Opis:
The article presents the results of the study the main purpose of which was to determine the level of social activity in Poland. However, the specific goal was to identify the possibilities of using employees’ social activity in implementing the sustainable development strategy (SDS) in enterprises. As the presented study is part of a larger scientific project (statutory research) entitled Human capital management in the conditions of sustainable development, the conclusions of the analysis are the basis for further work, which will result in the development of a set of good practices for enterprises and other organisations in the field of human capital management in terms of using the potential and competences of employees active in the area of social work. The diagnosed tendency of the Polish population to work for the benefit of the social good allows the author to conclude that enterprises that want to implement the SDS should use the potential existing in socially engaged employees.

Opis:
People should be at the centre of attention within knowledge-based economics. The leaders of each enterprise ought to focus on providing the best conditions for their employees’ professional and individual development and treat them with respect in terms of their dignity and needs. In contemporary literature two notions in perceiving people in organisations are noticeable. The first one treats employees as ‘resources’ which have to be properly used or as ‘capital’ that should bring a decent return on investment. The second notion derives a lot from Christian philosophy and sees the human as a person who treats work as a way to realize his calling and thus is able to take responsibility for the decisions made and actions taken. Acting in a constantly changing environment, people have to be flexible and able to take advantage of emerging opportunities and avoid threats. Within this process it is not a matter of being a human ‘being’ but rather becoming, which means that they are incessantly developing their potential. Although it is hard to predict human behaviour, the main task for managers is to lead in a way that will help employees use their full potential for both their own and the company’s benefit.

Opis:
The EVA framework1 tries to embrace the traditional liquidity oriented working capital discussion and the more recent profit oriented access to the topic and positions working capital management within a shareholder value strategy. Our theoretical paper challenges the predictability of the impact working capital management has on EVA and thus challenges the need for working capital management being included in EVA based incentive systems. Our findings underline the complexity and limited predictability of measures addressing working capital in an EVA context and thus demonstrate the limitations of management influence on EVA.

Opis:
Employee engagement level is the measure of the effectiveness of human capital management. Its average value in Polish practice is evidence of the high quality of HR practices. However, its differentiation provides evidence of a polarization of standards in this area. It is also proof of significant reserves in the area of employee organizational engagement. The results of an analysis of factors that determine its level show areas that require intensification of activities on the part of managers and human capital management specialists.

Opis:
Working capital management belongs to most relevant company’s decisions, as it influences both profitability and liquidity. In the liquidity context, the paper offers a broader view on the scope of working capital management decisions, by expanding its linkages with risk management. In particular, the paper develops a conceptual model of the analysis of company’s liquidity reserves, which is relevant for establishing company’s risk retention capabilities. In the empirical layer, the paper examines the sample of Polish listed companies with regard to the magnitude, relevance and time-suitability of liquidity reserves. The empirical verification is also directed on the identification of these areas of working capital management which are relevant for sourcing liquidity reserves. In this aspect, cluster analysis and factor analysis was implemented. The study found that the majority of the examined companies hold liquidity reserves. As the most relevant aspect of working capital management the maintenance of financial stability has emerged.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of a study aimed at identifying and assessing the efficiency of working capital management strategies in enterprises. The analysis focuses on the volumes of net working capital and its cycle (dependent variable), as well as the conversion cycles of its main components (independent variables). The study comprises the entire population of manufacturing enterprises in Poland covered by public statistics (nearly 14 thousand entities), divided into size categories (small, medium and large). The long-term analysis covers the period of 2007-2018. The study makes use of the measures that characterise working capital management strategies and their effects including net working capital volumes and working capital cycles. The study also employs measures related to correlations, similarity, density, positioning and classifying, as well as descriptive statistics. The effect of the study is the verification of three research hypotheses related to the characteristics, correlations, profile similarities and identification of working capital strategies in manufacturing enterprises.
