Opis:
Recovery of silver and lead by means of chloride leaching of solid residue after atmospheric leaching of the copper concentrate from Lubin Concentrator (KGHM) was investigated. The effect of leaching temperature, chloride concentration, Fe(III) and oxygen presence, solid-to-liquid ratio and feed preleaching with NaOH on the silver and lead recovery was analyzed. Chloride leaching appeared to be very effective for recovery of lead, whereas satisfactory recovery of silver was observed after chemical pretreatment of the leaching feed with alkali solution of NaOH in order to liberate Ag entrapped in the jarosite structure. It was found that to achieve the satisfactory recovery of Ag and Pb leaching had to be performed in acidified 4 M chloride concentration at temperature of 90 oC. The presence of oxidants, that is O2 and iron(III) ions, was beneficial in the initial stage of the process. The maximum recovery of Ag and Pb was found for the solid-to-liquid ratio of 1:10 after 10 hours leaching.

Opis:
The zinc leaching filter cake residue as a secondary resource is used for hydrometallurgical lead production from brine (chloride) media. In this method, zinc accumulation caused decrease in the lead leaching efficiency in feed solution as well as a defective cycle flowsheet in production process. Therefore, an experiment was designed for the solvent extraction (SX) of zinc from brine solution after lead cementation stage. The results indicated that approximately 98% zinc with a little contamination of other metals was extracted under optimum conditions (193.5 g.dm-3 of D2EHPA in kerosene as diluent, pH=3.5, contact time=5 min, temperature=40±2 °C and aqueous: organic ratio (A:O)=1:1). Also, according to the differences of ∆pH0.5 and separation factor values among Zn and other ions, D2EHPA as an organophosphorous extractant has suitable capability for zinc selective extraction from brine solution. Moreover, H2SO4 solution which was used for stripping to transfer Zn2+ ions to zinc conventional production sulphate media achieved high efficiency of 99%. McCabe-Thiele diagram was simulated to counter-current extraction route. The results showed that two stages were needed for both extraction and stripping.

Opis:
Cyanide is used in the leaching phase of hydrometallurgical recovery of gold. The toxicity and environmental risks have created a need for safer alternatives. There is a vast amount of information about gold extraction and a selection has been collected and formalized to be used in a decision support tool. The tool Auric Advisor uses case-based reasoning (CBR) to provide process alternatives for the user queries. The aim of this paper is to study leaching of gold with cyanide replacing alternatives such as ammonium thiosulfate, chloride-hypochlorite, thiourea and thiocyanate to provide new cases for the tool. The behaviour of gold was examined with electrochemical tests and weight loss measurements a using quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) were used to determine the dissolution rate. Based on literature, the dissolution rate determined for cyanide solution was 2.5 mgcm-2h-1. Based on polarisation experiments and potential measurements, the ammonium thiosulfate system with cupric ion as oxidant was estimated to dissolve gold slower than cyanide. In the QCM tests the chloride-hypochlorite alternative showed highest dissolution rate of 8.6 mgcm-2h-1 at the redox potential of 900 mV vs. SHE. The thiocyanate system with ferric ion dissolved gold at a rate of 3.4 mgcm-2h-1 at the redox potential of 620 mV vs. SHE. Thiourea system with ferric ion showed the dissolution rate of 1.65 mg cm-2 h-1 at the redox potential of 450 mV vs. SHE. The results of the rapid tests were comparable with literature and were included in the case base of the Auric Advisor decision-support tool.

Opis:
Effects of sulphuric acid and ammonia chloride on muscovite dissolution were studied in acid leaching of vein quartz under elevated temperature and pressure. The leaching processes have been studied in detail by analyzing sources of impurity minerals, optimizing leaching process, analyzing leaching kinetics of Al in muscovite and charactering leaching mechanism of muscovite. The results showed that elements of Al and K mainly occurred in muscovite, and 98.10% or more of muscovite could be removed by acid leaching, while the process had limited influence on the particle size of quartz sand. Leaching of Al in the quartz ore was mainly controlled by chemical reaction. A calcination process and ammonia chloride were used for reducing chemical reaction resistance by damaging crystal structure of muscovite and providing stable acid leaching environment. Combined with the calcination process, muscovite, as a main gangue mineral, was effectively extracted during acid leaching of vein quartz at elevated temperature and pressure.

Opis:
A polyester plasticizer (RSOP) for polyvinyl chloride based on rubber seed oil (RSO) was synthesized. Firstly, RSO monoglyceride were synthesized by the transesterifi cation of RSO with glycerol at 220–240 °C. Secondly, RSOP was synthesized from RSO monoglyceride and adipic acid by esterification. The polyester plasticizer was characterized by GPC, FT-IR, 1H NMR and DSC. Plasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC) materials with RSOP and dioctyl phthalate (DOP) in varying ratios were prepared via thermal melting process, RSOP was used as a second plasticizer. The properties of the plasticized PVC materials were characterized by a universal testing machine, TGA, DMA and solvent extraction resistance. The obtained PVC materials showed improved thermal stability and lower glass transition temperature than PVC. Solvent extraction resistance and plasticization of plasticized PVC were also improved. This study provides a new strategy for preparing bio-based polyester plasticizer from RSO.

Opis:
Alumina rich fly ash (ARFA) has been regarded as the alternative to bauxite in China. Hydrochloric acid process could be favored for alumina extraction, necessitating calcination of aluminum chloride hexahydate (ACH). In this work, the TGA/DSC results of ACH were used to suggest calcination procedures. Two-step calcinations of 200-1000°C and 350-1000°C did not increase the surface area of alumina, by comparison with one step 1000°C calcination, and a slow heating rate could improve the surface area. Calcination temperature was increased from 950 to 1250°C in a step of 50°C, and XRD, XRF, BET and gas pycnometer were used to characterize the alumina from calcinated ACH. Consistent results were obtained by these different techniques, and two groups of impurities were identified and related to alumina purity and surface area. By comparison with clays, it was suggested to remove impurities such as MgO, Na2 O, K2 O, P2 O5 and SO3 in hydrochloric acid leaching of ARFA.

Opis:
In this study, the synergistic effects of the oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) of leaching slurry and additives (pyrite, sodium chloride and silica) on chalcopyrite atmospheric leaching were investigated. According to the best results of leaching experiments, in the optimum ORP range of 410-430 mV, galvanic (pyrite mass ratio of 4:1), chemical (1.5 mol/dm3 sodium chloride concentration), galvanochemical (pyrite mass ratio of 4:1 and 1.5 mol/dm3 sodium chloride concentration) and mechanical (30 g/dm3 silica concentration) treatments provided 29.8, 46.4, 48.6 and 6.7% increase in the copper recovery, respectively. In galvanic treatments, effective surface corrosion of chalcopyrite was the reason for enhanced chalcopyrite dissolution. In chemical and galvanochemical treatments, considerable surface porosity of chalcopyrite was responsible for accelerated leaching. Also, in mechanical treatments, removing the remained passive layer from the chalcopyrite surface improved leaching. SEM results showed extensive porosity in the chalcopyrite surface in the presence of pyrite and sodium chloride and even more porosity in the presence of their combination. SEM results also showed obviously clean surface of chalcopyrite in the presence of silica. The comparison of ORP-assisted and non-ORP-assisted experiments showed that there were 8, 5.2, 3.9 and 0.5% more copper recoveries in galvanic, chemical, galvanochemical and mechanical treatments with ORP assistance, respectively. The reason was the fewer chalcopyrite surface passivation, which caused the additives to perform better.
