Opis:
This elaboration presents the concept of a unidirectional DC–DC switchedcapacitor converter operating as a voltage tripler. The system consists of two resonant cells with switched capacitors and chokes. This proposed converter topology achieves low voltages on semiconductor switches (diodes and transistors) compared to the classic SC series-parallel converter or the boost topology. The output voltage on the capacitors is reduced in the proposed converter because it is divided into two series-connected capacitors with asymmetric distribution. The presented results describe the analytical description of the system operation and the analytical equation for semiconductor currents. A simulation and experimental results have been performed. The system efficiency and three voltage gain values were measured in the experimental setup. The efficiency measured was also compared with the analytical determination curve for loss analysis and further converter optimization.

Opis:
Feeder reconfiguration (FR), capacitor placement and sizing (CPS) are the two renowned methods widely applied by the researchers for loss minimization with node voltage enrichment in the electrical distribution network (EDN), which has an immense impact on economic savings. In recent years, optimization of FR and CPS together can proficiently yield better power loss minimization and save costs compared to the individual optimization of FR and CPS. This work proposes an application of an improved salp swarm optimization technique based on weight factor (ISSOT-WF) to solve the cost-based objective function using CPS with and without FR for five different cases and three load levels, subject to satisfying operating constraints. In addition, to ascertain the impact of real power injection on additional power loss reduction, this work considers the integration of dispersed generation units at three optimal locations in capacitive compensated optimal EDN. The effectiveness of ISSOT-WF has been demonstrated on the standard PG&E-69 bus system and the outcomes of the 69-bus test case have been validated by comparing with other competing algorithms. Using FR and CPS at three optimal nodes and due to power loss reduction, cost-saving reached up to a maximum of 71%, and a maximum APLR of 26% was achieved after the installation of DGs at three optimal locations with the significant improvement in the bus voltage profile.

The solar farms are connected to the electricity grid through a DC / AC inverter and a transformer. The current commutation in the inverter valves generates voltage pulses in the leakage inductances, which act on the insulation system of the transformer windings. Suppression filters provide effective protection of the transformer winding insulation against overvoltage. These can be capacitors or varistors. The filter significantly improves the dielectric conditions of the transformer winding insulation.

This article proposes a novel three-phase inverter based on the concept of switched capacitors (SCs), which uses a single DC source. A three-phase, seven-level line-to-line output voltage waveform is synthesised by the proposed topology, which includes eight switches, two capacitors, and one diode per phase leg. The proposed topology offers advantages in terms of inherent voltage gain, lower voltage stresses on power switches, and a reduced number of switching components. Additionally, the switched capacitors are self-balanced, thereby eliminating the need for a separate balancing circuit. The proposed structure and its operating principle, the self-balancing mechanism of the capacitors, and the control strategy are all thoroughly explained in the article. The proposed topology has also been compared with some recent SC topologies. Lastly, the proposed topology has been shown to be feasible through simulation and experimentation.

This paper proposed a new voltage-boosting 13-level switched-capacitor (SC) cost-effective inverter. The proposed topology comprises fourteen transistors, three capacitors and a single DC source to produce a 13-level staircase waveform. The capacitor voltage balancing problem is inherently solved by the series/parallel technique. Structural description, working principle, calculation of optimum values of capacitance and modulation scheme are briefly described. The comparative analyses with the existing SC multilevel inverter (MLI) in terms of voltage gain, blocking voltage, total standing voltage (TSV), component per level factor and cost function illustrate the merits of the proposed topology. Further, simulation and experimental results at different loading conditions verify the feasibility of the proposed topology.

In this study, high-purity tantalum metal powder was manufactured via self-propagating high-temperature synthesis. During the process, Ta2O5 and Mg were used as the raw material powder and the reducing agent, respectively, and given that combustion rate and reaction temperature are important factors that influence the success of this process, these factors were controlled by adding an excessive mass of the reducing agent (Mg) i.e., above the chemical equivalent, rather than by using a separate diluent. It was confirmed that Ta metal powder manufactured after the process was ultimately manufactured 99.98% high purity Ta metal powder with 0.5 μm particle size. Thus, it was observed that adding the reducing reagent in excess favored the manufacture of high-purity Ta powder that can be applied in capacitors.

Opis:
Energy storage technology (EST) is an effective way to improve the power quality of renewable energy generation (such as solar energy and wind energy), but a single energy storage system (ESS) is difficult to meet the demand for the safe operation of the grid. According to the structure and operation characteristics of the existing battery/super-capacitor hybrid energy storage system (HESS), a battery/super-capacitor HESS is proposed. The working principle and three working modes (the super-capacitor pre-charging cold standby mode, the boost mode and buck mode) of the HESS are analyzed in detail. The state equations of the boost mode and buck mode are derived. The state space average method is used to establish the small signal equivalent model under the buck/boost mode. Moreover, the charge and discharge control strategy of the HESS is obtained by combining the voltage closed-loop control. The simulation model is built in Matlab/Simulink to verify the effectiveness of the proposed HESS and its control strategy. The results show that the HESS and its control strategy can ensure the DC bus voltage has good stability and superior anti-interference, and it can simultaneously provide large current, increase the battery life, and improve the technical economy of energy storage.

Opis:
Modular multilevel converter (MMC) is considered as a good technology for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems. It can generate a good quality staircase output voltage waveform due to the cascaded connection of large number of identical sub-modules (SMs). Energy variations in SM capacitor lead to capacitor voltage fluctuations which affect the size and stability of MMC. Traditionally MMC arm voltages are controlled using direct modulation method. The closed loop and open loop compensated modulation methods are implemented to overcome the drawbacks created in direct modulation method. However, these methods rely on the accurate measurements or estimation of SM capacitor voltages. In this paper, capacitor energy variations in MMC based on direct modulation method under three different categories using proportional-resonant (PR) controllers are discussed as (a) pure sinusoidal arm current (b) sinusoidal arm current with addition of large 2nd harmonic (c) sinusoidal arm current with addition of 2nd +4th harmonics. Analytical and simulation results show reduction in capacitor energy variations in MMC while injecting harmonics in the arm currents using direct modulation method.

Three pot experiments were performed on cucumber, maize, soybean and wheat plants to investigate the effects of various substrate types, namely pumice, arenosol and chernozem soil (Exp. 1), of substrate salinity (Exp. 2) and of soil water content (SWC; Exp. 3) on the electrical capacitance measured in root-soil systems. The data were evaluated according to the basic principle of the two-dielectric capacitor model. Statistical analysis indicated that the capacitance measured in root-soil systems was determined by the capacitance of the root system for each combination of plant species and substrate. Furthermore, the results showed that substrate impedance had a negligible influence on the capacitance measured in root-soil systems. Substrate salinity had no direct effect on capacitance measured in root-soil systems, but salt-induced physicochemical changes in plant tissues could have influenced its dielectric properties. Capacitance measured in rootsoil systems increased exponentially with soil water content (it ranged from 10 to 48 v/v %), indicating that the measured capacitance was more sensitive to variability in moisture content at high rather than at low water saturation levels. This is not consistent with the general consensus that the capacitance method is unreliable in dry soil and should be used at soil water content close to field capacity. The present results will contribute to the more effective application of the root capacitance technique.

In this work, we report a stepwise formation method of a chitosan/sodium alginate polyelectrolyte complex (CS/SA PEC) membrane. The proposed method aiming at the utilization of the ultrasonic treatment of chitosan and sodium alginate solution allowed us to obtain a highly homogeneous hybrid membrane for electrochemical usage. The CS/SA PEC membrane saturated in a 2 M Li2SO4 aqueous solution was used in electrochemical double layer capacitor (EDLC) cell to study its applicability as quasi-solid electrolyte. Electrochemical characteristic of EDLC cells was determined by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge/discharge methods. The results show that the EDLC cell with CS/SA PEC quasi-solid electrolyte exhibit a comparable specific capacitance (102 F g-1 for 0–0.8 V) to CS reference (100 F g-1 for 0–0.8 V) and commercial separator (99 F g-1 for 0–0.8 V) cells. Thus, the CS/SA PEC membrane can be considered as an alternative modification for chitosanbased materials of electrochemical purpose.

The article proposes the method of synthesis of active elements with timevarying parameters R(t), C(t) and L(t). In order to construct the elements, it is necessary to use operational amplifiers, multipliers and classic RLC components. The variability in time of the elements results from applying voltage to control terminals. Assuming that the parameters of elements R(t), L(t), C(t) are exponentially varying, dependencies describing the control voltage waveforms which enable such a parameter variability were determined. The obtained results were illustrated with examples and PSpice simulations.

The paper considers a discrete state-space model for transients in a three-level flying capacitor DC–DC converter. A transition matrix is obtained for a pulse width modulation (PWM) period. The matrix eigenvalues that determine the natural balancing dynamics transients are presented in the form of power series as well. Four separate transients are constructed based on four possible PWM period initial states (topologies).
