When analyzing the reasons of the previous programs`failure, we usually focus on the following questions: timeliness of the program results obtaining, keeping to the budget frames, and the results compliance with the quality parameters specified. In other cases, the analysis confirms that the program and the team’s activity have been successfully finished, the payments to suppliers completed and the interested persons and users quite satisfied. It is much less frequently when the question of selecting the most pertinent area of changes is raised, as well as thequestion of readiness of the organization for the changes to occur due to the implementation of the program. The process of introducing a program, that assure changes, into organization activities is the subject of this article. The objectives: development of an instrument for analyzing the possibility of implementation of changes into the work of an organization and for evaluating the intensity of resistance to changes. The task is to analyze factors having an impact on the results and possibility of introducing changes within an organization, to consider and to ground the main problems and the sources of resistance to the changes. In our research, we used such methods as logical summarizing, analysis and synthesis, structural analysis. The results: a model of calculating the resistance to changes has been developed. This model takes account of the program implementation intensity and allows determining the total level of resistance to changes after successful completion of the program. The research showed that the total level can be both high and low, as the organization personnel, especially its top management, may not recognize the need for changes, or may strive for achieving stability of the company situation. In the course of the research, the basic features of the changes introducing programs have been defined and the basic problems appearing at an organization presented, particularly, those relating to its personnel. The problems have been classified as relating to the organization top management and directly relating to the team working on the program. Conclusions: the instruments foranalyzing the implementation of the program of changes or transformations within an organization have been obtained. The results achieved in the research bring the statement that if the resistance to changes is stronger than the organizational potential of a company, any benefits from the implementation of the program are leveled down. Therefore, the reduction of the general resistance to changes within an organization isneeded first, and only after this, any programs and projects can be implemented.

Indoor radon concentration undergoes 24-hour and seasonal changes. The paper presents first in Poland results of radon concentration changeability in one building during the whole year. We performed 103 measurements of indoor radon concentrations. The following parameters of radon concentration distribution were obtained: arithmetic mean - 224.1 Bq m 3, geometric mean - 194.5 Bq m 3, median - 207 Bq m 3, and geometric standard deviation - 1.84. The minimum observed value was 22 Bq m 3 and the maximum - 748 Bq m 3. We determined the monthly and annual values of radon concentrations. The values for particular months are in the range of 0.5 to 1.6 of the annual mean. We observed a correlation between the mean radon concentrations in the examined buildings and the differences in the mean values of indoor (R = 0.91, p < 0.05) and outdoor temperatures (R = 0.91, p < 0.05). There was also a connection between the radon concentration inside the buildings and the changes in atmospheric pressure.

The article provides a comparison of the dynamic increase in the number of enterprises relative to the working-age population in the private sector in the years 2001–2004 (the immediate pre-accession period) and 2004–2007 (the immediate post-accession period). The study was conducted with regard to the main sectors of economic activity (agriculture, industry, lower-order services and higher-order services), as well as the functional diversity of municipalities, or gminas (urban and suburban categories, transportation corridors, tourism, etc., for a total of 16 categories). The study indicates a decline, inertia, spatial polarisation and tessellated spatial structure of the development dynamic of private enterprises.

Nowadays, human activity has been playing an increasing role in determining the quality of surface waters. The aim of the following article is to show an influence of anthropogenic factors influencing the variability of chemical composition of river waters in a catchment area with an agricultural use of lands. The authors carried out the analysis of surface waters quality, made an inventory of pollution sources of surface waters and presented the proposal of quality improvement of surface waters in the Miechów and Kazimierz districts. Research on the concentration of biogenic compounds was conducted in the Nidzica catchment area. Data for research was obtained from the Voivodship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection, County Offices and Commune Offices. The tested area was an agricultural one. The major pollutants of the waters of catchment areas include both area and point pollution. Fertilizers and natural fertilizers are used to raise the yield and then they get into the surface waters by flushing from the fields. The main goal is to investigate the dynamics of changes in the content of nutrient compounds in surface waters during the year (seasonal changes) and in the multiannual period (multiannual changes).

The paper seeks to present a synthetic approach to the process of changes in organisation and its course. The models to change organisation as proposed in Polish and foreign literature have been discussed here. We have started from the best known and the most general models, and shown some aspects of managing changes. The less popular theoretical models of the process of changes in foreign literature, yet very interesting from for various points of view, have also been described. The paper has attempted to gather those models and compare the solution they propose. As a result, some conclusions have been drawn. They concern the common properties of all models, which may help to take effective steps to transform organisations in practice. Lewin's, Kotter's, or Cameron's basic models of the process of changes are well-known in technical literature. These models underlie the restructuring solutions for concrete organisations that are applied by the biggest consulting firms in the world. The firms may then create their own conceptions, according to how this process of changes in a given organisation should be.

Literatura w różnorodny sposób odnosi się do wyjaśnienia pojęcia zmiana w organizacji – najczęściej jednak uważa się, że jest to przejście z jednego stanu do drugiego. W organizacjach odbywają się zmiany: strategiczne, organizacyjne, związane ze wzrostem firmy oraz jej rozwojem. Do zmian podchodzi się ze strony finansowej oraz organizacyjnej (Teoria E i Teoria O). Zmiany wdrażają menedżerowie zatrudnieni w firmie bądź osoby z zewnątrz (firmy konsultingowe). Aby zmiana była we właściwy sposób zaprojektowana i przeprowadzona, należy wziąć pod uwagę czynniki determinujące jej przebieg (rozmrożenie, zmiana, zamrożenie). Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie wybranych koncepcji i modeli opisujących wdrażanie zmian w organizacjach.
Literature references, in many ways, the explanation of the term a change in an organisation – although mostly it is considered that it is a passage from one state to another. In organisations changes like: strategic, organizational, connected with the growth of a company and its development are being introduced. Changes are approached from the economic and organizational side (Theory “E” and Theory “O”). Changes are introduced by management employed in a company or different managers (consulting firms). For the change to be appropriately designed and conducted it is necessary to take under consideration factors determining its course (unfreeze, a change, refreeze). The goal of this article is to present theories and models describing the introducing of changes in organisations.

In this article, we take a closer look at the way in which names of habits operate in dictionaries and therefore in the Polish language. We refer our observations to an analysis of sixteen dictionary entries of our interest. What is more, we have confronted these entries with the results of questionnaires distributed among the students of the Poznań and Kalisz Institutes of Polish Philology. The analysed dictionary material provides an interesting insight and, more importantly, highlights the considerable discrepancy between dictionary theory and the practical command of the analysed words.

Currently, companies must change and evolve to keep pace with the changing environment, customers’ requirements and to be better than their competitors. The changes result from the need to adapt the products to new customers’ requirements as well as to maintain competitive prices of their products. Therefore, companies should be flexible to guarantee short lead time and minimalize their costs to offer a good price for the customers. At the same time, companies should create good work environment for their employees in order to get them involved in improvement processes. In order to survive and develop companies should motivate and involve their employees into a continuous improvement process in different areas of the company. Unfortunately, as based on the companies’ practice and previous research, in many cases employees are not willing to engage in the company development. Continuous improvement is the basis of the philosophy of Quality Management and Lean Manufacturing, which come from Toyota Production System (TPS). The TPS eventually spread throughout the world, and it is held up as an example of the proper management of a production system. The assumptions of TPS system were used to build systems in other companies, but not always with the same success as it was in Toyota. For this reason, the authors of this paper seek to answer the question of whether there are differences in engagement in a continuous improvement process between employees in a Japanese company and a Polish company operating in the same industry and realizing the similar manufacturing. In order to verify this, the research was conducted in two manufacturing companies which operate in the automotive industry. The results of the study and their analysis are presented in the work.

A relatively undisturbed pollen sequence from the Late Saalian–Eemian–Early Vistulian interval has been discovered in Dziewule in the Podlasie region, eastern Poland. Geological and palynological investigations are used to illustrate the evolution of Eemian climate, which, at this site, shows no large-scale and abrupt oscillations. Almost full interglacial conditions are already present from the early part of the sequence (the end of the boreal Betula–Pinus Zone). Thermophilous indicator plants (e.g. Viburnum lantana, Cornus mas, Cotinus coggygria—newly found in the Eemian of Poland) show their maximum occurrence in the second half of the Quercus Zone and in the Corylus Zone, marking the climatic optimum of the interglacial. We found no signs of substantial climate fluctuations in the Carpinus Zone suggested by some authors.

Transformations of a marriage concern not only its formal features that result from the subsequent developmental phases of every dyad, but are determined by its dynamics as well. The dynamic aspect of marriage functioning includes its different qualities in different phases or even situations of the partners’ common life. In each phase, five qualities of marriage may be actualised or one of them may become dominant. Every change is a potential source of a conflict, crisis, or menace. In progressive development of a marriage it is assumed that its imperfect qualities last for a short time and apparent or real satisfaction is achieved. Confronting individual needs, fancies, and expectations of partners may lead either to creative development, which results in their mutual adaptation and improving the relationship, or to deepening differences, which lowers its quality. The highest form of mutual understanding and adapting of partners in a marriage is the so called variable model. It consists in permeation of the traditional model and the partner one. Tasks for the partners are determined by a current situation to which they adapt. Depending on the situation, tasks related to housekeeping and caring for children are taken over by one partner (not necessarily a woman) or both partners become equally engaged. A relationship between a model of marriage and its quality is indicated. Respecting the traditional model or the partner one stiffly occurs to become a reason for conflicts and crises in marriage, which are repeated in subsequent phases of the dyad’s life. The variable model is submitted to the dynamics of the dyad’s life and thus it favours success in marriage. The flexibility of partners in these relationships results from their high empathy and optimal communication, the features that have been evidenced in earlier research.

Opis:
19 and 20 century morals guides written for persons in diverse life situations constitute a basis for the article presented. The decoding of the contemporary and historic meanings of engagement was attempted from that perspective. Pre-marital relationships would always constitute an important stage of transition. Their arranging initially depended on the senior members of families, with the feelings and opinions of the engaged hardly ever taken into account. Changes in the forms of establishing and functioning of relationships preceding marriage took place in the second half of the 20 century.

This article seeks to show changes in the socio-economic structure of the thirty largest Polish cities, in topological relations, and in the type of socio-economic differences among them. The research was carried out at three analytical levels: of the unitary variables chosen, principal components, and in a synthetic approach (cluster analysis). To assess structural changes, use was made of comparative statics involving an analysis of the 1998 and 2008 situations. The period analysed was one of dynamic changes in the determinants of the socio-economic development of Polish cities, with four reforms of key significance being introduced, not all of them crowned with success, but also a period marking the start of a decline in demographic dynamics and of suburbanisation processes. It is also treated as a time of transition from a quantitative to a qualitative type of urban development, as indicated by improving services in the sphere of municipal infrastructure. Those processes are connected with the restructuring of the economy, in particular with its distinctly post-industrial orientation, which is especially readily visible in the case of the Upper Silesian Industrial District (a mining and heavy-industry region). The research corroborated the highly specific type of development of the towns of this region as well as the unique position of the Polish capital city. It also showed that the changes which determined the tendencies of transformation of the Polish cities were mainly those in demography, housing situation, level of health care, and level of entrepreneurship.

W artykule zwrócono uwagę na zmiany na poziomie gospodarki oraz organizacji, które powodują iż niezbędne stają się również zmiany w edukacji. Edukacja zmienia się jednak znacznie wolniej i w wielu przypadkach nie odpowiada na potrzeby rynku. Starano się pokazać jak niezbędna jest spójność i zintegrowany rozwój gospodarki i edukacji. Autorka podkreśla, że nowe programy zajęć powinny wspomagać ustawiczne kształcenie, gdyż w gospodarce wiedzy liczy się przede wszystkim umiejętność uczenia się i zarządzania własnym samorozwojem. Uczelnie muszą sprostać wyzwaniom – ale przede wszystkim stać się liderami rozwoju społecznego i gospodarczego. Dziś warunkiem sukcesu jest wykorzystywanie wiedzy z różnych dziedzin i łączenie jej z praktyką. Swoje tezy opiera na doświadczeniach z realizacji międzynarodowego projektu edukacyjnego, w którym podjęto próbę innowacyjnych rozwiązań. Projekt był zrealizowany przez uniwersytety regionalne, które prowadzą swą działalność na terenach przygranicznych. Celem było połączenie wiedzy z doświadczeniem wykładowców obu uniwersytetów oraz wiedzy z doświadczeniami przedsiębiorczymi. Innowacyjnym podejściem było wspólne kształcenie studentów i doktorantów wraz z przedstawicielami biznesu. W ramach implikacji praktycznej dochodziło do transferu wiedzy we wszystkich możliwych kierunkach: z uczelni do świata biznesu, ze świata biznesu do uczelni, pomiędzy uczelniami, z biznesu do biznesu, a to wszysto działo się jeszcze w wymiarze transgranicznym. Innowacyjna forma edukacji okazała się być ciekawą, zachęcającą do dalszego zdobywania wiedzy oraz korzystną dla uczestników i rozwoju regionalnego.
The article deals with the changes at the level of economics and institutions, which cause the changes in education to be necessary. The education changes happen much more slowly and in many cases they do not reflect the market demands. The aim was to show, how necessary it is to acquire conjunction and harmonious development of the economics and education. The author stresses that the new curricula should support the lifelong education, because knowledge-based economics and education accentuate the ability to learn and manage one’s own development. Universities must meet the expectation – but they should be foremost the leaders of social and economic development. Today the condition of the success is the use of knowledge from various disciplines and connection with the field experience. Her theses the author bases on experiences from the realization of international educational project, where the innovative solution had been tried. The project was implemented by regional universities in border regions. The goal was to interconnect the knowledge and experiences of the teachers from both universities with the knowledge and experiences of businessmen. The innovative element laid in common education of students, inceptors and representatives of the business. Within the framework of the practical implication the transfer of knowledge in all directions happened: from universities to the world of business, from the world of business to the universities, between universities and between businessmen respectively. All this had in addition a trans-border dimension. The innovative form of education had been evaluated as interesting, motivating for further education and useful for the participants and regional development.

The diseases caused by vasculitis are rare. The difficulties in diagnosis may be due to this low frequency, as well as to rather slow development and various symptoms and locations of the symptoms. In the diagnosis of the vasculitis one should consider all of the clinical features, for they may include diagnostic criteria for various clinical entities.

The more important research results on the impact of building development and vegetation on the local climate, conducted in Warsaw in the years 1959-2009 by the Department of Climatology, are presented. Majority of the issues associated with determining the deformation of air temperature limits (urban heat islands), humidity and wind vector areas, because of buildings in housing estates, located in various parts of the city, were resolved in master's thesis. Areas with high building density are characterized by slow cooling and warming pace, especially during the summer months. Spatial changes in the urban heat islands in the east-west direction well describe the latitudinal profiles (W-E) of air temperature differences (∆T ≥ 0) between the city and its urban fringe. The urban heat island ∆T does not appears till 5PM, initially in the Central City District. Spatial diversity of effective temperature and catathermal cooling allowed to mark off in housing estates ( „Stawki”, „Służew nad Dolinką”, „Sady Żoliborskie”) places with perceptible conditions, e.g. heat, warmth, comfort, cold.

Opis:
A three-layer theoretical model for transport of graded sediments was used in our analysis of the silting-up of waterways tested under laboratory conditions. The experiment was conducted in a laboratory basin, in which waves and a current were generated. The current interacted with the waves propagating perpendicularly to the direction in which it was flowing. It was assumed in the calculations that the sediment was entrained from the bed and suspended due to the impact of waves on the bed, after which it was transported by the current along the cross-shore profile of the navigation channel. Thus, it was assumed that the bathymetry changes occur only as a result of changes in the suspended load transport rate. The bed topographic modifications modelling results are in good agreement to the laboratory experimental results, including the rate of silting up the waterway and the bed reconfiguration. The key factor in the calculations concerning the waterway bed reconfiguration proved to be the inclusion of the effect of sediment size sorting on predicting the rate and character of bathymetry changes.

The systemic transformation of Poland after 1989 led to an acceleration of restructuring processes both in the national economy and in individual regions. The dynamics of changes was exceptionally high in rural areas. The most rapid changes occurred in areas which are situated within the range of the direct influence of bigger cities. This paper strives to compare the changes in entrepreneurship which took place in the suburban areas of Kielce and Radom during the transformation period, before and after the introduction of the administrative reform in Poland. We sought answers to the following questions: - What differences occur in the dynamics of changes of the entrepreneurship indicator in suburban areas in case of two cities of a similar size, of which only Kielce has remained the regional (voivodship) capital? - What differences occur in the dynamics of changes of the entrepreneurship indicator in relation to the distance from the central city? In order to answer the above questions, the entrepreneurship indicators for agriculture, industry and service sectors were calculated for the analysed areas between 1995 and 2005.
