacyjnej. Ukazuje przykłady pamięci sprzyjające rozwojowi kultury grupy jak też doświadczenia i przeżycia pomijane przez główny nurt pamięci i tym samym powodujące utratę poczucia bezpieczeństwa kulturowego. Podkreśla, że lęki o bezpieczeństwo kulturowe, o utratę uznania są i były przyczyną wielu tragedii ludzkich, stąd edukacja międzykulturowa winna realizować zadania związane z niwelowaniem niebezpiecznego procesu ideologizacji narodu.

Tekst przedstawia zagadnienia związane ze współczesnymi miejscami pamięci. Autor analizuje symbolikę pomników i memoriałów, w których osią upamiętnienia jest „przejście”, brama, szczelina. Pyta o intencje twórców takich miejsc pamięci i podkreśla, że są one nie tylko reprezentacją przeszłości. Zdobywając status symbolu, wyraźnie wpływają na zbiorową wyobraźnię. Nie tylko pielęgnują wspomnienia, ale też odgrywają ważną rolę w budowaniu mostów między przeszłością a teraźniejszością. Wspierają edukację obywatelską i kształtują postawy społeczne.
The article describes various issues pertaining to the contemporary sites of remembrance. The author analyzes the symbolism of particular kinds of monuments and memorials in the context of an overarching theme of transition or a passage, sometimes represented as a gate or a fissure. The inspiration of creators of such memorials is being theorized by the author. He points out that these memorials are not merely symbols of the past. They constantly influence the collective imagination by gaining a landmark status. Not only do they preserve memories of events and people, but they also function as a bridge between the past and the present. Such sites of remembrance support civic education efforts and have the ability to form societal identity.

This paper is a review of Aleksandra Niewiara’s monograph Imagologia – pamięć zbiorowa – umysł i kultura [Imagology – Collective Memory – Mind and Culture]. The volume investigates the nature of collective conceptions of nations in terms of ethnolinguistic imagology. It consists of a theoretical part (“Concepts of Nations in the Light of Cognitive Studies on Culture”), an analytical part (examining verbal and visual data) and a comparative part, which discusses ways of constructing ideas about nations as cultural conceptualisations: networks of concepts present in the minds of members of a community (and therefore also representatives of a culture). Concepts of nations have thus far been considered a static and fragmentary category. The reviewed monograph shows this category as an element of the network of culture, which reflects the basic image schemas and – like any part of culture – changes over time.  
Niniejszy artykuł stanowi recenzję monografii poświęconej polskim wyobrażeniom o narodach w ujęciu imagologii etnolingwistycznej. Praca składa się z trzech części: teoretycznej (Wyobrażenia o narodach w świetle kognitywnych badań kultury), analitycznej (danych werbalnych i wizualnych) oraz badawczej w formie dyskusji nad sposobem konstruowania wyobrażeń o narodach jako konceptualizacji kulturowych w postaci sieci pojęć obecnych w umysłach pojedynczych osób wybranej grupy społecznej – reprezentantów danej kultury. Kategoria wyobrażeń o narodach, uważana dotąd za specyficzną ze względu na statyczny i wycinkowy sposób konceptualizacji, przedstawiona została jako jeden z elementów sieci kultury, odwzorowujący podstawowe schematy wyobrażeniowe i podlegający – jak cała kultura – zmianom na osi czasu.

In Poland, research into collective memory has a long tradition and clear cultural perspective. The author’s aim is to show that this research tradition, which is deeply associated with the legacy of the Durkheimian school, was very strong in Poland in both the prewar and postwar periods, especially in the work of Stefan Czarnowski, the only Polish member of the school. In this perspective, social memory is closely connected with culture and time. In the first part of the paper, the author explains why the relations between social memory, culture, and social time are important for evaluating the Polish research tradition. The second part is dedicated to the works of Stefan Czarnowski, who started the cultural stream in Polish memory studies many years ago. The third part presents the idea of social time, and the relations between the sociology of time and memory studies in Polish sociology. The specificity of Polish studies on collective memory is little known today, especially to foreign researchers, but the tradition is worth remembering.

Though it is laborious to examine the culture of the school, researchers have been endeavouring to empirically apprehend it since the 1960’s. A variety of research jobs have been carried out, of various starting points, ways of materialisation, and conclusions. The present text indicates a way of classifying these studies according to the purposes they had been assigned. Though the list of examples is not entirely complete nor is the classification definite, a conclusion is clear and evident: in most cases, the culture of the school is not examined in order to grasp this culture itself. Much more often, the culture of the school is examined as a starting point, a pre-condition, or a tool to explore another object of the researcher’s interest outside the culture itself, such as the quality and evaluation of the school’s overall performance, the quality of the learning process, or the school’s developmental potential.

The paper aims to outline how video games Valiant Hearts: The Great War (Ubisoft Montpellier, 2014) and My Memory of Us (Juggler Games, 2018) use narrative and ludic structures to create commemorative stories about the First World War and the Second World War. The author refer to the concept of historical culture (among others, in Jörn Rüsen’s interpretation) and examine the connections between the two video games focusing on the issue of designers’ intentions (digital games as examples of the commemoration of the past), the genre similarity (2D platform games), the intermedial convergence and the press reception. He discusses the strategy of the cultural agreement between designers and users, analyzes historical narratives as a part of the gameplay, examines relations between the individual and collective’s perspective and characterizes immersion’s mechanisms which reinforce players’ identification with the victims of both wars.
