Opis:
Landslide is a common geological disaster which causes huge losses to people’s properties and national economic development. How to prevent and control landslides has become an important issue. This article introduces the geological and geographical environment of the landslide body, analyzes the basic characteristics of the landslide, calculates the landslide stability based on the ultimate equilibrium theory-based transfer coefficient method, discusses the development trend of the landslide and comes up with corresponding control schemes by taking the landslide body of Black Bovine Cave Copper Ore Mining & Beneficiation Project as example. It is found that the control scheme - “anti-slide pile + retraining wall + baffle + anchor cable” can be used to effectively prevent and control the geological disaster according to calculation. The study results can provide a reference for landslide body control.

Abstract. In this paper an algorithm for creating cave-like, user-guided layout is presented. In applications such as computer games, underground structures offer unique challenges and interesting space for player actions. Preparation of such areas can be time consuming and tiresome, especially during the design process, when many ideas are often scrapped. Presented approach aims at improving this process. Schematic input is used so the user can quickly define the general layout. Cave system is divided into levels and tiles - easily-parallelizable modules for the following method stages. Cellular automata are used to extend initial system sketch with interesting shapes while the diamond-square algorithm spreads the final terrain heights. Each stage uses the results of the previously performed operations as input, providing space for alterations. Input maps can be reused to obtain different variations of the same system. The final structure is represented as a 3D point cloud. Chosen representation supports multilevel systems and can be used either as a base for further algorithms, or as a final mesh. The presented approach can be easily incorporated into game design process, while visualizing initial layouts and speeding up preparation of unique, interesting and challenging game spaces for the players to traverse.

Opis:
Heavy, black manganese pebbles have been found in the clastic sediments of the Hochschartehöhlensystem (the Northern Calcareous Alps). Six selected pebbles were subjected to X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy and optical and electron microscopy analysis. The results reveal that the main component of the pebbles is manganese silicate, braunite, Mn2+Mn3+6(SiO4)O8. Braunite is a mineral formed at elevated temperatures, mainly through hydrothermal, metamorphic or diagenetic processes. This means that the manganese pebbles were formed outside the caves. However, manganese rock was not found in situ on the surface of the Hoher Göll Massif. This probably indicates that their origin is from eroded parts of Mesozoic rocks. The first studies of pebbles and their mineralogy, by analogy with contemporary marine sediments, indicate that their genesis is related to spreading zones and accompanies hydrothermal vents. The analysed material highlights two important issues: (1) the manganese pebbles are significant arguments for the occurrence of hydrothermal vents in the Northern Calcareous Alps; and (2) the importance of cave sediments studies, which provide relevant evidence for palaeogeographic reconstruction.

This article retrieves ancient and modern perspectives on the status and role of myth in education by revisiting Plato’s critique of myth in the light of recent scholarship and spotlighting Plato’s so-called “allegory of the cave,” particularly the latter’s (in)famous interpretation by Martin Heidegger. Reviving the question of myth in the philosophy of education through engaging Plato and Heidegger’s mythical elements, the paper provides a more extensive background to recent deliberations on mytho-poetic curriculum theory and the hermeneutics of education.

W artykule podjęto próbę interpretacji aspektów performatywnych śpiewu i tekstów piosenek Nicka Cave’a oraz autorstwa gitarzysty Rowlanda Stuarta Howarda (1959–2009), a także Micka Harveya, Vincenta Eugene’a Craddocka (znanego jako Gene Vincent) i Billa Davisa (właściwie: William Douchette) z albumu śpiewającego pianisty z grupą The Birthday Party The Birthday Party (1980). Studium, wpisując się w nurt rock song lyrics studies, jest recepcyjnym śladem i refleksją nad początkami drogi twórczej wybitnego autora tekstów piosenek oraz kompozytora muzyki rockowej i wokalisty, obdarzonego interesującym głosem. Teza prezentowanej pracy jest następująca: pochodzący z Australii wokalista od pierwszych nagrań z zespołem The Boys Next Door (płyta Door, Door z roku 1979) pisze utwory o miłości, bólu i samotności, a przede wszystkim każdy kolejny krążek autora Into My Arms to zapis doświadczenia tęsknoty, nie inaczej jest zatem i w przypadku omawianego tutaj albumu, który wyraża żal i smutek – uczucia autora/piosenkarza, „ja” opowiadającego/śpiewającego, persony tekstowo-muzycznej, czy inaczej mówiąc – piosenkowego podmiotu performatywnego. Śpiew Nicka Cave’a można określić jako metaforę habitusu punkowych miniatur piosenkowych, będących tekstowymi i głosowymi ekspresjami buntu, w których dominuje ironia, konstytutywną zasadą poetyki tych utworów zaś jest groteska.
This article attempts to interpret the performative aspects of Nick Cave’s singing and song lyrics written in collaboration with the guitarist Rowland Stuart Howard (1959–2009), Mick Harvey, Vincent Eugene Craddock (also known as Gene Vincent) and William Douchette (also known as Bill Davis). I focus specifically on the album The Birthday Party (1980) which Nick Cave recorded together with his band The Birthday Party. This analysis, representative of rock song lyrics studies, is a receptive trace and a reflection on the beginnings of this outstanding songwriter, rock musician, and singer’s career. I argue that the Australian singer, beginning with the first recordings with the band The Boys Next Door (Door, Door from 1979), writes about love, pain, and loneliness, and show how each new album by the author of Into My Arms records the experience of longing. The Birthday Party, therefore, is no different; it expresses regret and sadness – the feelings of the author/singer, the narrating/singing “I,” the lyrical and the musical persona or, in other words, the singing and performing subject. Cave’s signing is a metaphor for the habitus of punk song miniatures, which are lyrical and vocal expressions of rebellion, filled with irony, while the main principle of the poetics of these works is the grotesque.

Opis:
Under the deep impression of the 20th century’s worst excesses and sheer horror, Robert Merle, an engaged, humanist novelist, comes to question the humanity of man. As a popular novelist he imprints this reaction on fashionable genres, such as science fiction and dystopia, in which dolphins Fa and Bi are more informed than the humans (An Animal Endowed with Reason/ The Day of the Dolphin 1967), a species that is not really worth perpetuating (The Protected Men/ The Virility Factor, 1974). In 1972, in Malevil, Merle veers towards post-apocalyptic fiction, imagining a nuclear catastrophe that has brought man back to a primary condition; it is a situation that allows him to conceive of the political and moral crisis at the heart of the city. Beyond this classical revealing function, though, the crisis heuristics brings Merle face to face with the blind spots of his ideological reference, so that the text eventually puts in a crisis situation the very progressive positions exhibited by the author, curbing the text to the reactionary positions of a Bajavel in Ravage/ Ashes, Ashes (1943).

Developed in the Devonian limestones the Raj (Paradise) Cave, with the rich dripstone attire, located near the city of Kielce, was the first cave in Poland to be opened to the public in a modern way 50 years ago and thus the first geotouristic site in the Świętokrzyskie (Holy Cross) region. Unrestricted exploration soon after its discovery led to the destruction of some speleothems. That is why the cave entrance was closed and a decision to protect the cave by its commercialization was made. Archaeological excavations and geological and palaeontological investigations of the Pleistocene cave sediments were carried out duringthe preparation ofthe tourist route. Transforming the cave into a show cave allowed maintaining its intrinsic (scientific) and extrinsic (aesthetic) values. However, tourism has also put a negative impact on the cave (mechanical damages of the speleothems, lampenflora, contaminations). Therefore, the authors consider whether protection and public access represent two contrasting or rather complementary concepts and from this perspective make an attempt to assess the 50 years of geotourism in Raj Cave.

It is assumed that occurrence of Palaeolithic cave art in Central and Eastern Europe is not typical for this part of the continent, as it is difficult to consider its few examples as a result of solely poor preservation. Looking into this issue from the perspective of region of modern Poland, several questions arise: Why is it registered on so few sites, and is it truly an atypical phenomenon for the region? In problem discussion, there are three key elements: research interest, state of preservation, and competences needed for making a discovery. These elements, covered in following paper, explicitly suggest that in terms of Polish cave sites, we do not possess enough information to conclude which type of occurrence we are dealing with.

A characteristic features of the geological structure of the Krakow area are tectonic horsts and grabens. The Zakrzówek Horst is one of the seven horst structures within the Krakow area, located in the south-western part of the area. It is built of Upper Jurassic limestones, where numerous karst caves have been developed. The caves of the Zakrzówek Horst probably form a system of interconnected caves. This hypothesis has been tested in the western region of the Zakrzówek Horst using the electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) method. The investigations were conducted in the parallel profile configuration as well as with the data processing procedure based on the 2D and 3D inversion. The results of these studies are an attempt to locate additional voids as well as fractured zones in carbonate rock mass. The studies confirmed the hypothesis that the Jasna Cave is probably only a fragment of a vast cave system developed within the Zakrzówek Horst. As a result of the research carried out with the ERT method, the most prospective directions for future speleological research have been determined.

This article tries to interpret the lyrics from From Her to Eternity (1984), a debut studio album by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, including a cover of a song originally written by Leonard Cohen. As an example of a rock song lyrics study, it follows the receptive trace while reflecting on the beginnings of the creative path of this outstanding songwriter, rock music composer and vocalist endowed with a captivating voice. Nick Cave’s first musical incarnation was the Boys Next Door (1976–1980, the band changed its name several times and for a longer time was known as Concrete Vulture), later followed by the Birthday Party (1980–1983), Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (1984–), and Grinderman (2006–2011). Originating from Warracknabeal, Australia, Nicholas E. Cave is considered to be one of the best rock culture artists, confirming his class as with every new album. His last two productions, Idiot Prayer: Nick Cave Alone at Alexandra Palace (2020) and Carnage (2021, a studio album recorded in a duo with the outstanding multi-instrumentalist Warren Ellis), are beautiful, moving, and extraordinary works. The former is a concert film and a live album featuring Cave performing solo on piano, and it serves as the final film in a trilogy of this Brighton-based singer and composer, along with the phenomenal 20,000 Days on Earth (2014) and One More Time with Feeling (2016). Nick Cave is an artist who writes about loneliness, pain, and yearning for love, as clearly evidenced by From Her to Eternity, a moving study of the anthropology of love.

The Guenfouda cave is located 30 km south of the city of Oujda in the Jbel Metssila belonging to the Oujda Mountains. It was recognized as a site of archaeological interest in 2003. Excavations are scheduled every year, and important archaeological material (lithic, faunal and human) has been brought to light. A first study on the lithic industry was carried out by S. Almisas and M. Souhir [2018] under the title of "New studies on the lithic industry of the Neolithic deposits of the Oujda Mountains. Raw material and technology" [Reg.03 "Upper Pleistocene and Holocene cognitive complexity & archaeogenetics in North Africa" 15th PANAF Conférence, Rabat 2018]. The study is based on technological techniques, the typology of cut products and also on the origin of the raw material used. The lithic industry is abundant, well preserved in all levels and phases of the operating chain are present, indicating debitage in situ in the cave. The artefacts are brought back to the Neolithic for the upper levels, then to the final Upper Paleolithic (or Epipaleolithic) for the lower levels, marked by a change in culture with the appearance of back-to-body lamellae. The first analyses of the raw material used by prehistoric man in this cave, in particular the flint, generally comes from the Swimina area, located to the south of the Oued El Hay basin (Ain Béni Mathar). The limestones come from the surroundings of the mountains of ‘Oujda, plains and wadis. As for the basalt, it comes from an ancient Quaternary volcano located near the cave at the top of Jebel Metssila. In turn, quartzites, phtanites, silicified green schist and tuffite, they come from the Paleozoic buttonholes of Glib Naam and jbel boussofane (Province of Jerada). Given the information above, it appears that the man from Guenfouda may have used various rocks for the manufacturing of tools, and would have traveled distances of up to 60 km in radius to stock up on raw material, especially flint.

The Hoher Göll Massif is situated 20 km south of Salzburg and belongs to the Northern Calcareous Alps (Austria). It is a ridge ca. 11 km long and 3 km wide with the highest summit Hoher Göll (2522 m a.s.l.), encircled by deeply incised valleys with bottoms ca. 2,000 m below it. Cave clastic deposits were studied in the Hochschartehöhlensystem, Dämchenhöhle and Hintere caves. The caves belong to the Giant Cave Level, with the exception of part of the Hochschartehöhlensystem, that is Der Sprechender Steine Cave, the highest parts of which belong to the Ruin Cave Level. The sources of the cave sediments have been identified from the composition of the heavy fractions. Preliminary studies of the Hoher Göll caves reveal that the cave fills were derived from the Oligocene to earliest Miocene Augenstein Formation, the deposits of the Palaeo-Inn River and the siliciclastic basal strata of the Northern Calcareous Alps. The clastic material deposited as the Augenstein Formation was transported from southern parts of the Eastern Alps and by the Palaeo-Inn river from their western part. According to heavy minerals, the sources of the clastic material were on the Palaeozoic terrains, the post-Palaeozoic sequence, and the Middle Austroalpine Unit. Later, during or after the mountain uplift, weathered materials from the Augenstein and Palaeo-Inn deposits were eroded and transported from the surface into caves by allogenic streams. Some of the sediments were likely to have been transported later to the Giant Cave Level from the southern part of the Northern Calcareous Alps.
