Opis:
The contribution focuses on the issue of teacher authority and classroom climate. Our research aimed to determine a relationship between teacher authority built on the teacher’s interaction style and dimensions constituting the classroom climate. The research involved n = 411 students who assessed the interaction style of their teachers (n = 23). The Questionnaire on Teacher Interaction (QTI) and Classroom Environment Scale (CES) were employed. Analysis of empirical data showed a statistically significant positive relationship between the interaction style-built teacher authority and classroom climate dimensions. The statistically significant positive relationship was between the interaction style dimensions: helpful, understanding, student responsibility and the classroom climate dimensions: involvement, task orientation, organisation and order, and rule clarity. A statistically negative relationship was found between the interaction style dimensions: uncertain, dissatisfied, admonishing and the classroom climate dimensions: teacher support, organisation and order, and rule clarity. According to our findings, authoritative teachers, perceived by students as good organisers, helpful, understanding, and giving responsibility, can create a positive climate in classrooms.

Opis:
This study looked at the impact of the integration of contemplative practices on foreign language anxiety, positive and negative affect, self-efficacy, classroom climate, and language learning in students enrolled in an advanced intermediate Spanish language course in the USA. Data included pre- and post-test surveys, exam scores to measure learning outcomes, student interviews, and course evaluations. In the contemplative group, students engaged in brief 10-minute contemplative practices once a week, while the non-contemplative group followed the same syllabus but was not exposed to contemplative practices. Analysis of the data showed no significant differences in foreign language anxiety, self-efficacy or affect between the non-contemplative and contemplative groups at post-test but significantly higher scores on classroom climate measures in the contemplative group. Significantly higher grades were found on course exams for students in the contemplative group. Analysis of the pre-/post-survey data revealed a significant decrease in foreign language anxiety in both groups over the semester but not for affect or self-efficacy. This study extends the existing research on contemplative practices to a new context-affect and learning in foreign language courses.

This article reports on data gathered during research on teachers’ emotional work. The author developed the Teacher Emotional Labour Scale (TELS) based on the verified theoretical model. The model is twofold and consists of intrapersonal and interpersonal dimensions of emotional labour. The research took place in public schools. The gathered data indicates that surveyed teachers developed different strategies for working with emotions. They use both deep and surface work. 1/3 of them declared not coping with work-related emotions, which has personal and interpersonal consequences.

In this article we examine the results of the research on social climate in the school classes for gifted children in comparison with regular classes of the 1st stage elementary school. The research sample was made up by 36 children from 3 classes for gifted children and 73 pupils from regular classes. The research has proved some dissimilarity among monitored school classes as to how they perceive social climate evaluated by means of the questionnaire My Class Inventory. Gifted children have more difficulties in relationships, they are more competitive, less satisfied, and they feel to burdened by learning than pupils from regular classes.

Opis:
This study contains an analysis of school reality and refers to its perception by individuals directly engaged in it, namely the students (teachers’ perception has been excluded) who experience and face various situations occurring at school environment. The purpose of this project was to explore various aspects of school life from students’ perspective in actual and preferred terms. The research was carried out among 1,036 students of elementary school, from grade 4 to grade 7, and middle-school from grade 2 to grade 3. The research tool was TROFLEI questionnaire (Technology-Rich Outcomes-Focused Learning Environment Inventory). The study has enabled identification of those aspects of everyday school reality which are of utmost importance to the students. The results moreover revealed a gap between the actual and the preferred states for all characteristics between elementary school students and middle-school students. The study results suggest a change of teaching methods and styles in Polish school and rejection of the schematic approach to pay attention to students’ personal development and relationships between students themselves and between students and teachers. All that is a precondition for a friendly atmo[1]sphere at school and underpins a successful realization of its function.

Opis:
Introduction: The article presents the results of a diagnostic study covering the needs of fourth-class students at Kraków primary schools in the field of school prevention. Conducting preventive activities in schools and educational institutions is a statutory obligation, and the conditions impacting such activities lie in many areas, such as the adopted concept of prevention, school procedures, legal conditions, and the local system of prevention, and in the existing social climate in the school classroom. The study of the strengths and weaknesses of the social climate of the class is an important element of the diagnosis of the class, which is a necessary condition, defined by law, for the design, implementation, and evaluation of the educational-preventive program of the school and educational institution. Research Aim: The purpose of the study was to diagnose the social climate of the classroom directed at formulating guidelines and recommendations for conducting an educational and preventive program in the school classroom. Method: The research method was analysis of the products of the subjects with the help of the “draw-write” diagnostic technique developed by Woynarowska and Woynarowska-Sołdan. Results: The results of the research include the strengths and weaknesses of the social climate most often indicated by students allowing us to identify the priority problems of the class, which can be risk factors for risky behaviour, and help us to design adequate preventive measures. Conclusions: Findings from the survey indicate that the strengths of the social climate of the classroom indicated by students are elements of the classroom/school environment, most often material objects, well associated by students with classroom games, spending time together and having fun, while less often students indicated relationships with classmates and teachers. Among weaknesses, students most often cited negatively assessed student behaviour during breaks and in class. The priority problem in all the classes surveyed was aggressive behaviour by students, in verbal and physical forms, resulting from low communication skills and ignorance of the rules of group behaviour and cooperation.
Wprowadzenie: Artykuł prezentuje wyniki badań diagnostycznych obejmujących potrzeby uczniów klas czwartych krakowskich szkół podstawowych w zakresie profilaktyki szkolnej. Prowadzenie w szkołach i placówkach oświatowych działań profilaktycznych jest obowiązkiem ustawowym, a ich uwarunkowania obejmują przyjętą koncepcję profilaktyki, procedury szkolne, uwarunkowania prawne i lokalny system profilaktyki, a także istniejący w klasie szkolnej klimat społeczny. Badanie mocnych i słabych stron klimatu społecznego klasy jest istotnym elementem diagnozy klasy, stanowiącej niezbędny, określony prawem warunek zaprojektowania, realizacji i ewaluacji programu wychowawczo-profilaktycznego szkoły i placówki oświatowej. Wśród słabych stron uczniowie najczęściej wymieniali negatywnie oceniane zachowania uczniów podczas przerw i podczas lekcji. Priorytetowym problemem we wszystkich badanych klasach były zachowania agresywne uczniów, w formach werbalnych i fizycznych, wynikające z niskich umiejętności komunikacyjnych i nieznajomości zasad zachowania i współpracy w grupie.
